What's
upper? I had one of the best weekends ever. Wal-Mart
is my official new spot to shop at plus last
Saturday night I went to the historic Hollywood Bowl
to peep out Alicia Keyes in concert. This is
one of those must see concerts cause not only can Alicia
blow, but her entire performance is like watching a
Broadway musical. She sang all her hits, she had a
couple of pianos that moved all across the stage & the
show ended with a huge fireworks show. Ohhhh, & I also
got to see the Isley Brothers as her opening act.
Wow! Serious legends in the music world. I haven't seen
the Isleys live since the 70's & they still rocked it!
Thanks to J Records for the tickets & for the
best seat in the house. On the J Records tip, big ups
for sponsoring last week's RAP ATTACK Conference
Call. Our guest was one of Hip-Hop's pioneer
freestylist & Grammy award winner for writing "Jesus
Walks,", Rhymefest. His new album "Blue
Collar Poppin'" will feature Kanye West, ODB,
Big Boi & Mario. His latest joint "These
Days" are getting dope reviews from our own RAP
ATTACK panel. Here's what our dj's are sayin' bout
"These Days": Phil Bendsen
(WRKC-PA): " Hey Nes.
This track is some good sh!t. Rhymefest is definitely a
clever emcee and the beat is pretty dope too. I'll be
looking forward to the vinyl to spin. Thanx"... Brett
Johnson aka OB1 (WUPX-MI): " This is a feel good hip hop
track, makes you smile and even laugh a bit. Lyrical
prowness isn't the focus here and it shouldn't be judged
as such. This is great for what it is. I know rhymefest
got skills so hearing this track shows more of his
diversity which is under appreciated these days.
Although i love the track it isn't his best stuff. It
will do well but i dont see it topping the charts. Bonus
points for doing something different but i like to hear
him rip like i know he can"... Jason-D (KHDC #2-CA): "
Rhymefest - YES! Shit is hot. Instant rotation on the
show. Hot boom bop joint, hot lyrics. I'm feelin this.
Need more of this"... Darin Gloe (TheHipHopShow.com): "
This is pretty hot coming from a major label, I’ll be
playing the hell out of this"... : Precise (KVRI-Canada):
" I'm feelin this... nice beat, good rhymes... sounds
different from most of the stuff out right now... thx
for sending it"... DJ EarthQuake (Live365.com): " I was
really feeling this track from the first listen. This
cat has some mad talent and really shines on this. It’s
great to hear a freestyle mc rocking a track because it
must be hard because you don’t see it as much"... J-Tyme
(X-104-Seattle): " I actually got this record last week
and immidaitely started spinning it. I can't front on
this. Lyrically, he is nice and with Mark Ronson on the
production, it makes it really catchy. I'm feelin it. I
suggest people jump on this record now"... Max Brown (WMHB-ME):
" I just peeped that new Rhymefest track, and it surely
is hot! I love the beat, and Rhymefest always delivers a
hot flow. Very good stuff!"... Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly):
" This is quality the lost art of freestyle is found. It
always refreshing to hear true elements in the culture
represented, the production is not bad either.Solid
joint"... Papa-D (WRBB-Boston): " this is real dope!!! i
need vinyl!!!!"... DJ Spider (TheBassMent.com): " This
shit is DOPE!!! Mark Ronson killed the beat and Fest
killed the verses, i love it, i'll be playing on the
show tonight and putting it in rotation peace!"... DJ
Addition (Mixtape-NH): " I've had this for a minute and
picked on last weeks picks, its a hit!!"...

