MOST MEMORABLE HIP-HOP MOMENT IN 2006:

Nasty-Nes (RapAttackLives.com): "A lot of you know about my personal struggles I went through over the past few years & because of my faith in the MAN up above I've overcome those struggles. So I am thankful for that & much more which include this year:

1. My daughter KristiAnne who'll be 14 in Jan '07 told me she wants to be a dj just like her dad (see photo below)!

2. Being featured as an official "MySpace DJ Of The Week"

3. Crazy Pinoy Promotions closes their doors after 14 years in the biz! Big ups to Gene Dexter!

4. Rap Attack at the R&R Club in New York on Nov 3rd "Family Reunion Showcase!" Our most successful event to date!

5. It's been 2 years & 8 months since I quit smoking & I feel GREAT!

I can go on & on & on on how thankful I am for 2006. But I have to reach out to my extended family at RAP ATTACK & say, "THANK YOU!"

You have made this year a great year for me & for Hip-Hop music. I couldn't have done this without you. You've been by my side all these years & I appreciate that. I'm a very humble guy & I don't need the limelight or media to prove to anyone anything. Those that know me well know that everything I do comes from my heart unconditionally"...

Mike Nardone (KXLU-Los Angeles): "Power 106 cancelling Friday Night Flavas, what the fuck were they thinking? It's too bad there is no place a person can hear underground Hip-Hop on commercial radio in LA.

Having Large Professor at my show and later in the year to have A.G. at the show. Two legends from the east.

Seeing Cut Chemist close out his show at the El Rey. I was so hyped to see him on stage as the headliner it gave me goosebumps"...

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "Well this year has been really strange with all that's gone on in Hip-Hop and the rap world as a whole. I can't really think of one thing that I can say was most memorable but one issue did come to mind. Death and that was the most memorable thing I could come up with in Hip-Hop. 1. J Dill formally of Slum Village and an icon in Detroit Hip Hop dies from complications from Lupus. He was only 32 yrs old. 2. Big Proof of the group D-12 another icon in Detroit Hip Hop is killed at the CCC night club in Detroit. 3. Judge orders the city of Los Angeles to pay 1.1 million to the family of Biggie. And last, the death of Friday Night flava's on Power 106 in LA. The last real Hip-Hop shows on commercial radio in the country. Though not on the same scale as the others, it still was a major blow to the music we know and love called HIP HOP. Thanks and thanks for all the love and support from you Nes over the years and in the future"...

The Wonder Twinz (SIRIUS): "2006 had many great moments for The Wonder TwinZ.Yet, our most memorable moment happened on Thursday March 16th... That was the release date for Volume 20 of our magazine The Connex List (www.connexlist.com)  With every new issue, we have a HUGE party at remote lounge in NYC to celebrate it... During that party we had a LIVE performance from Dres (Black Sheep) as well as a performance from Just-Ice!!!!!

The cover of volume 20 was DOPE because it had Kool DJ Red Alert (see photo below) on it. Red Alert knew that he was going to be featured in that issue, but he didn't know that he was going to be on the cover. So what we did was create a giant 5ft x 7ft poster of the cover featuring Red Alert on it and we had it rolled up on stage. Then at one point during the party, we brought Red Alert up on stage and let him know how much we appreciate all that he does. Then we unrolled the poster in front of the whole crowd and right then was the first time that Red Alert saw himself on the cover. But wait! Just when you think that a party couldn't be any more perfect than that, check this out. Our mom and dad came down to that party as a surprise for us (see photo below) Plus they were rockin' our "Are You HipHop" shirts! They loved every minute of that party. Everybody was taking pictures with them. It was dope!!!!! Yo I got a picture of my Mom and Just-Ice..... How Gangsta is that????? Until next time America. Take Care of Yourself and Your Mother!!!"...

DJ EarthQuake (Live365.com): "Highlights for me are all the great music that came out in 2006. Yes there was crap that sold a lot of units, but also good quality hiphop came out too. Being a Rap Attack reporter means a lot to me with how much I have looked up to Nasty Nes when I was younger. I hope you know how much you have been an influence on me. Calling the West Coast DJ of the Year B Mello a friend means a lot. I used to look up to him when I was younger and it’s always fun to be a guest on Street Sounds. On a personal level the birth of my first son was amazing and seeing how fast they grow. The best is yet to come for my wife and I"...

