[[ November 15, 2004  ]]

What's upper!  If you haven't heard by now, original Wu-Tang member Ol' Dirty Bastard passed away at the age of 35 on Saturday night, Nov 13th. News sources say he was in a recording studio in NY & complained of chest pains, collapsed & died. This is so ironic because here's a report on ODB's venture in Colorado a few nights ago from Damian Rodriguez (KGNU-CO): " Hey all. ODB was just here last Wednesday night and I thought I had the pleasure of opening up for him until. He was on way too many drugs. 8 lines, Everclear, shroomz, crack, speed and that’s only the stuff that my promoters saw. He was the most paranoid act ever to take stage, constantly looking sidestage and at the backdoor, leaving stage 10 times, got on the mic & said “Hold up, I gotta piss," decides to do different lyrics to, "Got Your Money" when his regular lyrics are backing him up and repeating himself 50 times of, "We Don't Know Him." ODB won’t be outta jail long if he keeps this shit up. There were tons of pissed off people at the man. I truly think he’s beyond help. Straight up, he’s on the Rick James path." (R.I.P.)...

Whatever happened to our dawg, Hahn Solo & Web Entertainment? We've got the exclusive 411 from Hahn Solo, "Ok, here is the rundown. WEB decided not to release another King Gordy single and with no more records coming and things on some real shakey shit at the lable, they decided that there was no need for a promotions department. So I have moved across town to No Tyze, the label the Fat Killahz are signed to. I am also now handling FK and King Gordys' management. We have a drop date for the album: Tuesday, March 15th 2005… “The Ides of March”… How dope is that? Select-o-Hits will be distributing the record. We will be hitting the road on a couple of small college tours. Please get the word out that we are looking to set up some activities so if there are any major Hip Hop events or conferences coming up on college campuses, we are trying to make an appearance at them. It sucks that these plans couldn’t have started coming together a couple of months ago, but things have been shaken up a bit in everybody’s camp out here. Here's my updated contact info: phone #: 734-945-5156... email: hahnsolo@raptureenterprises.com"... Reppin' his hometown of Canada is DJ & emcee, Owen Chain aka Anonymous Twist (formerly Apollo). He took 2nd place in his first "Toronto's 1991 Metro Mix-Off" DJ Competition & started making beats off his Radio Shack keyboard sampler & writing rhymes! His debut album "Through The Looking Glass" (Soul.On.Rice Records) caught my ear in a quickness. You can tell homeby's been in it for a minute & payin' attention cause his rhymes & production easily puts him out there as one of 2005's next emcee to make it big from the T Dot O! For more info, log onto his website at: http://www.anonymoustwist.com/. Stay tuned for more as you heard about Anonymous Twist first here at the Rap Attiz-zack... Trust me, I just peeped out some of his new material & this kat's about to get his! Meantime, thanks to our panel who supported his "Steel City" single on White Cloud Records. Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with: Chris Hodkins (KGNU-CO): " Life has started to change and open up for the better for me, with opportunities and goals that I can no longer ask to wait. I must reach for that next step and embrace all that I can be musically, and personally. With this in mind, it is with greatest blessings that I wish to pass along my reporting status to the next generation. Each one, teach one, you know.
Musically, my scope and desire to DJ has grown far beyond hip hop, and if I don't embrace my evolution I only hold back you, all of the Rap Attack panel, and mostly myself. DJ'ing hip hop has been the greatest experience of my life, and I will continue to do that, but now the deep feeling to produce and engineer all types of music is overwhelming, a well as returning to school for graduate studies.

My world has grown from fledgling white boy Colorado college student, put on by "The Nasty Man", to actually understanding how and why records and live music are produced both technically and musically, and I cannot stop myself from this pursuit.

You have been a gift both personally and professionally to me, and my love for you is immeasurable. This move actually helps to free time and energy to sincerely keep in touch as these last months have not. Looking realistically at my schedule and interests, this is where I have started to wane, and that is unfair to all parties involved to continue.

