We All Live in JenaNational Call to Action

Monday, October 1st, 2007 at Noon, Central Time.
Artist/ Activist Mos Def along with M1, Talib Kweli, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Sankofa Community Empowerment, Change the Game, National Hip Hop Political Convention, Hip Hop Association, and student leaders from 50 campuses call for a National Student Walk-Out to rally and show support for the Jena 6, who are being denied their human rights by the Louisiana criminal justice system.

The Case of the Jena 6
Last fall, when two Black high school students sat under the "white" tree on their campus, white students responded by hanging nooses from the tree. When Black students protested the light punishment for the students who hung the nooses, District Attorney Reed Walters came to the school and told the students he could "take [their] lives away with a stroke of [his] pen." Racial tension continued to mount in Jena , and the District Attorney did nothing in response to several egregious cases of violence and threats against black students. But when a white student--who had been a vocal supporter of the student's who hung the nooses, taunted a black student, called several black students "nigger"--sustained minor injuries from a school fight, six black students were charged with second-degree attempted murder. Last month, the first young man to be tried, Mychal Bell, was convicted. He faced up to 22 years in prison for a school fight until the Black people began to organize and his conviction was thrown out because he was tried as an adult. However the DA and the Judge still refuse to set a reasonable bail or to drop the charges in this case and Mychal is still in jail!!

Mos Def is asking students worldwide to assist in the fight against racial injustice and show solidarity for these young people, who have been treated unequally by the law. The prosecution of these young men symbolizes a terrible miscarriage of justice, by punishing students who opposed segregation in their schools and disregarding the threatening acts of others who advocate it.

As students and activists we say enough is enough! What is happening in Jena is happening all over this country. From Sean Bell to Mychal Bell, the criminal justice system is killing and incarcerating us. We will not be silent!

Demands
Judge J.P. Mauffray and District Attorney Reed Walters have engaged in a string of egregious actions, the most recent of which was the denial of bail for
Bell on Friday. We call for:

1. All charges against the Jena 6 be dropped

2. The immediate release of Mychal Bell

3. The United States Department of Justice to convene an immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the arrests and prosecutions of the Jena 6;

4. Judge Mauffray to be recused from presiding over Bell 's juvenile court hearings or other proceedings;

5. The Louisiana Office of Disciplinary Counsel to investigate Reed Walters for unethical and possibly illegal conduct;

6. The Louisiana Judiciary Commission investigate Judge Mauffray for unethical conduct; and

7. The
Jena School District superintendent to be removed from office.

Rhode Island / Massachusetts MC ANIME takes the Hip Hop world by storm

In an age of orange alerts, crumbling economic systems, and marshal law under the guise of homeland security the people are spoon fed entertainment deemed "safe" by major corporations and the government. Citizens are bombarded with biased media coverage of an unpopular war by big business news stations posing as fair and balanced, as well as mindless "reality" television which is far more scripted than the primetime dramas they have replaced. Indeed, we the people have become conditioned to accept what is given to us. Everyone seems to be aware of this, except the public.
Nowhere has this policy of "eat it until you like it" become more evident than in todays music. What was once the lone voice of the people has become nothing more than hollow images of commercialism and violence. It is now designed to take the peoples minds off of what is really going on, and desensitize them to the real life violence taking place all over the world everyday. What was once our parents spirit of revolution has become a symbol of exactly how corrupted and apathetic our generation has become.

All is not lost however, since the late 1990's a movement has been brewing. In basements and on street corners the essence of freedom remains strong, ready to bubble to the surface and give the people their voice back. Among this guerrilla movement stands Anime. An emcee as unpredictable and gritty as the animated films that he draws his name from. Inspired by the pioneers of the Hip-Hop culture as well as revolutionary artists from all genres. He has spent over 10 years in the underground perfecting his craft. This time spent paying dues allowed Anime to develop a well balanced style that is as full of classic hiphop braggadocio as it is full of story telling and social commentary.

Possessing the swagger of an east coast b-boy; combined with an aggressive delivery, and superior wordplay - Anime stands out from the pack. Always pushing the limits of what he is capable of as an emcee, and what hiphop music is capable of being; Anime is set to strike the industry with a laser guided dose of reality. All in an effort to give a voice back to the people.

