Wordsmith
is
pleased to announce he signed a 2 year
solicitation/marketing deal with Japan's biggest Urban
Radio Station & Company "Joint One." Word's music &
image will be solicited to all of
Japan
and Asia to create awareness of his forthcoming
projects. Word had this to say,"It is truly an honor
to be doing business with Joint One because we have had
a working relationship over the past two years. They
have supported alot of my music by giving me airplay in
Japan,
so I could create a fanbase overseas. Now, I look
forward to becoming a household name in Japan/Asia with
the ultimate goal being to release my debut album and
tour over there sometime in 2008 or early 2009. I have
to give a big thanks to Shuzz for pushing the envelope
and making this deal happen."
RVUP
International Music Services:
Wordsmith continues to make serious moves overseas by
teaming up with RVUP (Rhythmic Visions &
Underground Promotion) in the
UK.
Word is very thankful a company like RVUP saw his vision
and the potential he has to be a universal artist. With
music playing on some UK stations since 2006 and Word
finally making it over for two shows in November of
2007, this was a natural step for him. Owners,
Danielle & Nina have a great vision for
promoting US artists in the UK and they clearly have a
good grasp of the market over there.
2008

signed a deal that will have him touring the UK from
November 4th-December 7th. Word will be performing at
venues in England, Ireland, Wales, & Scotland, so stay

HOLLYWOOD
BLACK FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES OPENING NIGHT
FILM
HBFF 2008 will open with World Premiere of "Two
Turntables and a Microphone"
Jam Master Jay Documentary Features Appearances
by Russell Simmons, Reverend Run, Jay-Z,
LL Cool J and 50 Cent
The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) today announced
that "Two Turntables and a Microphone," a music
documentary about the life and untimely death of Jam
Master Jay with guest appearances by Russell Simmons,
Reverend Run, Jay-Z, LL Cool J and 50 Cent, will have
its world premiere as the opening night film of the 2008
Hollywood Black Film Festival. One Village
Entertainment, the film's distributor, will sponsor the
opening night gala which includes the world premiere
screening and old school Hip-Hop after-party.
"I am particularly excited about showcasing this film.
Not only am I a native New Yorker, but I'm a true fan
who grew up listening to Jam Master Jay spin with Run
DMC.
This movie highlights the life of an extraordinarily
talented artist who will always be remembered as one of
hip hop's true legendary innovators. I can't think of a
better way to commemorate Jam Master Jay then at the
opening night of the Hollywood Black Film Festival,"
says Tanya Kersey, founder and director of The Hollywood
Black Film Festival.
On
October 30, 2002 - Legendary hip-hop DJ Jason Mizell,
aka Jam Master Jay, was gunned down in his Queens
studio. Security tapes of the incident mysteriously
disappear, the five witnesses are uncooperative and no
one is talking, until now.
"Two Turntables and a Microphone" documents the
investigation of the unsolved murder of Jam Master Jay,
RUN DMC's groundbreaking DJ and producer, deftly
revealing the history of hip-hop and mainstream rap
along the way. Exclusive, candid interviews with 50
Cent, Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, RUN DMC and more offer
insight into Jam Master Jay's life - including
information that could finally help police solve the
murder that shook the music world to its core.
"This is an amazing time for us. We, at
One Village, are extremely proud to offer this film to
the public" says, Brett Dismuke, Vice
President of Acquisitions & Urban Programming for
Image Entertainment & head of its One Village
Entertainment division. "Two Turntables and a
Microphone is an outstanding film that not only
celebrates the life and career of one of hip-hop's
pioneers but it also gives us a history lesson as to how
this worldwide phenomenon came about".
The world premiere screening will take place on Tuesday,
June 3,
8pm
at the Writers Guild Theater in
Beverly Hills, California. Following the screening there
will be a Q&A with the director, producers and some of
the cast. An old school hip-hop themed after-party will
follow. Tickets for the Opening Night Gala are $75 each
and tickets are limited .
The festival runs June 3-8. For ticket or more
information please visit

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
JayThreeOh (WITR-NY): "Yes! Yes!! YES!!!
