R.I.P to: Shawn "Mic Lord" Austin, a personality on Hip-Hop station 103 Jamz, died from unknown causes, according to local reports. Austin was widely known as one-half of the Boodah Brothers, a humorous on-air team at the Virginia radio station and to Billy Henderson, a member of the smooth R&B vocal group the Spinners, died last Friday of complications from diabetes at a health care facility in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was 67. This will likely be a week long trial. If need be, please let your employers know ASAP as to which days you would like to take off to attend the trial. DV One will need as many supporters and participants there as possible.

This years "URBAN NETWORK" Conference in Newport Beach, CA was off tha hook! A lot of good quality heads in the house. The panels were good but NO ONE mentioned the importance of COLLEGE RAP RADIO. So yours truly had to make it known to everyone that COLLEGE RAP RADIO is a very important outlet especially for independent labels to get their music heard first! RAP ATTACK was in the house & stood up for every DJ on our RAPATTACKLIVES.COM panel! The poolside event was crazy sponsored by Omni Entertainment. Heads got a chance to see for the first time both Skull & Mighty Mystic (see photos above) perform live on the same stage their new collabo single "Here To Stay" droppin' in 2 weeks. Great weekend & thanks to all who came thru...

Floyd Mayweather Jr. couldn't win over the crowd, or even his own father. All he could win was the only thing that really counted Saturday night, his fight against Oscar De La Hoya. Boxing's bad boy beat the Golden Boy in one of the richest fights ever, using his superb defensive skills and superior speed to take a 12-round split decision and win the WBC 154-pound title in his first fight at that weight.

On May 19th 2007 the Native Guns will perform their final show as a group in Honolulu, Hawaii. With four years of dedication to each other and the community, Bambu and Kiwi have mutually decided to continue their careers as solo artists.

Much props to Russell Simmons who took time out of his busy schedule & hang with our dj's on last Thursday's RAP ATTACK CONFERENCE CALL. Both Russell & I reminiced to the early 80's when Def Jam serviced me with their debut T La Rock "It's Yours" single & the Duke Burzutti (did I spell that correct?) single. Wow how time flies. Russell's new book "Do You" is on the Best Seller list & he shared a lot of positive light with us on acheiving our goals. To sum up what I got from this icon is what I've always believed & that's to be honest, do what you LOVE doing, put GOD as the center & focused part of your life & have faith. I can't wait to start reading my copy of, "Do You!" I highly recommend you pick up a copy. Russell also endorsed the new Jinx Da Juvy "Strong Enough" single that's about to drop. You will be hearing more about this joint so stay tuned. Thanks again to Russell Simmons & also to Big Phil...

R.I.P.: Our prayers go out to the family of Hi-Five singer Tony Thompson who was found dead in his Waco, Texas hometown. The R&B singer was reportedly working on new material with a few notable rappers; the famed group disbanded in 1994...

Did anyone see the season finale of HBO's "Sopranos?" All I can say is, "There was no good ending, so 'The Sopranos' left off without one." For real, when it came to the very end, I thought my cable went out or the electricity died & then next thing you see are the final credits! LOL. Hearing Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" leads me to believe that Tony & his posse will all be back on the BIG screen at a theater near you sometime in 2009!

Our prayers go out to the legendary producer Marley Marl who apparently suffered a heart attack ...

Rap Attack wants to welcome to their Conference Call DJ panel, DJ Tragic from www.805HipHop.com!...

A few weeks ago his body was found in a deadly homicide. Mike was a great guy & I will miss him dearly... R.I.P. Tammy Faye Messner/Baker...

Last weeks' Bum Squad Conference was off tha hook. Big ups to Latin Prince (see photo above) & his posse, Octavia, Derick & the Bums for puttin' on another well attended conference. The highlight for me was attending their advance screening of Jackie Chan & Chris Tucker's "Rush Hour 3" (New Line Cinema). It was great seeing the two together on the big screen cuz they've got that chemistry. The movie will keep you laughing, you'll enjoy the action scenes & watching the beautiful sites in Paris is a plus too. "Rush Hour 3" can't touch 1 or 2 but you will enjoy 3 if you're a RUSH fan!...

