THE GOLDEN CHILD  After all these years, Ahsan "The Golden Child" (left) from New Jersey's WRSU still has the golden Hip-Hop touch. "We're Numero Uno," says Nasty-Nes (right)!

KEEPIN' IT UNDERGROUND  It's Boogie Down Bronx's Y.S.L. who's featured on Mixtape.com's "Underground Hip-Hop Compilation Vol. 2" track #14! Peep it cause YOU SHOULD LISTEN!

[[  September 6,  2005  ]]

What's upper?  I hope you had a well rested & blessed 3 day Labor Day weekend... It's no secret that thousands of people outta New Orleans & MS. are suffering a humongous loss durring the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. Every dj on my RAP ATTACK panel is fam to me & when one of our own is hurting, I'm there for them in a quickness. Last week my heart dropped knowing that our RAP ATTACK MIXTAPE reporter, DJ Maxmillion outta New Orleans could be one of the thousands missing or even dead. Trying to call anyone in New Orleans won't work since their phone lines are down so I decided to email Maxmillion hoping and praying a miracle will happen & I'd hear back from him. Praise God, I did & here's what Maxmillion had to say as is:

"Peace Nes,

Trust all is well on your end............We're safe............I'm in Atlanta.......We were in Crystal Springs MS (35 miles outside of Jackson) but the power shut down there..........Made it to Atlanta last night about 7 o'clock PM yesterday..............I won't even begin to describe what's goin' on in New Orleans, but it's so much worse than what you're watching on the news....... I really appreciate your concerns....... Once i get settled, I'll give you an address where i can get business started again......Needless to say..........For the moment, all of my possessions are gone.........Thanks for lookin' out.........I'll need a solid from you soon...........If you can get at all of your contacts to start sending me vinyl (discs, whatever) at a new address (I'll hit you with it during the upcoming week)..Whatever they have, i need it....tryin' to get some gigs out here, make some money....I'll call you during the week to rap with you........Peace homie......Easy..Later You're a hundred with me.........Easy!!"

So there it is. You can email Maxmillion to wish him the best, etc. at: emaxmillion@hotmail.com . For now contact your local Red Cross, churches, etc. & do your thinh by donating clothes and/or money. Here's a toll free # you can call:1-800-HELP NOW...

Interscope Records has re-opened up their College Radio department. RAP ATTACK DJ's are in for a treat as we are officially back in full effect with Interscope. Here's the man to hit up, Rahshiene Taha (see photo above) at: (310) 865-7921 or online at: collegeiga@yahoo.com. Please shout him out & show our new fam love & respect...

Big ups to Virgin Records who sponsored last weeks RAP ATTACK CONFERENCE call. Our guest was none other than, GA's own Bubba Sparxxx whose single "Ugly" made huge noise nationally via radio, clubs & video play back in 2001. Bubba's now back in the '05 & signed to Big Boi's label, Purple Ribbon. His latest joint, "Hey" is putting him back on the Hip-Hop map & his next release "Other Side" will feature Petey Pablo & Sleepy Brown. After Bubba spoke to us for a good 40 minutes, it's clear that this kat is genuine & I hope you will show Bubba lots of turntable love...

New artist on the come up is artist, Short Dawg with his debut release "Cruizing" (Russell Simmons Music Group). Yes, Russel Simmons is back in the music biz dropping what is sure to catch on fiya nationally like everything he's touched in the past! "Cruizing" ships to our RAP ATTACK panel this week...

There's a track off of the new Black Eyed Peas album "Monkey Business" (Interscope) titled, "My Humps" which blew me away! This track has a dope old school feel to it & in my opinion reminds me of Sexual Harrassment's "I Need A Freak," meets "Egyptian Lover "Egypt Egypt" meets L' Trimm "Cars That Go Boom!" If you're into that, then "My Humps is the jam for you...

