What's
upper! Can you believe April is just around the corner?
This year is passing us by faster than ya' know... The "RapAttackLives.com
Exclusive Promo Only Double Vinyl-Volume One" will
be dropping around the second week of April! The
response from artists, dj's & labels to get on this has
been overwhelming. This is not a tool that I'm trying to
make a profit from cause if you noticed what we're
charging to get your track (clean & dirty version) on
the vinyl, gettin' 500 vinyls pressed to service our Rap
Attack panel exclusively & mail out the vinyls to our
panel & selected labels, you are getting more than your
moneys worth! I felt Rap Attack needed to figure
out a way to help up & coming artists & labels who don't
have a big budget to get their ish pressed & mailed out
& a way for us to help your artist get the best
groundbreaking support & airplay from our dedicated
panel of dj's who break the majority of new Hip-Hop
music first & of course very reliable & honest when they
send you feedback. Big thanks to my potnah, Ahsan
"The Golden Child" from WRSU in NJ &
D-Media Group who is helping me with this new
venture. I'll announce who'll be on "Volume One" next
issue so stay tuned as Rap Attack continues to
support the underground & independent labels... To
celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the release of
"Return of the DJ," the worlds first all dj/all
scratching album, the Bomb Hip-Hop will host the
"RETURN OF THE DJ CONVENTION" in July 2005 in San
Francisco. This three day event will feature panels,
workshops and showcases. Stay tuned for more details as
they develop... The legendary, Almighty Kay Gee
of the Cold Crush Brothers has created a new
website that offers rare and "hard to find" Hip-Hop
battles & performances from 1979-1983 online! For the
first time online, you can purchase and own the classic
and historic performances that invented the bible for
today Hiphop MC’s. In the past, old generation tape
copies only existed of these groundbreaking shows. You
will be amazed on how these recordings show that the
“hardcore” version of Hiphop did exist in the beginning.
Due to pressures of radio friendliness and record
company ignorance, pioneering artist were prevented from
giving raw street performances on wax. It was such acts
as NWA who were credited a decade later with making edgy
records. Not until now has there been a nationally known
website to give such rare findings. In addition,
HiporHop.com offers pictures of classic
battles and architect inventors of the Rap element of
Hiphop culture. The Almighty himself declares, “I
did the site because there was no where anyone can go
online and buy original Hiphop music and I wanted
today’s youth universally to know real Hiphop and not
the program stuff you hear today on commercial radio. In
addition, for those that are new to Hiphop culture, this
site can be a learning tool given the historical aspects
beyond the rap element. “ For more info, log onto:

interview with Almighty Kay Gee, please contact Dee

cocheta@ablackclan.com... Anybody peep the new
Neptunes cut & video yet? Their ish is off the
hook! It's official, the Neptunes have defected from
Arista, moving their Star Trak label to
Jimmy Iovine's Interscope. The Grammy
Award winning duo will ink a deal worth an estimated
$5 million dollars. Under their new deal, Williams
and Hugo will continue to sign and produce
Star Trak artists, as well as acts on Interscope and
artists affiliated with the label... This just in from
Miami's Semp Rock (WGRP), "For those who
think I'm F*$king crazy for doing this, well all I have
to say is "You are right!". The past 7 years I've been
juggling between 2 full time jobs as well as my school
and other daily tasks, but it gets to a point where I
must lead in 1 direction and master what I know I'm
great at and pursue it. Public Wizard Inc. is
something I created and I will die with so I can never
be separated from this. Its been a hard decision as to
what I shall do. Bills, Passion, and mental health have
been the main factors that have lead to my decision. I
apologize for any slack there might have been in the
past with those few people, but as of MAY 15th I will be
running Public Wizard, INC. full-time. While I do have
other aspects of my company besides Radio promotions, I
will have more time to assist each and every person I
service personally. I am also reaching out to any of you
whom run your own street promotions company in your
market. I want to make sure I have a tight network of
companies and people I deal with personally already for
the project I am currently working on. Thank you for the
support thus far and understand that I'm not going
anywhere. You can hit me up for more info at (786)

