The website for the Lions Gate’s film RIZE is now up and running: http://www.rizemovie.com/. Be sure to check out the Battlezone section, and watch the Clowns Vs. the Krumpers! RIZE reveals a groundbreaking dance phenomenon that’s exploding on the streets of South Central, Los Angeles. Taking advantage of unprecedented access, this documentary film by David LaChapelle brings to first light a revolutionary form of artistic expression borne from oppression. The aggressive and visually stunning dance modernizes moves indigenous to African tribal rituals and features mind-blowing, athletic movement sped up to impossible speeds. RIZE tracks the fascinating evolution of the dance: we meet Tommy Johnson (Tommy the Clown), who first created the style as a response to the 1992 Rodney King riots and named it “Clowning”, as well as the kids who developed the movement into what they now call Krumping. The kids use dance as an alternative to gangs and hustling: they form their own troupes and paint their faces like warriors, meeting to outperform rival gangs of dancers or just to hone their skills. For the dancers, Krumping becomes a way of life - and, because it’s authentic expression (in complete opposition to the bling-bling hip-hop culture), the dance becomes a vital part of who they are. RIZE hits theatres June 24th! Meantime, thank you to our RAP ATTACK panel for their support on Bay Area's Flii Stylz & his debut single "Rize" (Social Capital/Forster Bros./EMI)...Congrats to Deux Process who just signed with Avatar Records! Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

DJ Bri-G (Mixtapes-NY): " Lookout for my next mix cd "THE WAR REPORT" hosted by soldiers live from Iraq. It’s been said that Hip Hop is the soundtrack to the war in Iraq for the soldiers. I’m trying to help give them a voice in this soundtrack. This mixtape will include drops and freestyles from soldiers live on the ground in Iraq. Included in this will be Hip Hop’s top artists shouting out the soldiers. Proceeds will go to the USO to support our troops at home and abroad. I have the soldier’s end covered, but I would need help from you as far as getting drops and music from your artists. This can be freestyles and/or new music. The drops should mention the troops, the name of the mixtape, and our names(Bri-G is pronounced like Brian). I’m really excited about doing this for the soldiers and I know they’ll appreciate it. Please let me know if you can help me out with this. You can hit me up online at: brian.gaffey@therpmgroup.com"...

DJ Buddhabong (SolofHipHop.com): " SOL of HIPHOP Radio will be moving to 8-10pm PST on Fridays online at: www.solofhiphop.com (Every Friday 8-10pm pst - Live from Cal State Fullerton (TIR)), SOL of HIPHOP Over 5 years STRONG!!! THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT & PORT COLLEGE RADIO!"...

Jason Gloss (WOWL-FL): "If you didn't already know, it's official, Gang Starr broke up. Guru's new album reminds me of how much I already miss them.

- I started out not giving two shits about the NBA finals, boy was I wroooooooooooooooooong!

- My car got broken into last night. All they took was my Sirius radio. Little do they know they won't even be able to play it now that the key is terminated inside the box.

- Jay-Z owns every track he appears on. The "Diamonds Remix" is so fresh and I'm not even a Kanye fan. Too bad Memphis Bleek has zero street cred now.

- Game. Oh boy, his 300 Bars was funny. Good for like a week but now that he just about managed to beef with everyone in Hip-Hop--how long will he really last?

- Derrek Lee is the best baseball player this year and it isn't even funny.

- I'm going to Paris on my honeymoon (Sept 7th), anyone ever been? Suggestions?

- The most added jawn is VERY dope and if you don't have it, please contract Shaw Hargett or myself. Thanks.

- I'm going to the Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago concert next month. Don't front like you didn't like "You're My Inspiration?" The shit from Karate Kid was classic.

- It was nice to see Flii Stylz on The Jay Leno Show the other night. For those that didn't know, he made his debut on "A League of Our Own V2."

- Is Insomniac even around anymore? Remember when Gavin and Hits were like the bible of charting? Ahh, the good 'ol days"...

