MOST MEMORABLE HIP-HOP MOMENT IN 2008:

Nasty-Nes (RapAttackLives.com): "A lot of you know about my personal struggles I went through over the past few years & because of my faith in the MAN up above I've overcome those struggles. So I am thankful for that & much more which include this year:

1. Winning the "West Coast Hip-Hop Legendary DJ Award" & the FPAC "Legendary DJ Award"

2. As an actor, I finally joined SAG & found out I had 5 years worth of residual checks waiting for me! Reuniting with my original manager Donnice Wilson who got me an audition to be on NBC's "ER" episode & I got the part!

3. Going back home to Seattle to be a part of Bruce Lee's 35th Anniversary with Shannon & Linda Lee & my Sifu Taky Kimura, reuniting after 30 years with my highschool classmates from Seattle Prep, reuniting with my potnah Sir Mix-A-Lot & spending time in Seattle with my sister, Ann for the first time in nearly 15 years.

4. Attending & emcee'ing my niece in law, Irene's "Debut" last February. I got to bond with my lady's side of the family & that was very special. I also watched Icy-Ice play Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart" & pack the dancefloor!

5. Watching Manny Pacquiao destroy Osca De La Hoya in eight rounds. Manny is reppin' the Filipinos in a very positive way & I want to keep that tradition going in my own life through my success & failures.

It's been 4 years & 8 months since I quit smoking & I feel GREAT! I can go on & on & on on how thankful I am for 2008. But I have to reach out to my extended family at RAP ATTACK & say, "THANK YOU!" You have made this year a great year for me & for Hip-Hop music. I couldn't have done this without you. You've been by my side all these years & I appreciate that. I'm a very humble guy & I don't need the limelight or media to prove to anyone anything. Those that know me well know that everything I do comes from my heart unconditionally...

Meddafore (FL & PA): "I think my most memorable moment would be a major magazine, XXL, finally making a list of future superstars that I completely agree with. Their December front cover had Asher Roth, B.o.B, Charles Hamilton and Wale on it, and featured other talented cats on the inside. I believe that those guys are not only going to change Hip-Hop, but re-energize it. Hip-hop will never die, but these kids are definitely giving it more life through creativity and originality

DJ Raw-B (KUSF-SF): ""Kanye West at the Red Rock in Vegas, Sunday nights on KUSF or my bedroom"

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "I had to really think about it because not much has stood out until I dj'd the Redman & Method Man concert. Red & Meth put on one of the best shows I've seen in years. They rock from beginning to end and the crowd knew all the words. It was really refreshing not to see 6 people on stage going yea yea yea and walking around cursing. Bring those days back when people put on great shows and make it seems worth the money

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "One of my favorite times in Hip-Hop during 08 was when I had the chance to DJ at Urban Network Summit with Nasty Nes. He introduced me to so many HUGE players in this game we all call Hip-Hop! I was able to listen to some very experienced people, who helped push Hip-Hop when it wasn’t what it is today! This is much bigger to me and the movement behind us in the 805. You can make music all day, but if you do not know what to do with it once you have it, you caste a lf of time and Energy! That’s Real big for me!"

Savvy (KSJS-SJ): "My greatest Hip-Hop moment was attending Rock The Bells this year in SF. The day was sunny and beautiful, my closest loved ones were there in attendance. I watched some epic performances by The Pharcyde, Nas, Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Immortal Technique and more. Even though I've been to so many shows, this one was def the one of the year, having all my homies and fam there under the sun to share the concert was the greatest gift ever. I guess you could say Obama's moment of triumph was also a Hip Hop moment for me, as Hip Hop is not only a genre of music, it's a state of mind. We finally have a black man as our President. I feel a new sense of patriotism, hope for justice, and hope for the future. Shouts outs and peace to my entire RapAttack fam! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Yes We Can!"

