What's upper? HAPPY THANKSGIVING... One of the
longest running & independent record store here in L.A.
for the last 40 years, Arons Records is closing
it's doors. That was my spot to buy vinyl, cd's & dvd's
& I'm really sad to see this spot go out of business.
Props to my homeboy, Raymond for always lookin'
out for me all these years. I've been a loyal customer
there & I'm gonna miss that spot...
IMPORTANT TO ALL RAP ATTACK REPORTING DJ's & RECORD
LABEL REPS:
The
last day to report your Top 30 chart for 2005 will be on
Wednesday, December 14. We will start back up on
Wednesday, January 11, 2006...
ATTENTION DJ's & RECORD LABEL REPS:
Gordon Curvey has been hosting
Seattle's longest running video show with "Music Inner
City." When his first showed aired back in the late
80's, our videos from Sir Mix-A-Lot were the very
first videos he aired. Please read the following & if
you can help by sending Gordon videos, etc., I'd really
appreciate it. PLEASE READ:
Absolulte tragedy. Gordon Curvey suffered a house fire
that destroyed everything. Old shows, awards, etc. I
just got off the phone with him and let him know that
I'm going to give him all my old promo video reels. If
people can pull together any videos, equipment, etc., to
help Gordon out I know he will greatly appreciate it.
This is a very difficult time for him and he is looking
for a helping hand. Regardless of any ill feelings
people might have towards Gordon, he brings 15 years of
Music Inner City to us on a weekly basis. Let's do what
we can so that he can provide another 15 years.
In
case you have not seen it, the email below is from
Gordon regarding the fire as well as his contact info.
Hey
everyone. Gordon Curvey here of Music Inner City in
Seattle. Yesterday I had a house fire and everything I
had was lost. I lost everything. Video equipment,
everything. I have to start all over again or jump off a
bridge and give up. But as Rev Jackson says I have to
"Keep Hope Alive". Some of you do not like to me to
well, but any support you can give me would be great.
Chris Bennett the owner of KRIZ Radio and The Medium
Newspaper bought me a new computer, new dvd player,
microphone, mini-dv camera and Ulead Video Editing
software for editing my show. Right now I do not have a
place to set it up. I am currently at my mom's but I
need to have my own place. Which hopefully I will have
soon. To all my video reps, please send me all your
current videos and any other past videos you can via dvd
or mini dv or vhs. Please send them to my current
address. I am going to tell the post office to hold my
mail and I will go and pick it up everyday until I get a
permenent residence. Please send my videos throught the
mail instead of Fed Ex or UPS or DHL for now. I need to
restock all the videos I can because I lost all my
videos and interviews. Now I know how the Katrina and
Rina victims feel to not have nothing. Again any support
you can give me it will pick me up becuse I am pretty
down right now. But with God's blessings I will make it
though. Thanks.

Tommy Boy
presents: HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991... VOLUMES 1
- 4 OF HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991
To celebrate its upcoming 25th anniversary, in 2006,
Tommy Boy is releasing HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991, a
foundational 12 volume CD collection featuring 144
extremely diverse tracks which have contributed to the
groundwork of classic Hip Hop music.
HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991
was expertly compiled by executive producers Tom
Silverman (founder and CEO of Tommy Boy) and
Stu Fine (founder of Wild Pitch Records).
With an introduction to the entire collection by
Nelson George, each volume features a set of liner
notes from a noted journalist such as Jeff Chang,
Dan Charnas, Raquel Cepeda, Bill Adler,
Brian Coleman, Toure, Harry Allen
or Davey D. The cover art for each volume
features a classic image from the collection of
Martha Cooper, legendary Hip Hop photographer.
HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991
encompasses a magical era when party dances were
practically made up daily, shouting out your zodiac sign
was flavor and Afrika Bambaataa was pushing his message
of "peace, love, unity and having fun" to the universe.
Some tracks may also re- educate young and old alike to
the dangers of cocaine, unprotected sex, racism, skeezer
women, tramp men or police brutality. The collection
will take you back to a time when Hip Hop was not
mainstream and wasn't always easy to find outside of
NYC. HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991 clocks out just
before the era of Gangsta Rap explodes and just touches
on its beginnings with Schoolly D, Ice-T,
N.W.A. and j ust a few others.
Digging into the HIP HOP ESSENTIALS 1979 - 1991 crates
could reveal wonderful and oft forgotten secrets for
today's industry and commercial artists to discover
about true Hip Hop success:
1. There's no biting in Hip Hop.
2. You must have a DJ and sometimes he is leader of your
crew!
