SKULL MAY BE SILENCED BY MANDATORY MILITARY SERVICE:
David Kim is a 12 year old Korean Boy who lives in Orange County where he and his friends until just a few short months ago would memorize and recite the lyrics of their favorite rap artist, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, or whoever the flava of the month was. Sadly none of these rappers ever had a last name like Kim or Lee. David is one of a multitude of Korean American kids who have had until recently no representative in American Pop Culture.

Now due to a political anachronism, the first and only such representative music icon may be whisked off into obscurity.
At a time when America is still reeling from news of the Virginia Tech massacre, aggressive rhetoric over nukes in N. Korea continues, and the very public humiliation of Korean Pop star, "Rain" in Los Angeles is still fresh in our minds...one solitary Korean voice is heard above the din.
South Korean Reggae artist Skull, has taken the
US market by storm, not by exploiting an Asian American fan base as has been the modus operandi of past failed attempts by Asian artists and record labels looking to impact the US market but rather by courting Urban and Caribbean audiences singing in his own unique interpretation of a Jamaican patois.

Skull who was a Myspace featured artist, has opened for Reggae icon Buju Banton, and was featured in articles in Billboard, AllHipHop.com, Ballerstatus.com,Vibe, TheSource.com and recently had his first single in the US reach #4 on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B Singles Chart, and currently is the (Greatest Gainer) on The Billboard Singles Sales Chart after rocketing from #54 to #14 on the Top 100 singles Sales Chart, earning him a place in  History.

Skull's video for his current single, Boom Di Boom Di is rotation on MTV Tempo, Hype, RETV, and CVM in Jamaica and is gaining momentum here in the US as well.

Mariah Carey, whose brother Morgan, manages and has orchestrated Skull's career outside of Korea has been quoted as saying, "Skull is a great artist, I hope people support him."

Excerpt from a recent article in Allhiphop.com:
Skull: I think some Koreans believe I am not proud to be Korean because I love Rastafarian culture and Reggae music, but that is not true. I love my country very much. Many Koreans write me that it makes them feel good to see a fellow Korean being popular in the States. They don't feel so left out of the American Dream. In the beginning it would be like, "Hey Chink, get off the stage" or "@#$!* where you from?" But after I sing a few bars, they are cool with me, all love. Now more people know about me, but before they would look at me and form an opinion then they would trip like, "is that really his voice?" Music is universal,
but sometimes people forget that. The Korean Military is requiring that Skull serve his obligatory two and 1/2 year term of service, prior to the completion of his US Debut album. Skull who is the first Korean artist to be embraced by Urban audiences and gain a foothold in American Pop Culture may soon disappear off the scene, and with him, the singular opportunity for Korean American youth to look proudly to a prominent star who resembles them, and feel less alienated by an American Pop Culture machine which has thus far managed to entirely exclude them...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "You may not like her music or her continuing slide into dementia, but I can’t believe that people are busting on Britney Spears for her appearance on Sunday’s VMA Awards. Although I did not watch the telecast, the clips that I saw the next reaffirmed by belief that I would have no problem becoming the 325th guy that she’s slept with… It was a hell of a lot better to be Britney this week than to be a rapper. I was baffled and disappointed by the comments made by Mos Def  as he was a guest on “Real Time With Bill Maher”. Sitting next to esteemed Harvard Professor Cornel West, Mos embarrassed himself by going off on profanity laced tirades about everything under the sun. I tried to stay with him until he started proclaiming that 9/11 wasn’t a terrorist attack, Bin Laden wasn’t responsible, and that no Muslims are terrorists. He made about as much sense as releasing an album in a blank jewel case with no packaging. Oh wait… Trick Daddy continues to be a shining role model as he is arrested for a drunken brawl outside of a Miami strip club. I’m not sure if the bouncers were enamored by his money or fame, but I’m guessing rule #1 in the “Strip Club Doorman’s Handbook” is to not admit people who’s moniker includes the words “Trick” and “Daddy”. The saga of Foxy Brown continues as a judge sentenced the shit magnet to 1 year in prison. Foxy’s incarceration dealt a major blow to the women’s hip hop movement, setting it back anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds"...