Rap Attack MixTape Reporter,
DJ NickNack outta Austin, TX was representin' at
the latest SXSW convention & here's his lowdown
on what went down: "Whhhheeew. SXSW is finally over and
done with. It was a very productive week though I didn’t
get to see that many “official” showcases, b/c I was
performing from Wed-Fri of that week, however I did get
to see the Murder Dog showcase at Aussies with
Bun B and Dizzie Rascal. That show was off
the hook. Much respect to Matt Sonzala for
putting together a show with everyone from Swisha
House to Bavu Blakes. I also would like to
thank everyone who supported the Auxiliary Output Suite
shows and everyone who performed (Starsign,
Melodic, Haul and Mason, Lila’s
Medicine, Mel). It was also good to meet some
industry folks (big up to Jessica at Spectre,
Vinnie Clay, Fader Magazine,
Jimmy and Still Wil at Extensive Research,
James at Def Jam). If you live in Austin
and haven’t heard the NickNack “Improving Silence”
album, stop by Waterloo Records and it will be at
the Hear TX Music listening stations. You can
listen to the entire album before you buy it. If you
think the retail prices are too high for the CD, well we
just lowered the price to $12.95 for the CD, so stop by
www.crowdcontrolrecords.com and pick one up. If you
are still not sure about the album, check out what
everyone else is saying….
"Merging hip-hop and jazz into nothing short of
beautiful music, Improving Silence, should be heralded
as a classic." (4 out of 5 stars) Austin Chronicle
(Robert Gabriel)
"Improving Silence is an impressive album that deserves
all the attention and support." The Daily Texan "NickNack's
unique brand of downtempo is just what the doctor
ordered to counter these stressful days. As a member of
the jazz band Blaze, Nick brings a knack for
melodic instrumentation to the table, coupled with his
hip-hop background as a DJ in his native Texas. The
result is a smooth-operating long-player that'll leave
you with sweet dreams on wax." URB Magazine (El
Dopa) April 2004 "If you're as sick of rappers as I
am, then you sometimes just want to zone the fuck out
and walk off your hangover with a bottle of orange juice
and some music that doesn't feature a screaming moron in
your Walkman....So I'm not even going to try to tell you
about these records, I'm just going to tell you that
they've been good to me as I've stumbled home at four in
the morning with a bloody nose and fresh set of
batteries...NickNack's 'Improving Silence'[the jazzy
one]" Vice Magazine (Fritz The Cat) Vol 11
No 2
"It
is constructed around a lovely melancholy that is ever
so soothing." URB Magazine (El Dopa) December 2003
"Really lovely stuff with loads of guest musicians and
even a few sulty vocals...for fans of Wide Hive
or classic GiantStep sounds." XLR8R Magazine
(Toph One) March 2004
Much
respect goes out to those writers for taking the time to
listen and review the album. Thanks! For the next few
weeks I will be in the studio working on some new music,
so you all might not hear from me for a little while.
It’s time to become a creative hermit for a while. A big
shout goes out all the Texas cats who are making big
moves…Hydroponic Sound System (check for them on
the new Scion mix CD), Bavu Blakes (check for his
new Play the Role video and remix coming soon),
Chicken George (fresh off a Swedish tour and already
making big plans for 04), Soul Odyssey (check for
the new album coming soon), Tee Double (check for
his new Lone Star album dropping real soon), Element
(currently on hiatus, but this man has some big
things in the works), Chuck Coletti (currently
tour managing for Diverse). All you guys serve as
great inspiration!," NickNack... "First off,
KRUMBSNATCHA "Never Grow Up" is the HOTTEST fucking
joint of 2004 so far.Incredibly hot! Others we are
REALLY feeling are OC, Fel Sweetenberg,
The Away Team, that Young Gunz song (friday
night), Critically Acclaimed, Every fucking song
on the Halftooth Comp, Legacy, Chops
& Bahamadia, Jeru & JS1,
Perverted Monks, and of course, the Royce
cut... these are all the best out there in our opinion,"
DJ Aaron Wade (91.7FM, WMSE "The
Late Night Hype Show" Milwaukee)...
Let's
see what's up with our homeboyee, Edgie Kokoski
outta WUNH in NH: Some bizzare hip hop news bits
this week, including:
1. DMX is refusing to record any more records for
Def Jam, despite being under contract. He claims that
radio is controlled by record labels and that artists
have to produce "27 songs and only 16 make the album".
Maybe if he made 16 good songs, he could stop and go
home. Meanwhile, angry movie-goers are already lining up
to collect refunds for their tickets to "Never Die
Alone"
2. Redman & Method Man rejoice as they can
abandon their day jobs selling deodorant to star in a
new TV series called "Red & Meth". They play two wacky
rappers who move into an all white neighborhood. Some
episodes are already airing under the show's original
title "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". Speaking of Redman,
look out for a new terrible movie starring him oppposite
murderous doll "Chucky" in the new "Child's Play". Guess
what role Red is playing? Himself! Boy these rappers are
good actors. They play rappers to a f*cking T.
3. Snoop Dogg has been given an award for being
Pee Wee Football coach of the year in his town. I really
long for the return of the Snoop who had "b*tches in the
living room getting it on" and "the gauge, the uzi and
the muthaf*ckin .22". When you bought "Doggystyle", did
you ever dream that the man rapping would be an award
winning Pee Wee football coach?
LOL! I need to find a Delorian and go back to
1994 where DMX didn't exist, Redman said it was "Time 4
Sum Aksion" and Snoop Dogg was spending four years in
the county with nothing but convicts around him., Edgie
Kokoski (WUNH 91.3FM - 603. 862. 2987)... Celebrating