Last Sunday night was a Flashback treat for me as The Calloway Brothers aka Midnight Star performed a live set featuring all their hits they sang & wrote! The place to be was at Stevie's Creole & Cafe here in Encino, Cali. Both Vincent & Reggie Calloway and their band laced the crowd with their biggest Midnight Star hits from "No Parking On The Dance Floor," "Wet My Whistle," "Electricity," "Operator," "Slow Jams (one of my all time fav love jam) & the track that put them on the map, "Freak-A-Zoid!"...

SCION has flown both me & DJ Chill Will (WCBN-MI) to be a part of their "A River Rides Through It" promotions & meeting with some of their top execs. SCION continues to be a big part of the Hip-Hop lifestyle. While we are in Idaho, we will be peepin' out their new line of whips, their XB & XD rides, discussing how RAP ATTACK & our DJ's can be more involved with SCION events like we have been in the past with their "Mixtape DJ" & "Beat DJ/Producer" events. The highlight of this trip will be seeing two, 200 lb plus men river rafting on the Idaho river. Guess who the 2 fellas are?...

My trip back home to Seattle was very sentimental. My former radio co-host, The Shockmaster Glen Boyd from KCMU Rap Attack & from NASTYMIX Records days reunited after more than 10 years. We hosted the "Seattle Asian Hip-Hop Summit" event. Our dawg, DJ J-Tyme (X104-Seattle) dj'd the event & we all had a blast. The highlight of the evening was being honored by Seattle's "206 Zulu Nation" with the official Zulu beads for my accomplishments in Seattle Hip-Hop. Much props to King Khazm, Julie C., Silver Shadow D, the entire Zulu posse, Kublai Kwon, Georgio & Kitty Wu (Coolout Network) who was in the house showing me love. The following evening was very special as B-Mello from KEXP let me & The Shockmaster be a guest on his KEXP radio show. His show used to be my show & it's been exactly 10 years since I signed off. That night reminising was such a memorable moment hangin' with my old crew (see photo above) B-Mello, Glen Boyd, Robert "Forrest Gump" Brewer, DJ Earthquake & missing that evening, Mike Cee. It was GREAT to be back home. "206" fo' life!...

How could a guy who recorded a backpack sounding song like 'Kick, Push' not have listened to 'Tribe Called Quest'? How could Lupe of all people try and distance himself from so called 'backpack music'? The fact of the matter is when many heard Lupe's debut album 'Food and Liquor' many naturally thought he was in many ways picking up where Tribe left off. Hence his remarks about not listening to Tribe caught everyone off guard...

Southern Los Angeles is experiencing some of the worst out of control fire conditions. My prayers go out to all the victims who have lost their homes. I can't even imagine what they're going through now...

MOST MEMORABLE HIP-HOP MOMENT IN 2007:

Nasty-Nes (RapAttackLives.com): "A lot of you know about my personal struggles I went through over the past few years & because of my faith in the MAN up above I've overcome those struggles. So I am thankful for that & much more which include this year:

1. Winning the "CORE DJ Legendary DJ Award!"

2. My cat Snuggles from Seattle died in Feb 2007. He was 15 years old & I miss him.

3. Working out at Bruce Lee's "Jun Fan Gung-Fu" club in Seattle & doing Chi Sao with my Sifu Taky Kimura. I also found out I am Type 2 Diabetic. Now I have to  change my diet & hit the gym more so I can be around for a while!

4. Reuniting with The Shockmaster Glen Boyd 10 years later on Seattle's KEXP & being honored into the 206 Zulu Nation.

5.I got more call backs & acting auditions this year so I'm praying all that hard work will pay off in 2008! I want my own star on Hollywoods' Walk Of Fame!

It's been 3 years & 8 months since I quit smoking & I feel GREAT! I can go on & on & on on how thankful I am for 2007. But I have to reach out to my extended family at RAP ATTACK & say, "THANK YOU!" You have made this year a great year for me & for Hip-Hop music. I couldn't have done this without you. You've been by my side all these years & I appreciate that. I'm a very humble guy & I don't need the limelight or media to prove to anyone anything. Those that know me well know that everything I do comes from my heart unconditionally"...