Remember peepin' out Erick Sermon's "Feel It" featuring Alfonzo Hunter & Sean Paul? If you do than you probably said to yourself that this kat Alfonzo needs to drop his own solo ish! Now get ready for the all new single by Alfonzo Hunter featuring Fabolous with "Don't Stop" (Romeo Entertainment). This track has got a tight hook & I swear, Alfonzo sounds like the next Brian McKnight while Fab makes this joint a hit!...

Yay area's own B-Legit is making his strongest comeback this year with his new sdingle "Guess Who's Back" featuring E-40 (SMC Recordings/ Universal)...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Garbs Infinite (WRUW-OH): " Droppin' now is the brand new Vincenzo "The Payne EP" featuring 11 phat tracks from Cleveland's own.Vincenzo has been out on the Cleveland scene for a while. In a lot of cases most people have known him as a battle mc. He has won countless Cleveland battles and about a year and a half ago he won the "Kool Mix MC Battle" out here. Around the same time I met up with him and took him under my wing because he expressed to me that he wanted to concentrate on making songs instead of just being known as a battle cat. His hunger to make music and perform is very strong thats why myself and Saj Supreme had no problem bringing him into the crew! He's been through a lot of hard situations in these Cleveland streets so he fit right into the camp. If you'd like to get laced with a copy on cd to play on your show, hit up John A. Malm, Jr. at (216) 523-1361 or online at: jmalm@conservative-mgmt.com"...

Dan Shores (WHRW-NY): "Comrades, how's it going ? I've got a question , what is going on ( Hip-Hop wise) for CMJ ? So far I only heard about the Room Service Little Brother show w/ Rhymefest and a few other acts. That is the only thing I've heard of. If there is anything going on can you please let me know? This is typically a time for college dj's and promoters to build, meet each other and share a few laughs etc. I'd like to know who's headed to NYC also. If you can ,please drop me a line here with any info regarding meet and greets or shows ,it'd be greatly appreciated"...

Nick Huff (KOXY-Los Angeles): "Just got back from Magic in Vegas, met too many people to shout everyone out but I wanted to thank Lucky Lou and Abe Froman Showmen (funniest dj crew out there) for the hospitality. I will not make it out to CMJ this year but I will be in the Bahamas for Power Summit, so reach out if you are also going. Those of you hitting me up about the next mixtape, your wait is almost over, DJ Icewater and myself are putting the finishing touches on "Soundtrack to the Struggle", which is hosted be Rico Pabon"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): " Let me first start off by wishing well to everyone on the gulf coast. That hurricane really beat that area up. I did not expect to see that much devastation. The pictures are surreal. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone down there. They are not going to have any power for weeks, and life is not going to be the same for them for a very long time. Whole towns were taken out. That is insane. I also want to give a shout to Nasty Nes. Hope your sister gets well soon homie"...

Wildman Steve (BringTheNoise.com): " No playlist for the next couple of weeks until Sept. 21 I need a little time off to recharge. But I'll be checking my e-mails. I have to shout my man Double J. I met him for the first time at Downtown a club out in Farmingdale, Strong Island. I was a birthday party for DJ Oxygen from WUSB in Stony Brook. Perormances by The Large Professor, DJ Alias Christ, Grand Daddy I. U. and Mickey D and DJ Johnny Quest, DJ Tuff Tom and Legendary DJ Johnny Juice. There were other cats that performed but I didn't get to see them perform. This show brought back a lot of good memories. Most of these cats I haven't seen in over ten years since the demise of WBAU. I felt that my man Mickey D and DJ Johnny Quest ripped it follwed by Large Pro and Grand Daddy IU. Legendary MC Roxanne Shante was in the house as well. The place wasn't packed but it was a nice size crowd with no problems. Yo Nes, I got pictures for you"...