ILL BILL – New Album The Hour of Reprisal Delayed Until Early ‘08 - 39 City U.S. Tour with Twiztid Begins September 25th

ILL BILL regretfully announces that his forthcoming sophomore effort, The Hour of Reprisal, has been pushed back until early 2008. The hour-long album, which is to be accompanied by a full-length DVD of ILL BILL live at the legendary (and tragically shuttered) CBGB, features guest appearances by the likes of Raekwon the Chef, B-Real, Immortal Technique, Tech N9ne and Necro, as well as members of the Bad Brains, Killswitch Engage, La Coka Nostra, Jedi Mind Tricks, HERO and Sepultura/Soulfly. Tracks for the set were composed by Muggs, DJ Premier, Lethal, Necro, T-Ray, Cynic, and Sicknature, with a majority of the production coming courtesy of ILL BILL himself. Bill offers “I am extremely proud of this album…it is the most personal music I’ve ever made.” He adds “this record is an uncompromising snapshot of my entire life and the world around me at this very moment.”

Originally scheduled for release on September 11th via Bill’s own Uncle Howie Records in cooperation with Perfect Game Recording Co./Warner Music Group, The Hour of Reprisal did not hit the stores as scheduled due to WMG’s decision to discontinue the Perfect Game label. However, ILL BILL and former Perfect Game general manager Howie Abrams have joined forces to find an appropriate home for the album. They are currently in discussions with a number of interested parties and plan to announce a new release date within the next few weeks.

 In the meantime, ILL BILL remains busy with a number of exciting projects, not to mention his upcoming 39 city tour supporting Twiztid. The trek begins in Cleveland, Ohio on September 25th and comes to an end on November 10th in Columbus, Ohio. Bill is also putting the finishing touches on the debut album by La Coka Nostra, the new group featuring all 3 original members of House of Pain, ILL BILL, Boston’s Slaine and native New Yorker Big Left.

 Additionally, Bill is working on collaborations with the likes of Boot Camp Clik’s Sean Price, Jeru the Damaja and west coast heavyweight Crooked I. He has also contributed production work to the upcoming Army of the Pharaohs and Special Teamz albums.

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Damian Rodriguez (KGNU-CO): "Hey all, the as I approach my 30th bday next august, the more shit starts going wrong w my body. This getting old stuff sucks. Laid up in a hospital bed trying to figure out which dirty roommate gave me a pneumonia wasn’t fun, while they spinal tapped me to drain fluid. Nonetheless, hard to believe I’ve been at this stuff for 10yrs now. Thx for the love & support w/ the music, as I’ll continue to always support my underground flava. Redman was here last night, but I was on drugs, the legal kind, & couldn’t go.

**Ghetto highlight of the week: My female friend had a dinner party & invited a few guests, including me. They all went to a bar after, and she was getting turned off as this guy got more touchy feeley as he drank. To turn him off, she said “I have a booger”. He then said, “lemme get that” and this New Yorker in Denver procdeeded to pick her nose, and stick it in his mouth. In shock she turned to her other friend and asked “did he just pick my booger & eat it?” the other female replied “yes”.

Moral: You’re utterly disgusting freaky suit & tie ghetto when you eat womens boogers at a bar trying to impress her. I’m gonna bet that’s not the first time he stuck someone’s snot in his mouth, and he’s one of those dudes that likes the exxxtra freaky golden showers, etc….

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Crazy weekend for me as I had my birthday and my best friend's wedding back to back. The most unnerving part was giving the "Best Man" speech. I chose to make my speech a lot like my weekly column - which could have been horrible. But despite references to pregnant nuns, elementary school kids smoking cigarettes, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome", and murdered hobos, I got big laughs.

Needless to say, I pretty much drowned in booze this past weekend and am now spending most of my waking hours trying to lose 5 pounds and regain my dignity. At least I didn't lose as much dignity as
Saigon. Did you see the video of him online getting beat down at his own show by Mobb Deep? I guess it's not smart to break Mobb Deep CDs on a DVD and then open up a show for them. This should be a nice segment on "Beef V".

Vinyl is officially dead. I asked Def Jam this week to send me a clean copy of the Kanye West on vinyl, and they replied "We didn't press any". When Def Jam, the company that sent me (10) copies of Method Man & Redman on wax, stops making vinyl - you know it's over"...

