[[ November 1, 2004  ]]

What's upper!  Aiight fam, tomorrow November 2nd is the big day for you to "VOTE or DIE" aiight? Do the right thing & VOTE... It's been two weeks since "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004" (see photos above) & the memories are still strong. Until we do this again next year, here's Jason-D reppin' Cali's KHDC with his final recap & moments from "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004":

"Hustle 2004 was off the chain. This was easily one of the most relevant conferences I’ve been to. Over the past few years, the conferences I’ve attended have typically had a ton of independent artists in the audience complaining about not getting love on commercial radio and college radio dj’s complaining about not getting service from major labels. This usually ends with the commercial radio and label cats telling the independents and college djs that they aren’t hot enough and it goes nowhere except to more frustration. The Hustle 2004 conference differed in that it gave a more well rounded view of the business and promoted solutions. For example, on one panel there were college radio djs, commercial radio djs, satellite radio djs, club promoters, independent label heads, and even Just-O the mix tape don. This was a really productive panel as it provided a clear understanding of the current state of commercial radio (basically powerless over their playlist’s at the local level) and gave recognition and solutions through other means of promotion like college, clubs, mix tapes, etc. I think it really left the independent artists and college djs with options. I hope more of you come out to support it next year.

Shouts: My roommates (Nasty Nes, Kazzeo, Chill Will, J Tyme, Nick Huff, Krisstyles, & YSL), DJ Splif & Blue Steel, Jessica @ Spectre, Alma @ 7 Heads, Angie & Sherri @ Teflon, Courtney @ Def Jam, Beni B, Kate Wolfson, Kevvy Kev, Davey D, Rick Betemit, Cleavon, Double J, DJ EQ, David Muhammad, Wonder Twinz, DJ Chela, Rebecca Altman, Sean @ Koch, DJ Lady T, Bumrush, Semp Rock, D & Tone Capone @ Jive, DJ Kut, Just-O, El-Gant, Omar, Kut Masta Kurt, A Beats, Edgie, G Brown, Yoshi, Haze, Corporate Ken, Pete Rosenberg, Nathan Sheard, Dru Ha, Dan Shores, Mii Mii, and to anybody I might have forgotten due to all the drink tickets Jessica kept giving me!

 Most overused phrases:

ð What’s good?

ð You Good?

ð What’s Hood?

ð It’s a wrap!

ð That’s a wrap!

Favorite Moments:

ð Grandmaster Caz rocking the mic with Z-Trip and Jazzy Jay on the wheels

ð The entire Bootcamp Clik on stage including an emotional Heltah-Skeltah reunion backstage

ð Jeru, Guru, Lil’ Dap, & Dres performing in one night on the same stage

ð DJ Evil D sticking around after the Guru show to spin for the rap attack and Baruch college dj’s until 5am

ð Jean Grae! I liked her before but I am now officially on her jock

ð The Teflon meet and greet

ð Fat Beats record shopping

ð The homeless and mentally challenged guy that stuck his index finger straight up in the air like John Travolta doing the Staying Alive dance while yelling, “UP YOURSSSSSSSssssssssss!!!!!!!” at Nasty Nes for making fun of him

ð The Wonder Twinz on a Hustle 2004 panel talking about hip-hop being everywhere as demonstrated by their recent trip to my new hometown Boise, ID. (I’m taking over Boise then the world fuckers!!!!)

Least Favorite Moments:

ð Thinking it was cool that the “vote or die” campaign might get the hip-hop crowd to vote Bush out of office only to find out they are charging Republican prices for the gear (ex. $30 per t-shirt)

ð $7+ per beer at the club = Jason D spending mad cake

ð $35 for Night In Paris video… uhhh nevermind

ð All night snoring by Chill “Chainsaw” Will and Chris “Human Beatbox” Westbrooks

ð Anytime Nasty Nes said, “Hey look at this!” which was usually followed by something I didn’t want to see and violated the need to know law

ð Admitting to my roommates that I just bought a house which resulted in me being called Larry for the rest of the trip. “Larry is the white guy, people think he’s funny, a real estate investor that makes a lot of money” – Sir Mix A Lot “My Posse’s On Broadway”

Reasons to get different roommates next year (besides those already mentioned):

ð Nasty Nes having to use the bathroom every time I was in the shower

ð Nick Huff, Chill Will, & J Tyme shopping for bootleg purses on Canal Street and knowing which ones were the “good ones”

ð YSL sending me multiple e-cards with pictures of his bare chest

ð Kazzeo sending his Hustle 2004 recap highlighted in pink

Ha! I hope to see everybody out at Hustle 2005!"...