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "It’s been a long week for me already! Man Anyone hiring at any big labels? You know I put in work! Thought Id throw that in at yalls!! LOL!!

just got back from New York and Had a great time out there! Has a chance to checkout some dope Cyphers in Brooklyn and Check out the Legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem amongst the many things poppin! I gotta say that the streets are hittin hard with that New Hell Rell CD Coming up! Props to the street teams out there putting in the work to break that record! Also the ongoing battle vs 50 and Kanye is real big out there right now. Im gonna just sleep on those since they have already been out on the streets for a good 3 weeks now…They’ll both sell big! There are a lot of cats out there right now with DOPE music that will be foreshadowed by the 50/Kanye stuff in the news, so I’m gonna be sleepin on putting these in the charts! They both got DOPE albums though!

I heard of a artist by the name of Puff One or something like that from Detroit. I didn’t get his info but would like to find out more about him! If anyone knows anything bout him holla @ Ya Boy!! I just picked up some new heaters from Jessica over at Spectre: G&D (Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins) “TIME”! That is a super DOPE record! All DJ’s are encouraged to add that to their charts and get it out to everyone they know! Were supporting that album 100 Percent! Big ups to our peeps at Jaded for getting us that new Board Bangers Cut “Cuz the Beats Hott” Were getting requests for that one on our station, so be sure to spin that track like its 1999! You definitely feel that one!

AND IF YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT THAT PLANET ASIA “COMIN HOME” JOINT, YOURE REALLY SLEEPIN!! ITS RANKING #1 ON OUR CHARTS THIS WEEK!!! P.A. HAS BEEN GETTING A LOT OF REQUESTS ON OUR SHOW @ UCSB KJUC/KCSB SO SUPPORT THAT, AND TELL A FRIEND!!

Remember: HIP-HOP IS NOT DEAD! RAPATTACKLIVES!! CHECK IT OUT ONLINE @ www.rapattacklives.com...

Adam Lowenstein (WMHB-ME): "Hip-Hop Nation is back on air as of last Thursday, so be sure to check it out every Thursday from 6-8pm at www.wmhbhiphop.com. I'm still catching up on music at the studio since I just got a back to school a week and a half ago, so I'll be in touch with feedback, etc, soon. Let me know if you've got artists who'd like to set up interviews! Peace"...

EarthQuake (Live365.com): I have a new show up Sunday 9/16/07. What a sports weekend up in the Northwest. Seahawks and Huskies needed those wins for sure. Damn Mariners are done!!! The chase for the Nextel cup starts this Sunday. The weather up here is hotter yesterday and today then most of Aug. What did you think of the VMA’s? I thought it was a great atmosphere but terrible show. Big shoutouts to everyone that has hit me up with music. Everyone talks about Kanye and 50 but go get the new Grayskul that dropped this week as well. What up Cool Nutz? Go get that Luni Coleone & Cool Nutz record called Every Single Day at www.jusfamilyrecords.com What up Nasty Nes? What up B Mello? Whoa that was a lot of babble but you know how I do"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "Aight people it's that time of the year for the sports fan. Football has started and there was some good games on Sunday. College football is in full swing, World Series is right around the corner, followed by the NBA and NCAA basketball.. WHAT!!!

Yo I have ask if anyone watches the Bill Maher show on HBO? The last show I caught had Cornel West and Mos Def on it. That shit was comedy. Mos Def was straight bugging on the set. Shit has me rolling, love how Mos just put it out there and made Bill Maher a little uncomfortable. This guy is definitely for the "little man" and nothing like Bill O'Reily. Check it out if you get a chance.

Aight, who knows about this
Jena 6 going on down south? If you don't know, check up on it. We in the year 2007 and this type of bullshit is still taking place. The Civil Rights Act was passed back in 1964 and this type of shit is still happening all the time, and not just in the south. This is blatant racism no matter which way you cut it!

And I have to put my 2 cents in on the VMA awards show. WOW.. that show is hurting big time. They tried a whole new concept and in person I can see it being ok, but on TV it just didn't come off too well. Britney sucked big time, and yes I have to agree with Kayne on this one when he said MTV used her for ratings. Shortie is definitely not past whatever it is she's fighting with, and she shouldn't have performed. I'm no artist, but the looks on the crowds face and the reaction Britney showed from the lack of "life" from the crowd had to be CRUSHING to the ego. Let's all watch the Ozone Awards... check it out if you haven't.. WOW"...

DJ SA  (KRUX-New Mexico): "Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am the resident DJ on Friday nights for Club Bourjalais in El Paso. Once again, thanks to everyone, keep the music coming!! Dont forget to tune in to the live feed every Tuesday night from 7-10 pm (mountain time) at www.kruxradio.com , with my mixes being aired from 9-10 pm. Peace and God Bless.
