NASTYMIX FLASHBACK! Sir Mix-A-Lot
& Nasty-Nes! |

[[ May 3, 2004 ]] |

What's
upper! This is the week for the Urban Network
Conference, May 5-8 at Palm Springs' Riviera
Resort. I'll be rollin' out there with WCBN's, DJ
Chill Will this Thursday afternoon & I look
forward to seeing some familiar faces again. While
you're there & you want to hook up, hit me on my 2way
at:
nasty-nes@sprintpcs.com or call me at (818)
917-2217. A couple of panels worth peepin' on the
Hip-Hop tip are: DJ Symposium: Mixshow & College DJ's
(Friday-May 7th from 2:30PM-4PM) featured guests on
the panel are Rap Attack's DJ
Yoshi, DJ B-Mello outta Seattle's KEXP
& KUBE 93, DJ Solo from Ch'rewd Mktg.
in Chicago, Jessica Weber outta SPECTRE &
more! Hip-Hop In The Round (Saturday-May 8th from
11AM-1PM) featured guests on the panel are King Tech
from the Wake Up Show, Carmelita Sanchez,
from BET's Programming Dept., Kelly G., from the
group Salt-N-Pepa, DJ Spinderrella who's
now an on air personality on L.A.'s KKBT (The
Beat) & more! I'll see you there... Ok, on the r&b
music tip, I gotta give big props to the brand new
Teena Marie album "La Dona" (Cash Money/Universal).
From the original diva who brought you the old school
classics "Lovergirl," "Ooh La La La La" & "Fire
& Desire"
with Rick James, here she is close to 20 years
later & Teena Marie still sounds as good as ever. Her
new album features some tight ass r&b tracks & ballads
with one of my favs "I Love Him Too" featuring De De
O'Neal an up & comer who I think's got the vocals to
make her large & in charge just like Teena! Peep it "La
Dona"... Make sure you peep out my O.G. dawg's new 12"
"Let's Go" (Nature Sounds) by Chris Lowe.
This cat like me, reps the old school & Lowe was the
first to discover the famed Skull Snaps breakbeat
for the classic Stezo joint "It's My Turn"
(re-popularized & sampled on Gang Starr's 'Take
It Personal'). My preference is The Black Side featuring
Fort Knox & Chuck Chillout which brings
back the classic '88 Hip-Hop sound back to 2004! Hit up
Papa-D for copies at (888) 513- 3998... Courtesy
of Def Jam's Mike Money, I sent out a
MP3 Freestyle last week to our Rap Attack
panel featuring DJ Cocoa Chanelle & Sheek.
Cocoa Chanelle is startin' to make a lot of heads turn &
ears open up in the music industry so be aware! On the
Def Jam servicing tip, Mike Money wants to stress to our
panel that the way the mailout system works, not every
dj will get every single release. A lot of who gets what
is cleared first through Mike's upper hands at Def Jam &
not by him. If you need a specific joint & don't have
it, don't hate on Mike just hit him up with an email &
politely request that product to:
idjcolr@umusic.com...
You ready to get crunked out? Peep this, TVT Records
will release their compilation, "CRUNK CLASSICS"
mid-Summer 2004. The disc is a collection of cornerstone
Crunk anthems from those pioneers south of the
Mason-Dixie line - Three Six Mafia, Too Short,
Iconz, UGK, Drama to name a few. "CRUNK
CLASSICS" is the definitive collection for anyone whom
has come to love the irresistibly unfettered and
exuberant body-slamming tracks topped with chant-heavy
vocals, all designed to get listeners to move beyond
their deepest inhibitions. If you are interested in a n
advanced copy of "CRUNK CLASSICS," contact Joe
Wiggins online at:
joe@tvtrecords.com
or at (212) 979-6410 extension 290... From the
projects of Omaha, Nebraska, get ready for some Midwest
flava'd Hip-Hop from Struggle-Pac (Tavon's
Entertainment Group). For more info & to get a taste
of some of that Midwest flav, log onto:
www.struggle-pac.com... Capitol Records &
ESP have mailed out exclusively to our Rap
Attack panel the new Slum Village "Reunion"
(produced by Jay Dee) b/w " Selfish." Watch your
mail as Capitol Records' Sonny-D makes it happen
for all of us!... I'm very excited to get an advance
listen to El Gant's "The Evolution Of
Execution" (Nacirema Records). The new single
shipping this week is "All That I Got" b/w "Pressure"
featuring The Plan Be. Make sure you bump El
Gant's ish on your ones & two's once you get it aiight...
My O.G. from da old school days, Amad Henderson
(formerly of Impact Magazine) has a
couple new releases about to drop that I want to hip you
too ahead of time. This May stay tuned for The Beam
"What Can I Say" a phat blend of southern bounce
meets the underground streets of Hip-Hop and the debut
r&b release of J Blanding "No Rush" both on
Hot Damn Entertainment. Once vinyl's pressed, I'ma
push to get our panel laced cause both joints are PHAT!...
Brian "DJ Wicked" Coulombe from WBRS in MA.& of:
www.wickedawesomerecords.com recently wrote me, "
Ha-ha! I finally saw "Kung Pow! Enter The Fist" at a
friends crib & the movie was surpisingly hilarious. Much
props to Nasty-Nes on his cameo! I also made it
out to the Ghostface release show in NYC last
night and it was crazy. So many great moments, inlcuding
Kay Slay being booed off stage. Show was well worth the
trek from Boston." Thanks Brian. And if you enjoyed
watching "Kung Pow!" or love watching martial art
movies, than get ready for "Shaolin Soccer!" "Shaolin
Soccer" shows the game of soccer in "bullet time," so
the eye follows the action at the velocity of the ball
itself. A kicked ball morphs into a fiery comet and then
a flaming tiger as it races across the field. Another
ball creates a vortex as it flies through the air,
chewing up the field and everything in its path. Players
constantly defy the laws of physics by leaping several
stories and doing impossible back-flips. At one point,
the impact of supersonic soccer balls blows the unlucky
goalie away." To all lovers of comedy and martial arts,
"SHAOLIN SOCCER" is a masterpiece of both arts & you can
log on to their website to peep the movie trailer at:
http://miramax.com/shaolin_soccer/index.html ...
Rap Attack's own outta New Jersey,