3. Everything can be turned into Hip Hop if you sample
it right.
4. Rap is just one element of the culture not the whole
culture!
5. Being experimental and unique is best.
6. Dancers provide good hype and don't have to be
strippers.
7. It's OK to have a message, be educational and /or
take a stand.
Join us in 2006 to celebrate Tommy Boy's 25th
Anniversary and its significant contributions to the
history of Hip Hop.

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Shinyo
(WNHU-CT):
"What up y'all? Immortal Technique came to New
Haven last week to give a bright spot to a week
otherwise marked by annoyance that is registering for
classes at UNH. Rocking right until the weeknight
curfew in the Elm, Tech had the crowd by the neck.
Sharing the stage with him were Akir, Heltah
Skeltah (!), C Rayz with 4th Pyramid,
Diabolic and Poison Pen. Everybody tore it
up. I've never witnessed such a solid lineup from front
to back. The highlight had to be seeing Ruck and
Rock tear it up on stage. Rock's voice over the
PA is just incredible and I'm glad I got to experience
it. Onto whatcha really want"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.Org):
"Winter is on it's way here in the
Pacific NorthWest.
It's getting down to the 20's at night. It's a cold,
cold world... Catching up on new music this week and had
a chance to check out the Get Rich or Die Trying cd. I
didn't see the movie but would be curious to hear what
you thought. Anyway, I was expecting a lot of Game
disses and more beef. I was surprised to not hear a
single comment about The Game and Window Shopper had all
the names pulled out - and yes this was the dirty
version. What's the world coming to when Fiddy
ain't mad? Overall I really liked the cd. Lots of MOP
and Mobb Deep on there too. I finally got
around to creating a myspace account (see phot & caption
above). I know this is like years after you did. I was
happy to see all of you on there. BUT...I thought email
was bad. I can't believe how much crappy music people
are throwing at me on there. I almost regret joining. I
have to admit it was fun to browse for "swingers" within
10 miles of my house. Hilarious. You get 10 miles out of
my neighborhood and you just might hit a trailer
park"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA):
" Well its another week in the life of ya boy and let me
just say Donovan Mcnabb had one too many before
the
Dallas
game, I don't know where he was in the 4th quarter but
it definitely wasn't at the Linc. The Sixers are
starting to look like a team I might want to watch. and
Psu finishes their BCS business this week.
Two things I've noticed, 1. The ILL single is
dope, and so is the Pharell song. 2. Why do
people withhold information from you when you already
know what's going on with them and they should come out
and tell you so everyone can just get on with their
lives(i.e. T.O, this jawn I know, George Bush,lying
ass hotel guests). Well some things will remain
unchanged and experience is definitely a good teacher
and also a good reason for people to try the same get
over tactics again and again. E-soundbites is still
rockin the airwaves hit us always at
www.wkdu.org on
wed 9pm-12am. Until next week. RIP EDDIE GUERRERO"...
EQUAKE
(LIVE365.COM):
" I am shocked like the rest of the Wrestling
Community on the death of Eddie Guerrero. He will be
missed"...
Raw-B
(KUSF-CA):
"What up Peoples!? I recently started helping out these
folks who've created a new way to listen to music. It's
basically your personal jukebox that's connected to a
network. Think Myspace meets Itunes...yet
completely unique...if that makes sense. Although
they're still in their infancy stages, Chuck D's
Rap Station label and Duck Down Records
have signed on to contribute content to the network.
This is an EXCELLENT way for you and your label to
spread your music free of charge and completely legal.
One of the advantages of using this format is that you
get detailed feedback from the listener i.e. what songs
they like, how many times they listen, their location,
and many more demographic data. Anyway...the best way to
get a grasp about what I'm babbling about is to download
the player and check it out for yourself. If you or your
label is interested in submitting content to this
exclusive network then feel free to hit me back. Thanks
for your time. Here are the links:
To download the player and start listening to new tunes,
you'll need to
register for the music service. Click this link:
http://www.tastyaudio.com/register/92ade93e1fb8
We look forward to your feedback as we roll out this
new way to connect
with independent music. Your comments are extremely
useful for us to
incorporate new ideas into future versions of the
product"...
Meddafore
(Mixtape / Philly): "My
Birthday Bash is set to take place on December 17th,
DOIN IT BIG! Any labels or companies looking to get
involved with sponsorship or anything else related to
the event, hit me up asap at Meddafore@aol.com.
This will be the one to remember!"...