Jim Tess (WUML-MA): " Coming in JULY: Hip-Hop Summer Classics. We will be having artists into the studio to host their 5 favorite songs, 5 favorite summer songs, 5 favorite gangsta rap songs, etc. Then they will perform one of their favorites updated for the 2005 with their own lyrics. Email me if you would like to take part in the fun. We are located in Lowell Mass, about 30 minutes north of Boston. We would prefer to do it live on the show, but can pre-record in the WUML studios if time/tour/etc neccesitates"...

Max Brown (WMHB-ME): " Assalam Alaikum! What's up guys, how have things been?! I've been practicing my Arabic, and it's been slow going.(Why don't they write in the vowels?!) Yeah, things have been good up here, I was hoping to get down to the city this past weekend to check the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, but unfortunately things didn't work out. Next year, I swear! But, I did get to see the new Batman movie, and as a fully-fledged comic book herb myself, I have to say that it was frikkin' awesome! I've always been frightened by Christian Bale since I fiirst saw him in American Psycho, and he makes a perfectly menacing Batman. Good stuff... Ok, I'ma keep it movin' this week and get straight to the sweet, creamy filling! Hit me anytime if there's anything I can do for you, or if you want to
talk comics! Spoon! P.S. Yo, that Kanye West, "Diamonds are Forever" remix is nuts! DeBeers has done some fucked up shit and the diamond industry NEEDS to be aired out. Thank you Kanye!"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): " I think it's funny that I get emails to add records or see them listed as going for adds on quickpix yet no matter how times I contact the promoter about not having it, I never get laced. Good to see that you're on top of your game"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): " Kudos to Cassidy for dreaming up the best promotional stunt that a rapper has ever pulled to hype a new album release: murder someone! I can only imagine the Peptol-Bismo that is being slugged down at the J Records offices as they watch 6 months of work go down the toilet. It’s always sad when an up and coming hip hop artist “can’t leave the streets behind” and ruins their career, but Cassidy didn’t really think this one out too well. If he wanted to murk some rival he should have lured the guy to California. They set murderers free on an almost daily basis. I think that the big winner here is that little kid who impersonates Cassidy at the beginning of the “I’m a Hustla” video. I would assume his services will be high demand for the next 25 to life!

Things that pissed Edgie off this week:

1. Urinals with no divider. I recently moved my desk at work to a new area which puts me conveniently closer to a new bathroom which I have never used in the 4 years that I have worked for my company. The problem with this bathroom is one that plagues many men’s rooms: no divider between the urinals. Ladies, I know that you think that all guys have that locker room mentality where we can just pee and shower in front of each other and it’s no big deal. Not true! We like privacy as much as you do and so when some guy is standing shoulder to shoulder with you holding his wang, it’s a little uncomfortable. That 1 inch thick board between the urinals is an invaluable buffer zone. Plus, it’s a key place to write dirty poems and share the names and telephone numbers of “loose” women.

2. “God Bless America” during the 7th inning of the baseball game. Okay, I know that in post-9/11 America it is sacrilege not to flag wave over America’s virtue at any possible opportunity, but when did our national pastime become our patriotic pantheon? The 7th inning was break time! We used it to get a beer, buy a giant foam finger, or pee in a bathroom that hopefully had urinal dividers. Now everyone has to stand and suffer through a lip-synched hatchet job by some local yokel. Toss it in the mix for Memorial Day and July 4th, not every game.

3. “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. If you haven’t seen the ads for this movie, first; drop to your knees and praise Jesus Christ like he just cured you of terminal cancer. If you have, then you know it’s a movie about some teen sluts who apparently pass around their skeezer pants like some kind of chain letter. Two questions: Primarily, who in the living fuck in Hollywood agreed to spend money to make a movie like this? I’ll bet he works in the same office as the guy who hired Don Magic Juan to write a magazine column. Secondly, where can I find some of the chicks that wear these whore pants?

4. Bike Week. Every summer in New Hampshire, we have “Bike Week”. It’s where 100,000 motorcycle enthusiasts and gang members crowd into NH to get annihilated, start fights, and ride around with their biker trash girlfriends. For the entire week, it’s like the first “Mad Max” movie on the highways of our sleepy little state. We breathe a sigh of relief on Father’s Day when the bike scabs who weren’t imprisoned finally pack up and go to whatever place they normally brutalize. I guarantee you that they leave some “traveling pants” in their wake. At least they killed less people this past week than Cassidy"...
