Philippine Hip Hop is in Mourning with the Death of Francis Magalona, who intoduced rap and Hip-Hop to the Pinoy masses and practically opened the doors and introduced it to the Philippines. He died of Lukemia at age 45. (R.I.P.)...

Cypress Hill is back in the studio wrapping up its first new album since 2004, with hopes to release it in the fall on Suburban Noize Records. "We're mixing right now," says B-Real, who just released his first solo album, "Smoke N Mirrors.". He describes the group's new music as "gritty. It's aggressive. It's like Hip-Hop straight-up. We just felt like we needed to go back to that raw, gritty Hip-Hop sound but try to find a way to bridge it with what's going on now."  B-Real says the as-yet-untitled album will have input from pals Everlast, Evidence and The Alchemist, but he didn't anticipate many other guests. "We don't really do a lot of collaborations in Cypress. We keep it in house."  The group members have been mostly working on their own projects since 2004's "Til Death Do Us Part" and a split with Columbia Records, their longtime label home...

Arash's debut album, "Transcripted Thoughts" independently released through SoFull Entertainment, now has two #1 singles that has charted: "Howudoin?" and "Rise." The album is a cross of Marvin Gaye meets Mos Def and is reminiscent of the sound of the Golden Era of Hip-Hop. If you like quality music, then this album is for you.

On that note, for a limited time, Arash is posting the album on his dj website http://www.shammydee.com for free download. You need to register to become a member (if you haven't already, only takes 2 minutes) and you'll find the members link where you can download and enjoy the album...

If you’ve lived in LA for any length of time, you’ve bumped him in your ride on a Friday night. He’s worked at your favorite radio stations - Power 106 and 100.3 The Beat and any hot club from here to Japan. They’ve called him the “Hardest Working DJ on the West Coast,” but we just call him DJ Hideo (see photo below). If you’re on this site, then you’re wondering if the rumors are true. Unfortunately, they are. DJ Hideo has cancer. We are all in prayer for Hideo, his daughter Danny and the entire Sugano family. Please log onto his site for more info on how you can help Hideo: http://www.prayforhideo.com/ and this website is intended to keep people alerted about Hideo's progress. Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): "This is a good cause I am a part of so I thought I would let you know about it. I am involved in an annual golf outing with my brother and father's fraternity(Kappa Alpha Psi), that takes place every June in Mainland,Pennsylvania. The outing is to raise money for the Community Advocates Association for Children&Youth. The organization also known as CAACY helps counsel troubled youth and their families and their is also a scholarship fund for the Kappa Alpha Psi's Delta Theta Alumni chapter. The brochure is in the attachment. All who are interested can contact the Golf Committee list and send all registration to address listed. So please join us on Monday June 15,2009 for a great cause. On another note, Spring is in the air and the playoffs are close. March Madness is here and here is hoping Villanova and Temple make the Final Four( I'm such a homer). Hopefully Cole Hamel's elbow is good and the Phils can start their title defense without worries. The Sixers beat the Lakers at the buzzer and I love it anytime Kobe loses. Good to see En Vogue back together with all the original members"...

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "It's DJ Chill Will of the University of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 FM. Home of the longest running of radio Hip Hop Show in the Mid-West and maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the show weekly on 88.3 FM. in the Ann Arbor/metro Detroit area. or at www.wcbn.org Saturday from 9pm to 12 midnight est.

What happenin all? I wanna send a big shout to everyone who came by the show on Thursday. It was standing room only and glad the fire marshall didn't know. LOL!!! There's some hot music coming out for the headz and for the clubs. The joint from JRPH7 called Top Rank featuring Black Milk and Gulity Simpson. Joint is fire trust me(And I added this week). Then for the club Sullee got a new joint called Sippin featuring Busta Rhymes. This joint is a club banger for sure. For more information about me DJ Chill Will go to www.myspace.com/djchillwill734...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, Canada): "We started things off by featuring a sick album by The Grouch and Eligh “Say G&E! Vol. 4”, which isn’t even officially out until April 7. However, in honor of a couple big shows G&E have coming up including SXSW and annual “Paid Dues” Hip-Hop festival we thought we should give our listeners the exclusive sneak peak. This album reminds my of another album myself and O-Dog are still bumping, 88 Keys “Death Of Adam”, similarly this album has a mix of sounds and guests (Gift of Gab, Pigeon John, Blu, Mistah Fab, etc) that all work to form an enjoyable musical experience. Check the myspace for all the dates on the upcoming “Say G&E” tour.

