What's upper? I had an awesome weekend. I took my
daughter to see Walt Disney's animated
motion picture "Chicken Little" shown in 3-D last
Saturday night. If you have kids, this is one of the
best new movies out you can totally enjoy watching with
your kids. Two thumbs up to "Chicken Little!!!"...
IMPORTANT TO ALL RAP ATTACK REPORTING DJ's & RECORD
LABEL REPS:
The
last day to report your Top 30 chart for 2005 will be on
Wednesday, December 14. We will start back up on
Wednesday, January 11, 2006...
Over
the weekend I also went to peep out my dawg, DJ
Creativity in the play, "J.O.B. The Hip-Hopera
(see photo above)." I wasn't sure what to expect but I
did know that it's been selling out since it's premiere.
This play "Hip-Hopera" is very entertaining & it can be
compared to watching a New York Broadway musical but
with a lot of Hip-Hop influences, Hip-Hop dancing & lots
of comedy added to it. A must see if you're in the Los
Angeles (Stella
Adler Theatre-6773 Hollywood Blvd.)
area till mid December 2005. The play runs on Thursday &
Fridays at 8pm and at 3pm & 8pm on Saturday & Sundays.
For more info call: (323)
960-4420 or log onto:
www.sableandbatalion.com. Here's what the L.A.
Times had to say about, "Hip-Hopera": "Revised
from Sable and Batalion's 2002 fringe festival hit, the
new, through-rapped edition jams, breaks and vogues the
Book of Job into sly corporate commentary. The witty,
raw-language scenario concerns Job Lowe, head of artists
and repertoire at Los Angeles-based gangsta label
Hoover Records. He advocates "this thing called
conscious rappin' / That craft of rappin's back in
fashion / And the words have so much passion." Like
"hip" playing against "hop," gravel-voiced company head
Jonathan Hoover (think Jehovah) and fey vice president
of finance Louis Saphire (guess who) toss Job out of his
job into mailroom despair. Unpredictable counterpoint
comes from our hosts, MC Cain and MC Abel, aspiring
rappers lost in the jingle jungle. Both parables,
hilarious and chilling by turns, converge in a dualistic
statement. Ideally contrasted, Sable and Batalion toss
off all the characters, including each other's, with
prodigious verve. Co-directors Stefan Novinski -
presumably responsible for the richly surreal tone - and
Hassan Christopher - credited with the hair-raising
choreography and staging - spin breathtaking tech and a
death-defying corps around them. Inside the neon-based
letters that back Donna Marquet's striking metal set
pieces, DJ Creativity heroically scratches out the
invigorating, multireferential score (music by Sable,
Batalion and Joe Barrucco). Steven Young's
color-splashed lights and the by-committee sound are
astounding, and Nikkema Taylor makes a fly R&B
vocalist. The few blurred lyrics and confusing
transitions pale beside such innovation. Approaching the
arch ingenuity of "Play Without Words" and dark
frivolity of "Echo's Hammer," not to mention Savion
Glover and Russell Simmons, "J.O.B." is a watershed
event. Don't diss it, don't miss it"...
Here's a letter from DJ Impact I wanted to share with
you. I really felt that you should read this & hopefully
it'll wake you up if you've been sleepin'. You can
respond to it with your feedback at:
djimpact@deejayimpact.com:
Dear
Mixshow/Mixtape DJ Family,
We've
got a serious problem within the DJ community and we're
going to have to find a way to solve quick because we've
got more pressing matters than the issue I'm about to
address.
First
things first, effective immediately, I am officially
withdrawing my affiliations with both The Core DJs & The
Shadyville DJs. Be it known that there is absolutely NO
BEEF or ANIMOSITY toward either organization. I have the
utmost respect and gratitude for Tony Neal (The Core) &
Whoo Kid & John Monopoly (Shadyville). If there is
anything I can do as an INDIVIDUAL for any of you feel
free to reach out...I'm still Impact, I'm still here,
I'm still the same guy.
Well
last night after receiving a reminder to the brewing
ISSUE within the DJ community I sat and thought about
the following:
·
Most
mixshow DJ do not have health insurance
·
Mixshow DJs are usually the least paid and the first to
be let go at their stations when the numbers are down
and the budgets get tight.
·
It's
still illegal for Mixtape DJs to sell mixtapes because
the RIAA considers them bootleggers.
·
There's a lot of cats undercutting & throwing each under
the bus for the few mixer/mixtape slots that are out
there.
For
the DJ coalitions, some set out to fix that but are we
accomplishing that mission? Right now, all I personally
see it as is another reason for tension within the DJ
community.
"I
can't get down with so and so, he's a Pitbull." "I can't
be on the bill for that show with him, he's a
Heavyhitter." "I can't publicly show my support for him,
he's in the Core." "I'm not playing her record, she
shouted out all the other DJ crews in her album credits
except the Violators." "I can't let you be my tour DJ,
the Hittmen might not play my record." "I can't support
your event, the Superfriends might feel I didn't show
them the same love." "Why you let them be down with our
crew if there still in that crew." And I could go on and
on. But I'm here to tell you family it needs to stop
cause it's stupid as hell.
