Last Sunday night was a Flashback treat for me as The Calloway Brothers aka Midnight Star performed a live set featuring all their hits they sang & wrote! The place to be was at Stevie's Creole & Cafe here in Encino, Cali. Both Vincent & Reggie Calloway and their band laced the crowd with their biggest Midnight Star hits from "No Parking On The Dance Floor," "Wet My Whistle," "Electricity," "Operator," "Slow Jams (one of my all time fav love jam) & the track that put them on the map, "Freak-A-Zoid!" They also performed the classic track they wrote for Levert, "Casanova" and Gladys Knight's Grammy single, "Love Overboard." One of the evenings highlight was when Bobby Brown jumped on stage & sang "I Want To Be Rich" with the Calloways! That was soooo DOPE! Heads ranging from their 20's to their 70's were all throwin' their hands in the air & grinding to the live music. If The Calloway Brothers- Midnight Star ever hits your part of town, it is a MUST SEE show. It'll definitely make you old schoolers feel young again!...

RAP ATTACK welcomes to their lastest CONFERENCE CALL POSSE: DJ Fresh (KPSU-Portland), DJ Savvy (KSJS-San Jose) & DJ Sonic (SIRIUS-NY). We'd like to thank Chuck-D from Public Enemy for taking time out on our call last Thursday & sharing great memories from the beginning days of PE to now!...

The Freshest New Faces Uploaded And Discovered
ReverbNation.com has announced plans for a ten-city Showcase Series in partnership with digital distribution powerhouse SNOCAP. The Showcase Series, named the ReverbNation “New Blood” Urban Showcase Series, will span 10 cities and feature the top unsigned urban artists from each market performing in front of A&R Representatives from Bad Boy Entertainment, Rawkus Records, UnAuthorized/Asylum and Imperial Records.

The “New Blood” Urban Showcase Series kicks off on August 12th in Denver at Club Feel before moving on to Houston on August 25th. The series will run through March 2008.

Each showcase event will be co-produced by a local urban music event/concert promoter. Potential showcasing artists will be screened and selected through a music submission process administered by ReverbNation and SnoCap along with A&R representatives from the participating labels and input from the local promoters. Aspiring artists and producers are encouraged to visit www.ReverbNation.com  for showcase consideration. Submission guidelines and other details are also available. The submission period will vary according to the Showcase schedule. Exact showcase dates and locations will be announced on the ReverbNation Web site and various news sites as they become available. The entire Showcase Series will run through spring 2008.

“ReverbNation has emerged as one of the premier independent music resources on the web,” said Bad Boy Entertainment A&R executive Conrad DiManche”, who will attend the
Houston showcase. “There are plenty of worthy artists out there that never get the chance to shine. ReverbNation’s focus on tracking the activities of independent, underground and developing artists provides me early insight into artists that may become relevant in a given market.”

10-12 artists will be selected from the ReverbNation website to perform at each Showcase Event, with each being allotted 8 minutes to perform. An A&R representative will be flown from New York City to each of the 10 nationwide showcases.

Announced host cities for the ReverbNation “New Blood” Urban Showcase Series include
Denver, Houston, Cleveland, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago, San Diego, Detroit, Atlanta and Minneapolis. Dates and cities are subject to change..

Go to www.ReverbNation.com  for more details, submission information and rules.

“The music business has changed radically in the past few years as it relates to promotion, distribution and consumer expectations”, according to Scott Egbert, VP Artist Relations for ReverbNation. “Despite the fact that the playing field has been leveled considerably in these areas, quality live performance continues to be critical to the development of artists, their fanbases and ultimately their careers. The New Blood Series was created to provide these deserving artists a chance to showcase their talents at very early stages of their development.”

ABOUT REVERBNATION.COM
ReverbNation provides the innovative marketing solutions that musicians need to compete, cooperate, and differentiate in an increasingly noisy online environment. Unlike typical “closed” communities, artists use ReverbNation as their home base for approaching marketing and promotion across the Internet as a whole - be it via social networks, blogs, or the artist’s homepage. Tools like TunePaks, FanReach, Widgets, and Street Team give the artist the power to spread their music and information virtually anywhere. Real-time stats then provide a 360-degree view of how the music is spreading, who is listening, and which fans are actually passing it on to their friends and posting it on their pages. For more information on ReverbNation.com, please visit www.ReverbNation.com or call 212-367-0826.

