ADDING & DELETING RAP ATTACK DJ's:
If
you HAVE NOT been on point with sending your playlists
on time, not sending feedback, frontin' like you're
still doing a rap radio show on your station & you are
not anymore (you know the deal), YOU WILL BE
DROPPED...
Yo,
last week Vallejo's own underground rapper Mac Dre
(see tribute photo below) was killed in Kansas City,
Missouri when a gunman shot into a van he was riding in
early Monday morning. The 34-year-old, (a.k.a. Andre
Hicks), had served prison time in the 1990s after he
and several others were arrested while preparing to rob
a bank. Police had suspected Hicks and several of his
associates were members of a Vallejo-based gang involved
in a series of bank and business robberies. Mac Dre
first hit the music scene in 1989 and went on to record
more than a dozen albums. After Hicks was released from
prison in 1996, his mother says he started a record
label and began writing songs with political themes...
DJ's do not sleep on Jinx Da Juvy's "In My
Lifetime" & the Unusual Suspects " Nothin's Gonna
Change Me" (Teflon Muzik). These two cuts are
guaranteed to heat up the winter... Nervous Records
is making their comeback with upcoming new releases
from EPMD, Redman, Das EFX &
Serious (produced by Havoc). For more info,
hit up online:
mikew@nervousnyc.com & let him know the Rap
Attack sent ya'... Congrats to my pare',
Brian Samson who's now Def Jam's West
Coast Crossover/Urban Promo Rep. You can hit him up
if you're on the west coast at: briansamson1@aol.com...
Big ups to NC's O.G., Jarrell Crump & his artist
Alyze Elyse as BET debuted her latest
video on "Next" last weekend. Trust me, by 2005 the name
Alyze Elyse will be a household name in the Hip-Hop
world... Once again if you didn't know, Courtney
Adams has left Def Jam & she'll still be doin'
her thing now over at Koch Records. Here's her
side of the story, " Effective next Friday (11/5), I
will be leaving Island Def Jam so I'll be handing my
college radio promo work over to my partner Michael
Israeli. He'll be more than happy to continue to
help you with your requests and servicing stuff, you can
contact him at
michael.israeli@umusic.com or 212.333.8563 - PLEASE
continue to send your charts and feedback to him, its
sooo important that we keep up the momentum on keeping
college radio in the circuit over here. I'll be here all
next week tying up loose ends so feel free to keep in
touch but reach out to Mike if you need anything,
including any pending requests that I haven't yet
fulfilled (sorry, its been real crazy) - I'm putting
together a list of all the stuff that's been requested
for him but be sure to follow up so it doesn't slip
through the cracks.
I
just want everybody to know that I've really enjoyed
getting to know a lot of you and I appreciate everyone's
input and support on our records. Working with college
radio has been a highlight of my career here (for real)
and I'll always be pulling for college radio to get the
respect it deserves no matter where I am... By the way,
I'm on the move to the Koch Records marketing
department, so I won't be too far (especially for all
you Alchemist fans), I'll get back at you with my
contact info there as soon as I know. Shout out to
everybody who's helped me get into this promo stuff,
I've learned a lot!!! I'd go into all the shout outs but
that's gonna take it way over the top, so shout out to
everybody! Thanks for everything ya'll. I'll see ya on
the flip side." On the Koch tip, they're droppin' some
heat with the new joints from Wyclef Jean
"Welcome To Haiti Creole 101" (album), Silkk The
Shocker "Based On A True Story" (album) & Cormega
"Special Edition" (album). Hit up our dawg Sean
online to get laced at:
sean@ustyles.com...
Big but early buzz on the new Anthony B joint
featuring Wyclef & Bone Crusher "Lighter
remix" (Pyramid/Universal). Vinyl ships to
our Rap Attack panel this week... Cory Gunz is about to
put his seal on the Universal Records map with "My
Perspective." This kat got some nice flows & production.
Don't sleep on this aiight. For more info, hit up
Corporate Ken over at Motown/Universal online
at:
Kenneth.Darpoh@umusic.com...
Rap
Attack
takes
a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with: DJ EQ
(WBCR-NY): " What's good everyone. First of
all, shout out to everyone I got to kick it w/ at the "H.U.S.T.L.E.
2004" conference. To see everyone building and
making those personal connections was definitely worth
the stress of producing a 3 day conference. David M.
