Revolutionary Hip-Hop Icon Paris Gives Back, New Album
In-Stores 10/28
Forget spinners and diamonds, Bay Area rapper/activist
Paris is putting his own spin on the "golden
ticket" contest: a college education. Three randomly
placed tickets will be slipped into copies of Paris'
October 28th album, Acid Reflex, on his own
Guerrilla Funk Recordings and Filmworks, LLC,
distributed by Fontana/Universal. With three
guaranteed winners, each prize is a ten-thousand dollar
award redeemable as a scholarship towards any kind of
post-high school education or towards housing expenses.
"We're living in the hardest economic times in recent
memory, and this is a perfect way for me to try to ease
the pain for my supporters," says Paris. "I realize that
money is tight for many people and that music is
becoming less and less of a priority when everything is
rising but wages. This is not only a perfect way for me
to express my gratitude to those who continue to support
me, but to emphasize both the importance of higher
education and the need to continue to support art of
substance."
To
win, you must purchase an Acid Reflex CD at a
physical retail location or online (contest does not
apply to vinyl). Upon opening the CD, winners will
receive notification stating "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'VE
WON
$10,000 FOR EITHER SCHOOL EXPENSES OR HOUSING!" Only
winning CD packages will contain notification and
details for the claiming of prizes. Non-winning CD
packages will not contain notification of any kind. For
more details about this promotion, log onto:
www.guerrillafunk.com after October 1st.
Acid
Reflex comes just in time for election year and
contains commentary on a wide range of topics including
black-on-black crime and violence, the ongoing problem
of police brutality, war, politics and what
Paris
calls "the need for more of an equal balance between
positive and negative influences in entertainment."
Acid Reflex is the latest installment of
cutting-edge funk-and-rock-inspired Hip-Hop in a career
spanning the sale of over 3.8 million units
independently worldwide. It features performances by
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and Parliament/Funkadelic
frontman George "Dr. Funkenstein"
Clinton
and
Public Enemy leader Chuck D. For more

Paris,

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
Ok, what the hell was up with the MTV VMA awards.
They are steadily going downhill every year, and how the
hell did Britney Spears win 3 big awards this
year????? One highlight of the show for me was when MTV
would show Travis Barker and DJ AM doing
their thing. Not a new concept, but feeling how they
were flipping it. Travis live on the drums, an DJ AM on
the wheels. They also dropped a mixtape call Fix Your
Face. Some good stuff up there, a little something for
everyone. Check it out and I think you all will be able
to appreciate it.
Speaking of appreciating stuff. I've been seeing
articles lately that vinyl is on a "come back".
Apparently sales for vinyl have been climbing steadily.
That is great news, but these sales must be mainly
online sales, but honestly I can count on one hand (not
using all fingers either) how many record stores are in
my area. And I know this place is not moving wax in any
great numbers at all. I am glad to see vinyl making a
comeback, but I'm not sure it will comeback to the point
it was at before Serato and others came out. The good
thing is that vinyl is still here. Unfortunately, the
digital age has cut into the vinyl world a lot, and
enough to keep labels from really pushing vinyl anymore,
but there's still some out there so there is hope.
However, can't push technology to the side, so a little
give and take has to happen, especially in todays
standards. I don't know of a radio station (except some
smaller college stations) that do not have Serato
or some other form of Digital DJ setup. It's here to
stay. Some can live without it, but the majority is
going to have to learn to use it to a certain extent"...
DJ
Raw-B (KUSF-San Francisco): "What up folks!
Sorry I haven't gotten too deep with my correspondence.
I've been producing a morning Sports show on KNBR
680AM in SF, in addition to KUSF's BeatSauce. No
worries....I got the music and have your backs. I've
been using alot of the music you promote on the
Commercial station in addition to my DJ sets on KUSF.
Double the BDS. Hope your all chillin. Peaces...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver
BC, Canada): We got things started off this week with
a double shot from Kardinal Offishall's
new album, "Not 4 Sale". This is Kardi's U.S. break out
album (Akon's Konvict Records), and this is
evident with appearances from Akon himself,
The Clipse, T-Pain and Rihanna. Good
for Kardi, putting Canadian Hip-Hop on the map in a big
way and still repping his own flavour!
www.myspace.com/thebashbrothers
We were also joined by the Bash Bros. later in
the show. This MC duo are representing straight from the
Bay Area. They have been doing live shows like crazy
just did "Rock The Bells" in Seattle last week and look
out for them to be representing at Scribble Jam in
Cincinnati on October 25th. Of course they do have the
album out now entitled "Main Event" which has something
for everybody on it no matter your sound.
www.myspace.com/kardinaloffishall
In addition, Gyromite was in the house. He is the
man responsible for our dope website,
www.urbanrenewalproject.net. We got into
some trivia, which was classic. I took this one, in part
thanks to a question about Da Brat. LOL. We also
hit up the number 7 album on MTV's Top Ten Hip Hop
albums of all time, N.W.A.'s "N***az 4 Life".
Check out our thoughts and the rest of the show.
www.urbanrenewalproject.net...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly): "September is almost two weeks
old, and all of my teams look strong. The Eagles
killed the Rams,
Penn
State
buried
Oregon State,
and the Phillies well are the Phillies. I saw one
of the worst videos in the history of Hip-Hop called
It's So Cold In The D. I mean I'm all for trying to
relay a message. But it looks Pookie from New
Jack City is the executive producer. Now knowing what I
know about emcees from Detroit are they going to
tolerate that. First the brawl now this. Al Green's
song with John Legend is my favorite r&b
song.
Mur's
Can
It Be is my favorite Hip-Hop song to date...
Chill
Will
(WCBN-MI):
What's the deal? It's ya manz
Dj Chill Will of the
University of Michigan's
WCBN 88.3fm. Home of "THE PROP
SHOP"
the longest running college radio Hip Hop show in the
mid-west and maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the
show weekly on 88.3 fm in the Ann Arbor/metro Detroit
area. Or at
www.wcbn.org Saturday nights from 9 to
12midnight est. Big shouts to The Kidz in the Hall
who I hung out with at Motivation. Real cool dudes
and Drivin down the block is a banger...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH): "There are a lot of long faces in New
England this week. After stewing in the Super Bowl
loss all off season, the Pats fans here were
looking forward to Tom and The Brady Bunch
racing back to the big show to avenge the loss. But what
was lost was the General himself, in the first quarter
of the first game. Will the plucky back up Matt
Cassel channel the spirit of Jeff Hostetler
and emerge from oblivion to steer the Pats back to
glory? My money is on Cassel shoveling out his driveway
this February rather than gracing the field in Tampa.
An interesting sidenote: imagine if Brett Favre
had stayed retired? He would be at the top of the Pats
list right now and Favre would have a real chance at
winning a Super Bowl this year rather than leading the
unexciting Jets who barely scraped past the
basement-dwelling Dolphins this past Sunday. My
money is on Favre riding his John Deere around
the swamps of Mississipi this February rather than
showing his salt and pepper stubbled mug in Florida.
My gold mine find of he week is Louis Logic &
JJ Brown's "Sin-A-Matic: The 80's Edition".
This economical download flips what was a very dope
album with all new beats that sample 1980's classics.
Peep the song "Diablos" feat. Celph Titled and
RA The Rugged Man which flips Cutting Crews "I Just
(Died In You Arms Tonight)". Not even Will Ferrell
and Horatio Sanz played it this good...
