What's
upper! I want to thank David, Jerry &
K-Hill of Neblina Records for sponsoring last
weeks Rap Attack Conference Call. Breakin'
out of North Carolina, K-Hill is puttin' Neblina Records
on the Hip-Hop map with his debut single, "Da Instigator
(#2 on this weeks Rap Attack Top 30 Chart)."
Our own, DJ Resident from WKNC produced
one of K-Hill's tracks, "Dreams" which is solid! Props
to our panel for looking out for indy labels & artists
like K-Hill. Expect a mixtape droppin' soon featuring
unreleased tracks from K-Hill mixed by DJ Chela!
Log on to their website at:
www.neblinarecords.com... Ok, I know that the
past couple of weeks, there's been problems on viewing
Black Eyed Peas new video, "The APL Song" online
but now it's all good & you've gots to peep it. Log on
to:
http://www.kidheroes.net/aplsong.htm. This video
gives props to my country the Philippines & Apl
breaks it down lyrically in tagalog & english, "our
ghetto." Please check it out cause this video sticks
close to my heart. Thanks fam... Make sure you peep out
the latest "MTV True Life" episode featuring "I'm A
Muay Thai Fighter!" Las Vegas' own, Ben aka DJ
Ob-One (see photo above) is featured in the
hour long episode with his brother, Kit who are
both Muay Thai Boxing champs. The cool thing is that DJ
Ob-One is a fuill time dj, he cuts it up live in the mix
on Wild 102 & his passion includes diggin' in the
crates every week searchin' for that hard to find vinyl.
Being a martial artist myself, it was hella cool
watching these two kats prep themselves here in the U.S.
to battle in the ring way across the map to
Thailand.
Hope you get a chance to watch it... For all y'all LA
Hip-Hop heads, you can peep out the VISIONARIES
free in store performance on Friday July 30, 2004 at:
THE BASEMENT (14506
Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks).
It's an all ages event, it's free & starts at
7pm.
For more info call (818) 817-3114. I'll see you there...
P.B.T. is a hungry & new promising artist outta
the ATL who's already stirring up a buzz & his 12" vinyl
ain't even dreopped yet! His debut joint "Baby Momma (Projekt
Chik) on Lavish Records will be hittin' our
Rap Attack panel in a couple weeks. The b-side
banger "I Luv Atlanta" may be considered a regional hit
but could possibly be the new anthem for the ATL! For
copies, hit up Tracy Randall online at:
lavishrecordsllc@aol.com... Seattle's own, DJ Dow
Jones from X-104, has been announced as the
newest member to the Cali Untouchables dj crew
the westcoast #1 dj crew! Look for the Westcoast
Takeover to begin early September and look for Dow Jones
new mixtape "Play Your Position Vol. 2" hosted by
Krondon (Xzibit's Strong Arm Steady Gang)
hittin the streets next week. You can hit up Dow Jones
at (206) 355-3440 or online at:
dowjones@2ndchanceproductions.com & you can peep
out the website for Cali Untouchables at:
www.caliuntouchabledjs.com... I had a
chance to chill with Cali's own F.I.L.T.H.E.E.
Immigrants (Chokehold Records) & I have to
say that these kats are gonna take the Spanglish/Hip-Hop
genre to a whole new level of awareness. Their rhymes
can be compared politically to that of what Public
Enemy stood for in their day & age but these guys
also do not take things as serious & brings back the fun
to Hip-Hop music which was the formula to it's success
back in the 80's! The b-side cut, "Liberta!" caught my
attention but please do not sleep on the a-side's "Find
Us!" Show our homeboys lots of love cause the
F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants are about to take over!...
Scion's unyielding resolve to discover and nurture
cutting edge style and talent continues with the
exciting new Scion:NextUp competition, a contest giving
aspiring rappers a chance to show off their rhyming
skills and vie for a chance to win a Scion Marketing
Deal worth $50,000! The lucky wordsmith will have their
music heard via a marketing deal, which will include a
fully produced music video, and the opportunity to
perform their winning song at Scion sponsored events.
Produced in collaboration with INFORM and the
RUN GROUP, the competition follows Scion's organic
vision by allowing the winning emcee to keep his/her own
master tapes, a rarity in these days of manufactured
music artists. By developing this promotion, Scion hopes
to provide opportunity for artists in an environment
where it¹s often difficult to break through. The
availability of homegrown sounds through new music
tools, and the interaction and promotion power of the
internet are creating a new model for the music
industry. "Through Scion:NextUp, this new model will be
explored by providing the artist a means of development
and promotion while giving the public a chance to voice
their opinion. Scion understands that artists need a
forum for expression and exposure," says Brian Bolain,
Scion National Sales Promotions Manager. "We see
Scion:NextUp as a perfect opportunity during our
national rollout to deliver the brand¹s message of
self-expression, while providing artists a platform for
exposure and development that might otherwise be
unavailable to them." Judges for early phases of the
competition include Bryan Leach (TVT Records,
Vice President of Urban A&R), Just Blaze
(super-producer, produced tracks for Jay-Z,
Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous
and others) and Eric Cubiche (LA radio host of
"B-Syde" on 100.3 the Beat). But the final stage
will be in the hands of the public via on-line voting
(all those registered will also be in the running for a
Scion prize pack). With its highly visible ad campaign
"Scion byŠ" (featuring a cross-section of artists from
the realms of photography, urban art, digital animation
and music production) and the completion of its launch
nationwide last month, Scion is quickly becoming one of
the most distinctive and recognized forces in the auto
industry, a brand that not only demands notice for its
unique designs, but as a laboratory of personal
expression that continues to grow in the streets. In
addition to Scion:UpNext, other grass roots-level
promotions include: "On the D.L.," a short film
featuring ?uestlove (of the Roots) and
beat master King Britt (formerly of Digable
Planets), "Sessions" national underground event
program, and the "Free Up Your Mix" project, which seeks
out the best new DJ in the country. For complete contest
rules log on to:

On the San Diego tip, lookout for June Bug Spade &

west coast flav but with a southern bounce feel to it as
well. Adex is an upcoming & phat new label that'll be
specializing on some dope reggae flava's. Log onto their

his manicured lawn and his ability tackle any plumbing
catastrophe. When not advocating for the homeless he can

Jason-D (KHDC-CA): "Thanks to all who gave
me a shout about my move. Didn't know we had so many
comedians promoting Hip-Hop records. I arrived in Idaho
late last night. I haven't seen a potato yet but thanks
to everyone that asked. I have found that everyone here
seems to drive the speed limit exactly. This is really
strange as in Cali we think of the speed limit as a
suggestion. I was slot car racing my 14 foot U-Haul
truck with ease around these law abiding citizens. There
goes the neighborhood! Please update my new address if
you haven't already. On the last email, I incorrectly
listed my city as Boise. It is actually EAGLE, ID.
Wifey says that matters for the mail even thought it
is basically the same place. I am still @ KHDC in the
Bay Area with Kazzeo. I am just pre-recording my
mixes. Thanks!

DJ
Solo (WECI-IN): "What up fam? It’s official,
I am an uncle again, we had the birth of a baby girl
this last week. I put in over time in this week, between
baby mama drama and headaches I worked to overkill. All
I can say to that is, out of 6 tracks we made this
weekend, I have 3 that I keep on bangin’
Tracy
I am
trying to make these as clear as I can so it’s good
quality. Last week I said, my computer was bugged, how
about over 500 pests infecting this thing. I have spent
the last two days deleting crap that is just obvious its
not to be there. Does anyone know about the registry?
Help me out please"... Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH):
"This past weekend reminded me of why I hate summer in
NH: humidity. There's nothing quite like having all of
your windows open, two fans going, no shirt on, and
still be sitting on your couch watching TV and sweating.
It's like living in an amazon rain forest. Oh, and the
best is the fact that the toilet sweats so when you
stumble into the dark bathroom in the middle of the
night to take a piss you get to step in a puddle of
toliet water. That rules too. After peer pressure, I
reluctantly checked out the new Will Smith
vehicle "I,Robot" this weekend. Despite the corny and
tired burnt-out cop with badass lines character that
Will played, the story wasn't half bad. With the films
opening weekend smash success, Will is planning another
attempt at the rap game with a new single called
"Switch" and an accompanying dance. It's just in the
nick of time. I was just starting to wear out "Born To
Reign". And somehow, the "Black Suits (Nod Ya Head)"
dance just wasn't pulling in the ladies on the dance
floor like it once did for me. Lil Romeo is being
sued by a man who claims that he did not receive
compensation for writing that he did on Romeo's last LP
"Gametime." I still can't decide which is worse: suing a
little kid or admitting that you wrote rhymes for Lil
Romeo's "Gametime." Well, this weekend I am off to
beautiful
Montreal, Quebec for an action packed weekend of booze,
broads and weird pink and blue money. Assuming that the
authorities allow me to re-enter the country, I'll be
back reporting my thrilling adventures next week"...
Brian "DJ Wicked" Coulombe (WBRS-MA):
"Just a heads up if anyone is interested, this girl
Nedelle who I've been working with to release a 7"

covers a good chunk of the US. Definitely check her out

DJ Toast (WRPI-NY): "The
following was written by me back on
March
6, 1999 (over 5 years ago!) about Interscope Records:
On a serious note, you may or may not have noticed that
there is NO Interscope product on the chart this week.
None. Here is why. It is meant as no disrespect to
Trigga, but we will not be charting and I will not
be playing any Interscope records for a little while.
How the hell can Eminem ship 1.2 million first
week out and they can't service college radio with the
full length album? Huh? We were playing his "Give a
F*ck" 12" when he was just on Web Entertainment,
before MTV made him the Coolio and
Beck of 1999. Now I am getting phone requests for
album tracks that will never be played on MTV and
commercial radio, but we don't have the full length
album. So to hell with them. Don't send us the album,
and see who plays any other tracks off of it besides
underground radio. I still can't believe it. How are you
going to ship platinum and not afford to service college
radio? Hi, my name, my name is, my name is, my name is
f*cked again!
---
Well guess what, nothing has changed here in 2004. No
Lloyd Banks album & No Jadakiss album. Both
moved over 400,000 units first week, but we can't get
one? Do you think the puppets in commercial radio will
play album tracks that don't have a video? Hell no! If
we are good enough to play the single, why not the
album? Sending the album to commercial radio is the
biggest waste of money ever. Name me one commercial DJ
that will go 3 or 4 tracks deep on the album?
That's OK. That gives me more air time to play the
deserving underground artists. Like El Gant,
J-Zone, Shyste, Wordsworth, Insight
and others.
Speaking of which: I will be at Scribble Jam this
year with my 518 brethren. Let me know if you are
going."