Jason D (KHDC & RadioBoise.org): "I have several memorable Hip-Hop moments in 2008. First, the D Fam continues to expand with the birth of my son, Carlo D, on July 6th. The second was helping RadioBoise.org acquire their FCC license. This has been years in the making and we are hopeful that 89.9 FM will be on air in 2009. In the meantime, you can always check out my show and playlists at www.myspace.com/djjasond in the blog section. On a sad note, 2008 officially marks the death of the vinyl for me. I think I received 5 records this year and this is the first CMJ that I came home with no records. Rest in peace

J-Tyme (X104-Seattle): "2008 was an interesting year. By far, the best moment of 2008 for me was when I became engaged. The biggest party of the year will happen in September of 2009.

On the other hand, the lowpoint of the year was the Seattle sports scene. Seattle experienced the worst year in sports ever in the history of sports. The year started out with the Seattle Sonics being stolen from us and being relocated to Oklahoma City of all places. For some reason, the state legislature decided to settle for a lump of cash instead of keeping the team here. I guess 41 years of tradition and an NBA championship wasn't enough. Next the Seattle Mariners became the first baseball team in MLB history to have a $100 million dollar payroll and lose 100 games. And then there's the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks were supposed to restore faith in the city, but they proceeded to underachieve and are currently in last place in the NFC West. Then we have our college football teams - The
University of Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars. The Huskies were the only Division One football team without a win and the Cougars won only 2 games (with one of them being against a Division Two school). Since Seattle sports betrayed me, I had to turn to my fellow countryman Manny Pacquiao to restore my faith in sports.

He didn't disappoint as he beat the living daylights out of Oscar De La Hoya and exposed him as the slower boxer that is past his prime. With everyone saying Manny would lose because of size, he proved all the haters and doubters wrong by forcing him and his corner to quit because it just wasn't fair. It was pretty evident that Oscar was not fighting in the later rounds of the fight. The poor guy was just trying to protect himself. I couldn't ask for a better way to end the year

G-Fresh (WAIF-Cincinnatti): "Winning the Ohio Hip Hop Awards best College/Community radio show"

L-Precise (Vancouver BC, Canada): "Best personal Hip-Hop moments for me were.. my crew Sketch Bros opening for Method Man, winning the Jesse McCartney rmx contest and travelling to NY and playing beats in the G-Unit office for their A&Rs.. looking forward to seeing what 2009 has in store.

This is my last year as a reporter. I have to focus on production more, so I stopped doing the sprint mixes for now.. its been great being part of your charting team all these years.. and hopefully get to see you soon in April for the Squad reunion.. seems like it was just yesterday when i was first started!"

3rd Rail (WNUR-Chicago): "THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FOR 2008? WAS GOING TO JAPAN IN APRIL AND RECORD SHOPPING FOR A WHOLE WEEK. WAIT A MINUTE DID I SAY RECORD SHOPPING? YES I DID. ALSO BEING ONE OF THE LAST DJ'S TO STILL PLAY RECORDS, I FIND IT AMAZING NOT TO BE ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER SHOW THAT USES SERATO, CD'S OR LORD KNOWS WHAT ELSE SOUND BETTER THEN MINE. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS IS WATCHING EVERYONE SWITCH FROM VINYL TO EVERYTHING ELSE JUST TO FIT IN. ALWAYS CLAIMING TO BE ABLE TO PLAY STUFF THAT'S NOT ON WAX, BUT EVERYTIME WE HEAR THEM THEY'RE PLAYING STUFF THAT'S ON WAX?
WHILE THE INDUSTRY IS HURTING AND SALES ARE DOWN AND THE MUSIC IS NOT WHAT IT USE TO BE. ASK YOURSELF ARE YOU PART OF THE PROBLEM OR SOLUTION? DID YOU SWITCH? ARE YOU PLAYING GARBAGE? WATCHING PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SELL OUT IN 2008 HAS BEEN SO MEMORABLE.

ALSO BEING ONE OF THE PIONEERS OF THE CONFERENCE CALL WITH NASTY NES. FOR OVER 10 YEARS, WOW I'M OLD HUH? JUST BEING ON THE CALL HAS MENT SO MUCH TO ME. TO BUILD WITH DJ'S AND ARTIST ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND EVEN CANADA HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I'VE MADE CLOSE FRIENDS WITH SOME AND HUNG OUT WITH OTHERS.

