Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Dan
Shores
(WHRW-NY): "Peace and Blessings from CPP
Marketing and Promotion. I'd just like to personally
thank all of the RapAttackLives.com DJ's and
readers for their support with Cymarshall Law's
single "Addiction." Cymarshall Law (see photo above)
has been very busy traveling with the Vans Warped Tour.
The dates for the tour and the upcoming Rawkus 50
show are at myspace.com/cymarshalllaw. Yes yall
Cymarshall Law is one of the Rawkus 50 emcees, please
swing by his myspace page and show him some love
and let him know you saw it on RapAttackLives.com!!!"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.Org):
"Let me start by announcing the re-launch of
www.djjasond.com. The main purpose of the change
up was to simplify the site and create an archive of my
shows. They now stream in MP3 and will play thru itunes
if that's your default mp3 player. Check it out and let
me know what you think. Speaking of shows, I had to
flash it back this week and played mostly mid-90's boom
bap"...
Bri-G
(Mixtape/RPM-New
York): "What up ya’ll. Long time no hear from, I know.
I’m finally done with the Pepsi Superstar DJ
Contest. In case you were wondering, the finalists are:
Atlanta – Infamous
Birmingham – Jukebox
Chicago – Dolla Bill
Cleveland – Spare Change
Detroit – Steady Rock
Los Angeles – Bedz
Miami – Wal Gee
New York – Jack Da Ripper
New Orleans – Lucky
Philadelphia – 187
St. Louis – AJ
Washington D.C. – Jeyone
Well,
as many of you may have noticed, we’re not really
working records at RPM these days. So basically,
instead of putting my priorities up here every week, I’m
gonna throw up some things I think you should hear.
These can be remixes, new records, or just random things
I’ve come across that I want to put people up on. Also,
I don’t care how much J Grand asks me, The
Cupid Shuffle will never make an appearance on this
list.
As
I’ve been on the road for pretty much the entire summer,
I’ve been really out of the loop as far as what’s going
on in our world so my opinions are a little limited
right now. Give me a week though and next Friday I will
be back to put in a little more work.
For
now, I’d like you to watch the footage from our NYC
Pepsi DJ Event hosted by DJ Enuff. I’d like to call this
“Hip Hop’s Last Stand”. This was easily the
single greatest night in my life and to think that I
contributed in any way to put this together still puts a
smile on my face. You will never see a greater lineup of
pure Hip Hop on the stage at one time in your life.
Especially, when nobody's getting a check for it"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA): "Well very humid this week and man was
it humid. Props to Barry Bonds on breaking
Hank Aaron's record. And
for all those people hatin let's put this in
perspective. Babe Ruth's numbers may be a little
tainted because after all the Negro League players
weren't allowed to play in the Majors then right. So I
guess everybody pre-Jackie Robinson has tainted
numbers. No props to Bud Selig for his ho-hum
response when Bonds tied the record. From All-Star games
ending in a tie to Pete Rose to Barry Bonds what
a horrible job.
On another note Common album is good, like
Guru's too. Keep the good music coming. And to all
you people out there stop asking what kind of music I
listen too when I say I don't like a record. You want
honest feedback so I give it. If you don't want honest
feedback don't ask me. I should not have to justify my
opinion if I say I don't like a record AFTER I have
listened to it. I could change my mind sometimes and
sometimes maybe not. I could throw a lot of stuff into
the
Schuylkill
River
on my way to work but I don't, I try to give each record
a chance. Some things work for me some don't, but at the
end of the day it's just my opinion and everybody has
one. So till next week"...
DJ
E-Nygma (WBRS): "It's already August, and
while I'm fresh off a weekend in DC (97 degrees there,
67 degrees in Boston right now... I'm disappointed),
we've got new music, new charts, and fresh gripes, one
of which I will be quickly ranting about in the
following paragraph (feel free to skip, you have been
warned).
I happened to catch the MTV "special"
listing the Top 10 Hottest MCs in the game right now,
and, after getting physically sick while watching, and
feeling an urgent need to pray for Sway's soul
(is this really the same guy who had me sneaking around
tape-recording off a friend's radio so I could stay up
on current episodes of "The Wake Up Show"??? Really???
