What's upper! Get ready as www.RapAttackLives.com presents "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004 (Hip-Hop Urban Seminar To Lead & Empower)" this October 13-16th in New York City (the home of Hip-Hop)! This will be our first ever four day event dedicated to College Rap Radio, Internet & now Satellite Hip-Hop Shows & of course Mixtape djs. Stay tuned for more info as we throw down with Live Performances, Showcases, Panel Discussions, Workshops, Photo & Art Exhibits, Product Demos & much, much more TBA. Stay tuned...

Last week we lost another Hip-Hop soldier & friend, Leonard "CHEEKS" Patnett. Cheeks died of heart compilations (he's been struggling with a bad heart for over 20 years) & he had a very successful street marketing company based here in Los Angeles with "Opiumm Entertainment." He worked with many of the major labels which included Arista, Capitol, Interscope, TVT & Elektra to name a few. I've known Cheeks for many years & we both worked together on the street promotions tip with Crazy Pinoy Promotions & I have fond memories of him hangin' out with me over at HITS Magazine back in the days. Last Saturday's funeral was beautiful. Just about everyone showed up to pay their respect & show their love to Cheeks. I was one of the many there to do just that. Peace my brother & R.I.P. always... Atlantic Records has signed acclaimed North Carolina-based Hip-Hop trio Little Brother to a long-term, exclusive worldwide recording contract via a production agreement with ABB Records. Little Brother - MCs Phonte and Big Pooh, DJ/producer 9th Wonder - were signed to ABB in 2002, and their debut album, "THE LISTENING," was released in 2003. Their first album for ABB/Atlantic, and second full-length, is slated for release in the summer of 2005. "Little Brother is the latest ABB artist to step up to the plate in terms of major label interest," says ABB Records President Beni B. "It's good to know that their musical vision, together with ABB's efforts, created a solid first impression. ABB looks forward to working with the great Atlantic team to help Little Brother further develop their incredible talent, grow their musical visions, and impact people's lives with their music." Little Brother's groundbreaking hip-hop approach has been described as existing somewhere between the jazzy, feel-good grooves of A Tribe Called Quest and the yin-yang chemistry of OutKast. Little Brother's debut album, "THE LISTENING," is widely hailed as one of Hip-Hop music's best debut albums of the past five years. Among his other projects, Little Brother's 9th Wonder produced Jay-Z's "Threat" on "THE BLACK ALBUM" and an entire remix of Nas' "GOD'S SON" album, dubbed "GOD'S STEPSON"...

Tha Alkaholiks, one of Hip-Hop’s most influential artists, announced that their upcoming album, titled "Firewater" will be their last. “It’s the right time to go out with a bang,” says, E-Swift. “Knowing it’s our last album has made us much more focused, knowing we have to sum it all up right here, right now and the feeling is great. We owe it to the fans to put everything into one last album and blow it up.” Tha Liks were formed in '92 by E-Swift, Tash & J Ro. Their debut album "21&Over" featured seminal club jams including “Make Room”, “Only When I’m Drunk” & “Likwit”. The follow up album, "Coast II Coast" (1995) featured party singles like “Daaaaaaaam!” and “Next Level.” 1997 brought the "Likwidation" album, with all-star guests like Ol’ Dirty Bastard, LL Cool J, Keith Murray & NAS. The most recent album, 2001’s "X.O. Experience" featured The Neptunes, Rockwilder, Busta Rhymes & Xzibit. "We’ve been doing this music together as a group for a long time. And times are changing, the world is changing, our lives are changing,” says Tash. “We have been party animals for over a decade. Always a good thing to bow out gracefully and exit on top.” The "Firewater" CD is slated for an early 2005 release on the Waxploitation Records / KOCH label. A ‘best of’ CD and music video collection titled "Mixed Drinks" will drop at the end of 2005. 2005 will include their national farewell party tour. “It’s the end of an era in some ways. But it’s important to close one door before they can open another one”, says Waxploitation CEO Jeff Antebi. “E-Swift is going to do a joint E-Swift & Madlib album for 2005 as well as finally produce the debut Likwit Crew album. Tash is preparing the follow up to his "Rap Life" CD and J Ro is putting together his solo album. This is the right move for them creatively and it’s very good news for Hip-Hop because it means more music"...

