Last Wednesday, September 15th marked the 11th year anniversary of DJ Kazzeo's show on KHDC in Salinas, CA. (see photo above). I was very dissappointed to hear that for the first time, no artist bothered to call onto his show like years previous. What happened to the love & support to the dj's who break your ish? C'mon labels, we got your backs, how come you didn't lookout for Kazzeo? How many other pure Hip-Hop radio shows are you ignoring too? Here's some words from DJ Kazzeo about that: "What up people? It's your less than favorite madman DJ Kazzeo from 90.9FM KHDC dropping by to spit some venom. For the past month, I have been sending out weekly reminders within my weekly playlists that are distributed to numerous label reps, record promoters, and artists. The purpose of the reminder was to solicit call in's during my 11 year anniversary show which took place on Sept. 15. Now more than a few of you responded that you'd be calling in and that it would be no problem to do so. Because of that, I really felt the show would be special as it should be. In past years, artists such as Diamond, Tha Alkaholiks, Defari, Dilated Peoples, Onyx, Whoridas, Cormega, A.D.O.R., QNC, Afu Ra, Kardinal Offishal, Tribeca, El Da Sensei, King Shameek, and many others have called in for the annual celebration. Despite the weekly reminders though, not one artist / label rep / promoter called in this year. What the hell is that about? Understand that this was not meant to be an ego stroke in any way. I just feel that call in's on this show serve multiple purposes. They show the audience that the show is known and accepted within the industry and give it a unique and interesting appeal. By scheduling the call in's, I feel as though I am really giving the audience a top notch quality Hip Hop show. So having sent out reminders via email and getting multiple responses from various individuals agreeing to call in, I was completely disappointed and disenchanted with many of you as not one single label rep, promoter, artist, or industry related person called in. In my 11 years at KHDC, this was by far the most ignored anniversary show I have presented. I don't claim to be a major player in this industry. Nor do I expect any sort of material compensation for doing what it is that I love. Playing Underground Hip Hop. This occurance has only helped me understand more so as to why so many of you are getting let go by labels. Many of you lack basic skill as to how to keep a good relationship with dj's and this was just a perfect example of that fact. Since 1991, I have been attending various college radio conventions. From Gavins to CMJ's to Rap Sheets to Urban Networks to New Music Seminar's. I've been to all of them. One thing that is often discussed is how build stronger relationships between college dj's and record labels. One of the things that was always present up until a couple years ago was interaction by both sides on various dj's shows. Whether if it was the reps scheduling artist call in's to shows or the reps themselves calling in, it was always there. Notice how I said was? I take great pride in my show, as I know 90 percent of my fellow college dj's do. So when the anniversary show rolls around each year, I feel it should be a special show, one packed with artists call in's and general appreciation from those within the medium and industry. It's just like a show of ackowledgement and appreciation towards the unpaid heroes of Hip Hop. The dj's who make no money from it yet still break their backs lugging equipment to shows in order to expose the next big stars. But once again, we have an example of the industry ignoring one of the vessels in the heart of Hip Hop, the College DJ. Nice job people"...My girl DJ Roslynn (www.ThirdFloorRadio.com) & I have posted an exclusive RapAttackLives.com Music, Messenger & DJ page on MySpace.com. We want just the true & loyal supporters to be on our page so log onto: www.MySpace.com, fill out the form to join (it's FREE), upload your pictures for everyone to see, etc. & then log on to: http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=

3801619&Mytoken=20040917093942 & click "ADD TO FRIENDS. This is a great way to network with our fellow dj's, so join MySpace.com now!... If you haven't heard yet, my AK, Nathan Sheard from SONY is makin' some moves. "Im not gonna miss you, cause I'll still be around. Kinda'. I recently accepted a position as the South East/Carolinas LPM for Sony Urban Music. The change in titles will limit my markets, but will ultimately help me to take one more step in my path to rule the world. In the coming weeks I will be relocating to Charlotte, NC. So those of you in the Carolinas will have the honor of my presence on a regular basis. I want to thank everyone in the college radio community that have made the last few years the time it has been. I really have enjoyed working with all of you. My email, and for now cell phone, will remain the same so dont think twice on hollering at the kid to shoot the shiet, or tell me how wonderful you think I am (though it does go without saying, "Im JustKidding... Ay Dios Mios") Once I have my contact info for NC, I'll pass it on to everyone." Nathan Sheard...