West Virginia will never be the same! Answering the
demand for creative mixes of new and hit music,
NaShional Management, Tech.Nition, and

a simple thought and conversation between DJ's Wicked &
Yoshi manifested into an agreement which will allow them
to bring QUALITY music to the WRVZ listening audience.
When asked to comment about his decision to join the
WRVZ Saturday Mixshow Squad, DJ Yoshi smiles: “The best
part about the show? NO PLAYLIST RESTRICTIONS!”
Several outside markets have already expressed interest
in airing the Saturday mixes that will be presented by
the DJ's as well. Currently they are considering the
viability of offering the show in a syndicated format.
Each week the DJ’s will divide the time, allowing for
each to express his style and offer opportunities to
break the newest music, and highlight upcoming smashes!
Stay tuned for more details & congratulations once again

“Supreme Clientel”. “I Said Banana Nutriment!!!!!!” Haha.
Anyways saw Ozomatli tear the house down on

says DJ A-Beats and DJ Lynch Present (WGMU
in Wash. DC)... David Muhammad from Madison, WI's
WSUM is keeping busy these days. Here's what's
upper with D. Muhammad, "I'm back on the radio grind
after a few weeks of event planning hell! First,
let me thank everybody who showed love and supported the
5th Annual Hip Hop Generation-Hip Hop As A Movement
conference. Despite a lot of drama, the event came off
thanks to heads like Justin and Eric Liek
and WSUM 91.7 FM's own music director,
Errol Packard. Big respect to Nasty-Nes, who
was unable to make it do to some scheduling mishaps but
was very supportive nonetheless. Also much love to
Nash from Sony, the homegirl Alma,
JJ from Trilogy, G Brown, Crazy DJ
Bazzaro from Future Flavas, DJ EQ from
WBCR, the whole WKPO Hot 105.9 staff:
especially ST and Triple X- For not being
scared to scream on the commercial radio game! DJ
Aaron Wade and Bobby Brew- the two funniest
MF's in WI! Bro DJ, and everybody else who made
it out and participated. X-Tra large shouts to DJ
Chela No.1 from WXDU who rocked the
Youngbloodz/dead prez afterparty. Shit was
crazy!!! Also respect to Immortal Technique who
co-headlined the bill with Andrew WK for WSUM
91.7's Party In The Park this past weekend.
Technique happily scared the shit out of about 2,000
white hippies and they were loving it! Big up's to
WSUM's own J-Ryf, host of WSUM's Underground
Nation, who made our Top 10 with his remix of
Shabaam Sahdeeq's "Are You Ready." J is
really putting in work and is poised to make noise with
his knowledge of Hip-Hop. As usual, thanks go out to Nes
and the Rapattacklives.com staff, Alma, Chiko,
Nash, Spliff, Justin Boyd, Jessica,
Rebecca, Papa D, Kate, JJ,
Chasekillz and to everybody for keeping this thing
going!"... "I was reading on CNN today how
someone stole a Stradivarius
violin valued at $3.5 million dollars. Los
Angeles Philharmonic has come out and stated that
the thief can return the violin "no questions asked".
Well, I have a few questions to ask:
1. Who was out taking a whiz when somebody waltzed
off with a $3.5 million dollar instrument?
2. Do they think that the thief is gonna just hand the
thing over now that they have publicized that it is
worth $3.5 million dollars?
3. How is a violin worth $3.5 million dollars? Did Jesus
play it or something? For 3.5 million bucks, that thing
better be able to play itself. And make me a sandwich at
the same time.
Thank God the music business is in the toilet
far enough where I can go to Best Buy and get the new
Ghostface and
D12 cds for
$9.99 a piece. I never thought I'd see the day when
cds were the same price as cassettes. Then again, I
never thought I'd see the day when my beloved
New York Giants
would score the best QB in the NFL draft. Whoo Hoooo! I
hear Suge Knight
has signed the ex-G
Unit guys to a deal. I guess he wants to
continue his tradition of signing artists that no one
gives a flying f*ck about. Next on his list: the booted
members of Destiny's Child
and Solange
Knowles. So I will be leaving the cozy
confines of NH this week and trekking down to visit my
buddy in Sarasota, Florida. I'll be soaking up sun rays,
floating in the Gulf of Mexico, and taking more shots
than Al Pacino did in "Scarface". My only hope is
that this vacation can live up to my last trip, when I
spent a week tearing the club up in Trillville!,"