It seems a lot of people I have been talking to lately feel that they have lost that feeling of excitement about Hip-Hop that they once had. Are people just being pessimistic or has our culture been so diluted that we are all eating fast food and can’t tell the difference? Get at me I want to know your thoughts at my new email address: huffn3000@yahoo.com"... Milena "JazzyBell" Pastore (KCSU-CO): "Buongiorno! School is on and I’m back in full effect! So I feel her health is more important than anything else. This Thursday she will have a MRI done. Other than that, everything is better than good!!!"... Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Alas, it is getting to be that sad time of year when summer draws to a close and we put the grills away, pull out the warm coats, and go back to school or moonshining, whichever you happen to do. I began the summer swan song this past weekend with one more good backyard party. It was the kind of party that brings you back to high school: one stoned friend trying to pole vault over 8 foot high bushes, another randomly showing up with 10 pounds of mussels, and one idiot who thought it would be wise to blow off 150 firecrackers at 3:45am. Of course the local law enforcement didn't think that was too good of an idea when they showed up shortly after...A few interesting hip hop tidbits this week:

1. Tha Alkaholiks announced that their upcoming fifth album would be there last. They want to go out on top. Funny, I thought they were already on top of the cut out bin.
2. Lauryn Hill is prepping his new album "Khulami Phase". I'm sure it will be released as soon as they figure out what the f*ck that title means...
3. Boyz II Men is recording a new record with MC Lyte! Great, now all I need is a time machine back to 1990 when I gave a sh*t about these people.
4. Ma$e is dropping his comeback album today. You'll spend all fall listening to it blare from the stereos of Power Wheels. How come no Blinky Blink guest shots?
5. Former G Unit member Bang 'Em Smurf was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison this week. Great, now all I need is a time machine back to....wait, I never gave a sh*t about him...

Jason-D (KHDC #2-CA): "It's official. I copped my plane tix this week. I will be in NY for the RapAttackLives' "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004" convention 10/13-10/16. Let me know if you'll be around. Promoters hide your Heineken. We comin thru"... Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): "What up. Well another week, school is geting ready to start for some which means only one thing. There will be all these bad ass kids back on the El stop down the street from my house on 46th street. The summer has been action packed alot of travels, trials, tribulations, pay raises, dissappointments, and even some free music. On the bright side there will be a few Flight Brothers releases coming soon but more details in 2005 when just about everything else that gets pushed back 3 years will get released. Euphoric is stronger than ever. You still can't call in but we can do interviews morse code style for all those interested. Until Larry Bowa gets a player to like him and save his job peace"... Nick Nack (KAZI-TX): "I apologize for not reporting my charts last week. I had a serious personal tragedy. My sister was killed in a car accident (www.lindsaymalkiewicz.org) So I have been with friends and family for the past week or so. Hopefully things can begin to get back to normal in my life now. On a lighter note, I just released a scratch tool called "Soundcraftsman Volume One". It has tons of traditional cuts, battle phrases and it's one of the first records to have notes/scales/chords so you can play your turntable like a musical instrument. To learn more about it visit www.crowdcontrolrecords.com"... Meddafore (Mixtape-PA): "Make sure you check out the new interview with me on HipHopGame.com - http://www.hiphopgame.com/index2.php3?page=meddafore.  I pre-warned yall last week, Elite's cooked up another heater with the "Why (Remix)". Jadakiss, Styles P, Common & Nas - produced by Elite. Check it out - http://meddafore.com/Jadakiss-Why(Elite-Remix).mp3.  Bad Boy should think about pushing Elite's remix of New Edition's "Hot2Nite." Alchemist's "Hold You Down" heat rock is out on vinyl now and even has a real ill video to go along with it. Chingy's new joint "Balla Baby" is something that you need to jump on early. You know it's gonna be a huge record as soon as you hear it. It'll bang in clubs, radio, wherever. Don't wait til it's all over the airwaves thirty times a day. Pick up that Ice City "Welcome to the Hood" album, more than just sub-par side-kicks - they're a North Philly crew that runs deeeep with talent. Real gritty, real street, REAL PHILLY!! See you at the RapAttackLives' "H.U.S.T.L.E." Conference, Oct 13-16"...
