since day one!... This season's "Surreal Life" show
airing on VH-1 is quickly becoming my favorite
show on Sunday nights! Fans of Flava Flav will be
happy to know that he'll be starring in a new reality
show for VH1 with Brigitte Nielson! The untitled
show will feature the duo traveling across the United
States and arriving in Las Vegas, where Flav & Nielsen's
real life fiancee Mattia Disse will try to win
her heart. Nielsen said the new show will start taping
on October 4. Nielsen is presently in the middle of a
divorce. Stay tuned & set your clocks, yeahhhhhh
boyeeeeeee... Anyone catch the season finale' of CBS'
"Amazing Race" filmed in my hometown of the
Philippines?... While Nelly & the St. Lunatics are
keeping St. Louis on the Hip-Hop map, get ready for
another golden arch that's gonna make some noise!
Straight outta St. Louis is The AllStars with
their debut & crunked out joint "Do What Cha Do" (Black/Quick

group! For more info, hit up Alice Prince at:
alicemprince@yahoo.com or at (314) 533-6100... In
between their critically acclaimed sophomore release and
their forthcoming LP, "True & Livin'" (due out Spring of
2005), Hip-Hop duo Zion-I bring fans a 14-track
mixtape "Family Business." A raw Hip-Hop record with an
emphasis on the art of MCing, "Family Business" blends
old school breaks and melodious loops with a taste of
drum ‘n’ bass. As the name implies, "Family Business"
features many extended family members of the Zion-I
crew, including Lyrics Born, Vast Aire,
A-plus, Pep Love, Encore, C Rayz
Walz and Raashan Ahmad of Crown City
Rockers. Production on the cd is handled by Zion-I
track-master, Amp-Live. With tracks like the
electro-groove heavy “Oxygen,” the group touches on the
socio-political nature of our times. On the albums’
single “Act Right,” newcomer Miss Marianna and
Encore provide knowledge to the music industry game from
the emcee’s perspective. And, to add gasoline to the
fire, Bay Area brethren, Lyrics Born provides his silver
tongued flow to the highly anticipated remix of Zion-I’s
classic joint “Silly Puddy.” Coming off the success of
their critically acclaimed debut, "Mind Over Matter,"
Zion-I dropped their sophomore release, "Deep Water
Slang" version 2 in Spring of 2003. Nominated for
Independent Album of the Year by both The Source
Awards and the new Vibe Awards in
2003, "Deep Water Slang" proved to be a powerful melding
of political personal poetics with soulful,
electronic-inflected rhythms. Zion I’s latest offering
will prove to be yet another jewel in the catalogue of
independent hip-hop’s most adventurous and eclectic
group. "Family Business" drops October 5, 2004. The much
anticipated LP "True & Livin’" (Live Up Records)
is due out in Spring 2005. For more info log on to:

week, WZND-FM Z106 Jamz at Illinois State
University received some rather exciting news. Hosted by
DJ’s Z & Suave, the Saturday Night Party,
a Hip-Hop influenced radio program, was nominated as one
of four finalists for the College Broadcasters Inc.
award for Best Weekly Radio Program. The annual CBI
conference, which will be held this year in
Nashville from November 4th-6th, gives out awards for
the best in college television and radio. The submission
had to contend with entries from over 243 different
college and university radio stations across the
country. The Saturday Night Party, which has been a show
on Z106 Jamz specialty show schedule for years
has been hosted by Z & Suave for the past two and a
half. In that time the show has featured interviews with
the likes of the Nappy Roots, Jarvis,
U-God, King Gordy, Jimmy Brinx,
Eyedea & Abilities, Masta Ace, DJ Sharkey,
Planet Asia, Ground Zero Movement, Benny
Cassette, DJ Danger Mouse, Atmosphere
and many others. In addition to the interviews they’ve
held, the show has also given away tickets for shows to
see Ludacris, Chingy, David Banner,
Prince and most recently Dave Chappelle.