We
sit around as DJs and complain that we're tired of the
dis records and about the hip-hop beef abut here we sit
as the gatekeepers to the ears of the people and we're
running around have DJ crew beef. What part of the game
is that.
Fam,
I can't be apart of that confusion anymore (for the
second time I might add). I'm DJ Impact. I make mixtapes,
I do mixshows, I consult A&Rs, and I promote a concert
or two every now and then when I feel like it.
That's what I do...I'm about the music...I get paid to
do something that I love. Without a boss, without anyone
telling me what or how to believe, or who to associate
with. And I'm not about to start doing anything
differently. I sat down last night, had a brief "What
Would Jam Master Jay" advise me to do session (those
that know my history no the meaning behind that) and
this is what we came up with.
I'm
about being the best DJ that I can be and I always
strive to do it honorably and on my own merits. No
affiliation or crew will change my abilities.
Core
DJs, Shadyville DJs, Pitbulls, Heavyhitters, Violators,
Aphilliates, Hittmen, Soul Selectors, Bum Squad DJs, and
any crew that I missed (right now a DJ is sitting there
saying...yo he didn't mention us!!!) please find a way
to sit down on one accord and try to come with ways to
bring the DJ community together rather father apart. As
DJs we all have the same common goal of GIVING THE
PEOPLE GOOD QUALITY MUSIC. Let's focus on that and
making sure we work to make sure the DJ continues to get
just due in the hip-hop legacy.
With
Love & Respect,
I.M.P.A.C.T.

Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
Wow, what a crazy week! Here are some of the incredible
things that I can’t believe happened last week:
It
Snowed Already!
That’s right…as I was leaving my office on Saturday, it
was so cold and windy that snow was falling on October
29th. How pathetic. I guess I can settle in
for a long abusive winter.
The Red Sox let Theo Epstein walk!
I guess the long cold winter won’t feel half as bad as
the long cold rut that the Red Sox will be in for the
next 10 years after they let the guy who improved the
team 10 fold slip through their fingers.
The Doujah Raze album hit stores!
Yes! Finally! Go cop this album if you haven’t already.
I have to applaud the Trilogy crew for featuring a HIP
HOP LEGEND on track 18. You won’t believe who it is.
Check for yourself!
Nas
and
Jay-Z shared a stage!
Wow! The only way I could be more shocked is if someone
caught 50 Cent and Ja Rule drinking a milk
shake out of one glass with two straws!
The Giants won 36-0!
The first Giants shutout since…well…since…I think
football was invented…
I
won my football pool!
Nothing like illegal sports gambling to get you through
the dreary days at your demoralizing job. Of course, you
do have the obligatory week of all your co-workers being
pissed at you that follows the glorious win…
I
broke my puke streak!
Nearly 3 years without an alcohol induced vomiting…all
down the drain! I guess when I was at my buddy’s
Halloween party, I should have stopped at 12 beiruit
games. 13 is an unlucky number after all…
XXL
sucked again this month!
At this pace, I may have to dig out my old back issues
of “Rap Pages”…
Hopefully, next week will be a little more believable.
This is too much excitement for 7 days"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA):
" Well homecoming at P.S.U. was quite the
occassion. I saw alot of people who made my days in
Happy
Valley
memorable(both pro and con) and found out no matter how
old you get some people will never change. Kanye
killed it. Too damn bad I was fighting deer trying to
get there so I missed it. But the Lions stomped
Purdue so I was happy on Saturday and low on
Sunday when the Birds got stomped by
Denver.
I'm really sick of these 50/50 weekends. I also realized
my age is starting to show when I remember what I did a
little over a decade ago at
Penn
State,
I damn near scared myself just talking about it. Haven't
had any real funny stories latetly but I know that will
change with my luck. Until next week let's hope Chris
Webber can stay healthy for the Sixers.
Peace"...

"Starting as of right now, I will remove myself from
reporting to Rapattacklives.com. I feel right
now; I lack the time to dedicate the effort that a good
reporter should dedicate on reporting and leaving
feedback. This is not out of disrespect to Nes
(who is great peeps, BTW), it is more that I'm finding
it difficult to balance school and school related
activities with reporter responsibilities. Also, because
of other responsibilities, where now I have to miss my
own radio show and have coverage of my radio show close
to half the time, I don't feel i can chart fairly and
give the feedback needed. I also need to find a
replacement to begin to train, as this is my final
school year in Tallahassee. When i came to Tallahassee,
I came to do my best in Pharmacy School, and I have to
keep that as my priority. I am not saying that it is not
possible to go to school and do your charts, I am sure
many do this with jobs and kids as well, but I don't
feel I can contribute the effort I was able to before
now taking on new responsibilities that I have. Thanks
to Nasty Nes and the whole rapattacklives fam for
the opportunity, hopefully my spot is given to someone
who is eager as i once was about doing my part for the
local hip hop community and striving artists getting
their spins from us community/college dj's"...
