What's Upper?
In the biggest
boxing match of the year,
Manny Pacquiao defeated
Oscar De La Hoya (see photo above)
in a dominant, star-making performance in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao bashed De La Hoya through eight brutal rounds
of boxing, and De La Hoya couldn't answer the bell for
the ninth.
Pacquiao, generally recognized as the best
pound-for-pound boxer in the world, came into the fight
as an underdog to De La Hoya, mostly because the fight
was contested at 147 pounds, a weight De La Hoya has
fought at many times but Pacquiao had never previously
approached. But this fight wasn't about size, it was
about speed, and Pacquiao was by far the faster fighter.
Pacquiao was way ahead on all three judges' scorecards,
with two judges having it 80-71 and one judge scoring it
79-72. Pacquiao improves to 48-3-2, with 36 knockouts.
De La Hoya falls to 39-6.
Both fighters were, as always, classy afterward.
Pacquiao approached De La Hoya in the ring and said,
"You're still my idol." De La Hoya replied, "Now you're
my idol...

New York

a recession last December, which means that the downturn
is already longer than the average for all recessions
since World War II...
To say Lil Wayne is having a big year is an
understatement. The rapper from New Orleans was
nominated for a whopping 8 Grammys, including album of
he year for "Tha Carter III." Others cited include
Jazmine Sullivan, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and
Kanye West...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Chill
Will (WCBN-MI):
"What's up people it's DJ Chill Will of the
University of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 FM. Home of
the longest running college radio Hip Hop show in the
Mid-West and maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the
show weekly on 88.3 FM in the Ann Arbor/Metro Detroit
area. Or at
www.wcbn.org
Saturday nights from 9
pm to 12 midnight est.
Big shout to Jazzy Pha and The D.O.C to
name a few who came in town for MC Breed's
funeral. He'll truly be missed as a person and a
talented MC. On a brighter note look for interviews with
DJ Babu and Mic Legacy in the up coming
weeks. And for more information about me DJ Chill Will

DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver BC, Canada): "We were
back to the 3 hour format, but unfortunately we were
running with an abbreviated crew, since O-Dog and
High Culture couldn't make it down for the show.
We still held it down though, getting things kicked off
with a double shot preview from Common's new
album, "Universal Mind Control" out on G.O.O.D. Music,
December 9th. The album sounds pretty dope with an array
of sounds and should make noise both in the mainstream
and the underground. Two of our lucky listeners won
themselves an copy of the album before you can buy it
next Tuesday courtesy of the good peoples at
Universal Music.

Producers Keelay & Zaire joined us live over the
phone from the Bay Area to discuss their new projects
(such as "Ridin' High" due out in January) as well as
some upcoming shows going down one even features fellow
Bay Area homie Richie Cunning. Check them out if
you haven't already, cause they got some pretty dope
tracks.

Edgie
Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I
knew it was too good to be true. I knew that there was
no way my beloved New York Giants could cruise
through a season without some kind of horrendous screw
up. Enter Plaxico "Cheddar Bob" Burress,
who thought he could juggle his .40 Glock like he
juggles those tipped passes. Honorable mention to
Antonio "Al Cowlings" Pierce, who
aside from being our Defensive Captain thought it would
be a good idea to drive said weapon into New Jersey to
hide it, thinking that he could keep it a secret that
the Giants $35 million dollar receiver suddenly had a
bullet hole in his leg. My advice to them: hire
Puff's lawyer and stay away from Shyne's.
I don't want to get overly
excited, but I after my cursory listen, it sounds like
EPMD's new LP "We Mean Business" may actually be
good. With some unlikely guest stars and some people
other than Erick manning the boards (9th Wonder???),
it may be time to start respecting this crew again.
Because for the last 10 years I though EPMD stood for
"Erick and Parrish Making Dogsh!t"...
Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "Is
there any bigger idiot on the planet right now than
Plaxico Burress? What the hell is with this guy?
I’ll never understand these athletes who think they need
to be gangsters once they achieve success. This dude
just signed a 31 million contract and how does he
celebrate? He goes to a V.I.P. club and shoots himself
in the leg. Nice move genius. And for anyone who tries
to run the excuse of he came from a rough environment as
a kid and can’t leave the street life alone, do your
research. They guy is from Virginia. He’s not from
Compton. He’s not from the South Bronx. He’s not from
Bedstuy Brooklyn. He’s not from South Chicago or from
Detroit. He or his entourage are trying to re-write his
history. Speaking of his history, how about those two
incidents of domestic violence which ended with him
being issued temporary restraining orders. This guy is a
major head case. If I was this guy, and just signed the
31 million contract, my celebration would be at my house
with a bunch of hired strippers, a few cases of
Heineken, and no more than 10 of my boys. That’s it. No
club adventure. No public posturing to validate my need
to be looked at. I’m glad the Giants suspended
this idiot for the rest of the season and I hope they
file an injunction to get back some of, it not all, the
contract money they already paid him for this season.
I’ve heard some sports analysts also saying that the
Giants might release him as soon as the season is over.
That would be great.
But Burress isn’t the only football player in my scope.
JaMarcus Russell is another guy who I’ve got big
issue with. But for more on that, just go check out my
youtube channel.
www.youtube.com/kazzeo
I’m more likely to go out and step on a rusty nail than
to listen to Kanye West trying to be a singer.
This goof thinks that just because he runs his voice
through a synthesizer, he can sing. Gimme a break.
Whatever happened to singers who could just sing without
all these computer affects? You damn sure never heard
the Stylistics or the Chi Lites or
Marvin Gaye masking their lack of vocal talent
though vocoders. You know why? Because they could
actually sing. Not like these T Pain or Akon
jackasses. Anyway.
Had a chance this past weekend to see Cheech & Chong
in San Jose. Man those guys are legends and the
classic material still holds up funny after all these
year. Really great show.
Big up to the homie Anonymous Twist for calling
into the show last week"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA): "Damn,
this year is seriously flying by. Xmas is almost here
and I can barely remember how Thanksgiving was. Quick
question for everyone, have any of you ever gave thought
to changing careers? I just recently got a new job and
I've only been here for a minute, but my gut feeling is
telling me this is not what I want to be doing for the
rest of my life. I've always wanted to help people out
and I've thought of some different careers, but not sure
I can pursue them easily, especially with all the "grown
folks" stuff I got to take care of with a family. Hit me
back with some insight if you feel like sharing it (

Garbs
Infinite (WRUW-Cleveland): "Whats good man? I
wanted to inform you that I won't be renewing "The
Butters" radio show after this semester. I'm moving out
of Cleveland within the next month. 1st down to Columbus
for a few weeks, then down to Florida and possibly NY by
next fall!! Once I get down to FL I will eventually try
to work my hand and get a show or possibly do an
internet broadcast but for now, in the next month or so
The Butters will be no more (for a while at least). I
still of course will be part of the Ohio Hip Hop Awards
& the scene out here, but I have done some long thinking
about my life and I have to make things happen now more
then ever. So I have chose to go after my dreams and go
to some cities where there is more opportunity & a
better economy to make some things happen!.
Anything that I can do for you or the Rap Attack
fam just let me know. I trully want to thank you for
your continuous support in everything that I do from the
radio, to the events, to the music that I am releasing.
It has trully been a pleasure!!
Brian
"ColdRigourous" Leahy (WHUS-CT): " So I
been a bit MIA the last couple weeks, sorry about that.
Finishing my Ph D, looking for my first real job in 31
years, and my developing career as a club DJ (which pays
a hell of a lot better) just aren't leaving enough time
for radio. So over the next couple weeks, I'll slowly be
handing control of the urban department at WHUS over to
my man Phil. He's a good guy and I'm encouraging
him to take this very seriously, so I hope he'll be good
with the charts and feedback. That said, I'm going to
miss this shitt! Knowing everything that's coming out
has seriously helped my path to success as a DJ. And I
am still a seriously working club DJ (every Friday and
Saturday night, plus a monthly on Thursdays), so if you
feel like it please add
coldrigourous@gmail.com (note: 2 u's in
rigourous) to your mailing lists. Anyways, like I say,
this transition should take a couple weeks, while I show
Phil all the ins and outs of managing 500,000 emails a
week, so I'm not out quite yet, but in the mean time,
give a holler, and shouts out to everybody who is
working so hard to keep that indie rap alive. Youse good
people! Stay grinding yall"...