Ok, I've got good news & I've got bad news. The bad news is, Courtney Adams is leaving Def Jam & the good news is that she'll still be around but doin' her thing over at Koch Records. Here's her side of the story, " Effective next Friday (11/5), I will be leaving Island Def Jam so I'll be handing my college radio promo work over to my partner Michael Israeli. He'll be more than happy to continue to help you with your requests and servicing stuff, you can contact him at michael.israeli@umusic.com or 212.333.8563 - PLEASE continue to send your charts and feedback to him, its sooo important that we keep up the momentum on keeping college radio in the circuit over here. I'll be here all next week tying up loose ends so feel free to keep in touch but reach out to Mike if you need anything, including any pending requests that I haven't yet fulfilled (sorry, its been real crazy) - I'm putting together a list of all the stuff that's been requested for him but be sure to follow up so it doesn't slip through the cracks.

I just want everybody to know that I've really enjoyed getting to know a lot of you and I appreciate everyone's input and support on our records. Working with college radio has been a highlight of my career here (for real) and I'll always be pulling for college radio to get the respect it deserves no matter where I am... By the way, I'm on the move to the Koch Records marketing department, so I won't be too far (especially for all you Alchemist fans), I'll get back at you with my contact info there as soon as I know. Shout out to everybody who's helped me get into this promo stuff, I've learned a lot!!! I'd go into all the shout outs but that's gonna take it way over the top, so shout out to everybody! Thanks for everything ya'll. I'll see ya on the flip side"... Guess who's back, back again? Our long time & loyal Rap Attack reporters will remember from back in the days, promoter & fam4life, Ralph White. After taking close to two years off from the biz, Ralph hit me up & is gettin' his feet wet again promoting the debut joint from artist Oun-P (pronounced ooooon-peeee) with "Mobb & Thug" (Ooh Way Ent.). This kat was discovered from NY's latest "Fight Club" battles & his ish is tight. I hooked up Ralph with our Rap Attack panel's info but if you need to get laced, reach out to Ralph at (917) 686-9522 or online at: monumental1234@yahoo.com. Welcome back... This week the new joint from BR Gunna "Get Dat Dough" is NUMBER ONE MOST ADDED nationwide with our Rap Attack panel. Now be sure to peep, play & support the new Athletic Mic League "Whatchuknow" & Phat Kat "Destiny." If you need to get laced with the vinyl or cd, holla at our new homegirl to the Rap Attack fam, Biba The Diva at (248) 552-9242 or online at: biba@barakrecords.com. Give her a shout, show her love (she's gonna show our panel nuttin' but love) & let her know we sent ya'! Also peep out Barak's website at: www.barakrecords.com... There's a big early buzz on the new Anthony B joint featuring Wyclef & Bone Crusher "Lighter remix" (Pyramid/Universal). The MP3's gettin' into the right hands this & last week & the promo vinyl is about to ship to our panel...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with: Darin Gloe (THHS.com): " Late Night Promotions is at it again with the Biggup and Elijah new release "United We Stand" on B&E Records. This 2 man crew out of Philly have something to say on this release and with the election right around the corner, it is a perfect record to talk about. If you need service on this hit me up or DJ Episode at details@latenightrecordpool.com"... Milena "JazzyBell" Pastore (KCSU-CO): " Hey Yo! Whew! Lemme tell you what…HIGHER GROUND was absolutely amazing! It was by far the best Hip-Hop event that CO has ever seen! DJs Slinkee and Presto-One from Rocksteady made it down to spin for the emcee battles and the b-boy/b-girl battles. Remynd from Style Elements and Lil John from HaviKoro judged the b-boy/b-girl battles…incredible! The Procussions rocked nice n’ proper and the fashion show turned out to be quite a success! It was a great weekend, getting to hang out with heads of all different elements and learning more about what’s going on in the culture. I even got a private spinning lesson from Presto-One – definitely the highlight of my weekend! Shout out to Lindsey from Basement Records and The Wonder Twins for sending some dope promotional goods to put all over the event"... Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): " Congrats to the Red Sox for finally beating the Yankees, I was starting to think it would never happen. Last week out of nowhere I had NAAM BRIGADE come through. They gave us a new joint with EL-NESS and CASSIDY that will surely keep a JACKSON 5 fan(like myself happy). The Eagles are 6-0, and why are all these Pittsburgh Steelers fans telling me we're going to lose on Nov7th. We will put the finishing moves on you just like we did everybody else. Other than that I will be making trips to Penn State and New York in the coming weeks so I'll be in touch. Until the next lame duck coaching staff in college football is found peace"...

RapAttackLives.com presents "Rock The Beat Volume 2" featuring new music from: Mad Ro (Boise, ID), ACC & ethemadassassin (North Carolina), The Beam (New York) and Strange Fruit (Southern Cali). Shipping to our Rap Attack panel this week!...
