Styles
will
be making an appearance on Jay Leno's
"Tonight Show" this Tuesday night performing his debut
joint from the motion picture "Rize." The website for
the Lions Gate’s upcoming film RIZE is now up and
running:
http://www.rizemovie.com/. Be sure to check out
the Battlezone section, and watch the Clowns
Vs. the Krumpers! RIZE reveals a
groundbreaking dance phenomenon that’s exploding on the
streets of South Central, Los Angeles. Taking advantage
of unprecedented access, this documentary film by
David LaChapelle brings to first light a
revolutionary form of artistic expression borne from
oppression. The aggressive and visually stunning dance
modernizes moves indigenous to African tribal rituals
and features mind-blowing, athletic movement sped up to
impossible speeds. RIZE tracks the fascinating evolution
of the dance: we meet Tommy Johnson (Tommy the
Clown-see photo above), who first created the style
as a response to the 1992 Rodney King riots and
named it “Clowning”, as well as the kids who developed
the movement into what they now call Krumping. The kids
use dance as an alternative to gangs and hustling: they
form their own troupes and paint their faces like
warriors, meeting to outperform rival gangs of dancers
or just to hone their skills. For the dancers, Krumping
becomes a way of life - and, because it’s authentic
expression (in complete opposition to the bling-bling
hip-hop culture), the dance becomes a vital part of who
they are. RIZE hits theatres June 24th!
Meantime, thank you to our RAP ATTACK
panel for their support on Bay Area's Flii Stylz

(KHDC
#2-CA): " Back from vacation this week. Did it up
Clark Griswald style ("The Moose out front should
have told you the park was closed.") and took the family
on Vacation. Went to Walt Disney World in
Orlando, FL. Had a great time but that weather is crazy
out there. I thought it was all Miami Vice and sunshine
but they get mad rain for real. Happened to be at MGM
studios on "star wars" weekend. Met people much
crazier about star wars than even kazzeo. Was making
conversation with this one lady rocking a Jedi
outfit in line for a rollercoaster. She introduced
herself as Linda, Linda Skywalker. It was
one of those rare moments on vacation that I wasn't
drinking a beer but it probably would have shot out my
nose if I was. Peace to Kazzeo Skywalker. He
would have loved it. Shouts to Spencer For Hire
(of "Tried by 12" fame) from East Flatbush
Projects for the mp3 heat. They got a nice write up
in XXL. Be sure to cop the mix cd when it
comes out. Hip-Hop how it should be"...
Max
Brown
(WMHB-ME):
" Yo Yo Yo! What's up, my peoples?! I hope that the
world has been treating you well. I have been doing
well, the weather warmed up significantly in these here
parts, and thanks to the brain-frying heat, I had the
GREAT idea to go swimming at the beach. Yeah...the
Atlantic ocean...in June...in Maine...is still VERY
COLD! I think it's safe to say, that the package shrunk
two sizes that day! Anyway, the crazy vinyl continues to
flood the mailroom, and I am subsumed by a flume of hot
records. But I am resolved to listen to all, and get
feedback to everyone...in time. For all the QB fans out
there, I've recently been working on promoting IMAM
T.H.U.G.'s new Summer 2005 album. IMAM is a QB
legend, having done tracks with Mobb Deep,
Tragedy Kahadfi, Infamous Mobb and Nas
back in the day. The new album will be
executive-produced by Steve Sola and feature
production from Havoc and will include tracks
with Prodigy, Infamous Mobb and Big Noyd.
The first single, the street-anthem "Black Van" will be
out on vinyl in the coming week, and if anyone's
interested in doing interviews, or hearing the new
material, just get at me!

Edgie
(see
my mug up above) Kokoski (WUNH-NH)L "I
don’t know who makes me wretch more: Michael Jackson
for getting of the hook, or the dumb-ass jurors who
let him off the hook. If you’ve had a chance to see the
post-trial interviews with these brain donors, then you
know what I am talking about. I love that one juror came
right out and said that she thought Michael Jackson was
a child molester, and another said that she ruled in
favor of Michael because she didn’t like the attitude of
the accuser’s mother. I think next time we have a big
celebrity trial, they should just forget the jury and
just decide the verdict with a coin toss. Not only would
it save a lot of time and tax-payer money, but at least
there would be a 50% chance that justice would be
served…I read this week that Hip-Hop celebrity pimp
Don “Magic” Juan has been given a
monthly column in “Elemental” magazine. I’m glad that I
still toil in a hellacious 9-5 job while philosophical
intellectuals like Don “Magic” fucking Juan the pimp get
cushy literary jobs. I would be surprised if this garish
panderer can string two words together. I suppose
“Hooked on Phonics” will be getting a nice order this
week…Speaking of gaudy and garish, Cam’ron has announced
his new Italian culture clothing line called “Vivali”.
The Italian translation is “I’m Fly”. One thing is
certain: there is nothing fly about the price of hip hop
star inspired clothing lines. I should buy some savings
bonds now so that when they mature in 15 years, I can
afford a sock. More pessimism and grumbling next week,
guaranteed"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly):
"Its another scorcher this week in Philly. My highlights
include losing money in Atlantic City and watching my
Phils win games. MJ is innocent( like I
didn't know this all along). I did have my free Michael
Jackson t-shirts ready just in case. Alot of shows
coming my way so I'll have try and make some. Enough
yacking for now talk to ya next week"...
