What's
upper? Last weeks' Bum Squad Conference
was off tha hook. Big ups to Latin Prince (see
photo above) & his posse, Octavia, Derick
& the Bums for puttin' on another well attended
conference. The highlight for me was attending their
advance screening of Jackie Chan & Chris
Tucker's "Rush Hour 3" (New Line Cinema).
It was great seeing the two together on the big screen
cuz they've got that chemistry. The movie will keep you
laughing, you'll enjoy the action scenes & watching the
beautiful sites in
Paris is a plus too. "Rush Hour 3" can't touch 1 or 2 but you will
enjoy 3 if you're a RUSH fan!...

Northwest Hip Hop Parade Troop
Presented by 206 Zulu - Universal Zulu Nation Seattle
On Saturday, August 4th, 2007 witness history in the
making as hundreds of people within the Northwest Hip
Hop community gather to participate in the first-ever
Northwest Hip Hop Parade Troop. This parade troop,
presented by 206 Zulu, the
Seattle
chapter of the Hip Hop organization, Universal Zulu
Nation, will debut at the Umoja Fest, the
Northwest's largest and longest-lasting African Heritage
Festival & Parade.
The Northwest Hip Hop Parade Troop aims to showcase the
rich and diverse Hip Hop community to the public while
dispelling the misperceptions that Hip Hop often
receives, due to negative press and its portrayal in the
mainstream media outlets. King Khazm, the 206
Zulu Chapter Leader notes that "Hip Hop has always been
a way for people to make something positive from a
negative. It is rooted from a necessity to make change
and has been the foundation to uplift and empower
millions of people around the world. This is a time for
Seattle Hip Hop to stand together and show the people
what we stand for: Peace, Love, Unity and Having Fun!"
Furthermore, because of the international impact Hip Hop
culture has on the youth, it has become a universal
culture that transcends the boundaries of race, age,
beliefs, social status, gender, locality and continues
to be a vital component for self-expression, finding
identity, and education. Within Hip Hop culture, there
are four main elements of expression - Deejaying,
Emceeing, B-Boying/B-Girling (aka Breakdancing) and
Graffiti Artistry.
To represent these four elements, the Hip Hop Parade
Troop will showcase a float with Graffiti artwork, live
performances by Deejays, Emcees, B-boys & B-girls, and a
People's March featuring many influential Seattle Hip
Hoppers. The Umoja Fest will also feature drill teams,
African drum & dance, masquerades, floats, youth groups
and other community organizations to continue with the
tradition of the "Seattle Mardi Gras Parade" that began
over 50 years ago. The parade will begin at 1pm on 23rd
Avenue & Union and travel south on 23rd to the festival
grounds located at Judkins Park.
If you are a practitioner or a supporter of Hip Hop and
would like to march or become involved with this
monumental event, please contact project coordinator
Kitty Wu at
kwu@wickedx.net or log onto
www.206zulu.com for more information. For

The Freshest New Faces Uploaded And Discovered
ReverbNation.com has announced plans for a ten-city
Showcase Series in partnership with digital distribution
powerhouse SNOCAP. The Showcase Series, named the
ReverbNation “New Blood” Urban Showcase Series, will
span 10 cities and feature the top unsigned urban
artists from each market performing in front of A&R
Representatives from Bad Boy Entertainment, Rawkus
Records, UnAuthorized/Asylum and Imperial Records.
The “New Blood” Urban Showcase Series kicks off on
August 12th in
Denver
at Club Feel before moving on to Houston on August 25th.
The series will run through March 2008.
Each showcase event will be co-produced by a local urban
music event/concert promoter. Potential showcasing
artists will be screened and selected through a music
submission process administered by ReverbNation and
SnoCap along with A&R representatives from the
participating labels and input from the local promoters.
Aspiring artists and producers are encouraged to visit
www.ReverbNation.com for showcase consideration.