Speaking of Hip-Hop shows there is a couple gigs worth checking out in Vancouver this week. Including this upcoming Thursday at Shine Nightclub where Jeff Spec and Edge will be performing in support of their new EP “Ghetto Laundry”. We had Jeff Spec and NaRai drop by the studio to talk about this release as well as Narai’s upcoming release “Color On Your Canvas”. Plus, another one of their upcoming shows, which has them opening up for Talib Kweli this Monday at Gossip. They are definitely doing it big. If you need proof here is the link to download “Ghetto Laundry” free of charge.

Definitely looking forward to warming this show up, peeping Necro’s performance, and link up some good people from the T-Dot (shout outs to Brent, Alex, and DJ Shortcut).

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "New Tracks just added to 80.5FM – be sure to peep out the new joint from Ghostface Killa & DOOM and that Jessica from Spectre sent out called ChinaTown Wars. That track is produced by hit produce OHNO of Stones Throw Records. Don’t be the last one’s to blaze this track in your market! It’s fire Im tellin ya! That’s our # pick for this week! I also received a DOPE track from Beanie Segal called Mack’s backof the State Property/DefJam label. Be sure to check those out.

I am working with a new artist now. His name is 12 Grand. You may have seen him on our charts as of recent, but you will be seeing more coming from him. I wold like to get you to know about him as we travel down the road with new releases and shows. He is very talented and has a dope sound. He features production by Kankick, Philly Blunt, and a few others. Real sick beats, and real Hip-Hop to vibe to on the streets ! Be sure to keep your ear on the streets for him. I would appreciate it a lot if you would consider listening to his music and sending me some feedback and let us know what you are feeling and what you’re NOT feeling if so. 12 Grand’s music will definitely work on college radio. Hit me back and be on the lookout for a new single next week!!"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "What's up people? Is it me or is this whole 50 bullshit with Rick Ross just a big "my dick is bigger then yours" contest and a complete waste of time. I see that 50 has gotten a chick that is supposed to be one of Ross's baby momma and got this chick making a porn video. That just makes no sense to me, but maybe that chick has a future in porn"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you drunks out there! If you celebrated St. Patrick's Day, you are probably reading this Wednesday morning, hungover. I've never really gotten into St. Patrick's Day since I'm not Irish and I think that the bars are crowded enough on non-holidays.. Plus, I can't justify burning precious vacation time to get drunk during the day unless there is a Red Sox or NY Giants game involved.

Speaking of Red Sox, hometown hero Kevin Youkilis commented on how disappointed he was at the turnout of U.S. fans for the World Baseball Classic. He said each game is like "Being the Away Team in your own country". Don't get my wrong, I like Youk, but he should realize:

1. The friggin' regular baseball season is already 162 mind-numbing games. It's like going out for ice cream before a buffet.
2. I'm still scrapping together pennies to buy the one set of outrageously priced Red Sox tickets that I will be able to afford this year.
3. I'm pretty sure that they have this other thing where countries play against each other competitively. It's called the Olympics.

Yes, I don't need to see the stars from each country slug it out for three weeks straight. Maybe just one weekend round-robin tourney? Single elimination style - just like March Madness (which I could also care less about). And the last place team has to do a bunch of steroids just to make next year more interesting.

If you were feeling old for some reason this week, take solace in the fact that Flavor Flav turned 50. Actually, that isn't very comforting at all. Despite being mentally deranged, VH1 still found women to swoon over his starving Ethiopian style body at that age. Twice. Yuck.

Kid Cudi quitting rap? That's what he says. He claims that being a big rap star is more drama then he encountered when he was "piss broke". Cudi continues to explain that he is tired of being the subject of gossip. "I already went to high school once, and got expelled, because it wasn't for me. I'ma drop out of this s**t before n****s try to crucify me". Boo Hoo for you. I didn't even know this dude well enough to hate him yet, but these quotes are enough for me. I'll bet he got mocked and expelled from school because he was smarter than the other kids.

I thought the Coolio robbery/arrest news bit from last week was as low as it goes. But here comes former Fugee Pras, who is being sued by homeless people for impersonation a homeless person! Pras went in disguise to film a documentary entitled "Skid Row", and is now being sued by his homeless co-stars who feel betrayed by his deception. What does it say about Pras when homeless people don't want him being "the face" of homeless people? Maybe they were investors in the "Ghetto Superstar" album. That would sure give them an axe to grind"...