This same guy is gesticulating for the cameras at the
TRL studios and barely smirking as he raises
the pitch in his voice while talking earnestly about Jim
Jones on a Top 10 list???)... I came to the following
conclusions:
·
Lil'
Wayne
has
fooled an entire generation of idiot savant hip hop
"fans", and has a lot of so-called experts, writers,
cognoscenti, and the like drinking the kool-aid more
efficiently than that other Jim Jones. Really, some of
his stuff is solid, a lot of it is empty pandering and
vacuous wordplay... but c'mon... he's undisputedly the
hottest MC out right now? In 2007? In America, let alone
the entire planet? Really???
·
The
only person to vocally and consistently stand up for
Andre 3000's place on this list is one of the
on-air hosts for MTV Radio??? Out of a panel of
10 people???
·
...and another point: MTV has a radio station???
That plays hip hop???
·
Buttahman,
who used to be a go-to guy as far as supporting local
hip-hop and overlooked/underappreciated MCs and artists
back in the day when he was at 92Q/WERQ in
Baltimore, has given up all semblance of doing anything
that strays from the party line... first, he's actively
championing some cats based on having "ridiculous
swagger"? And he's hosting a show called "Hood Fab" that
cuts into otherwise (read: sometimes) decent blocks of
videos on MTV Jams? Buttah is not really
representing Charm City that nicely at the moment...
Anyway, new music from Camp Lo (Sonny Cheeba
and Geechi Suede are back, so all discussions
of "who have the most swagger" should have ceased
T-minus 20 minutes ago), Tru-Paz, N.O.R.E.,
and more. Fresh Top 30 for you, courtesy of the kind
folk who send us music (some of y'all have swagger...);
grazie, much appreciated.
As always, the complaints department and accounts
payable are one and the same, and can be reached at
djenygma@gmail.com or
hiphop@wbrs.org. I even reply to people
telling me I'm wrong about something I said above (you
and I both know that isn't the case, but my mom taught
me to be polite, so you will get a response"...
Papa-D
(WRBB-Boston): "Peace everybody....Papa D
here, fresh off a plane from Seattle....I got to see the
Red Sox win 2 out of 3 against the Mariners,
which was dope....I also got to check out the dope
Experience Music Project museum where they had a
special exhibit on the first ten years of Hip-Hop
complete with stage clothes from DMC, Busy Bee
and more, and other classic materials....and the
Northwest music hall there had a dope section on Hip-Hop
with a big ol picture of Nasty Nes.....peace to
Nastymix Records! Anyway, check out
www.papadpromo.com for a dope new Raheem
Jamal song from the 'Boombox' album called "The
Thang"...
Ahan
"The
Golden Child" (WRSU-NJ): "Just to update you I'm
still doing my show, I just found out today that the
Mailbox Etc/UPS store where I had my mail going closed
down. I wanted to know if you can let any record reps
who might of received any return mail from me in the
past, that they can resend to the following address,

Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"Pretty slow week for your man as I finally enjoyed some
peace and quiet for the first time in several weeks. I
took in the movie “Sicko” this past weekend. If you
haven’t seen it yet, I’d recommend checking it out
before it bounces from theaters. Still need to catch
“The Simpsons”, but the mixed reviews I keep
hearing make me cautious.
If
you’re looking for some dope background music, I
strongly suggest Evidence’s “Red Tape
Instrumentals”. I copped it on Saturday and it hasn’t
left the car since. My favorite song right now has got
to be Little Brother’s “Good Clothes”.
Especially the part about dudes wearing leather jackets
in hot clubs and chicks with the “muffin tops”.
Hilarity! I’ve attached the mp3 for your listening
enjoyment.
Five
game lead now…how much longer will it be before the
Red Sox complete their inevitable slide and let the
Yanks cruise past? I’d sell Wily Mo Pena’s
soul to the devil to have that 10 game lead back…I
guess it’s almost that time of year when football
recaptures my heart despite the Red Sox’ attempts to
break it. At least “Hell’s Kitchen” never gets
boring"...

"Sorry to be out of touch the last two weeks--I was out
of town for a while and didn't have consistent email
access. I spent part of the time in DC, where it hit
record temps of 103. Glad to be back in Denver for a few
weeks without the humidity, before I head back to school
at the end of month. I'll be back on air beginning
September 6th. I'm still catching up on emails, etc., so
it might be a minute before I can hit everyone back with
feedback on new joints from the last few weeks. Let me
know if you need anything from WMHB! Peace"...
