What's upper! I'm still recovering from my NY trip! I
had the BEST time out there & meeting my Rap
Attack dj's was the icing on the cake. Next year
promises to be bigger & better but I think I'm gonna
showcase less than 19 groups this time around! My flight
returning back to LAX was cancelled 30 minutes prior to
boarding due to the fires that's been going on here in
Cali. They shut down LAX due to bad visibility but I
eventually made it home. The change of weather finally
hit me when I got home & I have been bedridden since,
catching up on sleep & fighting the flu. The weather in
NY was 40 degrees & here in L.A., it's about 95 degrees
so my body had to readjust! If you'd like to peep a ton
of photos taken at our "Unofficial CMJ Hip-Hop
Showcase # 3," log on to:
WWW.NYNJNIGHTS.COM and click on GALLERIES...
I've got tons of unopened mail here at the Rap Attack
headquarters but devoting all this week to catch up
on new music. So please be patient as I catch up on lost
time... Our dawg, Mr. Pete has left Dreamworks
& is moving back to his hometown of Tucson, AZ to
finish his schooling. Mr. Pete has always looked out for
us since his days at Priority Records to now. We
will miss him but please know that with the music
business being so unstable right now, he wants to get
his Mktg. degree & get his education on!... On the DVD
tip, look out for "Inside Hip-Hop" featuring one-on-one
interviews with Damon Dash, Russell Simmons,
Baby, Steve Rifkind & other hip-hop moguls
hosted by Fatman Scoop. The interviews explore
how today's hip-hop moguls achieved success in the music
business & beyond. "Inside Hip-Hop" is Fatman Scoop's
first DVD. He's released numerous singles & his own
brand of mixtapes, promoted rap records & can be heard
on his popular nightly show on NY's HOT 97
(Monday-Friday, 12-6AM). For more info, contact
Reggie Joseph at Live Music Channel at 212.

REGGIE@ORIGINAL-MEDIA.COM ... Have you peeped
the new Squabble "Real Gangstas" (Romeo
Entertainment) yet? After one listen, I was feelin' this
cut. It brought me back to the early 90's when hip-hop
was fun to listen to & dance to & not every hip-hop
joint was a political or a serious track. Squabble's got
a tight beat with fun lyrics & it took me back to the
Stetsasonic & Wrecks-N-Effect days! If you
need to get laced, hit up Ivan on his 2way at:
LEGENDPROMO@TMAIL.COM or call Todd Wolfe
directly over at Cheesesteak Media at (215) 880.
7384... Another record that's catching an early buzz is
Mr. Vegas "Tamale" (Delicious Vinyl). Our dawg,
Ty Campbell (formerly of MCA) is heading
that project & we're getting out the box mixtape dj's
support on this cut. For more info, holla at Ty at (310)
925.2116 or on his 2way:
TYC@TMAIL.COM Tell
that pinoy that Rap Attack sent ya'!... While in
NY, Big Josh & the heads from Konnect
Entertainment took me & about 10 of our Rap
Attack dj's to dinner to meet their new artist,
Lex. I know it's early but I'm giving you an advance
warning to look out for Lex! This cat has got lyrical
skills & his production is so, so tight! He's got 2
joints that we got to peep, "Walk Wit Me" and "In Da
Building." If Big Josh & Konnect handles their business
correctly, Lex will be one of 2004's up & coming. Holla
at Big Josh for the advance at (347) 661.3955 or online
at:
BIGJOSH125@HOTMAIL.COM .. If you were at our
"Hip-Hop Showcase # 3" in NY, then I'm sure you can't
forget artist Troy Walsh who took the crowd by
surprise! Never judge a book by it's cover cause when
Troy jumped on stage, he had the crowd rockin'! Watching
Troy reminded me of when I saw 3rd Bass perform
on stage for the first time in front of an all black
audience in Atlantic City, NJ! Shipping shortly is Troy
Walsh with "Happy Hour" b/w "Country Clubbin'" (Burb
Life Records). For more info, log onto:
WWW.BURBLIFE.COM or contact Jonas Goldstein
at (610) 505. 5950... Warren G is back minus
the G-Funk & startin' to make some new noise with a new
generation of dj's. "Let's Go" is the new joint with
Warren G. featuring KRS-One & Lil Al (MSC
Ent.). Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive &
our reporters are welcoming Warren G. with open arms.