Jason-D (RadioBoise.Org): "Here's the latest! All my shows are archived at: www.djjasond.com...

Adam Lowenstein (WMHB-ME): "Shouts to Nes for inviting me to join the Rapattack conference call panel! Let me know if you need anything, and don't forget to check out WMHBhiphop.com for playlists, charts, and news! Peace"...

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "I got that New Heat for all of ya! Check out the new Top 30 Charts from 80.5FM – 805HipHop.Com. At the top of the charts we got new heat by Roc-C and OhNo off the new label LYGER RECORDS. Be sure to support this album and put it on your charts! We’ve been getting some real DOPE feedback on this new cut! Also look for new singles coming out next month featuring Crooked I, Chino XL, Mic Geronimo and more!! Trust Me! This album will be Hott! Its set for release in Feb of 2008, so be on the lookout!!

ANY DJ, RADIO SHOW, MIXTAPE DJ tthat needs drops from Roc-C and Ohno for their show, new mixtape, websites, etc…Hit me up ASAP!

You can send me your drops scripts to: dtragic@805hiphop.com

We’ll get them made and send them back out to you!! Send us some Feedback on the joint!! If you need anything from Roc-C and Ohno be sure to holla!!!"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "What's good people? Got a question this week about MP3s (3rd Rail, you are not expected to answer homie.. haha). Since we are getting the mainly MP3s serviced to us now, what types of software do you all use to help organize and "clean" up the MP3s you are getting.

Note: my station broadcast over cable TV in the dorms, so if any of the labels have CLEAN versions of videos of your artist, and you'd like to get it on the TV in the dorms please send those out on disc. This is a good opportunity for indie labels that have videos to get some support since it seems that most people now will pay more attention to a video then just a song on the air. I can definitely do a hybrid show of MP3s and videos on my show, so send them through"...

DJ SA (KRUX-New Mexico): "If there is anyone that can service me with house/freestyle/club/high energy, please hit me back, that is what they are feelin out at the club, and im running low on what I've got, if at all possible, please send wax to:

DJ S.A. - Troy Candelaria

DJ Yoshi (Mixtapes-NJ): "So the MTV awards were TERRIBLE this year. I miss the years when they'd have a STRONG opener & an even STRONGER closer. I think the last time that I actually enjoyed the show was the year before Axl Rose tried to do a GNR come back WITHOUT Izzy, Slash & the rest of the real GNR folk!  BUT, the highlight was listening to Justin play out MTV and say: PLAY MORE VIDEOS!

I've known Tila for a few years (since 2001), but giving her a reality TV show?

 If you haven't noticed by now, programming on that station has led kids to:

want to put bling all over their bodies

drive Bentley's & Mazarratis that most artists DON'T own

have artists perform @ their super sweet 16/18th birthdays

But hey, if it gets you ratings, I guess that's what it's all about to the suits.

Meanwhile, I've pitched a pretty damn good idea for a TV show that educates while keepin it real & I still can't get it signed by a major. Oh well, I'll just keep the faith alive until I get that check cut.

BUT, I do have 2 big things in the works that I can't wait to share with everyone. Until those contracts are signed, I'm not gonna jinx anything. so you'll just have to wait till you see the subject line for a newsletter coming at you in hopefully the NEAR FUTURE.

BIG SHOUT TO DJ SHOWTIME. The legendary dude has blessed me with a mixshow slot on WPHH: Power 104.1 Hartford, CT. My 1st night is scheduled for: Friday 9.28 from 9PM - 11PM! For show times & additional information, reach out to Showtime. On my note, I'm EXTREMELY excited with the new mixshow slot there. It's time to start grinding it REAL hard b/c you know my overall goal is #1 overall w/ my slot! Anyway, all my MIDWEST folk THANK YOU! MINNEAPOLIS was INCREDIBLE this past weekend.

 We brought the BOOST Mobile Urban Stage to the Minneapolis Convention Center & SHUT IT DOWN! The local talent was definitely a pleasure. THE B-Boy battle was CRAZY. BUT, hands down the most entertaining MC Battle. Thank you again & I look forward to coming out to Minneapolis a BUNCH of times to get down in the club!"...
