One
of my favorite shows returns this Wednesday night! "Run's
House" new season debuts on MTV on
July 16!...
Back in the day, Hip-Hop' s original bad boy and former
member of 2 Live Crew, Luther "Luke" Campbell
paved the way for freedom of lyrical expression by
challenging America's justice system. Now Luke is
getting a taste of his own medicine as he tries to
protect his two children from today's raunchy
influences, just as parents tried to do with his music.
For the first time, this notorious bachelor is settling
down and trying to separate business and family life.
Welcome to Hip-Hop artist/producer/entrepreneur Luther
"Luke" Campbell's world.
Premiering on VH1 on Monday, August 4th at 10 PM
ET/PT, "Luke's Parental Advisory" gives viewers a look
inside the day-to-day life of the man who introduced the
"booty-shaking" element to Hip-Hop known as "Miami
Bass," and won the music industry's biggest freedom of
speech battle in the Supreme Court which resulted in
warning labels on music. Today, Luke's hands are full
with planning his wedding to Kristin, a
successful lawyer and beautiful 27 year-old fiancée,
giving his 17-year old daughter Lacresha's
boyfriend the third degree, and confiscating pornography
tapes from under 15 year-old Luther Jr.'s bed.
Also central to Luke's life are his weekly trips to the
local barbershop, Cut It Up, where the lively regulars
listen to Luke pontificate and then bring him right back
down to size.
But make no mistake, Luke Campbell has not totally
traded in his former lifestyle for the straight and
narrow road. Luke vows to have the bachelor party of all
bachelor parties, plans to wear hip-hop attire instead
of a tuxedo, and wants a cake designed as a silhouette
of a woman on his wedding day. Luke and his family and
friends will also be active on FamousVh1Friends.com - an
innovative new social network that allows fans to
connect directly with every member of the cast, view
their personal pictures and video blogs and meet other
fans of the show.
What do you get when you mix in, "The Big Beat" along
wit Kwame's production skills & a dope MC?
Beyond Belief "Don't Touch" (Make Noise).
This is a "MUST NOT SLEEP ON HIT TRACK" & our Rap
Attack panel will get serviced with the cd
single. You can peep Beyond Belief at:
www.myspace.com/beyondbeliefmusic...
With
electronica music on the rise & mixing that genre of
music with
Hip-Hop, than you gotta peepout Jamie Drastik with "Now
or Later." Jamie Drastik comes up with a new, fresh, and
exciting sound that works equally well for the dance
floor as it does for radio, “Now or Later”. Hailing from
upstate New York’s Wappingers Falls, Jamie’s unique vibe
is in the forefront of music genre bending. Somewhere
between electro, Hip-Hop, and pop, this indie artist’s
debut release “Now Or Later” is instant to the ears. You
can check him out at:
http://www.myspace.com/jamiedrastik. Big
ups to my homegirl, DJ Gyrl 6 for hittin' me up
with this new track...
This
is what we do this for. The Rock Steady Crew will
mark their 31st anniversary later this month in NYC
during a four day celebration which will include a
basketball event and a historic concert on Sunday in
Newark, New Jersey. Rock Steady Crew president and
legend Crazy Legs told a media outlet: "Our goal
is to always provide the global community with a nice
balance of Hip Hop that caters to people who support all
elements of our culture"...
The owner of the house in
Hong Kong
where Bruce Lee lived before his death in 1973
has announced plans to turn the building, above, into a
museum dedicated to Lee, the martial arts movie star,
giving in to public outcry that the home not be sold.
The two-story, 5,600-square-foot town house is in the
Kowloon
area of Hong Kong. Yu Panglin, 86, a real estate
tycoon and prominent philanthropist, had put the house
up for sale but told reporters that he had decided to
donate the property to Hong Kong’s government for use as
a museum...
West
Coast Mafia Records
continues to build on their impressive track record in
the rap game with the first of two August releases from
the Californian rap icon C-Bo.
West
Side Riders 4
drops on August 5th and is the first release under the
label's new distribution deal with independent
powerhouse, KOCH.
Over
the years C-Bo's West Side Riders series has sold
over 200 000 units and this fourth volume is set to
deliver the goods once again, and demonstrate C-Bo's
continued growth as an artist. West Coast Mafia label
mates Killa Tay, Young Bleed, Big-o,
Young Chaz, Streets, Spade all
contribute in addition to the Outlawz,
Yukmouth, Realist and more. Tracks such as
"Jays On My Feet" and "Riding for Mines" are sure to
make an impact both with C-Bo's core fanbase and DJs
nationwide. West Side Riders 4 is destined to be another
street classic.
C-Bo
stands out as having one of the most consistent careers
in rap music, as both an artist and a businessman. He
has been releasing records on his own label for more
than a decade and has sold more than two million units
independently, routinely moving 100 000 units on a
single release. He has also personally contributed to
albums by best-selling artists including 2Pac,
Master P, E40, Too $hort, Luniz,
Scarface, Yukmouth, Jazzy Phae,
Lil Flip, Baby Bash, Dr Dre, Spice
1 and more. Over the years C-Bo and West Coast Mafia
have developed a strong fanbase with an almost cult-like
demand for his music. By consistently cultivating a
solid relationship with this audience, the label has
been able to grow, allowing it to develop a stable of
artists.
C-Bo
garnered national media attention in 1998 when he became
the only artist to be imprisoned for his lyrical
content. He was charged with violating his parole
because of the controversial, anti-law enforcement
lyrics found on his fifth album, Til My Casket Drops.
"Once they came after me for that, it made me get on the
anti-government, political stuff every album," C-Bo
says. "I had the NAACP come help me. The
government couldn't stop me from saying what I wanted to
say"...
Q-York
and Knowa Lazarus performed live at the Gawad
Kalinga ‘ONE’ event and was able to grace the stage