Today's topic is what needs to be discussed on a regular
basis. I love KRS-One! "It's time to settle all
these beefs, man... ayo, Nelly, Help me!" Speaks
volumes, for real! The track is a good look, and
Ne-Yo on the hook, yes! Doc and Meth,
Busta, Kweli, Game and like two
voices I couldn't pick out. I think I heard Wise
Intelligent...? Whatever, I know this shit is
getting added to constant rotation on my show.
In the same vein, okay... I'm from
Brooklyn,
but
Roc
City
has
held me down for nuff years now. That's why this joint
is special to me. Joell Ortiz, one of the best
young cats in the game (along with Crooked I), is
on this joint to rep BK. Then, Dante' Hawkins on
the hook, and DJ Green Lantern on the boards,
both from
Rochester,
NY...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver,
BC): "First off sorry to all those who look forward to
my update it is alittle late, but when you read the
details of last nights show you will forget all about my
tardiness. Last night we had several guest join us.
Let's name drop Kooley High, Reks and this
new hungry duo repping Vancouver and worth checking out,
Junior Vic.
www.urpradio.podomatic.com
We were joined by Kooley High this hot new group from
North Carolina consists of six individuals who
originally met in University and now are focusing on
their MECCA movement, which is not only committed
to bringing light to Kooley High's talents, but to other
artists that exists around them. They currently have one
of the hottest college/mixshow singles out with that
"Water" joint, which is fire (no pun attended). In
addition, make sure you peep the accompanying EP "The
Summer Sessions". This EP contains more quality/timeless
music just in time for summer.
www.myspace.com/kooleyhigh. We were also
joined by
Boston
native, Reks, last night. I have been a fan of his music
since he dropped the "Science of Life" 12-inch several
years back. However, I was still schooled as Reks let me
know his connection to super DJ/producer dates back to
the day when Statik was his DJ. Crazy! I will
tell you what is even crazier the tracks that I have
already heard from his upcoming album dropping this
summer, "Grey Hairs"; apparently we have not even heard
the lead single yet, which is produced the one and only
DJ Premier. It is refreshing to hear more and
more MCs addressing the wackness in the game and Reks
let us know that this was his focus and mentality going
into the "Grey Hairs" album. I can't wait!!!.
www.myspace.com/reksmdiesel...
Adam
Lowenstein (WMHB-ME): "Things
are getting busier and busier around here as finals
approach and we start to make plans for the summer
season at WMHB. Sorry if I've been out of touch
recently--I'll be catching up with everyone as soon as I
make it through these next few weeks. Still, hit me if
you need anything! Peace"...
DJ
Static (CKUT-Canada): "Just
wanna give u headsup that I won't be able to do my
weekly chart this week. I'm off to Europe on tour for
the next 11 days"...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"Boy that Hannah Montana is some little skank,
huh? I've never seen so much press for a bare shoulder.
With Britney Spears officially giving in to
dementia, the celeb stalking media monsters have to find
America's next teen sweetheart to dismantle. Miley
Cyrus, who seems to me a pretty normal adolescent,
didn't exactly pose for "Hustler". But leave it to the
TMZs and Entertainment Tonights to make some
artsy photo sound like it was a porno with her
co-starring alongside Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Speaking of porn, why is it that when the actors in the
film are unknown, it's porn, but when they are
celebrities, it's a "sex tape"?
As if Miley Cyrus wasn't enough of a corrupt influence
on your kids, don't let them get anywhere near a copy of
"Grand Theft Auto IV". Since it's the first violent
video game ever, obviously it's a huge story. Not that
I'm camping out anywhere to buy
GTA
IV, but the game is clearly labeled for adults and
should be sold as such. However, I don't think that it's
going to inspire the next Columbine-style attack. If
"Duck Hunt" didn't do it, than nothing will.
Speaking of Columbine-style attacks, authorities in
Florence, South Carolina arrested 18 year old Ryan
Schallenberger after he plotted to bomb his high
school. Schallenberger went on to explain to the
authorities that he wanted to die, go to heaven, and
kill Jesus. Now I'm not one to condescend to a criminal
genius like Ryan Schallenberger, but I feel comfortable
hypothesizing that if you believe in Jesus, you
probably believe that he's omnipotent. So go ahead brave
Ryan Schallenberger, and use your belt to hang yourself
from the top bunk of your jail cell. Just don't be
shocked when you get to the front door in heaven and
your key doesn't fit the lock"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"Aight.. what the hell is going on with these oil
companies? The gas has gone up 10 cents since last
night. That is some ridiculous shit. Just as I said last
week, I expect regular unleaded to hit 4 dollars by the
time Memorial Day Weekend gets here, and wouldn't be
surprised if it gets close to 5 dollars a gallon by the
end of summer. And the average working man/woman is
supposed to survive with gas increasing like this plus
pay for the food that is increasing to cover the
increases in the price of gas? Don't be surprised to see
more crime jumping off this summer. History has a
tendency of repeating itself.. just watch.
