What's
upper! I gotta thank Hahn Solo & Web
Entertainment for sponsoring last week's Rap
Attack Conference Call. Our guests were King
Gordy & The Fat Killahz who are both outta
Detroit & on tour right about now with D-12! King
Gordy's new joint featuring Fat Killahz "Fat-Tastic 4"
is fun joint to bust on your wheels while the b-side "No
Lights" takes a 360 degree turn & deals with more
serious issues which I think you're gonna like. The album
by the Fat Killahz "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" is an
album worth waiting for. There's a track on there "Come
One Come All" that I am feeling big time & predict will
be a huge record for them. If you like D-12, you'll love
the Fat Killahz. Stay tuned... Scion's unyielding
resolve to discover and nurture cutting edge style and
talent continues with the exciting new Scion:NextUp
competition, a contest giving aspiring rappers a chance
to show off their rhyming skills and vie for a chance to
win a Scion Marketing Deal worth $50,000! The lucky
wordsmith will have their music heard via a marketing
deal, which will include a fully produced music video,
and the opportunity to perform their winning song at
Scion sponsored events. Produced in collaboration with
INFORM and the RUN GROUP, the competition
follows Scion's organic vision by allowing the winning
emcee to keep his/her own master tapes, a rarity in
these days of manufactured music artists.
By developing this promotion, Scion hopes to provide
opportunity for artists in an environment where it¹s
often difficult to break through. The availability of
homegrown sounds through new music tools, and the
interaction and promotion power of the internet are
creating a new model for the music industry. "Through
Scion:NextUp, this new model will be explored by
providing the artist a means of development and
promotion while giving the public a chance to voice
their opinion.
Scion understands that artists need a forum for
expression and exposure," says Brian Bolain,
Scion National Sales Promotions Manager. "We see
Scion:NextUp as a perfect opportunity during our
national rollout to deliver the brand¹s message of
self-expression, while providing artists a platform for
exposure and development that might otherwise be
unavailable to them." Judges for early phases of the
competition include Bryan Leach (TVT Records,
Vice President of Urban A&R), Just Blaze
(super-producer, produced tracks for Jay-Z,
Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous
and others) and Eric Cubiche (LA radio host of
"B-Syde" on 100.3 the Beat). But the final stage
will be in the hands of the public via on-line voting
(all those registered will also be in the running for a
Scion prize pack). With its highly visible ad campaign
"Scion byŠ" (featuring a cross-section of artists from
the realms of photography, urban art, digital animation
and music production) and the completion of its launch
nationwide last month, Scion is quickly becoming one of
the most distinctive and recognized forces in the auto
industry, a brand that not only demands notice for its
unique designs, but as a laboratory of personal
expression that continues to grow in the streets. In
addition to Scion:UpNext, other grass roots-level
promotions include: "On the D.L.," a short film
featuring ?uestlove (of the Roots) and
beat master King Britt (formerly of Digable
Planets), "Sessions" national underground event
program, and the "Free Up Your Mix" project, which seeks
out the best new DJ in the country. For complete contest
rules log on to:

Chicago's own, Static is making a strong summer
'04 debut with his new joint, "Bird Call" featuring
Baby from the Cash Money posse! This track
will heat up your airwaves & the clubs... Former Lost
Boyz front man Mr. Cheeks is heading out on a
month long U.S. tour featuring legendary producer
Pete Rock and Truth Hurts. The tour will
feature songs from Cheeks' album 'Ladies & Ghettomen'
due to hit stores in late September on Cheeks' Legal
Drug Money Records. "I came up with that album title
because that's what I deal with," says Cheeks. The tour
kicks off August 3rd at SOB's in New York City hitting
16 cities throughout the US on the way and wrapping up
in Philadelphia at the end of the month. The single
"It's Alright" features Truth Hurts, and is the first
single from Cheeks forthcoming 'Ladies and Ghettomen'
album, which features production by Pete Rock. Rock and
Cheeks met each other years ago and decided to make
their new collaboration a modern day take on the smooth,
soulful sound that both Cheeks and Rock helped
popularize in the 90's. "The fans haven't heard from me
in a while and they haven't heard from Pete in a while,
so we just hit them in the head with that flavor that's
still poppin off."
'Ladies and Ghettomen' marks the first release on
Cheeks' up and coming Legal Drug Money Records through a
deal with Contango Records. Now with his own
label and his 'Ladies and Ghettomen' album and the tour,
Mr. Cheeks is ready to unload another satisfying batch
of his signature brand of good-natured music, along with
Pete Rock, and Truth Hurts.

