What's upper! Happy Thanksgiving... Ol' Dirty
Bastard was laid to rest last week & to all the
Wu fans, make sure you cop a copy of "Legend Of The
Wu-Tang-Wu-Tang's Greatest Hits" (BMG).
This 16 track compilation features some of Wu's all time
classics like "C.R.E.A.M.," "Protect Ya Neck," "Wu-Tang
Clan Ain't Nuthin' To F' Wit," Sucker MC's," "Triumph" &
"Diesel f/ Rza, Method Man, U-God,
Raekwon & Ol' Dirty"...
Penalty Recordings/Rykodisc signs
worldwide deal with legendary lyricist extraordinaire,
J-Live. One of Hip-Hop’s finest emcees, J-Live
debuted in 1996 with his first single, "Longevity" b/w "Braggin'
Rights". Since then he has steadily moved forward on
fulfilling his lofty goal of getting stronger every year
while also navigating the many roadblocks the music
industry throws at creative artists. “Back in the days,
it used to be all about Big Daddy Kane, Rakim,
Kool G Rap & KRS-One. When you listened to
Hip-Hop music, the best emcees just seemed to get hotter
every year. Rakim's flow just got tighter from Paid In
Full to Follow The Leader. Basically, that's what I'm
trying to do with my music", explains J-Live. J-Live has
a commitment to emcee excellence while also highlighting
for other young rappers that there is an alternative
path to success in a contemporary rap world dominated by
bling fiction, thug life fantasies, and major label
dominance. “J Live is a great addition to a growing list
of credible artists. He’s making classic records that
should stand the test of time”, says Neil Levine,
President of Penalty Recordings. Commenting on
the deal J Live says, “I'm extremely excited about being
the latest addition to the Penalty/Rykodisc family. This
is a huge step forward in my career. I'm working on my
3rd full length album. I'm confident that with Penalty
Recordings, my music will be able to reach more ears
than ever. I feel like I'm in the right place at the
right time"... The Diggin' In The Crates crew
composed of Showbiz & AG, Big L,
Buckwild, Diamond D, Fat Joe, Lord
Finesse & OC are working on a new LP, "We
Signed A Deal." "The DITC reunion is coming
soon...
Canada's
Anonymous Twist new 12" is on fiya with "Puttin'
In Work" b/w "Stepped On" (BrowBeat Mngt). Last
week I told you this DJ/Emcee may be the next to break
out big from the T DOT O so make sure you show some love
to his latest release. To get laced hit him up online
at:
anonymoustwist@rogers.com or at (647)
287-3072... Chi-town's Bumb J is about to make

Get ready for phat new ish droppin' from D.R. Period
& DV Alias Khryst. Droppin' soon... Get ready

Shag Carpet." If you thought Kelis' "MilkShake"
was da ish, this joint takes it to the next level! Yours
truly, me & Jo Jo Roberto recently finished doin'
a phat new remix to "Orange Shag Carpet" featuring
L.A.'s own, Strange Fruit! Vinyl ships this week
along with the Rap Attack "Rock The Beat
Vol. 2." Show some love cause I guarantee this 12" is
gonna blow up!...
Rap
Attack
takes
a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with: The
Wonder Twinz (Sirius): " Whats Up!!! Yup, The
Brand NEW version of The Wonder TwinZ website is now
here at:
www.wondertwinz.com. You can log on now and
check it out. Please sign the guestbook while you there
too. This new site is dope!!! Every aspect of The Wonder
TwinZ ventures are listed in full detail on the site"...
Damian Rodriguez (KGNU-CO): "
Hey all, what a crazy week. I
thought things were crazy w/ the ODB thing….and he died.
Odd cuz I was one of the last people to get a few pics
of him at our shows, and open up for him. All I can say
(along w/ the other Colorado people who saw him on drugs
@ both shows is that we aren’t surprised. Not to be
meant in a disrespectful way, I do respect what he’s
done musically , and the entertainment & antics he’s
provided us over the years, but crazy people don’t last
that long ya’ll. He was off the planet a long time ago.