On behalf of WZND, and both Z & Suave, thanks would like
to be given to Nasty Nes and all he has done with

people? CMJ is right around the corner and I am
seriously looking forward to the festivities. Yo if
someone can
put me up on what bus/train I need to catch from
LaGuardia to Manhattan please hit me back. I'm thinking
of flying up there instead of waiting for the people
from school to drive up there on Wed night"... Kiz
One (WickedKarma.com): "Whatz the deal? I'm
back after being in a car wreck last week. They rebuilt
me with recycled parts and made me slower, and weeker
than before. I am now the $0.06 cent man. I can bend
rubber with my bare hands. Ok first I want to thank nes
fro the good well wishes, thanks comrad for the shouts
of getting well. I will definitely be in NYC this Oct.
for "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004." CMJ is a wrap this year, it's
all about Rap Attack! Nes, EQ, David
Muhammad and others have been putting in long hours
to make this a reality and I'm looking forward to having
an alternative to CMJ that more acurately reflects us.
Keep checking back to
www.hustle2004.com for updates"... Chela (WXDU-NC):
" Let me officially welcome Nathan Sheard from Sony
Urban to NC!! I know Charlotte is 2.5 hours away, but I
expect many visits to the Triangle, ya heard?"...
Jason Gloss (WOWL-FL): " As many of you know,
my album "A League of Our Own Vol. 2" dropped yesterday
in stores. I'm really proud of this album, as it
showcases array of talent from all over the United
States. I made this as diverse as possible, with the
intentions of appealing to hip-hop fans of all kinds. If
you like to be in the know and can appreciate a good ear
for music, please support our latest album. You can
purchase this at any major retail store, online
hiphopsites or from any one of the provided links below
the charts. Please note, proceeds of the album will be
donated to the the South Florida Hurricane Relief Fund."
(editor's note): This compilation is purely phat & all
that & a must for Hip-Hop lovers. "A League Of Our Own
Vol. 2" features some tight tracks from Dave Ghetto
featuring Breez Evahflowin, Pumpkinhead
& Rok One, also Brother Ali, QN5
All Stars, Styles Of Beyond, Planet Asia,
Storm The Unpredictable, Red Clay &
Tribeca featuring Camp Lo to name a few. I
really enjoyed this compilation. Get your hands on a
copy NOW & show your support!!!... DJ A-Beats (WGMU-Wash.
DC): " Same ol here in DC. The CD (Eastcoast Invasion)
has been invading a lot of markets and websites, make
sure you get your copy while they are in stock. Speaking
of supporting, please support Philaflava’s “A League of
Their Own”. A lot of solid indie music on this release.
Available at all major retailers, but I recommend you
cop it from
www.hiphopsite.com because they have a special treat
for everybody. Its not posted yet, but with the purchase
of “A League of Their Own” you receive a free DJ A-Beats
and DJ JS-1 “The Eastcoast Invasion” Hosted by
Doujah Raze CD. Don’t sleep yall, quality Hip-Hop at
its finest. Good to see my Giants beat the
Skins. It was an ugly game, but we came out on top
and that’s what counts. Peep the new issue of Tablist
Magazine (with Green Lantern on the Cover), there
is a review of “Poorman’s Paradise: Hosted by Dynas”.
For those of you that remember I released that CD a
while back, but its good to get some positive media
coverage"... Jason-D (KHDC #2-CA):
"Anybody else checking for the new Dennis Leary
show "Rescue Me"? Heard he not only stars but writes and
directs that mother. That dude kills me. Heard that
Flava Flav is so popular on "The Surreal Life" that
they've given him a follow up show with Brigitte Nielsen
driving across the country. Kazzeo thinks it's fake but
I think Flav is really gonna hit that. The whole thing
is like a bad car accident. You know it's wrong but you
still have to stop and watch. Technology - Big ups to
all promoters who are sending out MP3 advances. Ever
wonder what happens to those joints you send out? Well,
I convert em to .wav files, radio edit them, burn them
on to cd, and mix em on the show with the cdjs. No
program director, no advertisers, no bullshit. I like
it. I play it. Send MP3s to
djjasond@yahoo.com. Record Shelves - I moved about 3
months ago. I'm getting started on upacking the
collection and looking for new shelves. I've got around
10k records so this is serious. Way past the milkcrate
solution. I think I'm rolling with this option from
Lowe's
http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=27304-1281-CR3012HPL.
Nice thing about these is that they are only 12" deep
and you can stack em. The big pimpin, money is no object
solution, are these jointz from Boltz.
http://www.boltz.com/showitems.asp?deptcode1=502.