(WHRW-NY):
"DJ Phenomejohn is no longer w/ The Live and Direct
Radio show on 90.5FM WHRW in Binghamton, NY. He
will no longer be doing that show or other shows. He was
kicked off of The Live and Direct Show for his lack of
hustle and dedication. If it isn't too much of a
problem, I would like to request you send this
information to the people at Def Jam who continue
to service him. He is simply a bedroom Dj at this point.
Thank you"... Kate Livingston (WOZQ-MA):
"After 5 years as a DJ/ Urban Music Director at WOZQ
UrbanRevolutions- The ONLY All- Female Hip Hop
Department in College Radio- I’ve decided it’s time to
let some of the young un’s have some fun. As of
mid-September 2004, I will be stepping down as Urban
Music Director and passing the torch to my dear
friend Mary Fuller. Known on campus as M.Dot,
this girl is one of the dopest females out East. She’s
been holding us down for the past couple years as WOZQ’s
top party DJ- and has campus literally on lock. I’m not
even exaggerating when I say that she has a posse 8
ladies deep following her around everywhere she goes.
This decision comes in the wake of some major changes in
my schedule- mainly my promotion to online hip hop
editor at Beautiful Decay Magazine. As most of you know,
Beautiful Decay is the killer graffiti/public arts mag
based out of LA and NYC that I’ve been working with for
some time. In just its second year, B/D’s popularity has
soared- bringing current circulation to 28,000…and
growing with each new issue. Published on a quarterly
basis, B/D has worldwide distribution through Tower
Records and can also be found in Borders and indie
retailers across America. I have been a staff writer
since 2003, contributing hip hop music reviews and
articles to our quarterly print edition. I have now been
named the hip hop editor for Beautiful Decay’s online
counterpart- B/D Anthology. Beginning in August 2004, I
will be in charge of mapping out the hip hop content for
the MONTHLY online supplement- in addition to my usual
print assignments. So that’s the story. I will be
updating you guy’s with Mary’s contact info in the Fall,
but in the meantime, please continue to service us at
the current address. If at all possible, I would still
like to be personally serviced with your records for use
in Beautiful Decay. For the past year, your promos have
been working double time- as I’ve been using them for
print and online reviews as well as putting them in
station rotation. Being in the radio servicing circuit
has been invaluable for my work at the mag. It is an
incredible opportunity for your artists to gain added
promo and publicity through one of the nation’s best
urban art/culture magazines. Please feel free to forward
my info to your artists, affiliates and publicists…and
holla’ at me anytime for review requests and artists
features! And don’t forget to pick up the Beautiful
Decay Issue H out on August 20th featuring
Insight and Prince Po! Here's my current
mailing address: 161 South Street, Apt. 2R,
Northampton, MA 01060"... Jason Gloss (WOWL-FL):
"1. This week's guests on the show are Ill Al Skratch
& B-Real of Cypress Hill. We may not
be the biggest and baddest show, but not many are fuckin'
with us. Not only do we bring weekly heat and dope ass
guests and one of the most popular message boards on the
net, but we got an album droppin' September 7th on
Vintage Music that will definitely being a summer
banger. It's going to be distributed by Redeye (Pharcyde,
Jeru), so expect to see it at all retail chains
near you. Atleast I hope :) We'll be servicing the 12"
single featuring Brother Ali, Dave Ghetto,
Supastition & Styles of Beyond to
college & mixshow DJ's, so i'f you wanna support--holla
and we'll make it happen! 2. One of LA's finest clothing
designers Brown Bubble have created a
Philaflava t-shirt. Now, it doesn't matter if you're
from Philly, listen to our show or even know what the
hell it means (shit I don't), but if you're a hip-hop
fan--you NEED this shirt! They made them for both men
and woman, so if you rep that "Ol' Boom-Bap,"
then check it out @
www.brownbubble.com and order you one (or two). Keep
in mind, this shirt has NOTHING to do with my
site. They (Brown Bubble) handle all the business for
the shirt. So please do not ask me for a freebie, I
don't have that availability. But I would appreciate if
you supported it, that is if you like it"... DJ
Honeycut (KPSU-OR): "Ok, my tenure as
Hip-Hop Director is coming to an end soon. At the
end of the month a new director shall take the reigns
and I will be on a plane headed to New York City. The
new director is named JAY BUTLER and he is a nice
guy who loves talking about Hip-Hop so expect lots of
feedback. I'll introduce him futher next week when he
will be helping me compile the chart. Anyway as I stated
earlier, I will be headed to New York City. So if your
in the area and have any advice on the spots to hit or
you own a label and looking to employ a young buck in
the game hit me up"... EQ (WBCR-NY): "This
past weekend had to have been the best weekend this
summer thus far. I had my 10 yr. elementary school
reunion this past weekend. Dayum I'm old. It was mad
cool to chill w/ the old elmhurst/ jackson heights/
corana crew. I definitley had more fun than I expected.
