Kiz-One
(WickedKarma.com):
"I came across a thing that I would like to put
everybody up on and I really believe that it is cutting
edge with todays DJ's It's called Podcasting.
It's a 2 part article the first part I wrote about the
advantages and software and i'll try to crank out part 2
in a week. Here is the first part of my article:
Whatz the deal! I want to share a little info on some
projects that I'm currently working on. Last year my
crew and I "The Soul Providers" were putting out a free
monthly mix CD called "THE AGENDA" on WSOL radio. This
was a take off of a fake radio station, which played
what we wanted to play. No PM or music director, full
unedited versions, unedited call-ins, that was made by
us for us! The CD was a success, but we couldn't keep up
with the demand and the numbers of people that wanted
the cd. So I sat down and thought of a better way to do
this but to be on the cutting edge of technology. I knew
that you could put your show online but heads would be
forced to sit at the computer, download, and then listen
to them at their computer. This is ok if you're at work,
school or working on some projects or "IM'n"at the
computer. But, wonder if you want to take what you down
loaded with you? Yell you can burn a CD of the show, but
then you would have tons of discs just laying around of
past shows taking up space. So I though it has to be a
better way to make it more available to everyone all
over the world with out forcing heads to be locked at
the computer. So what better way then to incorporate the
use of an mp3 device (I pod, I river, mp3 players etc…)
which would allow you to down load a show and listen at
your own convince. No more being locked to your
computer. You can down load the show; listen to it on
your way to work, on the bus stop, what ever. The idea
came from doing a podcast.
You might wonder what a podcast is or you might know.
But the whole idea behind a podcast is to allow you to
download a podcast to your I Pod, I Tunes or what ever
program that you use to get files onto your mp3 player.
This can be done with out having to down load it to your
computer and then having to load it to your mp3 player.
It also allows you to do all this in a small amount of
time and it will load automatically to your I Pod as if
you were down loading songs.
You might say what is so special about this but here is
the beauty of podcasting. Podcasting is special in that
it allows you to publish (podcast) radio shows that
interested listeners can subscribe to. Before podcasting
you could of course record a radio show and put it on
your website, but now people can automatically receive
new shows, without having to go to a specific site and
download it from there. So you could literary produce a
show in a week and have anywhere from 1 to infinity
listeners that subscribe to your show(feed) this cut's
out the whole process of people who missed the show
because they weren't able to sit down at a computer and
listen live. But it all so makes the possibility that
you can supplement your weekly shows with a subscriber
only special show that only people thatsubscribe to your
feed(show) can hear.
Ok now the tech side of the process. What do you need to
listen and what do you need to make a podcast. Ok the
first thing which is the easiest: How to listen to a
podcast. To listen to a pod cast you need to download a
program that will allow you to download a raw podcast
and listen to it on your I Pod. There are a ton of
different podcasting software here is a list:
http://ipoddernet.sourceforge.net
http://www.nimiq.nl
http://www.dorada.co.uk
http://jaeger.blogmatrix.com
http://brandon.fuller.name/archive...
http://www.dopplerradio.net
http://rubyforge.org/projects/podcatcher/
http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddemon/index.asp (this
one will allow you
to use any type of mp3 player)
After you download the software you will be able to
subscribe to different feeds (shows) that are out there
on the net. I have to be honest, a lot of the
feeds(shows) are a little techie(geek) but there are a
ton of feeds(shows) that are not, such as sports,
cooking, etc.., just plain crazy joints out there. To
find shows you can go to:
http://www.podcast.net
, here you can find cast by genres like intertainment,
music, movie reviews etc.
New week I'll show you how you can get off the couch and
make your own shows. But in the mean time feel free to
ht up my page and test out the software that you down
loaded and subscribe to my pod cast at:
http://dabeatdown.blogspot.com/...
Double JJ (Mixtape-NY): " What’s up fam? We have
some information of interest that we want to get to you
before the weekend. A number of you have been requesting
clean mp3s in addition to the vinyl we service, so we
are going to start posting our projects online at
http://www.foundation-media.com/current.html.
You navigate to this page from the
Foundation home page by clicking on “Radio
Promotions,” and then clicking on the “Current Projects”
tab. Feel free download these mp3s to burn, enter into
your station’s computer system, or pass to other radio
jocks. Interviews: The Faculty, Solitair
and Saukrates are all available for interviews.