For me, DJ'ing will continue both on the radio and in clubs and MP3's of everything are welcome. This is all I need as I've embraced technology, and can do everything via Final Scratch and my laptop. And if you send 'em I will give you feedback and continue to rock. Respect Always"... Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): " For the past couple of months or so, there has been a lot of talk about A Tribe Called Quest re-uniting and being in the studio working on new music. Well a few days ago I had a chance to speak with Ali Shaheed Muhammed and asked whether or not the rumors were true. He told me that, "as of right now, there are no new Tribe songs. They have not been in the studio as reported but they have been doing some shows here and there. They are just feeling out how the crowds respond to them. If the future holds more Tribe songs, then that's what will happen." For more info on Ali Shaheed Muhammed's new album "Shaheedullah and Stereotypes" and A Tribe Called Quest tour dates, log on to www.gardenseekerproductions.com... Mike Nardone (KXLU-CA): For more than 16 years, Mike Nardone has been bringing the underground heat to the airwaves via his show "We Came From Beyond" on 88.9 FM KXLU. Now Mike is proud to announce another dimension to the show. www.wecamefrombeyond.com is up and running. The site features archives of past broadcasts and is steadily developing. Make sure to stop by and visit and give Mike a shout... Chela (WXDU-NC): " Last weekend I was sitting on a few panels & doing a DJ workshop at a Hip Hop/spoken word conference at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham featuring the legendary Last Poets, 9th Wonder, The Butta Team, Cy Young (PD for K97.5), and many others. For more info, check out: http://www.hayti.org/events/special.asp. Just did a Latin First Fridays out here--good look as always to Cheeky Star, Latin Prince & Sam Crespo @ Bumsquaddjz.com, Damu & Bori for keeping me crispy w the reggaeton. Supastition--his record is being worked right now by Double J and Lee--this dude is next up! He's featured on Okayplayer right now, and ?uestlove gave him a strong cosign. DJ Faust & Shortee are his DJs! Please support this dude! I'm doing another B Girl Fest coming up this December w Gloria Velez in Wilmington. For more info, http://www.chelaonline.com/haps.html. "Chela 4 Prez" mix cd is going well--keep the feedback coming--real talk pls! I-95 Turnpike, w myself & DJ Nu, available muy pronto. Yeah Nasty Nes- I like the way yout think! Good look on the Sidekicks, homie!"...  Nick Huff (KOXY-CA): " The World's Gone Mad...As some of you noticed I did not send out charts last week, mostly because I had to take inventory with myself after watching the sham which we call democrazy. Few of the thoughts that went through my head while watching the biased coverage on all the major networks...Have things really changed that much since the civil war? or has racism/slavery just been disguised better? Who is dumber GW or the people who voted for him? What happened to Kerry and Edward saying "We will wait until we count every vote"? How can we have a fair election when the machine's that count the ballots have a 1 in 5 chance of miss-counting the votes? that is 20% of the votes. Why was the conservative right and the mainstream media so quick to say that the youth did not show up to the polls on election night when they themselves said that exit poll data would not be accurate until it was all compiled a couple days later? How can we afford to spend 65 BILLION Dollars in the middle east in the next year but not hire more teachers for public schools with student/teacher ratios of 50/1 and graduation rates of less that 40%? Well I guess that makes army recruitment a lot easier. Just something to think about. Thanks to everyone who helped make the "Slam Bush Mixtape" and the label website (www.hardknockrecords.com) a huge success, we are averaging over 20,000 worldwide hits a day thanks to your support. R.I.P Mac. Dre, legendary Bay Area artist, who along with other Bay pioneers need to be given credit for their groundbreaking independent entrepreneurship/hustle and a lot of the slang and style that many years later is now being copied by mainstream cats and that's Real Talk. Please send Mp3's and Weekly blast to huffn3000@yahoo.com NOT huffn@oxy.edu"... Nesto (WODU-VA): "WHOA.. You can tell we are getting close to the end of the year. There is a lot of music out right now and a lot of request for ADDS. With all the music that is coming out it's easy to over look a record or CD, but please do yourself a favor and check the music. This Potluck CD is aight, the new Declaime CD is aight, and the Team Demolition CD is aight. If you haven't checked them out please do. Oh yeah can't forget about another good CD the Heiruspecs CD. Oh and if you don't know one of our own DJ Aaron Wade and his partner in crime Jay Bee got a new album out. These cats got some dope music. If you haven't heard their stuff hit them up (djaaronwade@wi.rr.com)"... Raw-B (KUSF-CA): " Big thanks to the 4OneFunk DJs (Teeko, Mr. B, and B-Cause) for stopping by Beatsauce this past Sunday to do a tribute to the late Mac Dre. Whether you enjoyed his music or not, Mac Dre along with Too Short and E-40 paved the way for today's Hip-Hop artists to release music independently. They were some of the first artists to make waves throughout the industry with their self released albums. Mac Dre will be greatly missed and it is yet another grim reminder about the epidemic of violence that is destroying many communities across the U.S.  Also the website I work for has just launched a huge re-design. Traffic has picked up in a big way. I highly recommend posting your artist's music on the site...it's an excellent way to promote. Just ask TVT, Sub-Pop, Future Primitive and Def Jux to name a few. Check it out and hit me up if you need help uploading your content: Http://music.download.com"... Toast (WRPI-NY): " For the past 4 years we were able to blame the Bush administration for all the ills we Americans have been experiencing. For the next 4 years we will have to blame the 51% of the voters who care more about keeping gays from getting married and keeping women from having abortions than they do about universal health care. God help us all. On the lighter side, I have added a bunch of pictures to my website, including ones fron Scribble Jam and The Perceptionists show here in Albany. They can be found at http://www.djtoast.com/photos.htm"... DJ Buddhabong (SolOfHipHop.com): " The New SOL of HIPHOP Website is here!!! - www.solofhiphop.com - Thanks to all the supporters of the SOL of HIPHOP Radio show over the past 4 years that we have been broadcasting. In our strive to keep things fresh we have the new site up and running"... FROM CORPORATE KEN @ UNIVERSAL HEAD QUARTERS Question of the Week:
Q: If elected President, what would be the first thing that you would legalize or make illegal?
Answer by "JON?DOE" KCPR
A: If I were elected President, the first thing I would outlaw is George Bush, and Dick Cheney would have to get Shot, that guy gives me the creeps (he's the only person that freaks me out more than David Blaine, street magician... they both made deals with the devil, no joke). Then I would push for government funded nation-wide health-care for employees (working at least 30 hours per week) of any employer grossing less than $1 million per year, for all those making more than $1 mill, I would pass a law to make them supply adequate health
coverage for their employees. I would create a government subsidy program for the arts like Canada has, and I would get us out of Iraq in as dignified a manner as possible. I would also find out who killed Biggie.