On another note, things look like they will be picking
up in the next couple of weeks. RSC Anniv. is
right around the corner. I'm kind of bummed that the
outdoor event will be in NJ this yr. Nothing against
military park in Newark, but it's just not the same. It
will be interesting to see how the turn out will be.
Nonetheless, my ass will be there. 5th Platoon
will be DJ'ing for Crazy Legs as usual. There's
mad shit going on. 5P will also be DJ'ing for the
FATBEATS, NY Anniv. over at the Tribecca Grand
Hotel on the 25th. Oh yeah how can i forget, the Kool
Mix Battle is this coming Friday too. Should be a dope
night - dj/ mc battle - can't go wrong. On top of that
performances by Slick Rick and Kanye. Shit
the Shure Battle also hits NY on the 18th at
BBKings. Its going to be a busy week. Anyway, I got a
few things popping off that I'll be able to reveal in
the next couple of weeks"... DJ Solo (WECI-IN):
"Well, I got bombed with a bunch of hack ware this week.
It wiped out my wordpad, games and a bunch of other
goodies. Contact Lavish Records for the exclusive
P.B.T. single “Baby Momma” (Projekt Chik). P.B.T is
on the come up. So help break his record 1st
. Join
lavishrecords@yahoogroups.com to learn more about
that. Log on to
www.rapattacklives.com to get the skinny on
my feedback on rock the beat vol.1
impacting radio and eardrums nationwide. Nasty Nes
has been real busy, I feel like he knows everything
about me. I am sure it’s all for the good. Props to Ken
at Universal for locking us down with service"...
Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Another super
Tuesday is upon us. Not the type of super Tuesday where
elections are held, but the super Tuesday when like 4 or
5 dope hip hop albums all drop on one day. Good thing
that the record labels spread it out, because we have
been inundated with really dope albums every week this
summer. It's like every good summer movie dropping on
one Friday! And asking me to choose my favorite summer
movie is the hardest thing I could do. But yet I will
face that challenge this friday as I'm forced to select
between "Sleep Over" and "A Cinderella Story" at the box
office. So I can't help but feel bored by the whole
All-Star hoopla. Something about seeing your favorite
player bat once and then hit the pine is pretty
unexciting for me. I'd prefer to have an all-star game
where the losing league takes a 50% pay cut. At least
then you know that they are playing for real. Master
P got cut from the Denver Nuggets. This makes
like his 3rd failed attempt at making the NBA.
Hey, he shouldn't feel bad though. At least he didn't
fail 10 times at making a good album. Oh wait!"...
Meddafore (Philly MixTapes): "I'm working on a new
mixtape this weekend, so GET AT ME NOW if you wanna get
involved. I'm also doing another project early August.
Garcia has a real crazy type joint called "It's
Like That," the lyrics and hook are on point and hard
hitting and the beat is bonkers. You need to be checkin
for that. Seems like more and more people are slowly
catching on to Ness' "My Hood," I don't know what
people are waiting for. As soon as you drop the needle
on the wax you can tell it should be a HUGE HIT! Babs
brings some heat on the B-Side as well. The
Foreign Exchange's "Connected" is still the
most solid album I've heard in years, make sure you mark
your calendars because it'll be in stores next month. I
know Steve Rifkind is a promotional powerhouse
and mastermind, but SRC without Ice Shuler
(now at Atlantic) and now DJ Skee just
seems really weird to me. Shuler and Skee are two of the
most hard working people in this industry. Congrats to
my homie DJ Kristyles on the birth of his baby
daugter. The site has reached well OVER A MILLION HITS,
keep updated on what I got goin on at:
http://www.meddafore.com/"... Double JJ (MixTapes/Trilogy
Records-NY): "What's up people? I know it’s been a
while since I touched base, but don’t think that we
haven’t been busy. Doujah has been in the studio
working hard on his debut album, “Doujah Raze,” so
expect more info about that in the near future. He has

not disappoint. As many of you know, Trilogy Promotions