(WSUM) and I can't wait to make it happen again next
year. On another note, I wanted to thank everyone for
supporting the JERU THE DAMAJA record "Rap
Wars" b/w "DON'T GET IT TWISTED" feat
LIL DAP. I will be peaking out this record in the
next 2-3 weeks. Jeru held it down for ya'll at the
H.U.S.T.L.E. Conference so make sure you hold him down
on the charts. Look out for that Jeru the Damaja & LIL
DAP collabo COMING SOON! Moving on, I need you DJ's to
help me break this FRED ONE's record "SEX
AND MORE" feat. SLUG b/w "SOME SEEDS" feat.
VAST AIRE. We went for adds last week, but for some
reason a good amount of the packages didn't get into a
lot of your hands until after the fact. So keep an eye
out for the new FRED ONE's ADD DATE TBA. Speaking of add
dates, the VIRTUOSO record "FARENHEIT 9/11"
feat. SLAINE b/w "MILITARY INTELLIGENCE"
feat. AKROBATIK will officially be going for ADDS ON
TUES., NOV. 11, 2004. Both the A and the B side
are real solid. Initial feedback has been really postive.
I can't stress enough how valuable your feedback really
truly is - so KEEP SENDING THEM! Finally, I have a bunch
of GREAT projects lined up for 2005 and I want to make
sure the right people get laced w/ the product. So if
you're currently not receiving product from me, recently
moved, or feel that you're a major player in your market
- GET AT ME! I can be reached at EQPromotions@cs.com or
at 646.641.7183. Look forward to hearing from you.
PEACE"... Reggie Love (WOWL-FL): " I am
proud to tell everybody that FAU-Owl Radio
presents its inaugural concert event, “OWLFEST 2004”,
going down live at the UC Auditorium, FAU Boca Raton
campus on Friday night November 19th. Doors open at 7pm,
showtime is at 8pm. TVT Recording artist
Pitbull will be performing all of his hits live on
stage, celebrating the release of his new album,
M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue). Tickets are $10 to
FAU and high school students with school ID, $15 to the
general public. To all my FL DJs and DJs in the
Southeast as well that want to come down for this
concert and want a hookup for tickets, holla back at me
and I got you!!!!!!!!!! By this time now, you probably
know that John Kerry has conceded the election to
President George Bush. I really thought Sen.
Kerry had a chance of winning but didn't wait to fight
to get the votes in Ohio counted/ Well, another 4 years
of Bush. I think I might move to Canada. Any Canadian
DJs out there looking for an on-air personality at their
station????? I can do promo for the station as well, let
me know......LOL"... Chela (WXDU-NC): "The
Hip Hop community worked hard to mobilize for this
election and now that Nov.2 has passed my main focus is
that this momentum does not die. I must say I'm suprised
about the election results this year because I know how
hard people worked to register, educate and mobilize new
votors. Its definitely a disappointment, but with either
candidate as president we would have had work to do to
keep them on point. Thanks to everyone who supported the
"Chela 4 President" mixtape, its got a lot of people
talking and a review as well @ rapattacklives.com:
http://www.rapattacklives.com/tapedeck_156.htm.
For more info on "Chela 4 President" visit:
http://www.chelaonline.com/haps.html. I just
sat on a roundtable discussion last night alongside
Spectac and Phonte of Little Brother
for an article on Hip Hop culture & politics to appear
in a local paper. It was a dope conversation and I'll
have the link to the article next week. Shouts to Ali
Shaheed Muhammed for the interview on my show. Look
out for more NC artists dropping heat--Supastition's
EP on Soulspazm Records, AG and Cesar
Comanche on ABB Soul and ABB, Durham's
own Original Sin on Dirty Rat's new
12", The A.C.C. on Rock the Beat Vol. 2,
and oh yeah... 9th Wonder is on the Destiny's
Child album!"... Primetime (WRFT-NY):
" Our 1 YEAR anniversary show was off the hook. Big ups
to ID for having Opio from Souls of
Mischief come through, as well as Jess for
having Haiku D'Etat come through. Other guests
included Philly's own: Reef TheLost Cause,
Prophets of the Ghetto, Verbal Tec, Access
Immortal, M-Ski, Afex-One and
Happ G from KRU Records. We then DJ'ed at the
Cali Comm / Jedi Mind Tricks show
later that night at the Trocadero"... A-Beats (WGMU-Wash.
DC): " What a week. Regarding the election I am very
disappointed with America, especially Latinos and women.
This man not only got 3.5 million more votes the Kerry,
his support from latinos and women went up when compared
to 2000. To me this is mind boggling. I wont go on and
on but I do want to finish the topic with a quote from
John Leguizamo. “Latinos for Bush is like Roaches
for Raid!!!” That is all that needs to be said"...
