What Bum Squad is all about:
The Bum Squad is a University of Premiere DJs , who takes pride in mentoring up and coming DJs.

The Bum Squad DJ's, founded 5 years ago by Latin Prince (UNIVERSAL/MOTOWN National Director of Urban Mix Show) is a family of DJ's that work as one unit to break new artist's and create a visual aesthetic utilizing it's formidable brand influence. Bum Squad DJ's, as a collective, are about breaking new music, and sharing that music with DJ's and consumers worldwide. As the #1 DJ Network Site on the web, www.bumsquaddjz.com garnered over 6 million visits in 2006.The New Music Studio Reloaded portion of the site was created as a vehicle to share their vision with the rest of the world.

The Bum Squad DJ's Annual Family Reunion was created as an opportunity for the DJ's, Industry Leaders and Artists to get together in an intimate atmosphere and share what each has to offer one another by showcasing, new act's, new music, new products and creating new ventures in a family type environment. Last years family reunion was one of a kind. With a great show of major label participation, the weekend gave way to great opportunities for all involved.

The First Annual Bum Squad DJ's Family reunion played host to over 200 of the worlds best DJ's who came together to catch up on what's hot in music's ever-growing backyard. From first looks at new music, clothing, equipment and the latest industry trends the reunion was an opportunity for those who rock the party, to get an up close and personal look at things that make the party hot. Black Wall Street recording artist, The Game made a special surprise appearance to personally deliver his new single to the DJ's. Interscope Records hosted a mansion party where they featured Bone Thugs & Harmony, Snoop Dogg and introduced a fresh young Jibbs to the DJ's. Universal/Motown got the party started with a poolside reception with DJ Shadow on the one's and two's while TVT, Warner Bros. and Atlantic Records also hosted events presenting their respective client rosters. The DJ's were also treated to workshops on anything from finance to how to operate the latest DJ technology in between all the fun.

The 2nd Annual Bum Squad DJ's Family reunion promises to be more fun-filled and informative than the first. This year the Bum Squad will be joined by their official sister squad The Rated X Vixens. The Rated X Vixens are comprised of some of the best DJ's, Air Personalities, Artists and Professionals holding it down for the ladies in entertainment ( www.myspace.com/ratedxvixens). The Vixens bring added value to the table by covering even more territory with our already extensive reach as a DJ collective.

After 14 years in the game with Mobb Deep, producer/rapper Havoc is finally dropping his early-anticipated solo debut, "The Kush," on indie label, Nature Sounds. Due to a hectic work schedule as one half of Mobb Deep, Havoc never has released a solo record, but he always wanted to, says the rapper. His work as a producer and half of a platinum plus group kept that dream on the backburner for quite some time. "I was always ready to drop a solo album, but the reason why it took me so long is because the timing wasn't right," explains Havoc. "I was always working on Mobb Deep material and working with other artists and I used a lot of the material I was going to use for a solo LP for Mobb Deep records." That all changes in September, the month "The Kush" drops"...

This is probably one of the most important articles you will read. Major props to DJ Pro Fusion for articulating such a complex issue in such digestible terms. I for one have felt like I was spitting in the wind trying to explain what's been going on only to have people be dismissive or have their eyes glaze over because it wasn't about a beef between two rap artists or about the sexual exploits of some video vixen. Others have straight up told me they don't get into politics. Unfortunately politics is getting into you whether you like it or not. Please read this article and you will see what I mean.
Others have told me fuck commercial Hip Hop they rep for the underground..Well that may be true, but the underground has just got sold to the RIAA.. please read this article and you will better understand..

The level of insidiousness is outlandish and for many it's really hard to believe, but as Pro fusion shows its really going down in the worse way...Please read this and keep in mind there are a whole lot of people doing things in our name who DO NOT have our best interest at heart. I hope and pray that those you reading this will not only pass this article along for others to read, but will also take time out and act upon it. Please make sure your voices are heard..

Is the RIAA Pulling a Scam on the Music Industry?
by DJ ProFusion
The Internet radio game is rigged and the Recording Industry Association of
America (RIAA) has rigged it in their favor.

DJ ProFusion's diary :: ::

There has been an understandable public outcry against the RIAA’s attempts to more than triple the sound recording copyright royalties on Internet radio. (See Save Internet Radio from Corporate Money Grab) One solution proposed by Webcasters is to just not play RIAA-member songs under the assumption that then they don’t have to pay the royalty to the RIAA’s collection body, SoundExchange; Webcasters would then just pay the independent artist the royalty.

This sounds fair and just because it is. However, the RIAA is not about being fair and just. The game is rigged and the RIAA has rigged it in their favor. The strategy of playing only non-RIAA songs won't work though because the RIAA has secured the right to collect royalties on all songs regardless of who controls the copyright. RIAA operates under the assumption that they will collect the royalties for the "sound recording copyright" and that the artists who own their own copyright will go to SoundExchange to collect at a later date.

Look at the information on SoundExchange.com (RIAA created SoundExchange) and see how it works. The RIAA has secured legal authority to administer a compulsory license that covers all recorded music.