And I'm all for helping out mother earth and cutting
back on pollution, carbon footprinting, etc. but if I
recall back to when I was a kid this same "save the
earth" kick that is taking place now is becoming a
"cool" thing to do once again. All this going "green" is
becoming one big cash cow for those companies that have
followed suit and started pushing "green" products. I'm
not mad at them because companies are all about making
money, but if you going to preach this "save the planet"
line, at least go through and really make good on that
claim. Does anyone else get the feeling that they are
getting shafted and can't do anything about it with the
gas increases, slow or lack of raises from their
employers, and lay offs. I can't help but think that the
big oil companies are raping all of us, and they know,
and the powers that be know it, but won't do anything
about it because somehow they are profiting from it as
well. It's a big pay-o-la scheme and the average
consumer is the one suffering the most, because shit
rolls down hill. okay, I'm off my soapbox now.
Oh yeah, on the music tip. What the hell is up with that
track "Let me smell yo dick" (for real, youtube
that shit).. I know I'm not the only one that knows
about this track. I have heard chicks actually say this
to their man when I was growing up, but never though
someone would actually make a song about it. Some things
should never make it's way out of the neighborhood and
out to the masses"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly): "Its on again. The Flyers
are winning another series they should be losing. The
Sixers are playing
Detroit
tough
and the Phils are getting it together slowly but
surely. I went back and listened to the Thriller 25 this
week and I kind of like Kanye West's remix to
Billie Jean. Hearing it in my car makes me like it a
little more. The Girl Is Mine and PYT are straight fire.
Those other remixes not so much.
Penn Relays was fun and all that good stuff with
the Jamaicans raising their flags a lot of national
pride was on display at Franklin Field. Big shouts to
the Eleanor Roosevelt from
Maryland their girl's team was sick. Shouts to Long
Beach Poly from Cali too, they didn't win but they
gave a good effort it can be tough on the east coast yah
mean. Shout to the Jamaican schools that repped too,
Calabar ( who for the longest I thought they were
saying Shalamar), St.Jago, Vere Tech, Kingston
College, Holmwood, Edwin Allen and all the rest that
made the trip. Can't wait till next year"...
Papa-D
(Rap
Network): "Peace yall! Again, I am keeping it short
as I have my last two law school exams ever this
week...that's right, as of Thursday I will be done for
good! I'm in crazy crunch time mode because instead of
studying, I have been wasting my life playing GTA
IV...and i am going to game 1 of the Celtics v.
Cavaliers.Peep
www.papadpromo.com for all new ish, including
the new CAEN Project song "Ambush".....
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.Org):
"Progress! I think most of you know that my show airs in
two places. Kazzeo and I have been holding down
90.9 KHDC in the Bay Area for years and the show
also airs on RadioBoise.org based out of Boise,
Idaho. I am happy to announce that Radio Boise was
approved for our FCC license. We have secured the
FM frequency of 89.9 and are in process of filing
for our call letters. This is huge. Think about the last
time there was a brand new station in your market - not
a name change on an exsisting frequency - but a brand
new station! It was an all out battle and we had to go
toe to toe with some major religious organizations who
tend to pool their money and buy up stations across the
country. This is a major win for us and we are very
excited about. There is a ton of work behind launching a
new station so we are probably still a year out from
broadcasting over the air. We now have permission to
begin building our broadcast transmitter and will go
hard on fundraising to support our capital investments.
As
always, my shows are posted on
www.djjasond.com or go to
www.myspace.com/djjasond to see the playlist
and show links"...
DJ
Savvy (KSJS-San Jose): "I just wanted to let
you all know that I will be out of the country from
April 22 - May 7 and will have very limited access to
email. Last charts will go out April 21. I don't have
anyone filling in for me but I will be catching up with
you when I get back. mmmmkay?!" Peepout DJ Savvy as she