Hot new car entry Scion, in conjunction with the
Rebel Organization, Inc., is proud to present "ROUTE,"
a Hip-Hop film screenings tour. Route will
hit 20 college campuses across the country between April
and May 2004. Scion is partnering with various
different student organizations in order to host
screenings of four independent films that have played
key roles in the development of hip-hop culture and its
four elements — the MC, DJ, b-boy, and graffiti artist,
over the past two decades. For those craving the true
roots of rap, Wild Style (1982) captures the
hardcore South Bronx scene at its birth. The stars of
Wild Style form the pantheon of hip-hop’s pioneers
including DJs Grandmaster Flash, Grand Wizard
Theodore, rappers Grand Master Caz and The
Cold Crush Bros, b-boy champions the Rock Steady Crew,
and legendary subway artists such as LEE Quinones
and Sandra PINK Fabara. FAB 5 FREDDY, who
along with writer/producer/director Charlie Ahearn,
helped create Wild Style, shines as the smooth
hip-hop impresario PHADE. Wild Style
follows the outlaw artists through the train yards to
the rap/breakdance clubs. The movie climaxes at a
massive outdoor jam, possibly the most famous hip hop
party in history! The Freshest Kids
(2002), produced and directed by Evan “Israel”
Brenner, brings the illest b-boying this planet has
ever witnessed in over two-hours of hardcore breaking,
giving an all-access pass to the underground world of
b-boys spanning the last 25 years, proving that the
phenomenon introduced in Wild Style was not just
a fad, but an integral part of a permanent culture. See
and hear the early history via rare archival footage and
exclusive interviews with the freshest, and most
legendary b-boys of all time. Listen to hip-hop
superstars such as Afrika Bambaata, KRS-One,
Mos Def and many more as they come together to
reveal for the first time the most comprehensive history
of b-boying, its evolution and its place within hip-hop
culture and beyond. When
director Tony Silver and partner-producer
Henry Chalfant delivered Style Wars, their
prize-winning film, to PBS in 1984, the world
received its first full immersion in the phenomenon that
had taken over New York City. The urban landscape was
transformed by graffiti artists who invented a new
visual language to express both their individuality, and
the voice of their community. Throughout the film, New
York’s legendary kings of graffiti, such as Dondi,
Zephyr, Crash and Kase, plus
Crazy Legs and the Rock Steady Crew, reveal the
roots of graffiti art and b-boy breaking, helping to
define the integral role of the graff artist in the
hip-hop pantheon. Also showing is Style Wars :ReVisited
— the 2003 update on the lives of the original kings.
Taking a slight step away from defining the roots
of hip-hop, Dithers, a documentary by Reid van
Renesse, serves to show how the elements of the
culture presented in the other films have affected the
urban artists of today. The first in a series of visual
commentaries of the American contemporary art scene to
be released by FIFTY24SF and Upper Playground,
the documentary is an extraordinary showcase featuring
exclusive art and interviews with some of today’s most
influential graffiti and street artists, designers, and
photographers. Featuring one-on-one interviews with the
artists in which they reveal personal anecdotes, their
artistic styles and techniques, as well as their
struggles, the film gives much perspective into what
motivates today’s urban artists to succeed in their
ever-evolving industry. All four of the films presented
in the ROUTE tour were made by independent
filmmakers who not only embrace hip-hop culture and its
associated art forms, but have a passion for exposing
the roots of the culture and spreading the word about
it. Scion appreciates the passion of these filmmakers
and is happy to support them and the culture represented
by their films to a new generation of free minds.
Scion is a new car company with a new approach to
presenting its products. “Instead of the usual hype
people get from most corporations, Scion is devoted to
giving young people things they care about like good
music, movies, and art,” says Jeri Yoshizu, sales
promotions manager for Scion. “We are optimistic that
if we are real about giving our market what they want,
they will be real about checking out our cars.” All
screenings are FREE of charge. Early arrival is
suggested as capacity is limited. For more information

With the FCC cracking
down now with radio, I think the future of satellite
radio is upon us. SIRIUS is looking for mixes to
be aired on their satellite network & here's the 411
regarding that from the Wonder Twinz, "
What the deal peoples. I was asked yesterday to reach
out to some of the DJs we know and make a request (no
pun intended). SIRIUS has a stream called "WAX" where we
play mixes from DJs all over. We are currently looking
for more mixes to put into a rotation. They are REALLY
looking for more mixes from cats down south & on the
west coast. They get a ton of mixes from east coast DJs
and alot of them have the same east coast stuff on them.
If you were to send in about 2 mixes a week, they would
rotate out your old mixes each time. Unfortunately there
is no compensation for these mixes but they have already
started giving permanent time slots to certain cats who
have been consistent and who have put a little sometime
extra into their mixes. Here's how it goes down:
- 20 minute mixes with a good intro and outro.
- Uncensored.
- No emails, phone #, or websites.
If you're down, please holla at: Ronnie Triana