Submission guidelines and other details are also
available. The submission period will vary according to
the Showcase schedule. Exact showcase dates and
locations will be announced on the ReverbNation Web site
and various news sites as they become available. The
entire Showcase Series will run through spring 2008.
“ReverbNation has emerged as one of the premier
independent music resources on the web,” said Bad Boy
Entertainment A&R executive Conrad DiManche”, who will
attend the
Houston
showcase. “There are plenty of worthy artists out there
that never get the chance to shine. ReverbNation’s focus
on tracking the activities of independent, underground
and developing artists provides me early insight into
artists that may become relevant in a given market.”
10-12 artists will be selected from the ReverbNation
website to perform at each Showcase Event, with each
being allotted 8 minutes to perform. An A&R
representative will be flown from New York City to each
of the 10 nationwide showcases.
Announced host cities for the ReverbNation “New Blood”
Urban Showcase Series include
Denver,
Houston, Cleveland, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago, San Diego,
Detroit, Atlanta and Minneapolis. Dates and cities are
subject to change..
Go to
www.ReverbNation.com for more details,
submission information and rules.
“The music business has changed radically in the past
few years as it relates to promotion, distribution and
consumer expectations”, according to Scott Egbert, VP
Artist Relations for ReverbNation. “Despite the fact
that the playing field has been leveled considerably in
these areas, quality live performance continues to be
critical to the development of artists, their fanbases
and ultimately their careers. The New Blood Series was
created to provide these deserving artists a chance to
showcase their talents at very early stages of their
development.”
ABOUT REVERBNATION.COM
ReverbNation provides the innovative marketing solutions
that musicians need to compete, cooperate, and
differentiate in an increasingly noisy online
environment. Unlike typical “closed” communities,
artists use ReverbNation as their home base for
approaching marketing and promotion across the Internet
as a whole - be it via social networks, blogs, or the
artist’s homepage. Tools like TunePaks, FanReach,
Widgets, and Street Team give the artist the power to
spread their music and information virtually anywhere.
Real-time stats then provide a 360-degree view of how
the music is spreading, who is listening, and which fans
are actually passing it on to their friends and posting
it on their pages. For more information on

Tess
(WUML-MA): "Shout outs to DC, Ape Shit
and Unducati who cam down last week to
promote the new Trapjaw Affiliates album. Another
shout to Los Wunder Twins del Rap who also came
down to promote their new single and EP "We are a Super
Group"
Ego Trippin' Pt. 2 with Jim Tess and Jimmy
Sprinkles, Sundays 9-midnight...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"I don't
know who these people are who waited in line half the
night Friday to buy the Harry Potter book, but we
ought to put them on a space ship with the people who
camped out for the iPhone and blast it into the
fucking sun.
One of
my favorite news stories of the week was that of
Ralph Papitto, who up until recently was Chairman
of the Board at Roger Williams University.
Papitto stepped down recently, after using the "N" word
during a May board meeting to describe minority
candidates. Papitto is 80 years old and claims that
he has never used the word in his life. “The
first time I heard it was on television and then rap
music or something,” he commented. Hmmm Ralph, I'm 27
years old, but I seem to recall being familiarized with
the word around grade school age. And even at that young
age I was well aware of the word's harshly negative
connotations. And don't blame rap music you coward. This
guy probably owned slaves!
27 may
not seem that old, but I sure felt my age as I was
flipping through the channels the other day. Landing on
"Wildin' Out" on MTV, I was pleased to see
Nick Cannon close the show by introducing the
guest performer Big Daddy Kane. I was interested
to see if BDK still had it, and he energetically leapt
to the stage and flowed as flawlessly as ever. What was
funny was the blank and bewildered looks of the 17-20
year old people in the crowd, nodding their heads
politely, who didn’t know Kane from Chuck D. They
probably thought he was Arsenio Hall or Dwayne
Wayne...