DJ Buddhabong (SOL of HIPHOP Radio-www.solofhiphop.com): "My most memorable Hip-Hop moment in 2006 was on February 10th, 2006. That was the day that I found out that Jay "Dilla" Dee had past away. One of the most influential Hip-Hop producers in my life time had past away. That day and the weeks after we had a special section of the radio show dedicated to Jay Dilla. In tribute we played songs produced by Dilla and the breaks that were sampled. Jay Dee has touched each of our souls here on the SOL of HIPHOP Radio show and in continued support we will continue to educate the masses about Jay "Dilla" Dee and his influential music/ sound"...

Brett Johnson aka DJ OB1 (WUPX-MI): "The passing of Jay Dee really touched many in so many ways. He was, is, and forever will be a legend. Emerging from Michigan as a Hip Hop mogul with out gimmicks or games, just pure unadulterated talent, a musical genius that will be remembered forever. RIP Dilla, we love you"...

DJ Technic (Mixtapes-New York): "Is when I saw Jay-Z in conert here in New York at Madison Square Garden and rite in the middle of it he introduced a new artist that's gonna be down with Def Jam! That artist was Nas! Even thought they both had a problem with each other, they both worked it out"...

DJ Solo (WECI-Indiana): "I would say when Kat Williams hosted the BET Hip-Hop Award Show. That  was nice"...

J-Tyme (X104-Seattle): "The year 2006 was a pretty good year for me. The Seahawks played in their first Superbowl and even though they got robbed, it was a historic event. While out in Detroit to take part in the Superbowl festivities, I got a chance to kick it with my homie Chill Will and hung out backstage for the "Super Rap Bowl" which consisted of performances by Ludacris, Freeway and Young Jeezy inside the Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons. Good lookin out to Chill Will for showing me, my girl and my dude DJ D'Lemma his city (see photo below). Another highlight was when Resident Media of Seattle brought out Rob Swift Labor Day weekend to rock a party. I seized the oppurtunity to open up and share the stage with Rob (on a side note, A-Trak was also on the bill, but had to cancel last minute due to being sick). It was a real honor to open up for Rob Swift since I've been a fan of his since I started DJing back in 1991. Overall, it was great to see the West Coast get some shine with the whole Hyphy movement and the Pacific Northwest really starting to come alive with the creation of Massline Media and their roster of artists: Blue Scholars, Common Market and Gabriel Teodros. I look forward to making bigger moves and being part of even bigger things in 2007.
On a side note, please make note of my new email address (mr.jtyme@gmail.com). This is now my priority email address for MP3's and other incoming emails effective immediately. Please remove my hotmail email address (j_tyme73@hotmail) and replace it with my gmail address. Thanks. Happy holidays and God bless"...

Dan Shores (WHRW-NY): "2006 - March / April "Grade A" was a strong series of events my company "CPP Marketing and Promotion" put forth. These were in two week intervals in a spacious 2nd floor art gallery in Binghamton NY. Combining live graffiti on canvas, DJ's, and film. Each installment in this series was dope. We even had DJ Kaos (El Da Sensei's DJ) come through for the last one. It was as some local press called it "The gallery meets the streets" or something.

CPP Artists / Radio Involvement - Dj's got their first tastes of artists such as M.L, Kway Floss, Wade Waters, Kwote Scriptures and Emilio Rojas aka Raks One. We were successfull in getting some of these artists on shows via phone interviews or actual in studio appearances at stations in major markets (Thanks JayForce,3D,DJ Emskee and DJ Eclipse and anyone I'm forgetting ). What we're doing with the radio promotion is slowly but surely exposing djs to new quality artists, they may have never heard of. We took Wade Waters joint to top 7, and hey that isnt bad for a struggling upstart eh?