Have you peeped the new Krayzie Bone track produced by Lil Jon yet "Get Chu Twisted" (Ballr Records)? Don't sleep on this. Here's what our panel is saying bout "Get Chu Twisted": Brett Johnson aka OB1 (WUPX-MI): " Another bangin' beat by little jon minus the usual yeah's and okay's and alright's....this beat is real nice with krayzie spitting mad fast for a sure fire club banger. granted it is the usual getting crazy in the club anthem but it works real nice and isn't the exact same as the standard out right now on the radio. should get high on the charts in comercial and college radio, well deserving and very well put together"... Derrick Ewan aka DJ Furious Styles (WVAU-Wash.DC): "This is a tight record makes. Lil Jon kills it again and Krazy kills it lyrickly. Maybe when Jay-Z's s.Carter Records becomes "official" he can bring his fast rapping skills over a Lil Jon beat cause that ish is tight"... DJ Radd1 (WDBM-MI): " The Krayzie Bone track is HOT!!! I've been blazing it and getting a great response!"... Doug Dilly (KXCI-Tucson): " Bone, Bone, Bone, Bone, Bone!!! Cool track...had my head bobbing from the very begining.I can already hear this track all over radio and bumping out of every car that drives through the hood. Krayzie Bone & Lil' Jon....forget about it. Especially with Lil' Jon being the hottest producer right now. Only way this song could be hotter is if Layzie, Bizzy, Flesh and Wish were on it too. R.I.P Eazy E"... Chris Hodkins aka DJ Atropine (KGNU #2-CO): " The delivery of the vocals is still ultra efficient and impressive. Probably not meshing so well at the front of the indy/underground crate, but club wise, if Bone is still hot, they have the dance floor king at this moment to make it work. Nothing but the same synth stabs from Lil' Jon, but you gotta make it simple for your audience when they're crunked lovely at 1 AM. 2.5 outta 5, but probably after 10 listens or 10 drinks, I'll start to get it more. My new email address effective now is: djatropine@comcast.net"... Also makin' a strong underground buzz is Pittsburg's own, Frank White who's new joint "Steel City " (White Cloud) is getting a lot of dj's attention... Rumors are spreadin' like wildfire about Gang Starr breaking up. Well here's the official word out of Guru's mouth as told to DJ Roslynn (ThirdFloorRadio.com): " GangStarr still exists but we are doing separate projects like always. Right now I have started my own label called 7 Grand with my partner and producer for GURU VERSION 7.0 and Jazzmatazz Vol 4 named Solar. Preemo is doing a compilation album now. Tell Nes I will call him to kick it cuz I got mad love for that dude! PEACE!!!!"...  Yours truly being one of the first dj's nationwide to play GrandMaster Flash & The Furious Five on the radio airwaves wants you to know that this pioneering & one of the most influential Hip-Hop group have become the first rap artists to be nominated for inclusion in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." Flash (Joseph Saddler), Mellie Mel (Melvin Glover), Cowboy (Keith Wiggins), Kid Creole (Nathaniel Glover), Mr. Ness, (Eddie Morris) and Rahiem (Guy Williams), join fellow Rock Hall nominees U2, Randy Newman and the O'Jays on the ballot. Grandmaster Flash developed many groundbreaking turntable techniques, most notably "cutting," the moving back and forth between tracks precisely on the beat. He also pioneered "back-spinning," manually turning records to repeat snatches of sounds; and "phasing," the manipulation of turntable speeds. The Barbados-born, Bronx-bred pioneer got his start behind the ones and twos at Bronx block parties in the late 1970s. In 1977, Flash began to work with Mellie Mel and company, who together became renowned throughout New York City as Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. They signed with the Enjoy label in 1979 for the single "Superrappin'," and a year later landed on Sugar Hill Records for the release of "Freedom," which reached the Top 20 on the R&B charts. Other
classics from the group include "The Message" and "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It"). Results will be announced in December, with the induction to take place in New York next spring... The first part of 2004 has been exciting for Boise, Idaho's Mad Ro, as songs from their "Unreleased Heat" mixtape series have been picked up by deejays around the country! The rowdy Northwest emcees have been raking in new fans at shows throughout the West Coast, and have been in the studio preparing rigorously for their upcoming album "The Foul Stench Of Something Good" (Noc on Wood). In keeping with their steady performance schedule, the guys are in New York for appearances at the famed End Of The Weak open mic night on Sunday, September 19th and the Wonder Twinz Connex List Magazine Release party on Monday, September 20th. You can peep Mad Ro's new single "Nuts In Your Mouth" on Rap Attack's upcoming "Rock The Beat Volume 2" dropping in a few weeks. Here is the info on scheduled shows for the rest of the month:

Not too sure if it's official but The Fugees have reportedly reunited after an eight-year hiatus according to group member Wyclef Jean. The Fugees' 1996 sophomore album "The Score" sold over 17 million copies and won the group a Grammy for Best Album... Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): " Federal government, thanks for nothing. Due to Congress' non-effort to renew the Federal Assault Weapons ban of 1994, I've spent the past 2 days at work tearing my hair out as gun nuts are attacking our company like zombies looking for brains in order to get previously restricted firearms items. The good news is: now you can bust a tec-9 or mack 10 just like your favorite rapper! I can only imagine Dame Dash or some other rap mogul trying to capitalize on this by introducing the "Roc-a-Uzi" or some sh*t like that.

I also have to laugh at the federal government for splashing all of these huge new "Anti-Piracy" emblems on album covers/tray cards. You know, because the FBI warning was so effective in keeping us from dubbing VHS movies in the 1980's and early 90's...

Poor Foxy Brown...she was attacked this weekend at a club when some woman ripped Foxy's $250,000 earring right out of her head! Yikes! What a violent way to steal some loot. I guess I better re-think that quarter mil prince albert...

I almost pissed my pants when I learned that they are making a "Scarface" video game. Good news for me, but not for Moms everywhere. Because kids don't get enough negative instruction from "Grant Theft", so they need a game to teach them to rail mountains of coke and use the "F" word 400 + times in less than 3 hours...

My pathetic New York Giants took to the field again this past weekend. The defense is weaker than an O'Douls and the offense couldn't score in Heidi Fleiss' bedroom. Should be a great season. Point to Ponder for the week: How does a blind man know when he is finished wiping his ass?"... Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): "The city was bussing this week because of the Eagles and T.O., they did not dissappoint by smacking up the Giants ofcourse next week we get to smack up the Vikings in front of all of America. The Phils are rolling but it may be too late, and I'm not quite sure what Penn Sate was doing against BC Funny moment of the week had to be at the South Street Diner with my man Kingston Killah and his brother. We saw a pretty looking jawn leaving out, but as she was leaving out she slipped and fell down the steps and fell on her you know what. She piocked herself up and said how embarrassing and kept walking out. Now me never being one to laugh at people had to notice the guys she were with laughing behind her as she was walking out. So of course our table erupted, the guy seatin people is doubled over and the table behind is rolling. Later that night we saw her at a phone booth and any chance of getting her number was ruined when the Killah's brother asked her was she alright. This week at HI city line I had a World Tennis Group with no translators checkin in. I figured hey ebonics might work and for a couple it actually did. And of course I can into a brief argument about who was better between Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe. So until another Philly fan has a fistfight with an opposing player, peace"... Meddafore (MixTape-PA): " My new mix cd is dropping soon, featuring O.C., El Gant, Pitbull, Splitt, Da Hyytaz, Paul Wall & Grit Boys, Royce da 5'9", Wrekonize, F.T., Tribeca, Angelous, Clipse, Bliss of Fire, Saigon, Garcia, Guru, Anonymous, Reef the Lost Cauze and many many others. Sure to piss off some people, but hey - that's life, eh? Check out the interview with Elite on hiphopgame.com. Labels, artists, managers, yall need to get at him for production NOW. http://www.hiphopgame.com/index2.php3?page=elite . Whoaaa, the Alchemist "1st Infantry" album is insane. A true beat wizard / mad scientist, Al lays down one banger after another on the project. One of the most consistent producers in the game, this album is packed with gritty beats that'll flood the streets and shake the underground. Guest appearances from The LOX, Lloyd Banks, Nas, Mobb Deep, MOP, The Game, T.I., Stat Quo, Dilated Peoples, Devin the Dude and MORE!!!!!!! It should be in stores this Tuesday, September 21st. I'm not sure if I'm spelling his name right, I didn't see it on the cd, but K-Swiz from Nu Planet Entertainment is a super star in the making. The cd had 3 joints on it, all dope, but the standout joint for me is "Shoulder Shruggin." DON'T SLEEP, holla at Gello Jones today: gellojones@hotmail.com Rap Attack Lives "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004" Conference, Oct 13th - 16th - is where you NEED to be at.