“Finding
Forever”? Try “Missing The Mark”. I just finished
listening to my promo copy of Common's latest
opus and I was less than thrilled. I was hoping for the
sequel to "Be" and instead I feel like I got the mutant
twin of "Electric Circus". Listening to the album makes
me want to tuck my balls between my legs like Buffalo
Bill in "Silence of the Lambs". Common is eloquent
as always on the disc, but his topics rarely stray from
the fairer sex. I was hoping for more soulful energetic
music, not a pussywhipped snoozefest. Horrific hooks
pollute the album, as do cheesy ad-libs. Kanye
phones it in for half the LP (saving all the good beats
for "Graduation" perhaps)? On top of it, Geffen
fell into the trap of releasing the best two songs from
the album on the same lead 12". Save the uniquely funky
"Southside" and the sultry, somber gem "Misunderstood",
there is not much left to get excited about. The lack of
effort shows most strongly on the attempt to resurrect
J. Dilla on the reworked "So Far To Go", which
already served a healthy heap of disappointment when it
originally appeared on "The Shining". Ditto the syllable
bending tripe on "Break My Heart" which is eons below
Com's literary level. Sorry Common - I'm still a fan,
but you've now returned to the shelf with Canibus,
Ras Kass and Styles P. They’re incredible
MCs who can't make consistently good albums"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.Org): "Shouts out this week to DJ
Savvy at KSJS for letting Kazzeo and I
come thru to crash the show. We chopped it up about the
upcoming CMJ in NY and aired out a Jason D
mix for the Bay. She did make me read some show promo
about Penguin's. Not really sure what that's about but
had me uncomfortable in a Michael Vick kind of
way. Haha. We had a good time though and hit em with a
bunch of new music. That's one thing I really love about
college radio is that we can all just kick it. A lot of
these commercial dj's really believe in their own hype
and get caught up in competing stations. It's always
been about the music for me and it was cool to see
another station putting it down"...
Damian Rodriguez
(KGNU-CO): "****READ ME!!! For those of
you been down w/sending dope records over the years, I
have a special treat for you, I got a good good quality
version of TRANSFORMERS on the low. For those of
you who are die hards like me n cant wait til the real
dvd comes (which we will all go buy n support
right..ahem…) this is my gift back to you. If you know
how to download using torrents, I’ll give you the 411 so
you can download it yourself. If you have no clue what
torrents are, send me your addy’s, and I’ll hook you up.
Fyi, it wont play on super cheapo dvd players n combo
units. As long as your dvd plays all media forms, it’ll
work n not be a coaster…
Ghetto highlight of the week #1:
Friend
went to court for traffic no license violation, and its
in a county where it’s a lil more ghetto w/ the folks
livin there causin shit. Anyway, its 5min b4 the courts
in session, no baliff, no judge, and 2 dudes are there.
1 asks arent you that rapper ____ blah blah? He said
yeah. 1st dude then tells him “your shit’s
weak”. These 2 started boxing in the court w/ witnesses,
but no bailiff, judge, or anyone to officially put them
in more deep shit. The chase continued after court, when
they left outside.
Moral:You’re
ghetto when you didn’t hear the song Don’t mess w/ the
madd rapper even if he is weak n cant spit for @#%$
(most local dudes here…exactly that, just local are
weak….you get the idea). Even got more balls when you
decide to box the madd rapper in the courtroom.
Ghetto highlight #2:
My sons mom, (aka babymomma) is a nurse. And a guy came
in w/ a swollen...testicle the size of melon. He didn't
put the robe on, he just got nekkid n asked questions
about his lil "condition"...lil somethin special from a
3 some that's now a nasty 4 some. He actually tried
hitting on her, the nurse, nekkid w/ a swollen left nut.
Moral:
You're really nasty ghetto when you go in for an STD
problem, & think hitting on both the female doctor &
nurse is actually gonna work. At least go in for a
physical w/ no problems if your gonna put some game on
the medical staff"...
Raw-B
(KUSF-SF): "What up Folks! Things were crackin
