What's
upper! Happy 4th Of July (Independence Day)... This
years' "2004 BET Awards" was off the hook.
Much props as BET gave props to 25 years of Hip-Hop
featuring live performances by the Sugarhill Gang,
MC Lyte, GrandMaster Melle Mel & Slick
Rick reuniting with Doug E. Fresh taking us
back with their classics, "La-Di-Da-Di" & "The Show!"
You know, it feels like just yesterday when I was on
stage introducing to the Seattle crowd for the first
time all the above artists I just mentioned. Time flies
but those memories will last forever.WOW!!!... Last
Thursday night was one of the highlights of my busy week
as I attended the SHURE "Vinyl Kombat" DJ
battle here at L.A.'s El Rey Theater. Props to my
Seatown brother & Rap Attack Mixtape Reporter,
DJ DV-One, Christie Z. Pabon & Bill
Needlz from Shure for puttin' on one of the
tightest dj battles I've ever been to. Big ups to
Rhettmatic for doin' a great job as the host.First
off, the guest performances were off the hook.
Dilated Peoples rocked the crowd, A-Trak did
some sampling ish that was totally on some next level
turntable ish, Sinista is indeed a true X-ecutioner
& Swamp did some ish by rockin' his needle to
some Black Sabbath riff. UNBELIEVABLE what
I witnessed! The judges were: Mista Sinista, A-Trak,
P Trix, DV-One & Bill Needlz. The final 8 were:
Dini vs. Etronik, Quix vs. Entec,
DJ n/a vs. Virus and Myron vs.
Ejay. The L.A. Regional champ went out to DJ Quix &
this kat deserved it... Here are the NATIONAL DATES FOR
The Shure Inc./Vinyl Kombat DJ Battle &

www.vinylkombat.com:

July 16: The Parish, Austin, TX
July 18: BB Kings, New York City
July 30: SomArts Cultural Center, San Francisco
Aug 5: The Showbox, Seattle
Aug. 8: Nation, Washington DC
August 19: The Metro, Chicago
The "Immortal Turntable Series" is a monthly series put
together by Lord Finesse to bring forth the
legendary DJ icons responsible for the evolution of
Hip-Hop. With the goal of providing a break from this
era of oversaturated commercial music, the DJ’s in this
series will be playing a rare set that will highlight
their immortal abilities. July 28th 25th
spotlights Diamond D & The 45 King at NY's
Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street in the East Village).
Next to Marley Marl, the 45 King is the most
prolific producer in Hip-Hop history yet he is known by
few outside rap's inner circles. The 45 King (real name:
Mark James) started DJ'ing locally in New Jersey
in the mid-80's. His ability to make beats from obscure
45 rpm records was the basis for his nickname as "The 45
King." Currently, the 45 King is supposedly working on a
solo project, a compilation of rappers over his beats.
If there's any justice in the world, the album will blow
up and give the 45 King the respect and notoriety he
rightly deserves. Diamond D is the emcee who made your
favorite rapper today rhyme better and inspired favorite
producers. With his early work on projects by Fat Joe,
Brand Nubian, Show & A.G and his must have
debut album, Diamond D was a link in the chain from the
birth of Hip-Hop to the future. Diamond’s style has
always been centered around funk loops and floor-shaking
percussion. The sound is simple but it reeks of true
Hip-Hop then, now and always. Like others, Diamond
carries the professionalism including a Grammy
and a multi-platinum status. But unlike most, Diamond D
is deeply in the streets and carries a credibility with
Hip-Hop that few can even get close to. So if you're in
the NYC, make sure you peep them out at NY's Joe's Pub
on July 28. Stay tuned as Tony Touch will be
featured there on August 25th & Peanut Butter Wolf
on September 29th. Sponsored by Elemental
Magazine, you can get more info on this event by
hittin' up Fiona B. at (718) 237-2969 or online
at:
fiona@thebloomeffect.com... BBE Records is
blowin' ish up with the phat new releases by Foreign
Exchange, Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock,
Roy Ayers, Siji & Baadasssss (music from &
inspired by the film). I know as a fact that the Foreign
Exchange "Connected" album is getting a lot of love from
our Rap Attack panel. If you need to get laced,
give a shout to Eddie B. from BBE at (212)
809-0136 or online at:
eddie@bbemusic.com.
Peep out BBE's website too at:
www.bbemusic.com...
ATTN: MIXTAPE DJ'S; If you've got a new mixtape
dropping within' the next 2 months & would like to get a
freestyle or a drop from Jinx Da Juvy or Ike
Dirty, make sure you contact Angie Hunt over
at Teflon Musik at (212) 629-5015 or online at:
greatbrit5@aol.com. You'll need to provide her
with your: DJ name, name of mixtape, deadline of
material, which artist you want the drop from and if you
have a script with what you want said, you must include
that to Angie, aiight?...
Last
week, I had the pleasure of meeting, DJ Roslynn
from
www.thirdfloorradio.com &
www.littleBgirl.com
clothing (see photo above). She's playing a big role
in promoting the new Black Eyed Peas video "APL
Song" & I wanted to feature here in "Nasty News"
her thoughts on that, " This video will literally
touch the hearts of millions out there. After I first
read the amazing treatment that "Debut" producer and "Lumpia"
director Patricio Ginelsa wrote, I did everything in my
power to make sure that this video was created. Now that
it is over I can see that world perceptions will change
not only on Filipinos, but to our respected elderly and
World War II veterans. I can't give away the story, you
have to see it to understand it. First, grab the 5
million sold "Elephunk" album that your mom bought and
listen to the "Apl Song"sample from original Folk
artists, Asid. APL is one of the most prolific and
intelligent writers that has more to say than Mr.
Testerote on Saved By the Bell. His story from adoption
to international superstar will have an inspirational
effect on anyone who has a dream in this world. The
Xylophone Films production team from AJ to Christina to
Don to Pat worked hard to present a video that will make
you pick up the phone and call every person in your
family to remind them how much you love them. A sense of
family that our community prides itself on. There were
so many Filipino All Stars on set you sware there was a
sale on dunks or Louis Vutton. (you know I gotta poke
fun) =) Can we name drop?
Ok
here we go:
Chad Hugo (is he Filipino? Yes he is Mr. Neptunes),
DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkie who looks like I am grabbing
him in the ass in our picture above),
Dante Basco (stop calling him Rufio because he has done
10 films after that)
Joy Bisco (Port Charles hottie who you can hang a
picture of your wall as well as have an intelligent and
fun conversation with), Vicky Mercado (talented and
hottest producer you will ever meet) MunMun (Lumpia
stare in your eyes and make you laugh),
Flipside cast,
Polo Molina (Third Floor Radio artist manager of the
year),
Yashua (Burning Star prophet) and more. You have to see
it to believe it. There are so many videos on MTV right
now that I feel embarrassed at 24 to watch with all the
dancing Oscar hopeful video hoes in G strings getting
Tipsy. But this is something we can finally play in
front of our kids, at the family parties and guaranteed
to be on TFC more than the "Ocho Ocho" dance. Fergi, one
of 50 most beautiful People shows why she deserves the
title, gotta say the stylist did a great job =) She
will have all the kids asking for "traditional filipino
skirts" at Forever 21 and all of us actually using our
LA Fitness memberships trying to work out our abs. All
the Peas make an appearance and allow their humble Apl
partner to shine and boy does he deserve it. I hope he
runs for president as Will is a great model in the
political field that he can work with. I honestly think
this is one of the best Peas videos ever made, we all
miss the "Head Bobs" "Fallin Up" videos style and wish
they made a video to "Que Dices." This video truly
captures how BEP will always manage to push the envelope
and among all the shadiness of the dictated 4080 music
industry can still manage to maintain a powerful message
and change the world. Let's take TRL by storm...maybe
you will win a date with Vanessa Manilo if it makes it
on!" So there it is.
Listen
up cause this Friday, July 9th you can log on to peep
the "AP Song" video at:
http://www.xylophonefilms.com/bep.html or at:
http://www.kidheroes.net/aplsong.htm. Make sure
you put your votes in on July 26th & help us make this
the #1 music video on MTV's "TRL!"
Maraming salamat...

"Happy Canada Day and Independence Day. Honestly, I
won't be celebrating. On one hand, I'm very happy I live
where I do (there are much worst places in the world).
But on the other hand, I'm angered by what my government
does, supposedly on my behalf, at home and abroad.
Canadians voted another bullshit government into power
on Monday. Hopefully it won't last too long. I got a
chance to see Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."
If you've been following the links in these emails for
the past few years then there isn't any new information
in the film. Most of the footage is old news. But I
realise there are a lot of people out there who aren't
fortunate enough to know me (just kidding). Tell all
your friends to see it anyway, it's a start. If you want
to read more on 9/11 check out:
http://whatreallyhappened.com and follow the
links to all the other sites. The latest prediction I've
read: There will be a draft in the US around April 2005.

(WSUM-Madison, WI): "Peace and What's Good Radio
Fam????? Please forgive the lapse in time, I've been
busy teaching this summer so shit has been hectic. First
I wanna extend much love to EQ, Scan and
Chela who kicked it with me in Newark at the
National Hip Hop Political Convention. It was quite
an experience and definitely represents the maturing of
Hip-Hop culture and needless to say, everybody should be
getting involved in some way. I've been gigging
frequently at a couple spots throughout WI, but check
for me at the end of July in NYC. I'll be spinning at
Nightengales and more details will be forthcoming, so
definitely show some love. Congratulations to my brother
Greg "Ginx" Doby of Regime
Records, who scored a good look on the Lloyd
Banks album. Ginx produced the cut "Karma" and it's
already getting burn so I know he'll be loving the BDS
on that one. ***best moment of the week*** Recieving