DJ
Stereotype (WHUS-CT): " It has been to good
week in CT. First off, thank you to Jess at
Spectre for getting me those free tickets. I caught
C-Rays Walz, Vast-Aire, J-Live and
GZA down in New Haven
on Thursday. The show was insane. C-Rays did an
interview for the station, and I got to go back stage
and meet J-Live, Vast Aire and some of the other
performers (sadly, not GZA). GZA killed it. The place
was packed tight and the people lost their minds when
GZA dropped it. "I slayed MCs back in the rec room era/
my style broke motherfucking backs like Ken Patera."
Liquid Swords was one of the first rap tapes I ever
bought. This was my first time checking GZA live"...
J
Butler
(KPSU-Portland):
" All right y’all, it’s about time…time for me to pass
the torch. My man Adam Brody, in the music
industry for some 10 years, will be doing CMJ
reporting and charts to labels and the like. He’s
been involved with radio at
Western Oregon University, University of Montana and
works for a premiere music venue in downtown
Portland,
OR.
The next Hip-Hop director/reporter at KPSU. I’m on the
move to graduation, home improvement, the mixtape world
and many other new endeavors that are not permitting me
to continue as the hip hop director at KPSU. I’m going
to miss somebody this week, but I’ll be sure to hit you
with a shout next week when I do the last of the
reporting. Nes, thanks for holding down the NW
with all that you do. Jess, as persistent a promo rep as
you are I’m still not sick of you…I’ll HOLLER, good
products.
Alma,
you get NY love like your name was kid/son. Papa D,
one of the hardest working Red Sox fans in the
business….appreciate Brick product. Sean Rock,
thanks for the love with the vinyl, good luck. Angie
at Teflon, hope all is well. My
Trilogy/Foundation people, y’all are the best. Good
luck with the organization. Karen at
Basementalism, good lookin out with all those
Tres hotcakes. My Insomniac tribe,
KPSU is coming your way. JoJo, keep it real
gully. KPSU ‘appreciates, like Pete Rock and
CL Smooth. I’ll be hittin y’all with one more 30 and
CMJ next week"...

DJ Nesto (WODU-VA): "
First

and without him who know what the mixtape world would be
like. Second, props to Nes for his constant struggle to
keep at these major labels for service. You truely are
an assest to the college Hip-Hop radio community"...
DJ
Raw B (KUSF-SF): " Sup peoples?! We had a
packed house this past Sunday on Beatsauce. Up first we
had DJ Centipede in studio promoting his new
record Mophono I Cry. This kid's been making
noise around the local DJ circuit and he's put together
a top notch record. Fans of DJ Shadow will dig
his music. Check out
Http://www.cbrecords.com
for more info. Next up, we featured some
beats from down the street. DNAE Beats joined us
to promote his new record Eternal Autumn. If your
looking for some gritty underground hip-hop then pick
this album up. Also check his website if you are looking
for beats...

DJ
Spider (TheBassment.com): " THANKS TO
EVERYONE WHO VOTED TO MAKE THEBASSMENT.COM THE
WINNER OF THE
BEST HIP HOP STATION ON LIVE365.COM!!"...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
" By now I'm sure you all know about the death of Just O
Faison. I had known Just O since the early 90's from his
day at Nervous and
Atlantic
Records. In addition to his days there he also founded
the annual "Mixtape Awards" event and helped countless
mixtape dj's get recognition from labels. Just O was
always ready to help whoever asked and was an all around
good guy. With all due respect, there aren't too many of
those kind of those left in the game. I hope his hard
work for the dj's is not lost. I know it won't be in my
mind. Rest in peace brother"...
Vegas
(WEAA-Basltimore): "Next week I'm going to turn over all
record reporting to the host/producer of the show.
Ahk. He will still use the same e-mail
(hiphopstrictly@hotmail.com)
amd the same phone # (443-885-1492). It's been Peace
working with everyone. I'll still be around the station
and the show"...
Max
Brown
(WMHB-ME): " I MUST give my condolences to the
Faison family. Justo was one of the few true innovators
of the Mixtape game, and made huge contributions to Hip
Hop. R.I.P."...
Nate Abney
(WKDU-PA):
" I'm really looking forward to the Common album
what I've heard so far has been very hot, so hopefully
this string of hotness will continue throughout the
summer. It is me or is Guru on alot of records
recently? Enough yacking I'm out"...