and Bell Junior High who performed the F.O.B.

GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:
*Grandmaster
Flash details his life story - from his violent
family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable
techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new
autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster
Flash: My Life, My Beats."
"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the
New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we
don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our
hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."
The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this
week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had
with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their
first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.
"She did do some things that in today's world would
probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose
real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule
with an iron fist and we were under fear with her -
although we did make some great records"...
Urban
Music
Alliance
is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of
the Urban market:
More
and more, it has become clear that Urban Artists are
being treated unfairly by record labels and management
alike, there is little opportunity for them to be
exposed in the US and Global markets, and that limited
exposure generally rewards the record Labels and
Management to a far greater extent than the artists who
do the hard work. Urban Music Alliance is
addressing that disparity, giving Artists an opportunity
to sell their product Internationally at Royalty Rates
generally reserved for Record Companies, and with
complete transparency.
Urban Music Alliance is a digital media distribution
company that provides various distribution and marketing
services for its Artists/Labels. Our network of digital
retail partners includes all the major distributors such
as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic,
Rhapsody, Napster, Sprint, Verizon
and T Mobile, as well as dozens of newly
emerging outlets. We distribute to retailers around the
world and are tapped into the most efficient delivery
and content management systems in the business. Our
Console allows our clients complete access to view the
status of their sales and releases. Clients can view
where their releases have been delivered, where they are
in the distribution process and most importantly, see a
very detailed sales history. Urban Music Alliance is the
only digital distributor catering to the needs of the
Urban market. For more info email:

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Nesto (WODU-VA): "What's
good people? If you tried hitting me up on email earlier
this week and I didn't respond it's because I have been
without internet access for the past 3 days. Sorry for
any delays.
On a musical note, the local major radio station this
past 4th of July weekend was mixing their asses off. I
normally do not listen to major radio, but on long
holiday weekends the DJs usually mix and this past
weekend the 103 Jams DJ crew for WOWI
radio was killing it. They took it back, forward, and
side to side on the mixes. Everyone of them came with
something different and the mixes were on point.
On a "what the hell are they thinking" note there's this
guy on TV right now trying to catch a King Cobra
snake. This dude catches the damn snake and then
proceeds to hold the damn thing up in front of his face.
Now if the damn thing strikes this fool he's dead, but
that didn't stop the fool from waving his hands in front
of it's face. Luckily dude didn't get bitten, but
DAMN... you couldn't get me even close to a damn King
Cobra, let a lone a damn garden snake. your boy will be
on the move so damn fast you'd think I was in the
Olympics"...

Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"I gotta tip my hat to Ice T for stepping up and
speaking the truth about todays "Hip Hop" scene.
Obviously we know what real Hip Hop is but the millions
of sheep who follow commercial radio and MTV
that are brainwashed by this kindergarten rhyming
needed a reality check. And Ice T stepped up. It was
perfect that he plucked Soulja Boy's card. This
crapper (Kazzeo slang for horrible rapper), is polluting
an already contaminated climate with more plastic, non
bio-degradable verses. And then Soulja jackass can only
respond if he has his two laughing hyena's behind him.
Would they be there laughing at your 3rd grade jokes if
you had no money? 2 leeches for sure. How you can try
and debate what Ice T said is mindboggling. Even more
mindboggling though is that you think Ice T was the guy
who did "Fuck The Police". Hey stupid, you got the wrong
Ice. I'm totally inspired now and next week I will be
debuting my brand new weekly youtube report. Stay
tuned.
Congratulations to my long time radio brother Jason D
on the birth of his son Carlo"...
Adam
L
(WMHB-ME): "Hope you're all enjoying the summer
and staying cool! I'll be around NYC for another month,
so if you're in the area and want to build, hit me up at
(303) 995-3845"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA): "The 4th of July festivities were
entertaining to say the least. The rain kept me off the
Ben
Franklin Parkway
for
the John Legend concert but it was still cool on
tv. I actually went to the Boyz II Men show the
next day. Jazzy Jeff opened up with Yahmeen
and took the crowd through a historical music
timeline. This adds fuel to the fire of why he is
greatest dj of all time. 25,000 people were dancing and
they were all different ages like the music he was
spinning. Something for every era. Boyz II Men sounded
just like they did when I first heard them in 8th
grade(wow did I just say that). The rain had people
scrambling and End Of the Road never had a more true
meaning at that point. Fun all I can say. Sixers
might get Elton Brand and the Phillies
lost 3 out of 4 to the stinkin Mets"...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"This week a lot of people are talking about Geto
Boys member Bushwick Bill announcing his 6th
solo album, entitled "Testimony of Redemption". Although
it is hard to believe that someone has paid money to
finance five other Bushwick Bill solo albums, the real
surprise is that Bushwick Bill is releasing this one as
a gospel hip hop album. Many people think that this is a
strange departure for Bill, but I think that people who
doubt his sincerity aren't really fans of his music.
Bill has always included positive spiritual messages in
his music. For example, check out this poignant piece
from his song "Skitso":
" She begged me not to kill her, I gave her a rose
Then slit her throat and watched her shake 'til her eyes
closed
Had sex with the corpse before I left her
And drew my name on the wall like Helter Skelter"
Bill further asserts his mission to serve Christ
in the soul searching "Coming With That Sh*t":
"I give a f*ck about your b*tch ass
There'll be a lotta motherf*ckas in this world wearin sh*t
bags
F*ck talk, all I do is shoot n*gga
I been pushed too motherf*ckin far n*gga"
Bill even enlightens listeners on how to emulate God
in their own daily routine, in the evangelical gem
"The Other Level":
"And f*ckin two of the finest b*tches around G;
it used to be fun, but now it's gettin borin to me
Constantly f*ckin, f*ckin, f*ckin, f*ckin
Ridin my d*ck like a horse, buckin, buckin"
I don't know about you, but I will be at the record
store the day that "Testimony of Redemption" drops so
that I can begin my spiritual renewal.
As if the return of Bushwick Bill wasn't enough to make
me crap my pants with joy, this week news broke of the
new supergroup "FEM", an acronym for "Females
Earning Money". This trainwreck of a project
features washed up has-beens Amil, The Lady of
Rage, Lady Luck and Babs Bunny. Formed
by DJ "See my career at Tha Crossroads" U-Neek,
"FEM" is hell bent on reminding us how bad the records
these ladies made really were. "None of us are amateurs"
commented gimmick game show winner Babs, whose zero
albums have topped the charts. Look for "FEM" to go the
way of En Vogue. Except for the brief string of
hit records"...

AJ Rok
(TheBestJams.com): "This email was inspired by
what i saw last night on Hip Hop Vs America on
BET.
We are quick to talk about and complain about what's
wrong with Hip-Hop, about the lyrics and images that are
being force fed to out youth, to our young sisters. We
are quick to forward every email about R Kelly,
Don Imus and anything else that negative, but
rarely do we do anything about it. Conversation is good
but its only a start. I am doin promotions for a
Atlanta
based rap group called Vintage Imperial, they
have a new record called GIRLS ROCK TOO! Now I challenge
everyone, especially my sistahs who are tired or the
negative portrayal of females in Hip-Hop.
Listen to this record, if ya feel it, forward to al
your people, post this track on your myspace pages, your
blogs, your black planet pages, your websites, put in on
ya mp3 player, burn to a cd and play in ya cars, play it
for ya daughters and ya sons for that matter. Artists
like these don't receive love for commercial radio and
entities like BET and MTV. These records don't get
written about in your major newspapers or magazines like
Ebony, Jet, and
Essence. So rarely do you know they exist. Today
is your chance to change that.
Now I know this will not single-handedly change the face
of Hip-Hop by itself, but neither does sitting around
the water cooler or wherever complaining about it. But
until we let the world know these kind of records exist,
until we let them know there is real hip hop out there
we cant expect people to play or request these songs. So
I am on a mission to get the word out by any means
necessary and the same way we forward emails with
negative news to everyone in our address books, I
challenge you to do the same with this email.
For more information, for drop request for your shows,
your interview request contact AJ Woodson/ Big
Mouth Ntertainment at 678-548-9904 or
bigmouthntertainment@gmail.com
You want a change, you want to hear something different,
show the major corporations that control what you listen
to and watch that you want more and help me spread the
word about this track and others like this"...
