Rap Attack is BACK online on a NEW server to BEST SERVE you!

Yo, the past few weeks have been crazy in the news. Let's see, O.J. Simpson was found guilty 9 years exactly later to the date he was aquitted for murder, Sarah Palin & Tina Fey meet face to face on Saturday Night Live, the former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell endorses Obama for President & boxing's Bernard Hopkins gave Kelly Pavlik a boxing lesson and a first loss that he will never forget....

This years VH-1 "Hip-Hop Honors" was coo. Seeing Too Short get his props was hella hype for me because I can remember back in maybe 1987 when I was DJ'ing for Sir Mix-A-Lot, one of our first big gigs out of Seattle was in Oakland openning up for this guy named Too Short. I had no clue who this guy was or how scary Oakland females can be. It takes a lot to get me skurred but yo, the females at this show looked harder than NWA or the Geto Boys! And every track I remember Too Short rappin' ended with, "Biyaatch!!!" I was like there's no way people are gonna buy his music. LOL I was sooooo wrong & I ended up playing all his cuts on my radio show in Seattle cause Too Short created such a strong street buzz, I couldn't ignore it. Too Short & I became good friends since & he mos def deserved the props he got on "The Hip-Hop Honors"...

BRI-G SAYS "FAREWELL TO RPM":

"Well guys, this will be my last email to you as an RPM employee. In the almost 5 years I’ve worked here, I’ve gotten to do some amazing things, meet some incredible people, and learn from some of the smartest bosses I’ll ever have. When I first came here, I never would have dreamed that I would have gotten to see and do some of the things that I now take for granted as commonplace. So, while I will still continue work with the good folks over here in several different capacities, my days of being an actual employee and coming to the office everyday are over.

Over the last few months, all the motivation and drive that I had to keep plugging away, doing all that came with my position here just dried up. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I’ve always been a first to arrive, last to leave, anything you need I’ll get done type person. And then one day it just hit me like a ton of bricks…this just isn’t what I want to do anymore.

I first came to New York from Connecticut in the winter of ’03 when my girlfriend at the time got an apartment here. All I wanted to do was DJ, but I had no clue where or how. So I got a street team job at a radio station, an internship for an indy label in the South Bronx (working Ice Shuler’s record), and stayed at her place till I could figure out my life. After I parted ways with the indy label, I took another internship at a place called RPM. After about a month, I was hired on full time…you all know the rest of the story.

I’ve always wanted to DJ here. This is the home of Jam Master Jay, Flex, Clue, Kid Capri, and the movie Juice that inspired me to be a DJ to begin with. This is where I wanted to make my mark in the DJ world. Over the last 5 years, I’ve done a lot of pinch hitting. A spot here, a spot there. Nothing really consistent. It’s that consistency that makes you a better DJ. It’s tough to pinch hit every week when you don’t know what the crowd is like. Rap one night, 80’s and pop the next, electro another…yea, it forces you to read a crowd, but at the same time, your never building anything, you’re never making your mark.

Working the Pepsi DJ Division project has always been special to me. It was my chance to get close with some of the biggest DJs in the country. See how they move and learn from them. But this year I just couldn’t get something out of my head. I’m booking flights and car services for guys. I’m creating power point presentations on what this guy has done, where that guy spins. All the while, in the back of my mind I’m thinking, I don t want to do this for this guy, I want to be this guy. I always have. I’m not jealous of guys like Clinton Sparks and Eric Cubeechee, I just want my shot to be up there and mentioned next to them.

So about a month ago, I had a bit of a melt down and had to break it all down to myself. I need to leave RPM. I need to hit the block and build with the right club promoters. I need to get some indy record projects to put some money in my pocket. I need free afternoons to practice and build sets. I need to be my own boss. I need to bet on myself and take the shot that I never took when I first moved here because I was just some no name kid who needed a job. Unbeknownst to me, that job would turn into the most amazing 4 ˝ years of my life.

I’ve sat 50 feet away and learned from some of the best and brightest people in the industry for almost five years. I don’t think I can go wrong if I just apply everything I’ve learned on myself.

Please lock in my new email: BGaffeyPromo@gmail.com and use it for all future correspondence"...

Acid Reflex comes just in time for election year and contains commentary on a wide range of topics including black-on-black crime and violence, the ongoing problem of police brutality, war, politics and what Paris calls "the need for more of an equal balance between positive and negative influences in entertainment." SITE DEDICATED TO 90'S HIP-HOP by: Jason Gloss

http://philaflava.blogspot.com

www.philaflava.com

We've been getting tons of positive reveiws thus far but we'd like to have your feedback. Please check it out and tell us what you think. If you like, be sure to bookmark or subscribe and of course spread the good word.