STRANGE FRUIT: Strange Fruit
are
two emcee's, Stonehands and Ol' Soul based
outta L.A.'s "818" & "213" area codes. Rhyming together
as a group for the past four years, Strange Fruit
describes their sound as raw & uncut Hip-Hop bordering
between the sounds of Outkast to Black Eyed
Peas. "We don't just use samples in our music but
incorporate live instrumentation," says Ol' Soul.
Strange Fruit can best be described as the neo-soul &
ambience of Hip-Hop & after you peep their debut "Who
Killed Hip-Hop (Gangsta's Die Young)" you will soon see
& hear this group becoming the next big ish to break out
big from Southern Cali!
HILL-B:
Ex-NFL
linebacker & former member of the Denver Broncos
& Seattle Seahawks, Hillary Butler,
aka Hill-B is no stranger to the mic since he was
13 years old! Just completing his 1st solo album debut
as a Producer/Artist with "Different Game,
Same Aim," you'll get to peep his debut single "It's A
Fiesta" on your one's & two's. Unlike other kats from
pro NFL & NBA status turned part time rapper,
Hill-B stands out on his own & has the lyrical skills &
production skills to prove others wrong as he takes his
passion to full time status. Hill-B expects nothing less
than the same success "off the field" that he has
experienced "on the field" as he focuses on his new
venture into the music industry.
SPECIFICS: Specifics
is a
three man crew outta Montreal, Canada with local DJ
Goser from Montreal, Think Twice originally
from the west coast U.S. & Golden from Vancouver,
B.C.. Together as a group for four years, the name
Specifics comes from attention & detail to the beats,
lyrics & cuts. Already making a huge buzz & big noise in
Montreal, their name speaks for itself, "Expression &
learning about each other through music & making people
come together & nodding heads!" Each group member's
musical influences ranges from Dean Martin to
Pete Rock to Busta Rhymes. Get ready as
Montreal blesses the U.S. with their single, "TGIM" &
the name Specifics becomes one of Hip-Hop's household
names as our Rap Attack panel gets the
opportunity to be the first to break & make this group!
NSS16:
Get
ready as these four very diverse girls (African
American, Asian, Latina & White descent) hit the mic!
NSS16 is their name & they've landed a sweet record
deal under record label mogul, Tommy Mattola's
new label, Casablanca Records. "OopDeeWopDee"
(The Remix) is produced & remixed by Grammy
winner & hitmaker, Gregory Lawson and Hakeem
Khaaliq. NSS16 covers it all musically when it comes
to pop, Hip-Hop, r&b and soul. Rap Attack
is very privileged to be picked as one of the outlets in
breaking NSS16 via our loyal & dedicated Rap Attack
dj's! "OopDeeWopDee" is Hip-Hop meets reggae &
again, we get the opportunity to be the first to break
NSS16 before this group crosses over!
J
BULLY:
A
native of Raleigh, NC & now reppin' the ATL, J Bully's
been rapping since he was in the 4th grade! "When
breakdancing was the shit, I was too fat to backspin, &
too broke to buy turntables so rapping became my
forte'," says J Bully. Describing his sound as "Educated
Thug Muzik," J Bully is a battle emcee who focuses on
his lyrics but his education & street influences have
made his style gutter, witty & unpredictable. Thousands
of viewers have caught his lyrical skills battling on
BET's 106 & Park "Freestyle Friday."
Originally known as "Tha Jugganaut" then "Jugga
The Bully," J decided to shorten his emcee name to
"J Bully" to keep from having to whoop muthaf#cka's ass
when they mispronounced his name! "Hot Shit" is the
single that's gonna put this bully on the maps via
college rap radio, internet rap shows & of course
mixtape dj's! Watch the streets, clubs & radio react to
"Hot Shit" as J Bully bullies his way onto your wheels
of steel!
SHOUT OUT TIZIME:
Happy
Birthday to Magic Mike (WPYO-Orlando, FL).
To everyone who'll be chillin' at the Urban Network
conference this week in Palm Springs!