Once again, RIP"... David Muhammad (WSUM-WI):
" It's been a minute since I did this right, just
had to get somethings in order after the success and
work put into the HUSTLE 2004 event, much love
for everybody who supported and checked out for me.
Shouts go out to Triple X, ST, and the
family at Hot 105.9 for blowing up my gigs on air
like that.....when your moms tells you she heard you're
dj'ing a party you know your getting exposure. Check for
me in the next edition of "Urban Latino," they
hit me up about Reggaeton and the success of N.O.R.E.'s
"Oye Mi Canto". Im including a Reggaeton
Top 5 from now on since heads think Tego and
Daddy Yankee are the only artists that matter.....it
sucks to be late on a trend doesn't it? Everybody needs
to give the Lil Jon album a serious listen, it is
the most well rounded club record of the year besides
all the hits off of Usher's album. Nas's
"Streets Disciple" and Lil Jon's "Crunk Juice" are
the two most important commercial Hip Hop records of
this year, period! On a final note, Peace To ODB for
returning to the essence....Monday night we did the ODB/Wu
Tang tribute-the phone calls were off the hook. Peep the
playlist below, and no we didn't play "Fantasy"
or "Got Your Money". Much love to G Brown,
we did a Halloween Party in Madison WI together and got
tear gassed, it was fun though. Shoutz to Nasty Nes,
Papa D, Latin Prince, JJ and Lee, Alma, Jessica,
EQ, Corporate Ken, Enzo, Michael Israeli, Sam Crespo,
Dame, Courtney Adams, Angie-Sean-and the heads at
Teflon, Nathan Sheard, Spliff, Justin Boyd, Nick Huff,
DJ G BROWN, Aaron Wade and my brother Infotek!,
Bazarro @ Future Flavaz!, Mike Carlson
and Nick Nice @ MC Audio, Greg DL
and Josh @ Groove, DJ Chela, Kristyles,
DJ Yoshi, Greg Watkins @ Allhiphop,
Fiona Bloom, Ray Tamarra, Mary Nichols,
BIG CED!, and everybody supporting what I'm
doing, much love"... Nesto (WODU-VA):
"Damn, again... The closer we get to the end of the year
the more chart request we are getting. I just think with
the end of the year rush there's some records that are
"unfortunately" going to get pushed to the side in the
madd rush. Some good records may not be getting the love
they deserve. On a different note, I'm sure everyone saw
Dre pretty amped up when he was giving his
acceptance speech for the Vibe awards. Dre got
some weight on him and I don't mean fat, I would not
step to that brother just to try and get some stripes.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but that was DJ Q-bert
cutting it up all night? Oh yeah in case I forget
for next week. Everyone have a safe and happy
Thanksgiving holiday. If you don't observe Thanksgiving,
then enjoy the day off and still be safe"... Wildman
Steve (BringTheNoise.com): "
May O.D.B. rest in peace.
I've allways wondered what a collabo joint with Flava
Flav and O.D.B. would sound like. And maybe even
throw in Keith Murray in the mix that would be
some interesting madness. Dirt Dog was also one of my
favorite member of the Wu. He was unorthodox and a rebel
he did things his way. He will surely be missed"...
DJ A-Beats (WGMU-Wash. DC): " RIP
to ODB. Sad to see he passed away, he will always have a
place in Hip Hop history. Best of wishes to his family
and friends. Lets see how the rookie up in NY plays. I
hope he lives up to the hype, I guess only time will
tell. Make sure you guys peep Doujah’s new single
“New York City” produced by Shuko (Germany).
Trust me you will be hearing this name in the future.
Another great 12” that just came in the mail is Dynas
“Blame Game”. Those of you who have heard my CD
“Poor Man’s Paradise” know this track, but to those that
haven’t peeped it make sure you go to the local record
shop and cop it. 9th Wonder laces a beautiful
beat and Dynas kills it. The B-side has production by DJ
Spinna and Louis Parker, so you know its
heat. Please support good indy music!!!!!"... Jason-D
(KHDC-CA): " Wow man. I can't believe
somebody really hopped on stage and punched Dr Dre while
receiving his legend award at the VIBE awards this week.