LOVE IS LOVE-VATO LOCO AKA DJ3RDRAIL-PUTTING OVER 133 DJ VIDEOS ON MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT

www.youtube.com/DJ3RDRAIL1981 -SHOWING THE WORLD HOW VINYL HIP HOP DJ'S DO IT"

Matt Chan (CJSF-Canada): "Finding a David Axelrod lp in the used bins for $5"

Nesto (WODU-VA): "I will have to say my most memorable moment was going to the Red Bull Beat Battle in DC. I went to support one of my homies that was in the battle. I worked with this guy in the past and he has come a long way and believe there's more in store for this guy. The event was real chill, and I got to link up with some homies from back in the day. Super producer Nottz, Darryl Sloan, Keith, Ruck, Vitamin D, Jake One, and a bunch of up and coming producers. Just being in the spot brought back a lot of memories of my earlier hustling days at the shows in DC'S 9:30 Club. Definitely a good night"

Damian "Mr Groove" Rodriguez (Colorado): "My most memorable moment this year was finally seeing Jazzy Jeff live for the 1st time. He still got the skills"

DJ Frresh (KPSU-Portland): "My most memorable moment is when I won mixtape dj of year at the Westcoast Hip-Hop awards, interviewing Murs and meeting  Nasty-Nes"

Black O.C.: Our most memorable moment in Hip-Hop 2008 is the day we, Black O.C. met Nasty Nes and the connection became official. That day marked our entrance into the world of Hip-Hop. Things will never be the same. God Bless"

WonderTwinZ (Sirius): "Well here we are again… the end of yet another year. 2008 has been just as good as 2007. We managed to survive through the many changes up at SiriusXM. Although more than half of the DJs up there lost their jobs due to the merger between Sirius and XM, The Wonder TwinZ remain. We managed to keep our jobs as the new hosts of the morning show on “The Heat.” With this merger we raised our listenership to over 35 million subscribers. That’s a lot of listeners.

We also sat down with KRS-One for the cover story of our magazine The Connex List. A few hours of conversation with The Teacher will make anyone’s year!!!

Lastly, our fondest memory of 2008 is our continued travels as the tour DJs for Naughty By Nature. Like we said last year, in May of 2007 we started touring with VinRock and Treach and we haven't stopped since. We’ve been out on the road almost every single weekend in the last year and a half. Shout out to our homie Phat Phillie for booking us in Croatia, Dublin, Bulgaria and Slovakia. We did a few shows in Budapest, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway. We even took a 26-hour flight to Jakarta, Indonesia and tore it down out there with DJ Lethal. Jakarta was a HUGE culture shock. For security reasons alone, we never left the hotel, except to do the show. We rocked a whole bunch of shows with Coolio, Tone Loc and Young MC. (Shout to our homie Ghost). We rocked a few casinos in Las Vegas this year, including The Playboy suite at The Palms hotel for Hef’s birthday weekend. In August of this year, Naughty By Nature became the first HipHop group to ever perform at the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota. (Which is the BIGGEST bike rally in the world.) In October we had the Honor of attending the “VH1 HipHop Honors” to watch as Vinnie, Treach and Kaygee were honored and crowned “The Kings Of The HipHop Anthems”. Naughty By Nature was honored alongside Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Slick Rick and Too $hort. Just last week we went back to Australia for a few shows in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Nothing beats some good Australian summer weather in the middle of November, but nothing lasts forever. Today I sit here in a hotel room in Halifax Canada looking out the window at a foot of snow and subzero temperatures.

