THE GREATEST MAN ALIVE!?  Hey it's Tampa, FL's, Sandman reppin' our Mixtape panel for the 2007!

SOMEWHERE IN NEW YORK  (l-r): DJ's LoKash, Nasty-Nes, Technic, Jason-D & Crazy Ase!

[[  January 22, 2007  ]]

What's upper?

Last week was a great week as I enjoyed watching the season six premier of American Idol & seeing that my hometown of Seattle really has NO idols, I also saw Justin Timberlake in the mtion picture, "Alpha Dog!" That is an intense & a great movie worth paying $10.25 to see and The Colts & Bears are headin' to Superbowl 41 on Sunday, February 4th!...

Breaking new last week in the MixTape industry as DJ Drama and DJ Cannon were arrested and their Aphilliates label offices were shut down. RIIA along with local Atlanta authorities raided the offices, and took dozens of workers into custody as well as an estimated 50,000 CDs. WHAT NOW?: The recording industry made it crystal clear they’re stepping up their efforts to shut down the mixtape game. It appears to be the RIAA is holding mixtapes and mixtape DJs partially accountable for the sluggish sales that have overcome the record industry. One thing is for sure, the arrest of DJ Drama and Don Cannon is just the beginning of the mixtape crackdown that has beginning to explode. DJ Drama and Don Cannon were released from an Atlanta jail  after posting bond on racketeering charges. The famed mixtape kingpin informed us he's okay and thanks his many fans for their continued support. Later on that night, Drama got together with the rest of his Aphiliates family which included DJ Sense, artist Willie Da Kid and La the Darkman at an undisclosed location in Buckhead, Atlanta. NOW WHAT?: DJ Drama started his real fight against the RIAA the moment he was released from jail yesterday. While Dram and Cannon prepare themselves for the fight of their lives, why aren't the labels, artists, and various retailers who benefit from the famed Gangsta Grillz mixtapes also not in hot water? It'll be interesting to see which rappers - the same ones who probably salivated over having their own Gangsta Grillz mixtape - will come to the Aphiliates defense...

Dave Paul from The Bomb Hip-Hop is now over at Look Records in San Francisco. Their next release is by Detroits Phat Kat. The 12" single Cold Steel (feat Elzhi & J Dilla) ships in Feb and the album Carte Blanche cones out April 3rd. For the hookup email Dave at: dave@lookrecords.com...

The heat just keeps coming with "Grow Up," from Florida based MC Butta Verses. You may remember Butta from his cameo appearance on De La Soul's "No," off of the "Grind Date" LP. Butta has also toured extensively with DeLa Soul and used to be signed to Maseo's Bear Mountain Entertainment. This soulful single features production by Seattle's Vitamin D. Grab the Bean One produced bonus cuts "Day To Day" and "Work" on the site. For more info, visit http://www.myspace.com/buttaverses...

Peep out the group Original Sin "Mad At The South" (TakeOver Records). This kat gives props to the South & worth showing some love to. Hit up Chris Roker for copies at: chrisroker@spindoctorspromogroup.com or call: (818) 886-3299...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Solo (WECI-IN): "I got hit with the virus bombin' Indiana hard. If you watch tv, then you know my hometown is now officially on the map.
"Armed and Famous" was filmed in Muncie, In home of all my fam., My cuz J. Lee told me he saw them and knows some people
profiled on there. MC Serch is bakin wack rappers... This is my favorite show on tv, simply because it reps the roots of Hip-Hop. If the kidz
crack under pressure, he tells them to "STEP OFF!!!"...

Dundee (KBLA-CA): "Please let the labels know that we are a cd only station"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-Salinas): "It's another beautiful day in Cali. Sun is shining, skies are clear and I'm celebrating another year. Thanks to those who reached out and wished me well on my birthday.
For those of you who asked, there is finally a way for you to hear my show online. Here's the deal. If you have Yahoo or MSN messenger, you can view the webcam which also carries the audio. Look for us online under the screen name thewednesdaywreck at either yahoo or hotmail. The webcam is up and running from
6pm - 8pm west coast / 9pm - 11pm east coast"...

Adam Lowenstein (WMHB-ME): "Hope everyone's doing well and staying warm--I'm definitely not, at least not right now with temps in the negative digits early this morning. Other than that though, all is well! Let me know if you need anything, and don't forget our playlists are posted at wmhbhiphop.blogspot.com...

Stuart de la Rosa (KSMT-CO): "What's the word my fellow human being? Just knocking back some chart action for the one and only Rhtyhm Lounge Basement Beats on KSMT. This week on my show, I got an exceptional amount of calls telling me that me show stomps out the competitors. So as a special thank you to my listeners I broke down The NAsty PrEmier remix. I took the instrumental to "Take it Personal" (Gangstarr) and threw the new Nas acappela over it from his latest album, shit was incrediable!! My peeps didn't even know what to say other than "dope" So with that happy note I am going to bid you adu (spelling??) and will catch up with you next week with the latest and greatest........................D.I.T.C for Life..........peace"...

EARTHQUAKE (LIVE365.COM): "Since the Seahawks lost I have 32 days until Nascar gets going with the Daytona 500. Where my fellow Nascar fans at? R.I.P. to Benny Parsons and Bobby Hamilton Sr. The Nascar community lost two people in the last 10 days to cancer"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "The big story here is the horrific ice storm that pounded the Midwest coming to town. You’d be surprised at how little fun ½ an inch of ice pellets makes driving. I also enjoyed trying to defrost the ice sculpture that my car became. I think I would have had an easier time cutting a dinosaur fossil out of a pre-historic rock.

People need to realize that Christmas is over. As I drive to work, I still see wreaths on people’s doors and decorations on their lawns. At work, I still see Christmas cards tacked up on people’s walls. If people like the holidays so much, maybe I’ll stop at one of these houses one night and egg/toilet paper the shit out of it. Happy Halloween muthafucka.

Although I love Common’s “I Have a Dream” song, I can’t help but feel reminded of something when I see the ads for the movie that the song appears in, “Freedom Writers”. I know it sounds funny, but I have this nagging feeling that Hollywood once made a film about an optimistic “outside the box” educator who believed in troubled youth when no one else would. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure the name of the film was “The Principal who taught Dangerous Minds to Stand and Deliver while they Lean On Me.” Nah...I must be trippin’. There’s no way Hollywood would put out the same movie twice. They wouldn’t stoop to recycled ideas when they churn out quality scripts like Stomp the Yard.

Fuck Ladanian Tomlinson. I’m not even a Pats fan, but when a team comes in and beats you on your home field, be an MVP and not a little bitch. So the Pats did a dance on your logo. Big deal. I guess its okay when Shawne “Steroids” Merriman does the same dance to rub a good play in an opponents face. Sorry sports, fans, the real “LT” is Lawrence Taylor, not Ladanian Toddler"...
