Attack Conference Call last week. Their first
new single in 2005, "Get Ya Paper" looks & sounds like a
HIT record for this group based outta Detroit. Here's
what some of our Rap Attack dj's are saying:
Garbs (WRUW-Cleveland) says, "Dude this shit
is crazy. This is a hot record. I just got the vinyl.
Wow, this is definitely official. I was pumped when the
needle dropped!!!"... Darin Gloe (THHS.COM)
says, "This has a more hyped
up feel that the last couple joints from these guys.
Sounds sort of like some Young Gunz type ish,
lyrically they cool.. I can see it doing a lil sumin
sumin!"... DJ EarthQuake (Live365.com)
says, "This is real nice. It has a great feel to it and
the beat is solid and a good backbone to the cut. They
got skills, and a good follow up to the Fat-tastic 4
joint" and Brian Z (WZND-Chicago) says, "The
sinlge has a great beat the guys flow back and forth is
real smooth. Some of the MC's in FK are better then
others, but when the hook comes, they put it out the
right way. Give Solo a shout on this one, I'll
add it this week!" If you still need to get laced with

(KPFA-Oakland)
: Remembering Notorious BIG-His Last radio Interview:
"March 9th sadly marks the 8th anniversary of the
death of one of the greatest to ever bless the mic, the
Notorious BIG. I remember as clear as day when I got the
phone call about Biggie being gunned down at the Auto
Museum in LA as he and P-Diddy (Puffy) were on their way
to KKBT the Beat to do an interview. I was told dozens
of people were there and actually saw what went down but
no one 'knew' anything when questioned.
I also recalled being told about the panic that
enveloped all the East Coast artists who were in LA that
night as they frantically tried to find a way to safely
get out and head on back home. A lot of west coast
artists were fearful about going back east.
I also remember what would be Notorious BIG's last radio
interview. It took place 4 days before he was killed on
KMEL in SF with Sway who is now with MTV and his crew
called The Breakfast Club. I had seen Biggie dozens of
times at the station but this time he seemed relaxed,
thoughtful and somewhat playful.
He spoke about the beef he had with 2Pac and how it was
sad yet amazing that two guys with a disagreement could
wage a coastal beef. He spoke about his love for God and
how you have to put him first. He also spoke about his
love for his kids. He also talked about the inner
workings of Bad Boy. Biggie explained that he had taken
over the role of managing Puffy. That was an interesting
facet considering that Puff was the Ceo of Bad Boy.
Biggie noted how close everyone in Bad Boy had become.
Throughout the interview Biggie joked around with Sway
and the crew. He told us that he was looking forward to
releasing his album 'Life After Death' and was confident
that once folks in Cali heard the song 'Going Back to
Cali' that it would once and for all dead what many
called the Great East-West Coast Beef which apparently
seemed to be in full swing at that time.
One thing that stood out in this interview was Biggie's
response to a question posed by co-host Big daddy Victor
Zaragoza who asked him whether or not he had anything to
do with 2Pac being killed.Biggie seemed to be coy when
answering the question and left a lot of people angry
including folks who are down with Pac when he answered
by saying 'I'm not that powerful yet'. In listening to
the interview today it sounds like he's saying I'm not
that powerful-yo', but because of the east-west coast
tensions, folks in Cali listening to the show took his
remarks another way.
Biggie and the Bad Boy family were spending a lot of
time in LA and to them all seemed chill especially since
Suge Knight of Death Row had been incarcerated. I
remember after Biggie conducted his interview and was
set to leave the station, one of our deejays and a good
friend of his Franzen asked Biggie how everything was
going.Biggie noted that it was all good and that he was
having a good time in LA. Biggie noted that a lot of
people were showing him love. Unbeknown to us at the
time Biggie had let go his security guards who were
former Navy Seals that worked for a company called
Seal-Mar. The word on the streets was he replaced the
guards because they were costing him too much money and
employed the services of one of the local gangs in the
area.
Also unbeknown to us was that while Biggie was getting
lots of love from folks when he was around, there were
serious grumblings in the streets of LA all the way up
to the Bay.
Cali
was 2Pac country and 6 months after his death a lot of
people were still mourning and were suspicious of Biggie
and his Bad Boy click.
The streets of LA were really grumbling about Biggie
showing up around town like it was all good when in
reality it wasn't. Franzen had been hearing the rumors
and pulled Biggie to the side before he left and told
him point blank to be careful in LA, things aren't
always like they seem. Biggie was jovial and told him
not to worry that everything would be alright. As he
stepped into the elevator little did we know it would be
the last time we would see him alive.
Below is a link to that last radio interview, some of
the excerpts you will recognize as sound bites used by
the Eminem produced song 'Runnin' which features Biggie
and 2Pac. Notorious BIG-The Last Radio Interview
http://easylink.playstream.com/daveydinterviews/biggieinterviewlastone.wax
As you listen to this interview we should keep in mind
the craziness that is going on with 50 and Game and
other rappers who have been drawn into the fray. It's
bad enough these artists who are all grown ass men have
beef and apparently haven't learned from the lessons of
the past. It's even sadder that fans and IRRESPONSIBLE
RADIO stations are hyping things up.
Lastly we should keep in mind that 8 years after his
death we still have not found out who did it. Nor have
we found the killer of 2Pac.It's time for a serious
change in direction"...

Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
" The absolute funniest thing I've seen on tv since the
debut of the Chapelle show has to be the E!
re-enactment of the Michael Jackson trial. That
is priceless material. So thanks to my man Jason D,
I heard an excerpt of Fat Joe on Kay Slay's
radio show talking about 50. Pretty good stuff. A
lot of the stuff he said I agreed with but there were a
couple things that I was like "huh"? Fat Joe says he's
not a "battle rapper". Isn't the true essence of Hip Hop
to battle? I just think if he was still rollin' with
D.I.T.C. he'd have that fire. Also, he said that 50
can't have a record release party like the rest of
industry and has to have it at his house because he's
"cb4". In other words, he's a fake. I thought that was
funny. Speaking of 50, I had a chance to see the
MTV special on him that showed his record
release / house party. I'm sorry but there is no way in
hell that I'm allowing that dude Young Buck in my
crib. 50 also has a "house coordinator" whatever that
means. Basically I think it means he sleeps with her.
She was pretty cute so it wouldn't surprise me. Now we
come to Olivia. Sure she sounds sexy on the
"Candy Shop" record. She has that "976 Number" voice.
Not that I would know or anything but I coould see her
talking dirty to me on the phone. Anyway, everyone is
saying how she's hot and all. I think she real wack
looking. Yeah her body is tight but the face needs help.
In a hurry. She's the perfect example of a "Butta Face".
Everything is good but her face. If you haven't visited
the Rap Attack message board yet, please do. The
link is on the main page at

Jason-D
(KHDC
#2-CA): " Hugs for everybody courtesy of Fiddy
Cent this week. Rodney King would be so
happy. We also recognize another anniversary of Big's
passing. I think my favorite joint has always been
"Unbelievable". This would be an endless topic for the
rap attack message boards. So, flipping the script
completely, I was helping my kid with his spelling
homework the other night and had a revelation about some
very popular rappers. Each week my son gets a list of
spelling words and we are supposed to pre-test him
before he gets to study them. This usually makes for
some interesting spelling a la "Hukt Awn Fawniks Werked
Fer Me". Anyway... he had a lot of words with "er",
"or", and "ur"
sounds to them and basically the pre-test was a
miserable failure. As I'm going over the results with
him I think to myself, "Shit. This looks like the lyrics
to a Chingy song." I'll let you connect the dots
to a 4th grade spelling test and "Right Thurr"...
Nick
Nack
(Mixtape/KAZI-TX):
" I think this is the longest I have gone without an
email update! It’s been well over 2 months. A lot of new
things have been happening, so let’s get right to it…We
will have a showcase at SXSW 2005 on Thursday
March 17th at Zero Degrees. See below for
more details on that. Please come out and show your
support! If you are going to be at either SXSW or WMC
this year, then please let me know. I will be
attending both. While on the subject of live shows, I
will be scoring another film. This time it will be the
famous silent movie Metropolis. The first screenings
will be at Alamo Drafthouse on May 27th. I
know it’s a ways out, but mark your calendars! In other
live show news, BLAZE will be playing with Afrofreque on
May 13th at Flamingo Cantina. Visit the
“Shows” section at
www.crowdcontrolrecords.com for all
the details. The real reason for lack of communication
over the past months has been b/c I have been in the
studio crafting up some new music. The next project
slated to drop will be a full length, all turntable
produced album by Enfoe and myself (NickNack). We are
planning on dropping a couple of vinyl tools to
accompany this CD release. Shortly thereafter will be a
new NickNack 12inch and then Soundcraftsman v2. This
summer/fall will be chalked full of Crowd Control
releases, so keep your eyes and ears peeled folks! Real
quick, there are some cool reviews/interviews/articles
about us floating around. Check out the new issue of
Undevco at
http://www.undevco.com.
Soundcraftsman was recently reviewed in the
international Spanish magazine Serie B,

Edgie
Kokowski
(WUNH-NH):
" In New England there is an old saying: “March comes
in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb.” Most
years this may be true, but in 2005 March has come in
like a cocksucker. It was bad enough to get 6 more
inches of snow last Tuesday. Then that deceitful bastard
Old Man Winter let us warm up into the 40s this past
weekend. But he sure donkey-punched us today with rain,
freezing-rain, and wind-driven snow that should pile up
6 more inches by morning. There’s nothing quite like
coming out to the parking lot after 9 hours of work to
find a glacier where your car used to be. And I really
enjoy standing out in 20 degree weather trying to carve
out my car with a flimsy Wal-Mart fucking ice scraper
while the wind blows ice pellets into my face at 50 mph.
Not that this happened to me today or anything. I have
recently discovered “MTV Jams” on cable, and I have to
say, it’s the best thing I’ve found since Yo! MTV Raps
disappeared. Sure you have to put up with nauseating
repetition of today’s hot club joints, but its
commercial free and all videos 24-7. They actually play
a lot of old joints too. This past week I saw videos by
Black Moon, MC Eiht, Slick Rick and
others. I even saw Domino’s “Sweet Potato Pie”,
which made my goddamn day. I forgot to mention last week
that I had a chance to sit down and interview Rah
Digga and she is by far one of the best guests that
I have ever had on my program. After she got over her
warranted wariness that I was some country cracker, we
had a great convo about Flipmode, Outsidaz,
Aftermath, Busta and her work in acting.
She told me that she is knocking out a new EP with
Young Zee that sounds really hot. Thanks to everyone
who responded with chuckles and LOLs to my Snoop Dogg
translation. Let me know if you have a suggestion or
request for the next installment. And lastly, thank
Christ that “Deadwood” is back on HBO
now. I have been feigning for my weekly fix of sex,
swearing and violence, and now I can breathe easy again.
Any other fans out there?"...