I gotta say… As a couple of DJs who started out the same year O.P.P. was released, never in a million years did we think we would be out on tour with Naughty By Nature. To this day, it’s still very surreal to be in a different city every weekend and soaking in various cultures all the while obtaining knowledge and history of the game from true Legends and razor-sharp business men like VinRock and Trigga Treach. We’ve met so many people on the road and we continue to keep in touch with everyone. There’s an unexplainable feeling that comes every night about an hour before we step on stage. It’s a combination of jitters and excitement. But as we get closer to show time it becomes a little more numb and then once we step on that stage and stand behind the turntables, there’s no stopping and no turning back. The stage goes dark with a spotlight on the turntables and the only thing left to say is…. PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR YOUR 2008 HIPHOP HONOREES… MAKE SOME NOISE… AND… GIVE IT UP….. FOR….. NAUGHTY… BY… NATURE !!!!!!!!! (I love yelling that!!) ‘Til next year… take care of yourself… and… ya mother!! - Sonic & Lord Vader. - The Wonder TwinZ"

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA):"A couple days ago, I got an email from Nes asking for a submission for the annual “Greatest Hip Hop Memory Of The Year” section on the Rap Attack website. Now initially, I thought to myself “was there really anything memorable this year” as far as real Hip Hop went? Sure, there where some small ripples in the water but could I really think of something that made a deep splash in the pool? And then it hit me. I know what a good memory was. The most feared man on the West Coast Suge Knight suing people because he lost an earring. Wait a minute, while it might be the epitome of “Gangsta”, is it really notable in the history of Hip Hop? Nah. Then I thought about the temper tantrum known as Kanye West and his repeated outbursts in backstage area’s not to mention his assault and vandalism against a paparazzi at L.A.X. Hold on, that falls under the “if you can’t handle your celebrity don’t become a celebrity” files. Not Hip Hop. Then of course there was The Game who told XXL Magazine that “his life was better when he was getting shot at than it is now that he’s a successful recording artist”.

Obviously I’m pointing out some of the more ridiculous moments in Hip Hop this year. But back to the purpose of this writing, to acknowledge my best memory for this year would no doubt be reaching 15 years on the air at 90.9FM KHDC in Salinas, CA. In all this was my 17th year in radio and I still love what I do as much as I did when I first started. Big up’s to all the artists who came on the show this year and all of those who’ve come on over the past 15 years. Way too many to list here. Shouts to my man Jason D, Tahmi Gotti, DJ Joe, KMK, the one & only “V”, Kev Sakoda and of course the “Fantasic 4” down in LA. You know how we do. Peace"

Garbs Infinite (WRUW-OH): "My performance at this years Ohio Hip Hop Awards was crazy! I had my homey Jon Doe on the wheels, Cleveland B-Boy's Bobby Champagne, Swift Ali, Tony Fresh & Static & my homey BeatEffeck beatboxin & Vincenzo rockin with me. Probably the most fun I've had in a long time. Here's a video, The performance is around 5 minutes you can hear the crowd and imagine how we felt lol:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSuWOnkPmx4

Also I would say me being able to be a part of Mick Boogie & Terry Urban's "Viva La Hova" Mixtape. Definitely a big thing for me and last but definitely not least Barack Obama winning the election. The young kids wont know anything BUT a black president being a reality"

Tha Brain: "In my opinion, mainstream music is just getting harder and harder to listen to. The lack of creativity, growth and meaningful content makes my IPOD playlist very short. So for me, the biggest moment of 08' was hearing the album TI released this fall. He stepped his wordplay way up and you can hear his growth and maturity bleeding through the songs. Most overall growth I've heard from an artist in a LONG time. Much luv Tip!!"

DJ Bro-Rabb (WXDU-NC): "ROCKIN AN EVENT W/MC LYTE ON HOLLOWEEN NIGHT..I HAD NEVER MET HER UNTIL THEN!!!!!!"

Jellow (Ch'rewd-Chicago): "Watching The Cool Kids and Pacific Division make things happen..."