Welcome to the official blog of Philaflava.com's T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You) forum. "T.R.O.Y." is of course a reference to Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's ode to their fallen friend (Trouble T-Roy of Heavy D. and The Boyz). If the previous sentence reads like a foreign language to you, don't fret. The purpose of this blog is to explore and celebrate rap music (especially the overlooked and obscure recordings and artists) from about 1987 to 1997, give or take a few years on either end. We are not purists or elitists, just a bunch of proud rap nerds who revel in sharing our discoveries with anyone willing to listen.

Over at the T.R.O.Y. forum we spend most of our work week discussing artists like Scientifik, Godfather Don, K.M.D, Brand Nubian, Mobb Deep, Souls Of Mischief, Avatar the Articulate, Juggaknots and the like. This daily effort results in the uploading of songs and albums previously unavailable in formats other than dusty vinyl, some of which are long out of print. We frequently take the time to compile songs that share similar themes or moods. Just as the rap culture of the '90s (think Stretch and Bobbito, Sway & Tech and countless college and mixtape DJs) demanded that a class of obsessed aficionados isolate and organize the rawest tracks floating below the radar for our listening pleasure, the Internet age demands similar vigilance.

Stay tuned - in addition to providing you with a steady stream of links straight outta T.R.O.Y. we will also be posting mixes and analyses exclusive to this blog, as well as keeping an eye out for the best of what the throwback rap blogosphere has to offer. Consider this your one stop shop for "The Rap Of Yore" - just don't ever call it that...

RACISM FACING 2008 ELECTION? by: DJ Chela

Shouts to my colleagues at the Hip Hop Caucus who registered 30,000 new voters on Tuesday alone with their "Respect My Vote!" campaign. If you
haven't registered, deadlines are almost here in many states, you can register online there now: www.hiphopcaucus.org.

I'm dropping a video blog reacting to what I have seen throughout this election. With all the important issues at hand, many in the white community and media have been dwelling on racially biased beliefs and fears. The vlog is inspired by watching monolithic media coverage, seeing the effect of the "Bubba Vote" in polls, and speaking with my family members who describe what's going on in their communities in Virginia, Georgia and the Carolinas. The process was soul searching,

creative and fun, as I tried to figure out exactly how to address these complex issues. The result I hope is effective... I'd love all feedback.
Through the vlog I'm excited to represent another side of my personality and background--Lauren from NC, that some of ya'll might not know about--a white girl from the South that drinks lemonade out of mason jars, makes pickled okra and knows the lyrics to Shania Twain songs. Might just be something I keep building on, as I figure out how to reach white folks in the United States that I might not see eye to eye with and engage them on love, compassion and healing.

DJ Solo breakin records fri 10 pm to 12 am

"...

DJ Sage (CFRO - Vancouver, BC): "We got things started with a double shot from Foreign Exchange's new disc, "Leaving It All Behind". The duo of Phonte from Little Brother and Dutch producer Nicolay deliver another solid album on Hard Boiled. Check it out if you like some laid back, smooth Hip-Hop or as I like to call it, "baby-making music".

We were joined by Psycho Les of the legendary Beatnuts, who talked with us about their current release, "U.F.O. Files Unreleased Joints" courtesy of Psycho Les's own label Fight Pit Records. Be on the look out for further volumes in the "U.F.O. Files" series. As well as a new Beatnut's album entitled "Planet of the Crates" summer next year.

Mr. Lif also joined us to talk about politics, Nas' catalogue, and premier his own brand new track, "The Sun". We ourselves also took a look at "Illmatic", the classic debut album from Nas. It's ranked number 2 on MTV's Top Ten Hip-Hop albums of all time, which I can't say is really surprising. Check out this show and post a comment on "Illmatic". www.urpradio.podomatic.com...

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "What's up? It's DJ Chill Will of the University of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 fm. Home ofthe longest running college radio Hip Hop show in the Mid-West and maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the show weekly on 88.3 fm in the Ann Arbor/Metro Detroit area. Or at www.wcbn.org Saturday nights from 9pm to 12 midnight est. It's been a good week so far. I heard a new joint from Mickey Factz with the Cool Kidz called Rockin n Rollin if you haven't heard it check for it. Looking forward to hollering at Hip Hop legend Diamond D about his new banger D.I.A.M.O.N.D. And Detroit's own Black Milk and what he's up to so stay tune. If your in the area check me out weekly at Papi O's on Fridays and at Studio 4 on Sundays. For more dates and information about me, DJ Chill Will go to: www.myspace.com/djchillwill734"...

