WHRW & CPP's DAN SHORES IS "MAKIN' IT HAPPEN":

Give us a brief rundown of what you do exactly with CPP and how you gotstarted?
CPP is all encompassing promotions firm. We develop strategies and campaigns for recording artists and several other products as well.Myself and Nana Osei started CPP in the summer of 2005 after many conversations on how to impact our market in upstate NY and also NYC. Since then, we've been blessed to work with the likes of Bulldog Gin, Digiwaxx Media, Scion, DJ Rob Swift, DJ Spinna, J-Rocc just to name a few.

Explain how the college radio charts work for those who don't know?
Promoters like us at CPP work an artist's material to college Dj's. These Djs will submit their weekly charts or playlists at a number of different industry publications or trade magazines. The Dj's charts are compiled and appear on weekly email blasts, websites and print magazines.

You are a Dj, how does that help market your clients?

As a Dj on radio, in bars, lounges, clubs and even mixtapes you have a great deal of responsibility. Listeners or patrons of those clubs look at you to give them the latest, freshest music. While i'm in this position I have the opportunity to talk up my clients, play their music often, put out a mixtape with my client hosting or splash my mixshow with dozens of drops from my artist. The possibilities are endless.

What type of clients have you worked with so far..and how has your services helped them?
We've worked a good deal of Hiphop releases. We've pushed songs featuring Akon, Jadakiss, Illmind, KRS-1, Phonte of Little Brother, Cali Agents and Supastition just to name a few. As far as helping our artists, our services have landed a lot of our artists in the top 5 each time on the college radio charts, mixtape placement in countries like Switzerland, Germany and Japan, spins on XM radio, internet shows and much more.

What advice do you have for anybody who is putting their own project out and wants to get it out to the world?
Build relationships with Dj's for one. The DJ will put your music out there to the masses (if its quality material of course). Other tips would be to let recorded music go. Give it away,no one is buying it anymore. Develop other streams of revenue like merchandise and touring. Do it full time, go hard and have a professional team do your art direction. Hope that helps.

Big L or Big Pun?
Big L, Big Pun was incredible no question about that, but his newer material was filled with a lot of heavy breathing and snorting.

Favorite Drink?

Something that Jrocc introduced me to: California kool-aid aka Hennessy and Pinapple juice. bartenders don't know how to react when I order that.

Favorite record to "get ya groove on" to?

I have tons of that music. Maxwell, D'angelo, Sade, Mint Condition, older R. Kelly

Favorite Joint out right now?
The Radar remix by Marco Polo ft. Large Professor

Who are you diggin outside of Hip Hop right now?
I dig a lot of newer sounds while still appreciating the old. I'll listen to J-Davey or Georgia Ann Muldrow, and then turn around and listen to someone like Bobby Caldwell or Donald Byrd

Aight Dan thanks for everything homey.. you got any shout outs or thank you's?
Of course, big up to the Sole Vibe crew for the interview. The CPP staff. All the clients past and present, Nasty-Nes at RapAttackLives.com, all the DJ's who've rocked w/ us for so long. Product lines, media sponsors and drink companies that have helped us along the way. The Beast from the East over at Get Smart productions, all the record companies I deal with major and Indie and you of course the reader. Keep supporting that Sole Vibe shiet!...

I guess no matter what you do there are some who simply won't let racism die. This article appeared in the Long Island Newspaper the Independent which serves the Hampton Community which is home to wealthy folks like Martha Stewart and P-Diddy. It would be nice if some of those who have lots of resources would be enraged enough to publicly express their displeasure, but alas they have not....I mean where not talking about a controversial figure who is being targeted here. We're talking about Barack Obama. Regardless if you agree with his politics, he at l;east has made a strong attempt to bring people of all races together. Whoever wrote this article along with the people who silently chuckled along with it, are a big part of the problem we have in terms of getting us to all come together. You can write the editors or call them and express your anger..

Why I Should Be Our Next President
By Yo Mama Bin Barack

http://www.indyeastend.com/1editorialbody.lasso?-token.folder=2008-01-23&-token.story=72453.113117&-nothing

My name is YoMama Bin Barack, and I want to be your next president so together we can begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today.

My opponents say I live in a dream world. That may well be true, for I believe in the dream of Doctor Martin Luther King, the dream that all men are created equal.

His words resonate in my very being: "Some day, you too can be a black man who makes a difference in this country, and you too can be called 'Doctor' even though you are not a doctor of any kind." I believe that, and someday I hope people will call me Doctor YoMama. In fact, I hope someday people will call me President Doctor YoMama (but please don't call me Luther, I hate that name).

