While Blue Scholars is locking ish down, Maharaji about to drop his solo joints & is puttin' my hometown of Seattle back on the Hip-Hop map, get ready for artist Orbitron to do the same. Props to L.A.'s Mike Nardone (see photo above) for bangin' Orbitron's tracks on his KXLU show. "B-Boy Universal" (Beacon Skillz) is an album not to be slept on. Orbitron spits the real Hip-Hop flavor & sound that's been missing from the "206" for quite a long time. His DJ Tecumseh is quick on the fader & adds a great touch with his scratching skills over Orbitrons tracks. BIZZY BONE, 50 CENT, CHINGY, MAINO, OTHERS COLLABORATE ON NOTORIOUS B.I.G. TRIBUTE
Just days before the 11th anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G., rapper Bizzy Bone has joined a host of other rap superstars in recording a special tribute to the slain New York rapper.

The song, "Can I Speak to Biggie," also features 50 Cent, Chingy, Maino, Bobby Valentino, R&B singer Chris Notez, and New York rapper/ songwriter H.B. "Hav-Boy" Monte, who also executive produced the project.
Monte said "Can I Speak to Biggie" is the first tribute of its kind."This is the first tribute that has not been affiliated with Bad Boy Records and everyone that I reached out to was happy to do it," he says. "Nobody even wanted any money for doing this." Monte said the idea for the song, which promotes a positive message and features artists from every coast, was born out of a conversation he had with Ma$e and Jadakiss during which they discussed the idea of doing a song that would pay homage to Biggie. "I had the vision," he said. "The studio that I work out of is in Bed-Stuy where Biggie was raised, the block that he was on everyday and that conversation between Ma$e and Jadakiss just kept running through my mind so I called a bunch of people that I thought would be great for the record – people who had meaning whether it meant past, present or future."

Bizzy Bone said his participation in the recording was a "no brainer.""I didn't even have to think about it," he said. "How could I not want to pay tribute to such an amazing spirit and talent as Biggie. It is an honor to be a part of this."

Monte said he will continue to do Biggie tributes each year using different artists. He added that the song is being released to radio stations nationwide today and tomorrow and he hopes to tie the song into "Notorious," the upcoming Fox Searchlight biopic on Biggie. He said he also plans to release exclusive behind-the-scenes video footage from the recording sessions. HERE'S THE

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver): "Two big guests on our "The Urban Renewal Project. Firstly, we had Bishop Lamont aka Mr. Next Too Blow in this Hip-Hop game talk candidly about being signed by Dr. Dre, the necessity for rappers to step their game up, and what we can and should expect on Dr. Dre's highly-anticipated project "Detox". Although, we have to wait on Bishop's solo album "Reformation" as he is highly involved in the "Detox" project right now. In the meantime, fans can check out his "Pope Mobile" and "Caltriot" mixtape for free on his www.myspace.com/bishoplamont  and believe me when I say these mixtapes are better then most albums.
In the second hour, we talked to another rapper who is also about raising the bar and giving back the love to his supporters, S.O.U.L. Purpose. Right now, he has got a hot single and video for the "The Way We Live" joint and be on the look out for the full-length, "The Constuction" dropping April 28th. Check out both these interviews as well as all the great music we played last night at: www.urpradio.podomatic.com...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "I was in Maine recently, and the cold up there is different then the cold in VA. Up there it's a "dry" cold and I can dig the "dry" cold more then the "wet" cold in VA. It was at least 15 to 20 degrees colder on average up there and I was able to go outside with just a jacket on and still feel comfortable. And the snow was refreshing. I know that sounds crazy, but I actually miss the snow. Got to play with my kids in the snow, and ride the snowmobile a few times. Always good being able to relax with the fam and enjoy the outdoors (need to do that more often). The weather in VA is almost spring like right now, but that's nothing new for the big VA.
On the music side of things, music has been slow coming in, but I do have to shout out the new Akrobatik album, DOPE. His post about lack of sales and downloading is so very true, but thanks to the digital changes over the years this is only going to get worst. I can see Akro's side of the story, but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel so to speak on this digital downloading thing. Yes, it's affecting sales, but it can be a blessing. Have to embrace it, and figure out how to use it to your advantage. I don't know the numbers but I think one group that has benefitted from this new digital downloading is Little Brother. I think they are still doing
fairly well on their sales, but they have also been able to build a huge fan base by posting tracks for download on their MySpace
page. They have been able to benefit from allowing digital downloads, and their shows seem to always be packed. That shows something for their approach to embracing the new digital technologies. The days of the old "business model" (new buzz phrase lately) are GONE. If any label, or acts try to hold on to that model then you can garantee some level of failure. I am old school myself, and miss the vinyl servicing days, and white label records showing up with no titles on them. I also miss being able to hit up RECORD shops to dig through the vinyl, but there are very few of those left, and the selection of any vinyl is sad to say the least. I'm glad I came up in the days of that and having to wait for the albums to drop or the single to be shipped and going to vinyl shops to buy the single or finding something dope in the dollar bin, but I realize that I have to stay up with technology too. I have yet to get my hands on Serato or any other digital vinyl system, but it's coming. I have to get that to be able to keep up with the MP3 servicing that has replaced vinyl. The argument can go on forever, and the debate about staying true to vinyl will continue, but technology is only going to continue to evolve. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but we have to embrace the new technology and use it to our advantage. That doesn't mean we have to replace our vinyl or get rid of it, but we do have to embrace the new technology in some kind of way or we going to be left out eventually. Hit me up at:
inthecrates@hotmail.com for priorities
inthecrates@gmail.com for MP3s....

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "Man it’s getting hot out here in Cali! Im not sure if it is just the weather or all this heat that I am getting in from labels. I am feelin the return of Hip-Hop Classics. That New RAKIM “It’s Nothin” joint is FIRE! Also The Roots new joint “75 Bars” is hella flammable – Keep the good music spinnin!! Also 2ND II NONE is stepping back on the scene with a couple new joints. The first single “Mz Pacman” is a nice track to put in the streets. I just finished listening to the new Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross. Those are albums to definitely pick up!!

With the new music coming in, I wanted to let you know I see a nice steady rise in the Conscious Rap Segment. I have received some tight cuts from: Priesthood, Big Milla and 2nd Chance.

With huge rap successes like Talib Kweli Droppin serious game like in “Hostile Gospel” on Warner Bros., I hope to see more righteousness put in the music soon!"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I have to thank the good people at Str8hiphop.com for bringing to my attention this very odd advertisement featuring Lil Wayne for "Strapped Up" condoms. I guess I don't really get a good vibe when I see Wayne bent over the hood of a car with a grimace on his face while another man is positioned behind him. I think if I were in Wayne's position in this photo, I'd be praying that the other guy was "strapped up".

Speaking of things that make you grimace how about Papoose and Remy Martin as a couple? Talk about two people who shouldn't procreate. This would be like the kid from "The Mask" and Ugly Betty having a baby together. We'll just have to hope that the prison that Remy gets sent to disallows conjugal visits, or that during their next rumble Fat Joe uses his "TS" piece to slash Papoose's ball bag like he did Cuban Link's face.

Speaking of mutants, how much of an alien does this New York Governor look like? I think somebody feed him after
midnight or got him wet. It just amplifies the humiliation for his wife who had to stand at the podium and realize that women were paid to have sex with this disfigured goon while she did it for free"...