AJ Woodson: "The 20th anniversary of JVC FORCE's Strong Island reunion show"

Rap Attack takes a FINAL "WHAT'S UPPER" look for 2008 with:

Jason-D (RadioBoise.Org): "I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who sends me new music. I especially want to shout out my old school homie Nasty Nes for all the support and for keeping the college charts alive at www.rapattacklives.com. Extra special shouts to Jessica @ Spectre, Papa D @ Brick, JJ & Lee @ Foundation Media, Greg @ Shocksound and Semp & Parable @ Public Wizard who easily handle 90% of the music on my show. Thank you! And finally, shouts to the Wednesday Wreck Crew, a.k.a the Drink Ticket Mafia, a.k.a Team Heineken, a.k.a. DJ Kazzeo & San Jo Joe. Looking forward to a good 2009!"...

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "Happy Holidays to everyone and keep warm for those of us in the cold weather states. It's DJ Chill Will of the University of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 FM. DJ Sage (CFRO-Canada): "Big start to the show, with a sneak preview from Medinah Starr's upcoming EP, "Serious Intermission". This disc is serious, don't sleep on the talented Philly rhyme sayer! We were also joined by Medinah for a phone interview where she spoke on her experiences in the music industry, her upcoming project and life in general! Good talk! Almost immediately after that we were joined by Amanda Diva, who is doing big things in her own right, including collaborations with Q-Tip and Canadian Boy Shaun Booth among others oh and of course she has got the EP "Life Experience out now! Two quality interviews from two of the hottest female MCs in the game right now!
www.myspace.com/medinahdeen
 www.myspace.com/amandadiva

We were also joined by the Australian Hip-Hop duo, Bliss N Eso. They are tearing up the Aussie scene right now and are making their way to North America as we speak! Check their website, www.blissneso.com for show details! Check out www.UrbanRenewalProject.net in a day or two to download the podcast of this show because you're missing out if you didn't hear it! We got into an all-female MC set following the first two interviews with Medinah Starr and Amanda Diva and it was on from there! There was no slowing down, with new ish from Common, Blaq Poet, EPMD, Torae, Jay-Z, 88-Keys, Snak The Ripper and Party Arty (RIP) among others.
The Urban Renewal Project also passes along its condolences to the families and friends of DITC and Cella Dwellas MC, Party Arty and the legendary MC Breed who both recently passed away. It was way too soon for both talented artists to leave us. RIP"...

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "I want to tell each of you to have a SAFE, and Happy Christmas and a Happy new year! Please be safe out there this holiday season, SAVE MONEY, and make all the right decisions out there while shopping and stuff! Ill miss the RapAttack DJ Fam during the Holidays and look forward to making 09 a big year for everyone I work with! Please feel free to reach out and hit me for anything you may need oK?"...

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): "I must say I was for the most part disappointed with the music this year. While the good ones were good. The bad ones were bad. The indies give me hope but things have to change in 2009. As far as a 2008 Hip-Hop moment, I am really hard pressed.I guess the albums from the likes of Black Milk, Jake One, 9th Wonder & Buckshot, Q-Tip showed that when people want to do good music it can be done. I was able to bang some good albums in my whip and the not so good got the weekly deposit into the Schuykill River. So here's to 2009 and I'm on Facebook now too. Talk to you all in January. God Bless"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "It seems that every time I turn around, whether it be on TV or in print articles, Akon is referred to or categorized as a "Hip Hop Artist" or a "Rapper". Nothing could be further from the truth and for a long time I despised the guy because I felt he perpetuated this false image. However, I gotta acknowledge that he manned up this past week during an interview on the Stern Show. He flat out said "I'm a singer, not a rapper. I just get put in there because I work with so many rappers". Thank you. Why can't writers and award shows realize this fact? These people have absolutely no comprehension skills. Idiots.

Finally, after 13 years of running around laughing in everyone's face, O.J. is put away and no one deserves it more than this dude. Murderer, thief, extortionist, wife beater. Those seem to be some fitting adjectives.
Having never been a fan of Oscar De La Hoya, I love the fact that his pretty boy ass got his ass beat this weekend. Like Calvin on payday at McDonalds, I'm lovin' it.

Sean Penn is absolutely Academy Award worthy for his performance in the movie "Milk". Really a great movie and very important in local northern Cali history, not to mention human history. Go see it.

