What's
upper! Back in 1998 when I just got settled in at my new
gig over at HITS magazine & gettin' used
to living in a whole new part of town that never rains,
I remember this young kid comin' to my office & wanting
to meet me. This kid knew all about my history in
hip-hop & was asking for my guidance. This kid ended up
becoming my asst. & right hand man by the name of DJ
Creativity. As a DJ, I watched him pay his dues from
DJ'ing on college radio, to commercial radio, to
satellite radio, to DJ'ing at clubs, working at a couple
industry trade magazines to doing street & national
radio promotions. This week, Creativity starts his new
gig mixing at Las Vegas' KVEG (HOT 95)
Monday-Friday from noon-1pm! Congratulations kid & I'm
very proud & happy for you cause I know it's been a
struggle in your life but you didn't give up...
Rap-A-Lot Records is about to make a strong
comeback. Already making a buzz is artist Z-Ro
with "These" featuring Scarface. This cut is
DOPE! Make sure you peep out the new single from my O.G.
dawgs Hi-C featuring DJ Quik "Let Me Know"
& new artist, Dirty with "That's Why I." All
three members of the Geto Boys are back in the
studio working on their reunion album so stay tuned.

news for the record industry. Warner Music Group
announced that it will cut more than 1,000 jobs,
including some top management positions. The company is
also consolidating the back-office functions of its
Elektra and Atlantic labels. The job cuts,
which are equivalent to 20 percent of Warner Music
Group's global work force, will take place over the next
month. Three senior executives will also be leaving the
company: Val Azzoli, the co-chairman of Atlantic
Records; the label's co-president Ron Shapiro and
Sylvia Rhone, the chairman of Elektra. Ahmet
Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records, will be
staying with the company but his exact role has yet to
be determined, according to company spokesman Will
Tanous. The company said it was still in
negotiations with Roger Ames about a senior
management role. Ames was chairman and CEO of
Warner Music when it was still part of Time Warner...
MC Sick from Buffalo, NY's WBNY is
celebrating their show's "Baby Steps' 5 Year
Anniversary!" "An event celebrating 5 years of quality
hip hop art in Buffalo and extending outward. The
underground hip hop scene here in the Queen City is now
thriving with driven artists (emcee’s, DJ’s, b-boys,
producers, event coordinators, engineers and graffich
artists) who are pushing the art form to the next level.
Baby Steps has been credited with sparking and
maintaining this rebirth of hip hop. Thus, fittingly,
the celebration is held back at the origination
location, with all the key contributors and patrons in
attendance. This year’s special guest, Breezly Brewin
of the Juggaknots has become synonymous with the
term underground hip hop for his incessant pushing of
the poetical envelope. His unorthodox rhyme patterns,
effortless vocal tone, and complex rhythms set Breez
apart from any hip hop artist out there past and
present. The Brewin’s main character role on Prince
Paul’s hip hopera "Prince Amongst Thieves" propelled
him into worldwide notoriety, while his Juggaknots,
"Clear Blue Skies" LP (which has just been remastered
and rereleased with new tracks) resoundingly introduced
him to hip hop as an immediate pioneer with an
underground classic," says MC Sick... Here's the latest
411 with WSYC's Chris Westbrooks (aka DJ
Kristyles), "April 17th is our

hit me up at:
dareal32@yahoo.com," says Dundee from L.A.'s
"DA RADIO SHOW" on 87.7FM... Sounds like
Chasekillz from WPSC in NJ was livin' large
in Las Vegas recently! "I was in Vegas for Magic
w/ the research group & met Pauly Shore,
Master P and Dame Dash all in one day! Weird
shit & I got to see Kanye West perform live &
that was fun," says Chase... Karam from Toronto's
CKRK wanted to share this with our Rap
Attack readers; "I wrote the following
paragraphs in an column I write for Canadian Music
Network. Inspired by conversations I've had lately
with a few people including one I had with Roozbeh
when I bumped into him at Ali's Roti Shop. "Some
independent Canadian artists I've spoke with recently
don't seem to understand the value of pressing vinyl for
DJs. They tend to see it simply as an expense. So the
next time I speak to an artist that might be reluctant
to press vinyl I'll tell them the following and I
encourage you to do the same. Treat vinyl as a business
card. It's a promotional tool. One of the more cost
effective tools available that can enable an artist to
get music out to a large audience. It's also a great way
to collect feedback from people who are considered taste
makers in their respective markets. I've spoke with many
[Canadian] DJs over the past few months and a few have
told me the same thing. They want more vinyl from
Canadian acts. They're tired of playing the same records
over and over again to fill CANCON requirements
on their radio shows. Canada needs to press more vinyl
and service it to DJs. Hip-Hop (and other music
considered urban) is different than other currently
popular music genres. The DJ has been a central figure
in the creation and maintenance of Hip-Hop music. DJs,
good ones anyways, are usually the first to identify a
new trend or artist. They are the ones keeping the music
alive in the clubs and on radio stations across the
country. I may sound like I'm preaching to the choir,
but we need to hammer these ideas into the minds of the
newcomers. What do you think?"... Here's what's up with
my pare', DJ EQ reppin' BK's WBCR, "It's
official, weeks w/ out sleep and a diet consisting of
Taco Bell, murder burgers, and Snapple Apple has finally
caught up to me. But other then being sick as fuck, I
had a great week last week. My show on the 25th was real
dope. Shout outs to everyone who came through and
supported. MC's that ripped it included: BUCKSHOT,
SEAN PRICE, STEELE, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE, LAST EMPEROR,
POISON PEN, WORDSWORTH, NATIVE GUNS, & HD. Shout out
to the DJ's who came through as well especially my
homegirl KUTTIN KANDI for holding it down on the
hosting duties and PF CUTTIN. My next event is
going down on April 28th. It's still pretty much an
event in progress, but for the most part - MC BATTLE
- $1,000 CASH PRIZE, HOSTED BY SUPERNAT & EVIL
DEE on the wheels providing the beats. So if any of
ya'll know of anyone who's battle ready and real hot,
hit em' up w/ my info"... DJ Honeycut from
KPSU in Portland is all smiles after hosting a sold
out B-Boy battle "Ashes 2 Ashes" with Seattle's
Massive Monkees as this years winner!... According
to Philly's DJ Meddafore, the hot topic right now is
G-Unit's "The Game vs Joe Budden" beef. Med
says, "The Game is a dope emcee but Joey was a murderer
on his latest diss. The Game said he was only doing one
song, but damn I think he might be feeling inspired to
respond after hearin Jump Off go off like that.
They both talking a lot of violent acts, but hopefully
it can stay on record, take notes from Nas &
Jay y'all! Also peep the new issue of RIME