Growing up in Cali, I can tell you that Dr Dre has
Godfather status out here. And homie that did it didn't
think he would get rushed? Fucking idiot. He's lucky the
whole joint didn't stomp his ass out. I can't wait to
hear what was on his mind. Sounds like Young Buck
didn't get the message though. Everybody knows that when
u beef in Hip-Hop, the only way to not catch charges is
to crack em in the head with a champagne bottle. More
drama"... Karam (CKRK-Toronto): " If you
wanna step to my motherfuckin rep'
CH-CH-BLOAW! BLOAW! BLOAW! Blown to death. You got shot
cause you're knock knock knock. Who's there? Another
motherfuckin hardrock. Slackin on your mackin 'cause
raw's what you lack. You wanna react? Bring it on back.
Shame on you, when you step through to the Ol' Dirty
Bastard, Brooklyn Zoo!"...
Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): " Another
whirlwind weekend is behind me as I spent the last 3
days soaking up the beautiful women and plentiful booze
of Atlanta. I spent the weekend hanging out in cool
bars, digging for vinyl, and attending the Atlanta
Falcons/TB Bucs game on Sunday (which I had killer seats
too, courtesy of Falcons' DE Patrick Kerney). As usual,
the ATL scorned me economically so now every one on my
Xmas list will be getting a donation in their name to
"The Human Fund" as a gift. I guess I was not really
surprised to hear about the passing of Ol' Dirty
Bastard. Although I find his early work as comical as it
was inventive, I couldn't help but feel like his
self-destructive lifestyle shortened not only his
musical impact but his lifespan. His later works were
scattershot and puzzling, but he still holds a place in
hip hop history and should be recognized for the
contributions that he made. After all, who had the balls
to name his album "N*gga Please"? As if Hip-Hop
didn't have enough violence, the calm of the Vibe awards
was shattered as knuckleheads attacked Dr. Dre right
before he was about to receive a lifetime achievement
award. Rumors had cronies of Suge Knight doing
the swinging. "I'm not the kind of guy who just wants
to start stuff," Knight commented, with a sincerity
and credibility rivaling that of George Dubya.
Speaking of awards shows, did anyone see the clip of
Anna Nicole Smith at the American Music Awards
introducing Kanye West DRUNK AS SHIT? If they
need a venue for next year's AMA ceremony, they can use
my house. Drunk whores are always welcome there. The
most ridiculous lines in Hip-Hop this month belongs to
50 Cent, who on Eminem's "Spend Some Time"
surmises:
"I complimented her, I said 'you have very nice lips'
with my imagination, I can see her suckin my d*ck"
Oh, but Curtis isn't done. He later expounds:
"She got to talkin, talkin like an opportunist do
Why talk when sucking my dick is the real career move?"
Move over "Vagina Monologues", this is the "D*ck
Sucking Soliliquies"...
Nate Abney
(WKDU-PA): "
Let me start off saying R.I.P. ODB. Where were you when
you first heard Brooklyn Zoo? I was in a car with my
grandmother in North Philly when I heard it on Power
99(when they used to play good music) and Isaid wow
Wu-Tang is really here to stay. I guess we all know the
history after that. R.I.P ODB A quick day trip to New
York was fun but difficult to listen to other games when
your team isn't playing. Speaking of which all you the
champion is coming out of the AFC fans hopefully
saw what McNASTY and T.O. did to the Boys.
This just in Penn State won a game!!!!
AI looking like AI. Last but not least when are
Hip-Hoppers going to learn how to act at these award
shows. You have togrow up and be an adult at some point.
These middle school beefs ecsalate into things that
really aren't neccessary"... JayForce (WRFG-Atlanta): "
We got the word about Ol Dirty Bastard on the way to the
radio station. We managed to put together a last minute
tribute with some of the joints from inside the station,
but we didn't have everything we needed clean from his
first album. RIP OL Dirty Bastard"...