I was telling this very thing to my wife AliBama the other night while we were in bed, umm, praying. I said, "AliBama, I want to be your next president so together we can begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today."

And she said, "YoMama, then why don't you cut out the president shit and get a real job and make some freakin' money?" But I explained I have plenty of money, because bleeding heart liberal Democrats from all across this vast country of ours have felt it in their hearts to send a contribution to my campaign so I can begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today and also because I need to buy my little daughter Bama Slamma a PlayStation so she will get off my back.

Why do I think I am the best candidate for the job? Look at my resume – it speaks for itself.

Educational background: Doctorate

Military background: I was the first black troop leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 43 in my home state of
Illinois. Well, that's not quite true, because they didn't let black kids in the Boy Scouts, so I lied and said I was Hawaiian, which I kind of am, sort of. You see, part of my strategy of becoming our first black president is to deny I am black unless I am campaigning in Harlem. The truth is, I don't know many black people, but my advisors have drafted a strategy to reel in the black vote:

1) Call everyone "Brother." Blacks, I am told, do this, even if their real brothers are mostly in jail.

2) Talk Jive. Brothers want to hear jive. During my speech I told the crowd "We be, you know, sick of whitey supressin' and congestin' so, you know, we won't denigrate or sophisticate but emulate and populate, you know, the system is, like, broken, y'all!"

I have no idea what that means. The black folk loved it, though, so they all vowed to vote for me. The New York Times covered it, but they are so afraid of saying something racist they twisted my words around and reported:

"Yesterday in Harlem YoMama articulated his vision of a new America, an America with less congestion, a country free of drug use, a world without segregation or racism where citizens emulate the lives of great Americans like YoMama, John F. Kennedy and Doctor Martin Luther King."

So you see, there is my strategy. I get the black vote, I get the white vote, and then I go after the female vote by attacking that bitch Hillary for being the Nasty Witch from Hell.

Anyhow, girls think I'm cute. I'm kind of like Will Smith, except he's got those Dumbo ears and mine are normal. So, for the next six months, I am going to fly all over the country, and every place I speak I am going to tell the people:

"As Americans, we can take enormous pride in the fact that courage has been inspired by our own struggle for freedom, by the tradition of democratic law secured by our forefathers and enshrined in our Constitution. It is a tradition that says all men are created equal under the law and that no one is above it."

To be honest, I have no idea what that means. If you analyze it carefully, it really doesn't mean anything. But it sounds like something a president or a doctor would say. I can make that speech every day and no matter how many times I do the stupid newspapers will report it differently. They will make me sound like the smart, young, new voice of America, because most editors out there figure anything is better than having a cow like Hillary Clinton snorking around the White House making weasel deals again.

Ultimately, if she gets too close, one of my New York advisors has advised me to, "Bitch slap that ho." White women, I am told, like that. (Black women, on the other hand, do not. I tried that once on AliBama and she beat the living shit out of me.)

Of course, I also have to contend with John Edwards. My strategy is to ignore him until he actually manages to win a primary. Since he's, like, zero for 43 so far, that should be the end of him. You see, Mr. Edwards hasn't figured out that to win an election some people have to actually vote for you. (If he does make a run at me, I might consider bitch slapping him, as he is somewhat of a Pretty Boy if you get my jist.)

In closing, I humbly ask for your vote on Election Day, even if I did hang around the school yard and smoke pot when I was getting my Doctorate in Blackstuff. And, oh, by the way, I am in the process of finding out how I can also call myself "Reverend." I have a call in to Al Sharpton...

Maxmillian Jones has just dropped his debut joint "Haters" (Tillis Ent. Management). The MP3 was released last week & gettin' favorable feedback. Stay tuned for more...

WHO IS KEL SPENCER?:

"Balance," answers Kel Spencer to the question "What is the key to life?" This Brooklyn native lives up to that response in every sense of the word. Not only is Kel Spencer dubbed the best rapper you've never heard of but he's also Co-Chairman of his own imprints 3RD Power Music Group & Double L Communications. He's a public speaker and ghostwriter for artists such as Nick Cannon, MC Lyte, Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley and Will Smith co-writing songs like the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD WINNING "Switch." Currently, Kel is finishing his own album while working on the "Who is Kel Spencer?" Documentary. Kel, also a community leader with his Pens of Power after school literacy program on the way is the Co-Author of "L. Bennett's Weekly Bread" and occasionally writes commercial jingles and Theme Songs... now that's a balancing act. Kel Spencer The Promise set aside his promising future in football while attending Morgan State declaring that, GOD blessed me with more than one gift and I think I can help a greater cause by doing the music thang.