Max Brown (WMHB-ME): " What's happenin' y'all?! I hope everyone is feeling good. I'm going to have to keep today's issue of the Max Report short, as I am feverishly packing all my junk for the trip Back 2 School. Yeah...school... But I have to give a few shout outs before I depart! First, I send my condolences and love to everyone down south who are fighting through this crazy natural disaster. I'm happy that most people were able to get out before the storm arrived in full. Keep your heads up! Second, I have to give a shout out to my man Oxygen who put down a crazy Birthday Bash this past Monday out at The Downtown! Facing technical and personnel issues, my man Ox single-handedly out on a crazy show featuring The Lenzmen, Granddaddy IU, and Large Professor. So, Big Shout Out to Ox! I'm hoping to get some artists to come up to Colby to do some shows this year, so if anyone knows some artists who would like to come up do a crazy Maine show, get at me!"...

Solo (WECI-IN): " What up? Things seem to be better, but I still NEED A VACATION!!! So there I was, sitting in the dark. I would call this a black Tuesday. The power went out at school today. What was up with the passing of the haterade at MTV's VMA's? I know IDJ got mad love, from KW to M. Carey.

The Gold Digger performance was explosive like Green Day's. I don't care for them that much, but they rocked it. One performance that I got confused over, had to be R. Kelly's. It just simply made me sleepy. He is not broadway material yet. He didn't act everything like they said he would. Was it me or was Suchin Pak (excuse the spelling) from MTV a little too excited to see everyone"...

EarthQuake (Live365.com): "My thoughts are with all the people in the gulf coast dealing with Hurricane Katrina. It’s amazing watching all the tv coverage of the damage and flooding. Last but not least my thoughts and prayers are with Nasty Nes and his sister Ann. I hope she recovers quickly from her sickness. It’s hard when so many people are dealing with these situations"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I guess it’s pretty tough to complain about anything this week, because no matter how bad you have it, at least your city isn’t submerged in water.Leave it to hip hop to trivialize life with its zany news bits! Here are my favorites for this week.

1. Here’s some free advice to would-be Suge Knight attackers: Make sure you schedule extra time at the shooting range to ensure that you hit the mark. Because if you miss a guy like Suge Knight, and he survives your attempt, I feel pretty confident that he will get medieval on your ass. I personally am glad that Suge survived. Because if not, who would be there to bring us the timeless music of Petey Pablo and the soundtracks to Eddie Griffin movies?

2. Lil Jon was honored (oh boy, it makes me gag just to type that word “honored”) for his songwriting (again, violent gags, and I threw up a little in my mouth) by the BMI Music Awards. Jon got the nod for his ring tone “Freek-A-Leek”. I’m sure that someday that will be in the 9th grade English class right alongside Dickens and Twain.

3. Slim Thug made it on to the soundtrack for Madden 2006! Wow, I’m so excited, I just shit my pants. This has been what’s holding me back. Now that Madden has recognized the real street shit, I’m on my way to Best Buy to cop this game. It’s worth the $50 just to see how much fatter and annoying Madden has got since last year’s game"...

Double J (Mixtape-Brooklyn): " Happy Labor Day. I hope you are enjoying your day off, if you have it off. As Lee and I have been mentioning, we are going to be working with Babygrande to transition their radio promo in house. The radio contact over there will be Jimmy Landry. Please reach out to him at radio@babygrande.com. Make sure to add this email address to your list for weekly charts and make sure to copy him on feedback for Babygrande projects. Speaking of, what are your thoughts on the Lawless Element and D.K. 12”s? Who is coming to NYC for CMJ? A heads up to those that will be in town on Wed, September 14. Papa D (Brick Records), Shaw (Vintage Music) and I put together an official CMJ showcase featuring performances by O.C., El Da Sensei, Casual (Hiero), Doujah Raze, Kaze, Forge & Amen, K.Hill, Raydar Ellis and special guest Kev Brown. The show starts at 11 pm at the Lion’s Den. The first 75 CMJ badges will be admitted for free. Be there!!!"...

Brian Coulombe (WBRS-MA): "If anyone is going to the Mixshow Power Summit this year, please hit me up if you know of any solid flight deals :) IMPORTANT NEWS: I am moving on Sept 1st so as a result I have a new mailing address AND email address. Please update your records with the following:

 49 Lane Park