NYC CMJ - Again with a few guys we did a nice little CMJ event with a big impact the day after halloween. The event (named grade A after our upstate events) saw Kev Brown,El Da Sensei,DJ Eclipse,Copperpot, Sucio Smash, DJ Kitsune and so much more rocking on two floors. It was hosted by Pack FM.All in all, putting on an event in NYC was a gutsy experience, we'll have to rethink it next year. The Rap Attack dinner was also dope. Big up to Skull,Morgan,K-Sly,Nes for making it possible. It was really good to build with and meet a lot of the people there.
Radio Show - The show has been increasingly getting better. With almost 7 years under its belt, The World Famous Live and Direct show is still going strong. With that said, we still havent touched the realm of Laffy Taffy etc. and I'm so grateful for that. I can't thank promoters and record labels enough for continuously sending quality product through to the station. (Interscope and Jive you have to step it up though, I haven't seen anything from you guys in a while).

J.Dilla - Feb 10,06 we lost him. What was really dope was to see the support from so many people. It truly was and is incredible. He definately changed lives and we won't forget him"...

DJ B-Mello (KEXP-Seattle): "I have so many memorable moments this year. One was of course winning the award in the Dominican Republic at The Power Summit, but that same night I felt so lucky because at the end of Federation's performance somebody threw a mic into the air and I looked up as it hit a chandelier and a piece of glass came down & hit me right under my eye. I was thinking how lucky I was to walk away without a scratch on me.

Getting lots of press and recognition such as the article in Seattle Sound Magazine, Seaspot.com and being featured as an Official Myspace.com DJ of the week were exciting.

Another moment was making the leap to satellite radio. It started by getting to spin on Sirius' Shade 45 on the Rep Yo Set show. I really tried to play local artists from Seattle and the Northwest and hearing it being broadcast and getting texts, e-mails, and calls from people who listened was great. Then we got the Shadyville Radio slot on G-Unit Saturdays on Shade 45. Being blessed to be down with so many great affiliations such as Core DJs, Rap Attack Panel, NRC, Shadyville DJs, and The 1200 Squad. Last, but not least getting put down with the AllHipHop.com All Star DJs. When they told me some of the names of the other DJs I was just amazed. It was a good year for me personally and I feel like it's helping get Seattle back on the Hip-Hop map. I feel like the biggest thing out of Seattle since Sir Mix-A-Lot and Nasty Nes! Wait till 2007!"...

Witnes (KPFT-Houston): "This year’s most shocking moment was when I found out J Dilla passed. When it was officially stated, I was speechless. One of the best producers that kept Hip-Hop beats fresh and innovative. He had his own signature sound and simple lyrics that would naturally make you head nod! I'll miss him and will always be touched by his talent and Detroit sound. "Get up stand up throw f'n hands up" R.I.P. J DILLA"...

G-Fresh (WAIF-Cincinatti): "Nas album titled "Hip-Hop Is Dead" stirring controversy and my interview with the Pioneer Doug E Fresh! RALO...

Lokash (WNHU-CT): "My most memorable Hip-Hop moment in 2006 would have to be the passing of J Dilla. It's crazy because even though it happened in February it still feels like a fresh wound. In any event, I had a lot of good times this year, espeically at CMJ. I'm really glad I got to link up with Nasty-Nes and share some of those experiences with him & the Rap Attack DJ's"...

Splif (Def Jam): "The IDJ College Conferenence held during CMJ week in New York and rollin' on  the HBCU College Tour with our artists, Megan Rochell, Shareefa and Bobby V. Being on the road was one of my greatest learning experiences"...

Skull (YG Entertainment): "Being featured as a "MySpace Featured Artist Of The Week" & on the "MySpace.com DJ's" page featuring my single, "Boom Di Boom di."  Also performing for & meeting some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop like, DJ Bobcat (The Foundation), Tony G. (Original KDAY MixMaster), Spinderella (Salt N Pepa), K-Sly, Lucky Lou & his Global Record Pool DJ's, DJ Jam (Snoop Dogg's DJ), Skee (The Game's Official DJ) and The Rap Attack DJ's at New York's R&R Club. Yeah, thanks I really appreciate you" http://www.myspace.com/skullriddim...