Anilast aka Stuart de la Rosa (KSMT-CO): "The 1st day of the ski season opened today with two of the resorts opening by my house. I can't beileve it's that time agian to strap on our snowboards and go to town or should I say the mountain. Keep the muisc and the interviews coming, I have already booked live artist interviews on my radio show for the next month. Keep it funky fresh yalls: www.RhythmLoungeRadio.com...

Brian "ColdRigourous" Leahy (WHUS-CT): "Whuddup yall, I'm siked cos I'm playing a disco night tomorrow night at Hartford's swankiest nightclub...Promotions are looking good too, I think it's going to go over. Chances are though, there won't be a lot of real serious disco heads there...it is Hartford, after all. What are the top disco jams for non-disco heads? I'm set with Evelyn King, Cheryl Lynn, Anita Ward, Indeep, Cameo, Lakeside, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Barry White, Bee Gees...what are some other good pop disco jamms I should drop in between the Libra and the One Way that I'm not thinking of?"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "Yo the gas is below 3 dollars a gallon. Now I can't believe that shit. I'm hoping it continues to fall in price, especially with the Holidays coming up. I'm also hoping that the typical big layoffs that come during the holidays doesn't take place, but with the economy looking like it is things don't look too well.

Music wise, I'm digging this Kaboose album, and that TI album isn't bad either. On the mixtape tip, check for the new Z-Trip ObamaMix. Nice mix, even if you don't like Obama.

Sports talk. BoSox better get it together or Tampa will be heading to the Series. NFL is really starting to get on my nerves once again. I stopped watching NFL games for a long time, and I'd say maybe 2 seasons ago I started watching a few games here and there. I got tired of all of the criminals in the NFL, and all the bullshit going down in the NFL. Now it looks as if things may be going down hill again for me when it comes to the NFL. I would rather watch college football over the NFL, but I am trying to keep an open mind with the NFL. I'm a fan of the Cowboys, but they are so overated and that last 3 games I watch pissed me off. One thing you can count on with Romo is he WILL throw an interception"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I woke up this morning and double checked to make sure the shades were still tightly drawn. I slunk into my kitchen and dug around in a drawer until I found a pair of scissors. I used them to poke through the paper and cut two circles of the same size about two inches apart. When I was finished, I slid my hand between the folds, expanded them, and slowly dragged the grocery bag over my head before stepping out into the October sunshine. Because that's what you have have to do when your undefeated football team loses to the Cleveland Browns 35-14 on national TV.

At least the Red Sox are dominating. Oh wait. As I write this they are down 5-1 in a strong attempt to tank a second chance faster than Pacman Jones.

I saw on TV this week that Smirnoff is the official Vodka of James Bond. I don't really remember any ringing endorsements by 007 in the few of his films I've seen, and I'm pretty skeptical that the smoothest operator in the history of cinema prefers the swill I used to shoot and chase with Surge in my college dormroom before I was 21. (Bonus points if you remember "Surge"!)

I was at Wal-Mart buying some CD-Rs last night and I noticed that they already have a display of Christmas CDs. I felt like asking the clerk where the Valentine's Conversation Hearts and Cadbury Eggs were. Let's get through Halloween first people, huh? Then I can worry about hearing 75 different Adult Contemporary artists sing "White Christmas" on the radio for two vomitous months.

Speaking of things that make me want to spew all over myself, I've had enough of the media using the suffix "Gate" to describe every scandal that breaks. The original, "Watergate", was a very unique historic scenario and was simply the name of a wack Washington D.C. hotel. The most recent example was Sarah Palin's "Troopergate" and other recent examples from the sports world include the Patriots "Spygate" and the Yankee Stadium "Jerseygate". Enough is enough! Nothing on TV has driven me to such murderous anger since "Dude, Your Getting a Dell". (Honorable mention to that new Friendly's commercial where the Soccer Mom is singing to her carload of bratty kids about how "Ice Cream makes the meal". That one makes me want to drive to a Friendly's and smash every upside down cone head sundae in sight. And then befoul their Men's room with an "Upper Decker". Bonus points if you know what an "Upper Decker" is.)"...

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): "Sorry I took a week off but sometimes time doesn't allow you to do everything. The Phils are goin to the World Series and I'm loving it. I hope the Rays win because the Red Sox will be much tougher to beat but anything is possible. The Birds beat up the 49ers now we feel good in the bye week, and Penn State is the truth my brother is $50 lighter in his wallet now for making silly bets against me(Saying they wouldn't win more than 5 games).

I don't think I will be making it to CMJ this year. This will be the first in like 7 years I won't make, but I shall return next year keep me posted on all the events anyway in case something changes last minute. How about the Flyers fan booing Sarah Palin and then chanting Obama at the Wachovia center hilarious. Till next week"...