Wildman Steve (BringTheNoise.com): " 4 more
years of Bushit!!! Big up to all the first time voters
who did the damn thing. Especially, the young voters
18-34. Don't be discouraged by the out come of the
elections. Exercise your voice and vote for the future
to make a change. My man Chuck D did his thing
for Air America reporting from a Barber Shop in Atlanta
and later reporting from Ohio. He's got more flight time
than a flight attendant"...Kazzeo (KHDC-CA):
" As I sit here compiling this weeks playlist and
commentary, I am thoroughly disgusted with this country.
The dark days will continue as, according to CNN, Bush
has been re-elected to office. It makes me sick to think
that we will have to endure another 4 years of this
idiot stuttering and making remarks that make no sense.
And it won't stop there. I foresee gas prices raising
even higher, possibly to more than 4 dollars a gallon.
Let's not forget the backdoor draft that is already
going in Iraq. Those who had only one year left of
service duty when they were deployed to Iraq are not be
allowed to leave even though they have fulfilled their
service requirements. That's real fair right? Also, Bush
has already made it clear that he, along with other
morons within his party, to outlaw abortion. Thanks for
taking us back to the 50's. Look for the seperation of
church and state to become non-existent. That means that
the administration will do everything in it's power to
stall the development of Stem Cell research because they
find it morally wrong and against God's will.
Nevermind that preliminary testing in other countries
has proven that this research has already cured
paralization in mice. As someone who suffers from a
medical condition which likely could be cured by this
research, I find this as the most frustrating issue of
this entire travesty. Luckily, California was smart
enough to pass a proposition which will allocate funding
for the research. Lastly, another result of Bush being
re-elected will be the FCC gaining more power
over the media. Get ready for complete watering down of
radio and TV similar to the bullshit programming you
hear on Clear Channel station. Hurray for us.
These are truly dark times. With Bush in office, America
will soon be looked upon the way the world once looked
upon the regimes of Hussein or Khadafi.
This is not the America I love. That's for sure"...
Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): " I don'tunderstand
how you can vote Bush back into office 4more years and
I'll leave it at that"... Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH):
" It's been a pretty wild 7 days since we last visited.
It started with the Red Sox poised to clinch
their first World Series title in 86 years the
night of my radio show! With no TV in our station, I
suffered painfully through the game with nothing but a
text update every 10 minutes from the AP wire.
When the last record of my show was playing, I had my
jacket on ready to bolt to my car. I finally made it
home in the middle of the 8th inning and saw the Sox end
my years of pain and suffering! Probably the best thing
to come out of the Red Sox world series win was Kevin
Millar appearing on "The Best Damn Sports Show Ever"
and confessing that each Red Sox player took a shot of
whiskey before each of the big games. It gave me hope
that drunks like me might amount to something someday.
The downer of my week came on that very same day as my
company basically donkey punched me by taking back a
promotion that they had promised me weeks earlier. So
I'm still stuck in my dead end position, drearily
dealing with the public for 10 hours a day with only
brief interludes for a hot cup of tea or a prayer to
die.
Halloween was a blast as I attended a small but
libatious party at a friend's house. I dressed as a
"typical" New Hampshire native; I'll have a picture for
you next week. Things were going great until someone
rallied everyone to walk down to the bar to mingle with
other Hallow's Eve revelers. It was great until about
1/2 mile into our walk it started pouring rain like
God himself was telling us to shove it up our ass.
When we finally got to the bar (looking like we had
fallen out of a row boat), we found that not a single
other soul in the bar had dressed up for Halloween. And
the "real" New Hampshire natives didn't seem to
appreciate my costume too much as they gave me dirty
glares that communicated their desire to crack a 2 x 4
across my face.
Election Day! Thank God New Hampshire has a
ballot that you color in rather than chads to punch.
Next to my blacked out ovals on the ballot I wrote a
note that read: "Dear Supreme Court, Please don't
fuck us this time. Thank you."
On a serious note: Every year at WUNH we have a week
long fundraiser to collect money to fuel our juggerknot
of independent radio. Being a non-commercial station
only partially funded by the University, we spend the
second week of November going to our listeners with our
hats in our hands asking for contributions in exchange
for years of top notch entertainment! How can you help?
No, I don't want your ill gotten blood/drug money.
You've soiled your family for generations robbing and
killing for it. But you can help with your mighty war
chest of promotional material! Any promo material that
you can spare to help me generate contributions would be
greatly appreciated. We offer our listeners gift boxes
with CDs, t-shirts, vinyl, stickers, etc. for their
donation, and any label support we can get is
immeausurabley valuable. If there is anything that you
can spare, please mail it to me at the address found
below. Your organization will be mentioned and
repeatedly thanked on air. Thank you in advance!"...