Now since this is the last reporting of the year, I guess I should give you a short list of things I'm hoping for in the new year. So here we go.
1. I hope for gas prices to continue to fall even though I assume that once the presidential innauguration is over on Jan 20, the prices will rise again.
2. I hope for Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles to continue to be the best show on TV.
3. I also hope for Smallville to get back to full strength.
4. I look for O.J. to rot in jail and for DMX to soon join him.
5. I hope for a certain DJ from Nashua, NH to finally have one of his 5 email addresses that actually has an empty inbox so that my feedback emails don't routinely get bounced back.
6. I hope you all check out and subscribe to my youtube channel"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "Wow, another year has come and gone. Where did it go??  Before I continue I have to comment on what Kazzeo said about Plexxico "Cheddar Bob".. I will admit that dude is an idiot for doing what he did, but the comment about him being from VA and not Detroit, Compton, or the Bronx kind of caught me off guard. A lot of people think VA is on some country vibe, but trust me homie there's parts in VA that are no joke. Plex grew up in a section of Virginia Beach that was known to be gully. I know spots in Norfolk that people avoid completely, and unfortunately I use to call a couple of them home. I'm not trying to start nothing here homie, just wanted to make a point that VA ain't all sweet.

On another note, music this year was really hit or miss for me. I hope 09 brings better music. I want to thank all the promoters for doing what they do, and blessing us with the music. I look forward to working with all of you in 09. Happy Holidays to everyone, and be safe out there. I'll catch you all next year"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Hey, if you're looking for any last minute gift ideas for me, I wouldn't mind having Barack Obama's Senate seat. I heard that it's on sale right now too.

I think I've had about enough of "Rewards Programs" that mean nothing. My credit card gives me points every month for running up a big bill. I finally logged on to their "Rewards" website last week and found out that after a year of saving up my "Rewards Points", I didn't even have enough for a $100 gift card. It reminds me of when I played Skee Ball as a kid. I'd naively go up to the counter with a roll of tickets that would choke an elephant and all I could afford was either a comb or a kazoo. Every time you check out at any chain store now, they ask you about the rewards card. "Do you have one?" "Do you want one?". Even my gym started a rewards program. They email me now every time I work out to say "Hey big guy....YOU WORKED OUT. You earned 10 reward points!!!!" Yipee. I'll bet I have about 175 more workouts to go before I get the free 10 ounce Gatorade. I'm just waiting for my toliet to start emailing telling me that I'm getting rewards points for taking a sh!t.
Why is it that the stores always have the temp workers on the floor and not at the register during the holiday shopping season?

Me: (after wandering around for 20 minutes looking for an item) "Do you have a ______?"
Confused Temp Employee: "No...well...maybe...I'm not sure."
Confused Temp Employee: (on walkie talkie with other temp employee) "Do we have ______?"
Brain Donor Temp Employee #2: "Uh...I think we can order it."
Me (in my brain): "Really? You can order it? No sh!t. That's why I'm in your store. Because I saw it on your website and I foolishly thought that you'd have the same merchandise in the store as on the web. You're right! I would prefer to pay a shipping feel and wait 10 days to get the item. That would be much better."
Me: (out of my mouth): "Thanks Anyhow".
(as I'm walking disgustedly out of the store)
Regular Employee #3: "Do you need help Sir?"
Me: "Yes, I'm looking for ____"
Regular Employee #3 "Oh, they're probably in Aisle #___. I'd show you, but I'm stuck on this register right now".

Needless to say, I did not make a purchase at Bed, Bath & Beyond. That's right....I name names.

It's been another strange year in the world of Hip-Hop radio. Although I finally was forced to realize that the servicing and physical promo publishing days are finally gone, I did enough good new music this year to give me enthusiasm for 2009. Tune in for my first chart of 2009 where I will unveil the "Edgie's", my first ever musical awards highlighting the best and worst of 2008. Obviously you are intrigued, because I'm the first one to ever attempt such a concept and clearly there will be no other lists out there to compete with my whimsical and jaundiced rulings.

Thank you to all of you that have supported me and my radio program this year, and I wish you and your family the best for the holidays and 2009"...