"The recent
U.S. Copyright Office ruling regarding webcasting designated SoundExchange to collect and distribute to all nonmembers as well as its members. The Librarian of Congress issued this decision with rates and terms to govern the compulsory license for webcasters (Internet-only radio) and simulcastors (retransmissions)." ( http://soundexchange.com/faq.html#b4 )

"SRCOs (sound recording copyright owners) are subject to a compulsory license for the use of their music...SoundExchange was established to administer the collection and distribution of royalties from such compulsory licenses taken by noninteractive streaming services that use satellite, cable or Internet methods of distribution."

SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio. Artists can offer to download their music for free, but they cannot offer their songs to Internet radio for free. (
http://soundexchange.com/faq.html#a7 )

So how it works is that SoundExchange collects money through compulsory royalties from Webcasters and holds onto the money. If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they must become a member of SoundExchange and pay a fee to collect their royalties (
http://soundexchange.com/faq.html#b6 ). But, and this is a big "but," you only get royalties if you own the sound recording copyright. If you are signed to a major label, chances are you don’t. Even if you do own the copyright to your own recording of your own song, SoundExchange will collect Internet radio royalties for your song even if you don’t want them to do so.

Go to the SoundExchange site: http://plays.soundexchange.com/... and take a look at the hundreds of indie labels for whom SoundExchange claims they have collected royalties. Enter some of those label names on http://www.riaaradar.com/... and notice how few are actually members of the RIAA. Contact the label and ask if they are a member of RIAA and they almost certainly aren’t and may not even be aware that SoundExchange is collecting royalty fees on their music.

And what exactly is SoundExchange doing with the money they have collected for those hundreds of labels that must have thousands of songs???

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "Just wanted to let you know to peep out the new Raekwon feat. Ice Water & Remy Ma “Tell Me how You like It” – That joint is fire! Hey whats up with Remy Ma? It looks like she wont be walking around any more metal detectors… She’ll probably be leaning back in jail this winter season…Why does Hip-Hop Have to be this way? You would figure that after such success people would try to relax and enjoy the ride. While these cats were never role models, you’d just expect SOME change. In the number 1 SLOT, Check out BANGLOOSE. “Grey Goose”. Bangloose features the sample “Grey Goose Got ya Girl Feelin Loose” from Fergie. The track is picking up some momentum in the club so watch out for that one if you haven’t heard it yet! Also, the new joint “Swagga Jacka Smacka” by THE BRAIN, that Nes sent out last week is dope! Just a few notes for ya! If you guys don’t have any of these tracks, be sure to holla @ Me! dtragic@805hiphop.com"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "Now it's been a minute since I "vented" on something but it's about that time again. As someone who struggles for time on Wednesday mornings to put together the weekly report, I tend to rely sometimes on "Quickpix" as many of other djs do to know what is going for adds each week. Labels also rely on "Quickpix" as a resource to spread the word to dj's they didn't necessarily connect with that week. But why is it that "Quickpix" is more often than not updated until late in the day on Wednesday? The whole premise of it is to make things consolidated for the dj's and not have to go through 30 - 50 promo emails.

Does it even matter that Remy Ma-derer might catch a case? As soon as she hits Cell Block, I think "Lean Back" will take on a whole new meaning. On second tought, I might be interested to see how "things" go down, if you catch my drift. LOL.

It's funny to me that Barry Bonds is knockin' on the door of the most prestigious record in Baseball and no one gives a shit. He really shot himself in the foot.

I guess I'm too old or out of the loop but why am I still getting these alerts about the murder of Stack Bundles or the arrest of the whoever they thought did it. Who was this guy and why is he in my world? It's as bad as the endless Paris Hilton shit on tv. I DON'T CARE!!!
3 months until I return to NYC. As the GZA once said, "bring out the girls and let's have a mudfight"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "t trip to the big city of Denver. It’s a great city to visit and I noticed no ill effects from the allegedly thin air. The weirdest thing I did find was that they have old timey blue laws still on the books were they can only sell beer in grocery stores that is half as potent as the beer sold in liquor stores. Not sure what the logic is there, because who in their right mind would pay the same price for beer that is 2%-3% by volume? Of course my flights home were the usual disaster as I had to sprint hung over to my first plane and then wait at bombed out JFK airport for my second plane which was over an hour late. Sometimes airports are an oasis from the big city griminess, but not JFK. From the ripped up seats to the surly employees, this was indeed the real NYC experience. Now if the hallways were just pissed in…

One thing that I keep seeing that really grates on my nerves is people thinking that they can just start eating things at the grocery store in their basket or from the aisle before they have paid. In Denver I saw some guy eating freely right out of a big bin of chocolate covered pretzels. Then he turns to me and says with a smirk, “Guess I picked the wrong line to stand in,” as if the fatty candy was doing him a disservice. As I glared back at him, I thought; “I’ve got an idea to keep the weight off, buddy: Don’t fucking steal at the grocery store.” You dickhead.

I’m relieved to see that Remy Ma has done us all a favor and supposedly committed some atrocious shooting that will probably lock her up for the better part of the next decade. Her absence will leave a huge hole in the industry though, just like those left by imprisoned rappers Z-Ro, C-Murder, Black Rob, Chi Ali, John Forte, Big Lurch, Flesh-N-Bone, Tray Dee, Gucci Mane, South Park Mexican, Mystikal and Turk. I guess the Terror Squad isn’t looking too bad now, huh? Nor is Michael Vick. At least he only tried to kill animals"...
