An
Interview w/ Oakland Rapper Ras Ceylon-Babylon will Be
Defeated
by: Davey-D
We
caught up with Oakland rapper Ras Ceylon and
talked to him about his new album 'Scientific Non
Fiction'. It's his second album and it looks to be a
monster.
Among the stand out tracks are cuts he did with Stic
Man of dead prez called 'Better Be
Ready', 'The Damage' featuring
Tragedy Khadafi and 'Many Levels'
featuring Bay Area icons Askari X and Taje
of Souls of Mischief.
The album is a masterpiece full of socially conscious
songs that keep you uplifted and in conversation without
being preachy. There is nothing trite about Ras Ceylon
and his music. He's a man of the people who wants us all
to advance. His album takes bold steps and will not
disappoint.
As for our interview, we started off talking to Ras
Ceylon about his background which Sri Lankan and how
that culture is often overlooked and misunderstood. We
talked to him about him embracing the Rastafarian
religion and how it influenced his music.
We also built with Ras about his revolutionary take on
politics and why he found it important to hook up with
people like Chairman Fred Hampton Jr of the
POCC and have him featured on the intro of this
album.
Ras is a force to be wreckon with in the years to come.
And for those who feel like Hip Hop has lost its sense
of adventure and commitment to politics, Ras Ceylon puts
those nagging doubts to rest...

previously unavailable world-class experts in an easy

With this expert feedback and the opportunity to view
the other student's artist/student exchanges, progress
is unlimited.
DJ Qbert says "It's cool that Skratching has so many
fans around the world and we can all be in one place now
and learn from each other no matter where we live."
Qbert's entire method is going to be presented and
available at all times, so students can learn at their
own pace and move around the lessons if they prefer.
Although the lessons are progressive and get more
difficult, they will never go away. Qbert will also be
posting some videos from the road, competitions etc. The
students will have a personal area where they can post a
few of their own videos of themselves Qbert will
critique the student video submissions with a response
video or a written text assessment and give them an
assignment if need be. The introductory fee will be
extremely affordable at $60 for 3 months.