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Papa-D (WRBB-Boston): "Peace everybody....Papa D here, fresh off a plane from Seattle....I got to see the Red Sox win 2 out of 3 against the Mariners, which was dope....I also got to check out the dope Experience Music Project museum where they had a special exhibit on the first ten years of Hip-Hop complete with stage clothes from DMC, Busy Bee and more, and other classic materials....and the Northwest music hall there had a dope section on Hip-Hop with a big ol picture of Nasty Nes.....peace to Nastymix Records! Anyway, check out www.papadpromo.com for a dope new Raheem Jamal song from the 'Boombox' album called "The Thang"...

Ahan "The Golden Child" (WRSU-NJ): "Just to update you I'm still doing my show, I just found out today that the Mailbox Etc/UPS store where I had my mail going closed down. I wanted to know if you can let any record reps who might of received any return mail from me in the past, that they can resend to the following address, this also be our new address going forward:

The Blueprint Radio c/o D-Media Group, Inc.

 601 Route 206, Suite 26 #457

Hillsborough, NJ 08844

Attn: Ahsan "The Golden Child"

The rest of my contact is:

 email: ahsangc@theblueprintradio.com

myspace: www.myspace.com/theblueprintradio

phone: 908-531-3280

We still broadcast 10 PM - MID every Wednesday on 88.7 WRSU FM"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "One of my least favorite things about summer is how the Highway Department just rips up miles of road and then repairs it at a fraction of the pace that they destroyed it. I really enjoy driving over blown up roads while they painstakingly pave 10 feet a day. The only thing that would be better is if they hit a pipe and flooded the road with sewage. Great planning.

So we’re pretty stoked here in New England to have acquired Eric Gagne from Texas. I think more than we’re happy to have Gagne, we’re happier that the Yankees don’t have him. Truth be told, we general don’t care for overweight grease-ball haired pitchers with weird glasses, but I’m willing to make a concession for another World Series trophy.

I took some heat from my comments about Common’s “Finding Forever” last week. I didn’t say that I loathed the entire album, but I thought that 2 years was a long time to wait for 5 dope and 6 mediocre/awful songs. I think it just reinforces the point that I made a few weeks back that in this world of mp3s, mixtapes, and ring tones, making a stellar album is a thing of the past. Imagine if “Detox” or “Cuban Linx II” came out and only half of it was good?"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "So this week, Bay Area football legend Bill Walsh passed away. Walsh was undoubtedly a genius coach who most often is remembered for his days with the 49'ers. BUT, recognize people. His first NFL job was with the Oakland Raiders in 1966. Just had to throw that out there. In any case though, the guy was a legend. Rest In Peace.
Saw the Simpsons movie this past weekend. I'm a casual fan of the show and have to say, the movie was really funny. You should see it. Speaking of movies, I'm planning on seeing "I Know Who Killed Me" this coming weekend. If you aren't familiar with the movie, the plot i basically Lindsay Lohan playing a stripper who gets abducted and tortured. Sounds like a winner to me. LOL.

2.5 months until I return to NYC. As the GZA once said, "bring out the girls and let's have a mudfight"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "Yeah, yeah.. what's good people? I am a few days away from going on vacation and I'm looking forward to that big time. 2 weeks in the woods of Maine chilling on the lake. I NEED this break trust me. I will have limited access to emails for the first week I'm on vacation so there is a chance no charts will go out next week, but I will do my best to get the charts out like always.

Aight, I recently got the digital cable service and I can't believe I waited this long to get it. I only watched a few shows before I got digital cable, but now I am locked into VH1 Soul, The Military Channel (interesting stuff), and a couple of other channels that play the old movies. Watched Gleaming the Cube a couple of days ago and I was amazed to see Tony Hawk in that movie. I've seen it before, but now that I'm older it's crazy to see Tony Hawk in his younger days. And the videos that VH1 Soul plays never fails to take me back. Some of them videos is comedy though. Some of these cats back in the day wore some wild shit in the videos that they would be caught dead in today. Oh yeah can't forget about the ESPN Classic channel. Old boxing fights, NBA playoff games, and college games. Saw Sweet Pea Whitaker today on a rerun when he was in his prime. Norfolk boy repped hard in the ring"...

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "Just wanted to let you all know I just posted the pics from the BumSquad Reunion (see photo above) on the 805HipHop.Com website! The event wa soff the hook! Be sure to check out the pics"...

The Wonder Twinz (SIRIUS): "Immortal Technique is currently on the road all over the country along with a few other dope emcee’s in his crew…. They are currently on the road as part of the rock the bells tour and they are interested in building with you in regard to radio interviews, magazine write-ups, video show interviews, extra live shows, track features, etc….