All three of these acts have some interesting knowledge
to drop on your listeners. Get at Lee or me to
set something up. Also, Shuko the producer of
Doujah’s “New
York City,”
Outerspace’s “Top Shelf” f/ Sadat X,
Soulstice’s “Always” and many other joints
is going to be in the U.S. for a few weeks. If anybody
is interested in doing a phoner with him, get at me to
set it up. Add a little international flavor to your
show!!!"...
Nick Huff
(KOXY-CA): "
50
is at
it again going after Ja, Jada, Fat Joe,
Nas, Shyne, etc with track "Piggy Bank."
Let's hope this feud stays on wax and doesn't spill into
the streets cause Hip Hop has already lost too many
soldiers. If you haven't done so make sure you check out
Pete Rock's "The Surviving Elements"
matter of fact check out any of Pete Rock's albums cause
he is one of the most slept on producers of all time. On
another note. You too can be a GM in the NBA
these day cause these are some of the worst deals
I've ever seen. What were the Kings and
Hornets thinking? Celtics bringing back
Twany is like getting back together with an ex you
know you are better off without but not sure you can do
any better"...
Aaron
Wade
(WMSE-WI):
" Our current heaviest
playlist includes Supernatural, Big Pooh,
Thes One, Kice, Pitch Black,
Beyond, Dynas & Opio. How incredible
is the b-side of Big Pooh - "Scars"?! That song is just
ridiculous. I can't wait for that lp... Our weekly
playlist is available at
http://www.latenighthypeshow.com/html/weekly.html
Throughout March, we will be celebrating our
7th year on the air at WMSE - the longest running show
dedicated STRICTLY to rap in the history of
Milwaukee radio. To get things poppin off for March next
week, we will be talking to Pitch Black and
welcoming
Chicago's
Earatik Statik and Matlock as in-studio
guests. And that's what's up in the beer city!"...
David Muhammad
(WSUM-WI): "Gonna
keep it short and sweet this week, much love to all the
promoters for the service!!! All your MP3's, Vinyl, and
CD's are making an impact and it's much appreciated. I
hope everybody is watching the EGO Trip Specials this
week on VH1, straight Hi-larity! Finally heard
"Piggybank" by 50 Cent, which has to be the most
hyped diss record since "Ether", too bad it's a dud in
my opinion. Let's see if "The Massacre" is any
better. NE-wayz, X-tra Militant Black History Month

Jason-D
(KHDC-CA):
"First off, big ups to everyone who gave me a shout on
my bday this Monday. Thanks for the love. In the spirit
of birthdays I'll do something selfish this week and
talk about myself. There is so much turnover in the
music biz now that it's hard to keep track of anyone.
Here's my story. The really, really short version. I
turned 35 on Monday. I started on college radio in 1988.
It's 2005 and I'm still doing it. For those of you kids
good at math, that's about 17 years and no I'm not still
in college. Everyone gots old man jokes now. Anyway,
it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment I was hooked on
this hip hop shit but I do know I heard Herbie
Hancock's "Rock It" in the early '80s and
then I saw Mantronix perform in SF in 1986 and my
life was changed. I learned the basics of djing from The
Princess of Charm now known as DJ Pam from
The Coup. In 1988, I moved to Santa Cruz, Cali
and got a show on 88.1 KZSC. Not long after,
Kut Masta Kurt became my cohost and really helped
turn the show into an underground hip hop show. I met
Kazzeo a few years after that and he too became a
regular on the show. We've been djing together since.
There was a point from about 1990-1995 where between
about three radio stations we had about 40 hours of hip
hop per week. We even promoted each other's shows on
different stations. Seriously, we were djs cross
promoting each other's shows on competing stations. It
really used to be about the music for a lot of people.
Shouts to Erica "DJ Eko" Olsen who
is now back at KZSC. Fast forward to 2005 and I'm still
on the air in that same market. I recently moved out of
state but thanks to technology, I simply pre-produce a
mix on cd each week which Kazzeo then blesses with
common sense and respectful commentary (yeah right!). I
send a cd each week but Kazzeo's more likely to talk
over my instrumentals and ask the audience why you would
name your group "The Bone Brothers" if you weren't
making adult movies. We have fun with it but it's still
about the music. Thanks to all of you who send me new
music every week. I look forward to many more years
working with all of you. To see some old school flicks
from the early 90's Gavin cnventions or to
check out a more detailed bio, be sure to check out