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Garbs
Infinite
(WRUW-Cleveland): "Whats good man? I wanted to
inform you that I won't be renewing "The Butters" radio
show after this semester. I'm moving out of Cleveland
within the next month. 1st down to Columbus for a few
weeks, then down to Florida and possibly NY by next
fall!! Once I get down to FL I will eventually try to
work my hand and get a show or possibly do an internet
broadcast but for now, in the next month or so The
Butters will be no more (for a while at least). I still
of course will be part of the Ohio Hip Hop Awards & the
scene out here, but I have done some long thinking about
my life and I have to make things happen now more then
ever. So I have chose to go after my dreams and go to
some cities where there is more opportunity & a better
economy to make some things happen!.
Anything that I can do for you or the Rap Attack
fam just let me know. I trully want to thank you for
your continuous support in everything that I do from the
radio, to the events, to the music that I am releasing.
It has trully been a pleasure!!
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"Just got back from the hospital. Your boy was trying to
play some football about a month ago and I got this urge
to actually DIVE for a pass. In the process I landed all
fucked up on my hand. It's been bothering me ever since.
Since I got off work a little early today so I carried
my ass to the doctors. Basically, I fractured a bone in
my right hand (I'm right handed) and I have to wear a
splint for about 3 weeks. This took a long time to type
up..hahaha..Musically, I'm not feeling the new Kayne
or Luda albums to much. Tittsworth is
worth checking out though"...
Edgie
Kokoski (WUNH-NH):
"In
my humble opinion, Evidence dropped the best indy
Hip-Hop release of 2007 with "The Weatherman LP" and
Kanye West dropped the best major label Hip-Hop
release of 2007 with "Graduation". They both just
dropped their 2008 releases yesterday. Guess who
delivered and who didn't? I'll give you a hint...the guy
who actually rapped had the better disc...
But Kanye isn't the only artist distracted by Hip-Hop's
recent electronica/1980's fascination. Everyone seems to
be getting their T-Pain on and reminiscing about
how things were better in the Reagan years. Hell,
this weekend I might just lace up my Pony high
tops and walk to the local video store to rent "Shrot
Circuit" and "Batteries Not Included" on Beta.
I hope that you and your family have a very happy
Thanksgiving, unless you are a vegetarian. Because
everyone knows that Thanksgiving is about turkey. It's a
proven fact that every Pilgrim ate Turkey at the first
Thanksgiving. And by Turkey, I mean Native Americans"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver
BC, Canada): "Perfekt & Chance from Boston joined
us to talk about their current release "Return of Da
Bully" available now on iTunes. Of course, we are
digging the lead single "Don't Break It Up" be on the
look out for a video soon. Speaking of videos listen
next week for a whole review of the Peanut Butter
Wolf Video Serato Red Bull Event as the
URP crew went out after the radio show for some good
times.
www.myspace.com/perfektandchance...
Chill
Will (WCBN-MI): "This has been a long drawn out week to
be so short. It's DJ Chill Will of the University
of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 FM. Home of the longest
running college radio Hip Hop show in the Mid-West and
maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the show weekly
on 88.3 FM in the Ann Arbor/Metro Detroit area. Or at
www.wcbn.org Saturday nights from 9 pm to 12
midnight est. Gotta thank
Mista Cavi and Anonymous Twist for being on
the show. Very talented cats who are gonna make some
real noise so be on the look out. On a sad note Hip Hop
has lost another member with the death of Eric "MC
Breed." Breed past away early Saturday morning from
a medical condition. We shared stages together and did
shows together over the years. He was always Breed!!!
Same dude every time you see him, day in and day out.
And when you heard a record you knew the voice. Like
Chuck D, Rakim, Cube and B-Real
when you hear them you know it. So as I think of a Breed
memory I go way back to his first album, and play "Just
kickin It." One day we'll all be together djing,
rhyming, and 'Just Kickin It.' R.I.P Big Breed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA): "So let me get this right. Kanye
West wins an award, feels he should give it to
Lil Wayne instead, and says he want's to be just
like Elvis. Well Mr. West, please don't hesitate
to eat some Banana & Bacon sandwiches before blowing up
to 400 pounds and being found ass out on the crapper. I
try & I try to understand Kanye but I just can't. This
dude is too far out there.
Finally my Raiders showed up for the game this
past weekend and kicked some ass. I still think
JaMarcus Russell is a bust though. He's got a long
way to go before I'll be impressed. I'm just happy that
they kicked the Bronco's ass. I just wish I was
still in contact with Chris Hodkins so I could
rub it in his face. LOL.
Well that's pretty much it for this week. I'm psyched to
be going to see Cheech & Chong in concert in San
Jose. Hopefully I'll have some pictures from the event
posted up on myspace on Monday. Happy b-day
AndraNik!"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly): "Remember There Ain't No Future In
Yo Fronting. RIP MC BREED. Gotta Get Mine You
Gotta Get Yours"...
Brian
"ColdRigourous" Leahy (WHUS-CT): " So I
been a bit MIA the last couple weeks, sorry about that.
Finishing my Ph D, looking for my first real job in 31
years, and my developing career as a club DJ (which pays
a hell of a lot better) just aren't leaving enough time
for radio. So over the next couple weeks, I'll slowly be
handing control of the urban department at WHUS over to
my man Phil. He's a good guy and I'm encouraging
him to take this very seriously, so I hope he'll be good
with the charts and feedback. That said, I'm going to
miss this shitt! Knowing everything that's coming out
has seriously helped my path to success as a DJ. And I
am still a seriously working club DJ (every Friday and
Saturday night, plus a monthly on Thursdays), so if you
feel like it please add
coldrigourous@gmail.com (note: 2 u's in
rigourous) to your mailing lists. Anyways, like I say,
this transition should take a couple weeks, while I show
Phil all the ins and outs of managing 500,000 emails a
week, so I'm not out quite yet, but in the mean time,
give a holler, and shouts out to everybody who is
working so hard to keep that indie rap alive. Youse good
people! Stay grinding yall"...