Am I missing something? What are you using?"... DJ
Raw-B (KUSF-SF): " What up?! We had a couple
of energetic acts stop by Beatsauce this past Sunday.
First, Bay Area crew Psychokinetics dropped by
and played some of their new material. Their uptemp
sonic party favors keep getting better and better. They
are shopping their new stuff...download it at
http://music.download.com/3607-5-0.html?qt=Psychokinetics&searchType=0&genreList=5&search.x=14&search.y=9
. Next, from Washington D.C., Head-Roc
and DJ Eurok came through. These cats had
good energy and had some interesting things to say about
their hometown. Both DJ and MC ripped a rememberable
freestyle and oh yeah...their albums are nice too! I
highly recommend having them on your show. It's an easy
interview...just open up the mics and they'll take it
from there. Check out Head-Roc's website:
Http://www.Head-Roc.com and if you want to peep
selections from DJ Eurok's debut album...download
them for free here:
http://music.download.com/3607-5-0.html?qt=DJ+Eurok&searchType=0&genreList=5&search.x=9&search.y=7"...
DJ Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "
Is it me or do others find
Flavor Flav and Brigitte Neilsen disgusting and fake?
Talk about two people just trying to cling on to long
faded celebrity status. It's just very sad. Someone
needs to tell Flav to retire the clocks. I mean damn
homie, even Hammer new when to hang up the genie
pants. And doubt Kris Kross is still wearing
their pants backwards. Operation "Chuck won't return my
calls so I am gonna spoon with this 6'1 fat washed up
European actress who dances like an alien to keep my
name in the public eye" in effect boyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
So I copped the Star Wars trilogy dvd yesterday and all
I can say is MONEY WELL SPENT. What can I say? I'm a
Jedi nerd. I want to give props to Marlo
Martin-Jackson for being the ONLY industry type to
reach out and congratulate me on 11 years at KHDC"...
Brett Johnson (WUPX-MI): "Yes y'all once again I
have a new mailing address. My roomate went and got
engaged and is moving in with his wifey to be. The new
adress is as follows & sorry for any inconvenience:
5 Belwood Drive, Holland, MI 49423"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA):
" I will be at CMJ so hope to see everyone there. Our
show is taking on a little bit of a change this time
around. We will be on Tues(early Wed)12am-3am and then
every other week we are doing a SIX hour show from
9pm-3am as follows:
Sep 21- 12-3am
Sep 28- 9pm-3m
OCT 5- 12-3am
Oct 12- 9pm-3am
Oct 19- 12-3am
Oct 26-9pm-3am
So that is the short and the long of it check us out
always at www.wkdu.org.
So until someone can translate what Michael
McDonaldis actually saying in his songs... Edgie
Kokoski (WUNH-NH): " So today my odometer
rolls over one more number as I complete a quarter
century of existance. In retrospect, with my wise ass,
smart mouth, drunk swagger, and cocksure attitude, it's
pretty amazing that I have made it as far as I have.
Nonetheless, I will forge ahead in hopes of completing
another 25 years! Don't get all excited about the
Fugees reunion people. So they played one show
together, big deal. Well, I guess I will make space on
my cd rack for that new Fugees album right next to my
new Tribe Called Quest, N.W.A. and Pete
Rock & CL Smooth albums... If you still think Nelly
is a Hip-Hop artist and not a pop artist, then you
haven't heard country yokel Tim McGraw on his new
album. Then again, I do have to give props to any dude
who bagged a hottie like Faith Hill. How come
rappers always marry heinous girls like Pepa and
Yo Yo? LL Cool J has lashed out at people
who claim that he got such a chiseled body through
plastic surgery. I guess it's just too bad that the
dopest LL Cool J cuts these days are on his body and not
on his album...I'm very excited this week as Doujah
Raze and THE Double JJ will be heading north
to NH to come and rock the spot at my alma mater. I just
got an exclusive peek at the new Doujah Raze single, and
trust me, you will be able to fry an egg on this one. Or
toast a marshmellow. Whatever floats your boat. Thanks
to everyone who hit me up to wish me a happy
birthday!"...
SHOUT OUT TIZIME:
