What's upper! Ok football fans, it's official. The
New England Patriots will battle against the
Carolina Panthers in this years Superbowl XXXVIII
on February 1st in
Houston...
My two new favorite shows on tv are; MTV's "The
Wake Up Show" hosted by Sway & Tech and my homies
Carmelita & KoolAide and our loyal
Rap Attack reporter DJ Revolution. "The
Wake Up Show" first debuted in the 90's on Bay Area's
KMEL & I have nothing but fond memories hanging out
with Sway & Tech chillin' with them both on & off the
mic! To see their show grow so large & into the
mainstream homes via MTV is worth more than a pat on
their backs. Great to see these cats come up like that &
still remaining humble & very dedicated to hip-hop. My
other favorite tv show is hands down, WB's "The
Surreal Life" reality show where they teamed up this
season Vanilla Ice, Ron Jeremy, Eric
Estrada, Tammy Faye Baker, Trishell
(Las Vegas' Real World) & Traci Bingham (Bay
Watch). Last Sunday's show featuring "Different Strokes"
Gary Coleman was sooooo funny, you can & you
gotta see the encore show of that episode airing this
Thursday night... After eight years in business &
releasing such groundbreaking artists as Mos Def,
Talib Kweli, Rawkus Records has closed
their doors. After signing a joint venture deal with
Geffen/Universal, the parent label opted not
to renew their deal, leaving Rawkus without
distribution. Rawkus was founded in 1996 by Brian
Brater, Jarret Meyer & James Murdoch
(son of billionaire investor & News Corp. head
Rupert Murdoch). The label released seminal hip-hop
records during its eight year life, including critically
acclaimed releases by Reflection Eternal,
Company Flow, The High & Mighty, Hi-Tek,
Black Star, the Soundbombing series &
others... On a brighter note & you heard it first here
on Rap Attack, my AK & homie4life, Nathan
"Nash" Sheard is officially back working full
time & employed with SONY running their college &
mixshow radio department. Congratulations AK!...
Reggie Love from Trakstars radio outta Miami
is in the process of putting together his first mixtape
entitled, "NY to FL-Volume 1." Featured on the wheels &
reppin' Miami will be the Filipino Assassin DJ
J-Swift. Reggie needs the record labels support by
lacing him with some exclusive new tracks. His release
date is scheduled for early February, so hit him up now
at (914) 659-2065 or email:
reggielove_88@hotmail.com...
Jinx Da Juvy has been making big moves by
breaking on mixtapes everywhere! You can hear Jinx
featured & hosting on DJ Scene's (Seattle) next
mixtape dropping soon. Meantime his latest 12" "Get It,
Get It" b/w "Project Hallways" (Teflon/Def Jam) will be
going for the MOST ADDED spot, Wednesday, January
21st. If you need to get laced, holla at my girl
Angie Hunt at (212) 714-3594 or by email:
GREATBRIT5@AOL.COM...
When it comes to diggin' in the crates & producing some
of the phattest new beats, Take One is gettin' up
there in the ranks & 2004 is gonna give him even bigger
props. His latest venture is his brand new 12", "Pieces
From The Puzzle" featuring "Frustrated," "Next (The
Remix)" b/w "As I See It" & "L.A.T." (Buttermilk
Records). Promo copies are ready to be sent out to the
dj's who are truly down to support indy hip-hop at its
best. Send your request via email to:
BRIAN@BUTTERMILKRECORDS.COM & tell him,
RapAttackLives.com sent ya'. If you're in L.A. you
can peep out Take One over at Arons Records on
Highland the place to be for vinyl junkies lookin' for
that hard to find & the latest hip-hop vinyl!...
I
thought you'd like to see our dawg, Edgie Kokoski
from WUNH in Durham, NH predictions in hip-hop
for the year 2004:
Jan. 2004- Convicted killer and former No
Limit star C-Murder releases a new LP from behind
bars. Although his last release "Trapped In Crime"
drew some acclaimed reviews, critics shy away from
commenting on his new opus "F*cked in the Shower".
Feb. 2004- The Source Magazine reaches an all
time low as Ray Benzino announces that all Source
subscriptions will now be accompanied by a Benzino CD.
Or as Benzino puts it "My CDs
come with a free subscription. Don't get it twisted. I
ship 1 million units a month. Let's see Eminem beat
that"
Mar. 2004- The United States military
proudly announces the capture of Osama Bin Laden. After
intelligence led troops to the cave Osama was hiding in,
U.S. forces were able to flush him out by playing the
new Bravehearts album on "repeat" at nauseating volumes.
"I have to admit" a
captured Osama admitted, "that
everytime I heard that
Lil Jon
song I wanted to put the barrel
of my AK-47 in my f*cking mouth"
Apr. 2004- Hot off the success of
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, Outkast announce that
their next effort would be exclusively produced by Yoko
Ono & Marilyn Manson. Filmaker David Lynch has signed on
to produce a DVD documenting the historic recording
sessions. "It's the only way we
could figure out to make our sh*t more weird"
noted Andre 3000.
May 2004- Reality TV hits a new low as FOX
introduces "Who Wants To Release An Album?". The
show ends disappointingly as the final two competitors,
Ras Kass and Death Row Records, are at a hopeless
stalemate.
June 2004- Hip Hop romantics everywhere are
saddened by the announcement that Janet Jackson has cut
ties with boy-toy Jermaine Dupri. When asked where the
relationship went sour, Dupri lamented
"I guess the roofies finally
wore off."
July 2004- Jay-Z announces his return to
hip hop after his deep dismay at the seemingly endless
bootleg remixes of his "Black Album". The straw that
breaks the camel's back is a disc by composer Andrew
Lloyd Weber that hits the streets entitled "Jay-Z:
'The Baroque Album'"
Aug. 2004- Tired of being ridiculed by his
disgustingly rich son, Bam, beloved TV Dad Phil Margera
announces that he will be quitting the MTV hit "Viva
La Bam". In a panicked move, Bam Margera quickly
casts Bonecrusher to replace the portly patriarch.
Sept. 2004- After his last album "The
Struggle" fails to draw any major sales, Cappadonna
is not only forced out of the music business, but also
the cab driving business. Recently, he has been seen on
the streets of New York pulling a rickshaw.
Oct. 2004- Dirt McGirt (aka O.D.B.) scores
another victory on the comeback trail as he is tapped to
star opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. in the sequel "Radio
2: Retard & Retardeder"
Nov. 2004- The G-Unit's seemingly unstoppable
reign at the top ends as fans decide to pass on their
Thanksgiving themed new album "Beg For Turkey".
Dec. 2004- Bad luck also strikes the Ed-G
Unit, as the new Edgie Cent album "Sh*ttin' On The
Game" is pulled from stores everywhere after
shoppers complain that the album cover is obscene. An
unnamed Best Buy employee comments that
"somehow the image of a guy
with his pants around his ankles copping a squat over a
Monopoly board just rubbed consumers the wrong way..."
Now let's see how many of these predictions come
true!
