What's
Upper? Seattle was off tha hook as I was honored to be
a part of Bruce Lee's 35th Anniversary
events (see photo above). A couple of highlights
included the Seattle Art Museum featuring a Bruce Lee
exhibit. Everything from the clothes Bruce Lee wore in
"Enter The Dragon" to his diary showing what his agenda
was on July 20, 1973 (the day he passed away) was on
exhibit. On July 20, 2008 the event ended with the
original members from Bruce's Jun Fan Gung-Fu
club, Bruce's widow & daughter & grand daughter and
hundreds of local heads & fans from all over the world
attended his gravesite to pay respects. Portland was
lots of fun as I got to get back on the mic with DJ
Frresh on his "Fresh Connection" show on KPSU.
And to top off Saturday night was accepting the
"Legendary DJ" award at the West Coast Hip-Hop Awards
held at the Roseland theater. Great to be home cause
there's "NO PLACE LIKE HOME!"...
Props
to Seattle's, Steelo for sharing their time with
our RAP ATTACK CONFERENCE CALL PANEL last Thursday...
Back in the day, Hip-Hop' s original bad boy and former
member of 2 Live Crew, Luther "Luke" Campbell
paved the way for freedom of lyrical expression by
challenging America's justice system. Now Luke is
getting a taste of his own medicine as he tries to
protect his two children from today's raunchy
influences, just as parents tried to do with his music.
For the first time, this notorious bachelor is settling
down and trying to separate business and family life.
Welcome to Hip-Hop artist/producer/entrepreneur Luther
"Luke" Campbell's world.
Premiering on VH1 on Monday, August 4th at 10 PM
ET/PT, "Luke's Parental Advisory" gives viewers a look
inside the day-to-day life of the man who introduced the
"booty-shaking" element to Hip-Hop known as "Miami
Bass," and won the music industry's biggest freedom of
speech battle in the Supreme Court which resulted in
warning labels on music. Today, Luke's hands are full
with planning his wedding to Kristin, a
successful lawyer and beautiful 27 year-old fiancée,
giving his 17-year old daughter Lacresha's
boyfriend the third degree, and confiscating pornography
tapes from under 15 year-old Luther Jr.'s bed.
Also central to Luke's life are his weekly trips to the
local barbershop, Cut It Up, where the lively regulars
listen to Luke pontificate and then bring him right back
down to size.
But make no mistake, Luke Campbell has not totally
traded in his former lifestyle for the straight and
narrow road. Luke vows to have the bachelor party of all
bachelor parties, plans to wear hip-hop attire instead
of a tuxedo, and wants a cake designed as a silhouette
of a woman on his wedding day. Luke and his family and
friends will also be active on FamousVh1Friends.com - an
innovative new social network that allows fans to
connect directly with every member of the cast, view
their personal pictures and video blogs and meet other
fans of the show.
What do you get when you mix in, "The Big Beat" along
wit Kwame's production skills & a dope MC?

This is a "MUST NOT SLEEP ON HIT TRACK" & our Rap

West
Coast Mafia Records
continues to build on their impressive track record in
the rap game with the first of two August releases from
the Californian rap icon C-Bo.
West
Side Riders 4
drops on August 5th and is the first release under the
label's new distribution deal with independent
powerhouse, KOCH.
Over
the years C-Bo's West Side Riders series has sold
over 200 000 units and this fourth volume is set to
deliver the goods once again, and demonstrate C-Bo's
continued growth as an artist. West Coast Mafia label
mates Killa Tay, Young Bleed, Big-o,
Young Chaz, Streets, Spade all
contribute in addition to the Outlawz,
Yukmouth, Realist and more. Tracks such as
"Jays On My Feet" and "Riding for Mines" are sure to
make an impact both with C-Bo's core fanbase and DJs
nationwide. West Side Riders 4 is destined to be another
street classic.
C-Bo
stands out as having one of the most consistent careers
in rap music, as both an artist and a businessman. He
has been releasing records on his own label for more
than a decade and has sold more than two million units
independently, routinely moving 100 000 units on a
single release. He has also personally contributed to
albums by best-selling artists including 2Pac,
Master P, E40, Too $hort, Luniz,
Scarface, Yukmouth, Jazzy Phae,
Lil Flip, Baby Bash, Dr Dre, Spice
1 and more. Over the years C-Bo and West Coast Mafia
have developed a strong fanbase with an almost cult-like
demand for his music. By consistently cultivating a
solid relationship with this audience, the label has
been able to grow, allowing it to develop a stable of
artists.
C-Bo
garnered national media attention in 1998 when he became
the only artist to be imprisoned for his lyrical
content. He was charged with violating his parole
because of the controversial, anti-law enforcement
lyrics found on his fifth album, Til My Casket Drops.
"Once they came after me for that, it made me get on the
anti-government, political stuff every album," C-Bo
says. "I had the NAACP come help me. The
government couldn't stop me from saying what I wanted to
say"...

GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:
*Grandmaster
Flash details his life story - from his violent
family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable
techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new
autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster
Flash: My Life, My Beats."
"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the
New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we
don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our
hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."
The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this
week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had
with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their
first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.
"She did do some things that in today's world would
probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose
real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule
with an iron fist and we were under fear with her -
although we did make some great records"...
Urban
Music
Alliance
is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of
the Urban market:
More
and more, it has become clear that Urban Artists are
being treated unfairly by record labels and management
alike, there is little opportunity for them to be
exposed in the US and Global markets, and that limited
exposure generally rewards the record Labels and
Management to a far greater extent than the artists who
do the hard work. Urban Music Alliance is
addressing that disparity, giving Artists an opportunity
to sell their product Internationally at Royalty Rates
generally reserved for Record Companies, and with
complete transparency.
Urban
Music Alliance is a digital media distribution company
that provides various distribution and marketing
services for its Artists/Labels. Our network of digital
retail partners includes all the major distributors such
as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic,
Rhapsody, Napster, Sprint, Verizon
and T Mobile, as well as dozens of newly
emerging outlets. We distribute to retailers around the
world and are tapped into the most efficient delivery
and content management systems in the business. Our
Console allows our clients complete access to view the
status of their sales and releases. Clients can view
where their releases have been delivered, where they are
in the distribution process and most importantly, see a
very detailed sales history. Urban Music Alliance is the
only digital distributor catering to the needs of the
Urban market. For more info email:

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver
BC): "I had a great weekend in Seattle chilling and
djing with the homie B-Mello. Thanks to Trae
and him for the ride back to hotel; dang the
Americans with their feel pour had the homie feeling a
little past full. In addition, big ups to the other
Seattle
peoples I linked up with: Taybot (looking forward
the album dropping next week) and the New 88 and
Mike C.
As far as the "Urban Renewal Project" we had upcoming
Canadian Hip-Hop duo Kay and Aace roll
through the studio to chat it up about the there
upcoming release "Dream World". These fellas have
already shared the stage with acts such as Snoop Dogg,
Ashanti, Eve, Nas, The Game,
Akon, Rihanna, Truth Hurts, 2
Live Crew, Carl Henry, Shawn Desman,
Keshia Chante, Red 1, Obie Trice,
etc, so you know when "Dream World" drops it is going to
be major. Hear two exclusives from Kay and Aace on last
nights show:
www.urpradio.podomatic.com
In addition last night we also had Justus League
member, Chaudon, join us on the phone line. Even
though, he has got the new album "Carnage"
in-stores now and the single "The Greatest Warrior",
which is one of the top 3 singles right now on the
College charts. But it doesn't stop there for this
driven MC, who is also currently working on a tour
through the US and Canada as well as three brand new
albums all with different themes and sounds. You want to
know more peep the interview!:

Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"There was a time when I would have rushed to the record
store on release day to buy a new Nas record. I
had heard most of Nas' new album before today, and
although I think lyrically its some of his most
provocative work, I can't help but feel like Nas is
slipping into the Canibus/Ras Kass/Chino
XL category: incredible lyricists who can't pick
beats. I'm dumbfounded that Nas has put out another
project without tapping into the talents of past
collaborators like DJ Premier, The Alchemist,
Havoc, or Large Professor. Listening to
recent Nas albums has become like watching new Robert
DeNiro and Al Pacino movies. You really want
to like them, but the magic just isn't there like it
used to be. And what's up with the album cover? I know
that Nas once called himself a "Columbia Records
slave", but I will gladly trade places with him at any
time. If he wants a picture of a slave, he should take a
picture of me sitting at my desk doing paperwork while
he drinks Cristal at photo shoots.
AZ cracks me up too. He always talks about how he
doesn't want people to put him in Nas' shadow, yet he is
ready to drop a new mixtape called "N4L" (I'm sure that
you can figure this one out) featuring a Civil Rights
themed cover (firefighters spraying African Americans
with a hose in the 1960's). That should end the
comparisons I'm sure. I guess the good news is that the
album can't be as bad as "Undeniable", which sucked
harder than Amy Winehouse on a crack pipe.
As I'm typing this, I'm watching the MLB All-Star
game. Josh Groban came out to sing "God Bless
America" wearing a t-shirt that read "All Star Game".
Way to go Josh. I wonder if when he has a concert, he
wears a t-shirt that says "Josh Groban". I guess tonight
his "Douche Bag" t-shirt was in the wash"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"Ok, summer just seems to be flying by and I have not
been able to really enjoy it yet. Got a new job and I
have been in training since April. It's a job I've
wanted to get for a while now, but it's taking it's toll
on me. Don't seem to have as much free time as my last
job, and this new job is pretty serious on employees not
being able to use the internet from work, or use cell
phones at work. So needless to say I haven't been in
contact with a lot of you like I use to be at my last
job. I'm hoping to catch up on some feedback for you all
this week as well so please hold tight on that.
On the musical tip I haven't come across anything lately
that has really moved me. I did get this free mixtape
that DJ Neil Armstrong put out and its not bad.
You should check it if you get a chance. Not all
Hip-Hop, but these days I find that "non-Hip-Hop" music
is holding my attention a little bit more, unless it's
the old school hip hop. Keep blasting the goods, and
hopefully a diamond in the rough will be in the next
batch of tracks.
Oh yeah, what's the deal with the New Yorker
magazine and the Obama cover. I didn't get a
chance to read the article, but the picture alone is a
little sketchy. Hopefully, the article is not what I
think it is, and the picture is something that is being
used to pull people into it to find out the real low
down on Obama and all the false rumors of him being
Muslim, etc."...
D-Tragic
(805HipHop.com):
Just
wanted to cruise thru and let everyone know that we got
some heaters over here! That New Nas Album drops!
I hear you get a free lyric book with your copy too! Im
gonna check that out. I also have been bumpin that
Craig G and Marley Marl “OPERATION TAKE
HIP-HOP BACK”. That’s a album for the heads to check
out! Bishop Lamont holds ground steady while
Ice Cube’s “Do ya Thang” Rises up 1 notch to
#2 on our charts! Be sure to hit me up for those
exclusives and unreleased joints if you don’t already
have them!"...