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "1. As much as I was dismayed to see Bush re-elected, you can't really blame anyone except the Democrats for being too pussy to differentiate themselves. The only solace I can take is now with a totally Republican controlled Government, they have no one to blame but themselves.

2. The Simpsons Halloween special was the shit, and has restored some hope for me that they may once again return to their glory days when the show was dirty and clever, and not riddled with guest stars and musical numbers.

3. People were lining up last night at Midnight to buy "Halo 2" for X-Box. Where do I get one of these jobs where you can stay up half the night to buy a video game? And further more, how come nobody is playing "Parappa The Rapper" anymore? That shit was tiiighhhtt!"... DJ EFN (Mixtapes-MIami): " Its been a hard month but I want to thank all who have sent me condolences for the passing of my Grandmother. Besides that my computer crashed and I have to thank Meddafore for helping me out on that end! Please make sure you check out www.crazyhood.com and head over to the forum if your a DJ or promoter. We are building up the forum so that all DJs in our market as well as DJs abroad can network and exchange info as well as get music. So I would appreciate if everyone would support by posting music and charts (if your a DJ). Also make sure to vote for me and my camp at this years Southern Entertainment Awards and this years Miami Ent. Awards. You can vote by logging on to www.southernentawards.com and www.305hiphop.com, make sure you vote for everyone in the crazy hood camp; DJ EFN, Heckler, Garcia, Drain, Crazy Hood, Volume 30 and City Life"...