G-Fresh (WAIF-Cincinnati): "The Kanye / 50 Cent sales battle. Common and Talib Kweli getting more exposure and props. Hi-Tek doing his thing. J-Zones 5 things that ruined Hip-Hop blog. The continued imbalance in Hip-Hop. I'm an Uncle and my niece will learn the history of this music, educating the 3rd Generation about history and movement of hip-hop. I use to love her but I still do like a beautiful woman growing older who isn't as pretty, but I'll always love her because she was there for me through the good and the bad, so I have the return the favor. She needs some help so I can't abandon her, I'm just inspired to help others see what I saw when I first laid eyes on her. Ralo"...

DJ SANDMAN (Mixtapes-Tampa): "Being Krs One's Dj for his show in Tampa, Fl -May 2007"...

Conrad "DJ RADD1" Tatnall (WDBM-MI): Wow, this year went by so damn fast! I think it was Erykah Badu's live performance at her theater in Dallas during the CORE DJ RETREAT this past August. Her show and performance was incredible!!!!"...

Damian "Mr. Groove" Rodriguez (KGNU-CO): "Most memorable moment was djing a St. Patty's day at an irish bar, and giving up liquor for lent. I made it through, but it was insane the amount of booze going around. Other notable's include Denver Nugs getting Iverson & the Rockies going to the World Series. & my hometown of Cleveland having a decent football team finally"...

Wonder Twinz (SIRIUS): "Wow.... Another year gone!!! Ok, so let's recap on some Highlights of The Wonder TwinZ' 2007.... In January, we had the chance to sit down and kick it with Ice-T to create the cover story for Volume 23 of our magazine "The Connex List"... That was an ill night; we sat with Ice and Coco for over 4 hours just chillin’... Then in March, we had the release party for that issue and Ice-T came down and did over an hour long performance, in which he ran thru all of his classics.... That club was packed.... Our mom and dad came down to that party to meet Ice and watch the performance... They're big fans of Law & Order - S.U.V., plus they remember hearing Ice-T songs bumpin' through-out the house back in the day when we were growing up....

Another dope time in 2007 was when we received a personal phone call from Chuck D stating that he was appointing us in charge of promoting the brand new Public Enemy album

"How You Sell Soul To A Souless People Who Sold Their Soul".... We’ve been buying PE albums since the 80's, now Chuck D is asking us to join the team.... DAAAAMN... That was dope... Then in August, we dropped vol. 24 of The Connex List (50 Cent on Cover) and Chuck D came down to the party to talk to the crowd, as well as perform
ALL the Public Enemy Classics............... Yup, it was an unforgettable night!!!
However, as far as the MOST memorable moment for us in 2007, it was without a doubt the day that we got a phone call from Vinnie (Naughty By Nature)... That day we picked up the phone and Vinnie asked us “how our passports were”? Next he said “pack your bags, because we need you guys to start DJing for us”..... Every DJ in the world knows how dope it is to receive a phone call from a legendary group like that..... So needless to say we knocked the dust off our passports and never looked back... Since May of 2007, The Wonder TwinZ have DJ'd on stage with Naughty By Nature in 10 European countries, plus Japan, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and countless shows here in the U.S..... The crowd sizes have ranged from 1,500 to 15,000..... Standing on that stage looking out at thousands of people waiving their hands from side-to-side, while they chant HipHop Hooray is an unexplainable feeling.... And we're loivin' every bit of it!!!!

Yup, all the drama and headaches of this business become meaningless when opportunities like that come around.... Good lookin' out 2007, you did us well!!!!
Here are some YouTube video clips of some of the shows…… These clips will remind you of how DOPE Naughty by Nature’s LIVE show is… Just copy & paste them into your browser……….

DJ Solo (WECI-IN): "The birth of my daughter"...