His gift has been displayed on dozens of mix-tapes, at over 75 showcases and on projects like The Wild Wild West Soundtrack, Will Smiths Willennium and Born to Reign. Additionally, Kel has acquired press in/on SMACK DVD, XXL Magazine, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, BILLBOARD, VIBE, ESPN Magazine, HUSH, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED (On Campus Edition) and, BLACK BEAT. Kel fulfilled all of these accomplishments while on a strict athletic regiment and taking care of educational business pursuits at Morgan State University's Earl G. Graves School of Business.

As a New York All City quarterback, at Brooklyn's Canarsie High School, Lennie Bennett aka Kel Spencer, has always had the passion for leadership and winning. I think that humans have an innate need to believe in something, It's just in our nature to want better. But black music as a whole doesn't feed that need, says Kel. I want the 3RD Power brand to fill that void. Partying, having fun and making money are all cool but we need to keep an eye on the big picture at the same time. The big picture will be made clear on Kel Spencer's debut project, ONE WAY, set for release this Summer. Several companies are interested in Kel and the 3RD Power imprint, and the negotiation process is "overwhelming," says Kel. "But first things first, I've already put out the Who Is Kel Spencer? mix-tape and The Wilderness Video. Next I'm going to release Live on The Air hosted by my Big sister, MC Lyte and the Who is Kel Spencer? Documentary in addition to my 2007 debut release "ONE WAY." I want to truly establish myself as a brand rather than just have two decent singles and disappear. I've seen all of the success stories and all of the failures. By intertwining my street dealings with spirituality it can be nothing less than a winning formula, I'm the Block Apostle, you'll see. Dubbed the Hip Hop Moses, with his current single, The Building, spinning in over 22 cities, and 8 countries, Mr. Spencer intends on leading us to the Promised Land. Kel Spencer The Promise, hmmm sounds promising. For more info contact:

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "Another great weekend of football. I had no doubt that the Patriots would win at home against
San Diego. But honestly, it was a boring game. And then the whole is he or isn't he injured deal with Tom Brady a day or two after the game is clearly a mind game. Hopefully the Giants don't fall for the scam and stay focused. Now speaking of the Giants, them winning at Green Bay was awesome. That is what a playoff game is supposed to be. Overtime, in the snow, down to a final field goal. Damn that was an awesome game. I can't wait for the Superbowl. My predicton, Giants by at least 4 points"...

DJ Prove 1 (KSDT-San Diego): "What up! I'm back (see photo above) DJing every week on KSDT, they finally fixed the main board and they have a sweet little new setup and a lot of DJs (many of whom are spinning Hip-Hop! I'm stoked to be back although it adds to my already busy life, but I can't ever turn my back on the opportunity to DJ and spin music for people. Check the new web site for both KSDT and my music site for past shows, top spins of all songs on the station
and more! We are just starting to get new music back into the station, so if you have anything you'd like to send our way please do, we'd love to spin any and all good music. As we are just starting out, the charts are a little light. They will fill out as we progress into the quarter!

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): " So my wildest dream and worst nightmare came true with the graceful arc of one football through two yellow uprights. Just a few minutes earlier I was cursing Lawrence Tynes and his family, friend and everyone who knew him. I madly punched a throw pillow and gasped words that rhymed with "truck" and "stuck" after his first game winning kick sailed wide. But when he punched through the impossible (for him) 47 yarder in OT, all was forgiven. But not all was forgiven. Not on Monday morning when I arrived at work to find my New York Giants mug sitting in the center of my desk with a big "Post-It" note attached to it with the word "Loser" scrawled in angry red marker. So now I embark on the two week hero's quest of solitude. Every man, woman, and child in New England is against me. But I must soldier on, because that's what a real fan does.

Speaking of real fans, I didn't realize what a hardcore porn fan DJ Premier was until today. Following a strong recommendation, I downloaded a recent edition of Premier's Sirius Satelite radio show "Live From Headquarterz". This edition was being guest hosted by DJ Eclipse, as Premier was at the Adult Video News Awards in Las Vegas. Halfway through the first hour, Premier calls into the show and starts rattling off a laundry list of the porn stars that he's interacted with, giving detailed descriptions of how their appearance and performances have changed in comparison to their recent video releases. He is nearly giddy, and lauds the porn industry for growing and encourages the Hip-Hop industry to grow in such a manner. I guess I always knew he got his inspiration from somewhere, I just didn't figure it would be porn. Who knew we had that in common?