The
Red Star Sounds Presents "Def Jamaica" (Def Jam)
is heating up turntables nationwide. Don't sleep on this
album. Here's what our panel has to say about "Def
Jamaica": DJ Yoshi (MixTape DJ/NJ); "Let's earn
some plaques pare. I think they should release the
Frontin' Remix. I played it 4 times at the club, and for
them to spend the $ on production and lisencing,
copyrights and s*** like that, it would be a waste to
not release it! The crowd loved it and all the DJ's were
asking where I got the single! dudes were like WOW!
CRAZY BANANAS! I'll listen to the rest of the LP and let
you know."... DJ Nick Nack (KAZI/MixTape
DJ/Austin, TX): "I am loving that Xecutioners
track on the compilation! Hot shit!"... The Wonder
Twinz (Sirius Satellite Radio): "CNN/Wayne
Wonder/Lexxus "Anything Goes" This is a dope track,
who would have thought of this combination. This is
classic CNN. Wayne Wonder comes off real strong on this
track. The production is hot to def. gettin lots of
spins out here fo sho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"... DJ
Solo (WECI/Richmond, IN): " The ish is fiya,
more reggae on the map!"... Darin Gloe (KDRU/Springfield,
MO): " Wayne Wonder feat CNN - Anything Goes This has
been getting burn on the mixshow for a month now. I love
this record, the addition of CNN was like the icing on
the cake. When I first heard the joint on Wayne Wonder's
LP, I was blown away by the hook, Capone and NORE add
their two cents and this is an absolute banger. Don't
sleep on the b-side either bringing you back from the
Belly Soundtrack from like 99, "Top Shottter" is
straight fire too."... DJ Primetime (WRFT/Middle
Village, NY): " CNN / Wayne Wonder / Lexxus - Pretty
dope joint, CNN comes correct and Wayne Wonder and
Lexxus compliment them well."... Jason D (KHDC
#2/Salinas, CA): " Wayne Wonder & CNN / Anything Goes:
Without a doubt this is a hot joint. Wayne is doing his
thing and the track has the same vibe that's getting
Sean Paul over in a big way right now. I can see myself
in the club with a Heineken and a cutie just bouncin to
the beat. That being said, this is one for mix show and
should get mad love from the commercial shows. For my
college radio show, I'm checking for: 1) Lyrical .44
feat Red & Meth 2) Nah Mean feat
Xecutioners."... Double J (MixTape DJ/Brooklyn,
NY): " I love the Def Jamaica record. 2004 reggae at
it's finest."... Jason Gloss (WOWL/Boca
Raton, FL): " I think it's a
dope club joint. Something we gotta slowly work to
college. Very full of potential."... DJ Toast (WRPI/Troy,
NY): " Remember back 10 years ago when it was all
the rage to blend hip hop and reggae together? Bobby
Konders would have reggae artists perform over
popular hip hop beats and he and Flex would spin
them on Hot97? You could get Beanie Man singing
over the latest hot Wu Tang beat and the audience
would eat that shit up every time. Well Red Starr Sounds
and Def Jam are continuing with that theme by blending
the best in reggae with the best rap artists on the Def
Jam label. This track is a club favorite and would
nicely split up a solid pure rap music set."... Rich
"DJ Imperial" Lawson (KSMU/Springfield,
MO): " Red Starr Sounds presents "Def Jamaica" (Def
Jam). I was a bit leary when I heard Def Jam was going
to step into the Dancehall realm. As Vp and
Greensleeves has been holdin it down for years. But
to my surprise this album is one of my favorites in 2003
so far. The Fronitn remix is already getting airplay and
clubplay!" There it is straight from our dj's mouth!
These are the cats that take that extra step & break new
hip-hop before commercial mixshow jumps on it! If you
still need to get laced with "Def Jamaica," holla at
Mike Money over at Def Jam at (212) 333. 1383

SHOUT OUT TIZIME: Jam Master Jay
(R.I.P.). To everyone & I mean everyone (too many names
to mention) who I got to meet & hang out with in New
York. We don't have the big budgets like the other
hip-hop & mixshow trade magazines but
RapAttackLives.com is a little over 2 years old &
we're still here representin' what I believe in & that
is YOU! Even though I've been in this biz for over 23
years, I don't make the big dollars like some of the big
willies running the big labels do. Majority of
everything comes out of my pocket. Our "Hip-Hop Showcase
# 3" in NY is just a stepping stone to take us to the
next level as I strive hard to get the respect from the
record labels. To our panel of loyal dj's, expect your
record service to improve soon from Arista, Def
Jam & Interscope to name a few. Thank you for
sticking together as a team & to some of my dj's who are
reporting to Rap Attack & continue to not send in
their playlists to me weekly, not send feedback & just
dj on their show & once the mic is off that's it, you
will be dropped. I am in the process of revamping this
panel & make it even tighter so we can finally show our
part of town & the record labels who service us with
double vinyls that we do break records first!