Nesto (WODU-Norfolk): "Wow.. I think my most memorable moment in 2007 was my 2 weeks vacation during the summer. I NEEDED that time off from work real bad, and I went up to Maine with my family and chilled with more family that lives in Maine. Spent a week on the lake and just chilled hard, swimming, hanging with the fam, trying to wakeboard, and star gazing at night. It's crazy how many stars are in the night sky without the city lights drowning out the stars. And I also got to spend time with my cousin I haven't seen in a couple of years that stays in Boston. We took in a Red Sox game and that was awesome. First time at Fenway Park and the energy there is insane. Definitely a classic moment for my 2007 year.
But the best moment of 2007 hopefully isn't in stone just yet. Maybe I'll win the lottery and be able to live this music thing for real, and finally get my ass back to CMJ next year.. haha.. wishful thinking I know"...

DJ Frresh (KPSU-Portland): "My most memorable moment was  hanging out witth Digital Underground in Portland for Halloween & my favorite part of that show was when Digital did a 2 Pac dedication"...

J-Tyme (X104-Seattle): "A lot of things went down in 2007 but one of my most memorable moments was being able to see Rakim rock live when he came through Seattle with Ghostface and Brother Ali. Now I've seen a lot of shows and concerts, but for me, being a fan, this was a show I don't think I'll ever forget"...

DJ Static (CKUT-Canada): "This was a big year for me and my radio show WEFUNK. After 10 years in the game, we were recognized at the 2007 Stylus DJ Awards with the College Radio Show of the Year award! WEFUNK has always been a labor of love. We never went the commercial route so it's been an uphill battle to get underground music out all these years... So it means alot to finally be recognized for it. To top it all, the award was presented by Red 1 from the Rascalz, who I grew up listening to back in the day on college and community radio in Vancouver! Of course I gotta big up my partner on WEFUNK Professor Groove who lays down all the funk and original breaks on the show, who built the WEFUNK website from scratch till it became a worldwide phenomenon, syndicated on iTunes radio with listeners around the world!"...

EarthQuake (Live365.com): "My most Memorable moment of 2007 is watching my son grow from 7 months old to now 18 months old at Thanksgiving. It’s amazing that they start walking, talking and becoming themselves. Everyday he shows me something new and it’s just amazing"....

Prizmatik (Sprint Mobile Radio): "My most memorable moment was most likely planning and executing the video for Anime - “Tell Myself I’m Happy”. I have learned so much about this business in the past year or so that I have never had a need to know until now. It was a long and tedious process, but I felt like the end result really paid off. Much respect to my Rap Attack fam and all the djs worldwide holding my man Anime down, we just getting started.

Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): "2007 has been a humbling year for me personally. Some moments that jump out are watching Joe Paterno at 80 years old still be a football coach and win in this day and age. Going to the numerous shows at CMJ and here in Philly, and watching the Phillies finally win the division. The most memorable moment had to be Nov 21st. Seeing the great Rakim perform at the Trocadero took me back to a time when I wasn't quite a teenager yet and realized I was hearing a truly great artist. It was humbling because I realized as hard as I would try I could never have that much talent to ever bless a mic the way this man does. To have 40 and 30 year olds all in stunned amazement it was like the late 80's early 90's all over again for one night. Greatness is  the 18th letter and maybe that will inspire a new generation to be great even in these difficult times"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): ""I had a couple good moments this year. There was the trip to New Jersey and hanging out at the spot where they filmed the final scene

for the Soprano's. Then there was taking the subway up to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. But, hands down, my most memorable moment was meeting Rakim. Here was a guy, a legend, performing at a club not more than 5 minutes from my house and before I know it, I'm hanging out with him for a couple minutes. It may not seem like much to many. But when you're dj who can flashback to long hours after high school back in 86 practicing back spinning and scratching "Eric B Is President" and "I Know You Got Soul", you'll understand how dope this moment was"...

DJ EFN (Mixtapes-Miami): "The release of "Life Unscripted" by Garcia, executive produced by myself and N.O.R.E. and released on my imprint Crazy Hood via Latch Key / Koch Records. It was Garcia's second release and Crazy Hoods third full length release. As a very independent company we are very proud whenever we have the opportunity to release a project"...

DJ King Otto (KFAI-MN): "My most memorable moment was opening for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at the first sold out capacity show of her American tour!"...