Speaking of trashy media, I've about had it with XXL. The book continues to spiral downward in quality, and the "100th Issue" spectacular that just hit my mailbox is no exception. This issue features Hip Hop's 100 biggest moments since XXL was founded. Although they picked some good moments, the ranking is way out of wack. The deaths of Big L, JMJ, and Big Pun (at #83, #43, and #23 respectively) are outranked by ridiculous choices like Ma$e becoming a Minister (#22), T.I. getting arrested by the ATF (#20), and Lauryn Hill winning 5 Grammys (#12). Other ridiculously trivial moments include Kurupt and Foxy Brown's break up (#92), Puffy runs the NY Marathon (#80), Gucci Mane is arrested for attempted murder (#77), Tony Yayo goes back to prison (#72), DMX impersonates an FBI Agent (#53), and Snoop Dogg signs to "No Limit" (#41). Where the death of J. Dilla? Where's the demise of vinyl and other hard copy music media? The proliferation of satelite radio? The rise of indy labels like Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, and Koch? I could probably think of twenty others that they missed. The only solace is the fact that I finally got to read the last self-indulgent smarmy column by the recently terminated editor, Elliott Wilson. His unrelenting bragging looks pretty foolish now!"...

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): Another week of winter. I'm tired of it can we just skip to spring. Hope everyone remembered the importance of Martin Luther King Day. I went to the Sixers-Pacers game, and quite honestly I think my community service could have been helping them make free throws. The experience wasn't a total loss as R-son and his family and I had box seats with food courtesy of Aramark( Shout out to Rich on the tickets). The Flight Brothers was back in action last Friday at the Arts Garage. 1535 Ridge Avenue in North Philly 18+ 21 to drink, but as usual I'm not drinking.10 bills. Till next week here is hoping that Randy Orton loses to Jeff Hardy at the Royal Rumble"...

Randy "DJ Raize" Reyes (Mixtape/Jive Records-New York): "I just wanted to share with you all a short video of our wedding in Philippines. It is about a three and a half minutes long. Enjoy:. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW_OnLaAv2c...

Brother John (TheBestJams.com): "Peace, now that we are into 2008 and Apple just released the dopest laptop ever, I think its time I introduced myself. I am Brother John from The Best Jams.com. I run 6 radio stations from my crib and they all are live 24hrs a day. These channels include Urban (Hip Hop and R&B), Reggae, Gospel, Farrakhan, Kids, Pop House & Dance. Within 48 hours I will be releasing a Mixtape Channel. All of these channels are up and running as we speak, visit http://www.thebestjams.com/remote. This is the direct link to all channels in a unique website, that I created as well.

With that being said, I am reaching out to everyone that I know as well as all the A&Rs and DJs, Artists, Promoters, Record Pools, Labels etc. On January 29th is The Best Jams 4 year anniversary of broadcasting and I want to invite those to the movement and see if you are interested in working with me and my team. I do not have any flashy pics or pics of half naked women and fancy cars and jewels in this email to try to get your attention. Instead, I am coming to you in a professional manner, in black and white.

To all DJs, if you would be interested in spinning a pre recorded show or live(depends on your technological know how). I am offering 1hr and 2hr spots to those djs who want to get added exposure, all I could offer is a place for you to get your talent/ skill to the masses through internet radio. If you spin any of the above genres any styles, it does not matter as long as its quality and hot. We already have 5

To all Artists (rappers, singers, beat makers, etc...), if you have content that can be played on any of the six stations please reply. All underground and myspace artists get their own show on Mondays, if you are
BDS and or your music is available through various record pools, I can report how many times your song was played on a weekly basis. 3 months free to try.

I am one of the only stations that can play your song the fastest (example, if you send me a song at 1pm by 1.04pm I am cueing it to be played(depending you have the song properly tagged and not to big of a file). I promise, I will take it a step further, my
AIM is thebestjams
And you can always find me online. I am always reachable.

If you would like to write a few words simply click on CD and you can read a bio or info about that cd and then leave a comment. Easily accessed so you can check on it daily, no hassles at all. All I would need is a Pic, description and a sample of the song or links, ie youtube, rapidshare, etc... This is free for 3 months as well.

Oh and one more thing, if you are into movies, please check out www.thebestjams.com/movies this is to keep up with the movies that are coming out and a spotlight on that area of entertainment. I thank you all for reading this email, I hope you or someone you know will be in contact with me. Peace, Brother John
