Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Bri-G (RPM
Promo/Mixtapes-New York): "Sometimes
a DVR is your best friend. Other times Lost runs 5
minutes late and the damn DVR cuts off just as your
about to find out who the doctor is that’s taking care
of Sayid, so you have to call a friend who of
course is not picking up his phone to find out what the
f#ck just happened. Eventually I got a hold of him and I
found out, but it wasn’t the same as watching it. Can’t
ABC account for an extra freakin’ 5 minutes in
their schedule so my damn DVR doesn’t cut off.
I’m
sure I’m not the only one who felt obligated to lead off
his mixshow this weekend with Kanye’s Dear Mama
performance live from the Grammy’s. It’s amazing
the clarity you can get these days by just recording
something off YouTube. Remember back in the day
when you had to tape shit right from the TV into a mini
disc recorder? Gotta love technology.
Speaking of the Grammy’s, I was shocked to find out how
many people have no idea who Daft Punk is. If I
hear, who were those guys pushing the buttons during the
Kanye thing one more time, I may
So
last Saturday I DJ'dt my usual Saturday night spot. It’s
kind a mix of stock brokers, models, and other random
rich people who pay $800 for a bottle of Goose. They all
think they’re very cool, but you’d never know that from
hearing the sets I have to play. I literally can’t play
anything new. Nothing. I cleared the dancefloor with
Ching-A-Ling. Completely cleared it. Let this be a
lesson, older rich white people don’t like Ching-A-Ling…but
they’ll go nuts for some Bob Sinclair. Don’t even
get me started about how happy they get over OPP and
Rump Shaker.
If I
didn’t know that Diamond Girl was a Ryan Leslie
song, I’d swear Teddy Riley was making a crazy
comeback. At least he didn’t steal Teddy’s whole look
like a certain Chicago R&B singer did to Teddy’s GUY
band mate.
I
fell for the marketing ploy and bought a Bowflex the
other day. Little did I know, it comes in several
hundred separate pieces. Would anyone like to come by
and build it for me? My friend/landlord DJ Raize
and I are very lazy so if somebody doesn’t come do it
for us, it may remain in 5 separate boxes for the next
few weeks.
I
knew Roger Clemens was a filthy stinking rotten
liar the day he signed with the Yankees and broke
my heart. Now, we just have documented evidence to the
fact. Thanks Roger.
Other
documented facts from 2008 include:
The
Knicks are terrible.
Universal Music
will
sign anyone with
BDS
spins.
The
use of spell check is not big in the DJ community.

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver): "s
that I have been a fan of now for like a decade.
Firstly, we had Akrobatik from Boston talk about
his approach to creating banging Hip-Hop and I am
definitely looking forward to peeping his sophomore
album "Absolute Value" on Fat Beats on Feb.19th.
He guaranteed us that this album is going to be a
Hip-Hop lovers favourite. In addition, we caught up with
Planet Asia in between his many studio sessions and
right before embarking on his upcoming European tour.
Planet Asia has been repping Fresno hard for years
releasing music that not only hits you in the head
lyrically, but also makes you want to move your feet. So
I highly recommend you peep this interview and check his
back catalogue, his last album was "The Jewelry Box
Sessions" while we wait for his next album"...
Raw-B
(KUSF-San Francisco): "What
up Peoples! This past Sunday was the 2 year anniversary
of the passing of the late great James Yancey aka
J-Dilla, so we paid tribute. Dude has an incredible
catalouge and will be sorely missed for a long time. To

(805HipHop.com):
Man!
Last week was hella dead for me with the move and
everything, but this week is a lot better! My studio is
almost back up. So get ready for some new Mixtapes
coming out from D-Tragic/805HipHop.Com real soon!
Commercial and Underground Mixtapes are on my schedule
for now! Also, I am getting more Christian Hip-Hop (Look
for Priesthood, Jeremiah the Prophet,
Second Chance and Big Milla) that is sounding
pretty dope! You know you gotta check those out. Nothing
better than some DOPE Hip-Hop Music with a good message!
Not trying to get you to go to church or anything, but
this music DOES make a difference with all of the

Last
weeks call w/ GURU of GANGSTARR and
SOLAR of 7 Grand Records was real
informative! It was really dope to learn more about what
GURU is up to, how he is feeling about the game, and to
learn the real about SOLAR! (By the way, that’s my
cousin’s name as well). I’m looking forward to building
w/ 7Grand Records on their upcoming projects. Solar
dropped some pretty cool names on their roster to look
out for. I’ll be sure to keep up with Tasha Denham
to keep us laced up with that fire they are putting
out in 08!

"WARNING: Neither of the links listed below are what I
would call "work friendly". You have been warned.
If you have some free time and are looking for a good
laugh, check out these graphs that represent some of
Hip-Hop's more memorable songs:

They're so funny, maybe they will get signed to T.I's
new Grand Hustle Comedy Division. Yep - you read
it correctly. I think considering the bind he is in T.I.
might want to consider seeking out legal talent rather
than comedic talent. But then again I'm not sure who's
running Grand Hustle's Comedy Division - T.I. or
T.I.P. Which one took the rap for the lousy album
sales?
If you are looking for another guffaw, check out this
clever marketing ploy that one rap group used to grab
exposure off of the Nas album title controversy:

Savvy (KSJS-San Jose): "Peace
to MC Lyte for calling in and giving an awesome
interview. She's a legend and inspiration on so many
levels and it was a true honor to have her be a part of
the show. We touched on the involvement of women in
Hip-Hop, the direction of where Hip-Hop music going
today, and also the different organizations she is
involved with ( Make sure to check out Hip Hop
Sisters on Myspace). Most importantly, her
new project "Beautiful" with Almost September #1
on my charts. MC Lyte briefly mentioned a new album to
soon be released, "Back to Lyte." Chicago's 3rd Rail
(WNUR), AJ Woodson (TheBestJams.com),
Chill Will (WCBN-MI) & DJ Frresh (KPSU-Portland)
all have shared the experience of interviewing this
legendary icon on their show. So keep your eyes for the
LYTE and ears open yall'! Peace"...
