VIBE magazine has shut down. The magazine
was launched in 1993 by music industry legend Quincy
Jones and it served as as widely revered urban
magazine. "On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best
in this business), it is with great sadness, and with
heads held high, that we leave the building today," said
Danyel Smith, former Chief Content Officer
of Vibe Media Group and Editor in Chief of
Vibe. "We were assigning and editing a Michael
Jackson tribute issue when we got the news," ."It’s
a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media
Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth
anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for Hip-Hop in
particular, and for the millions of readers and users
who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand.
We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and
excellence, and we will miss you"...
WHAT'S BLAZIN' WITH BLAZE WONG?
by: BLAZE WONG:
Greetings fellow DJs! First off It is a pleasure to be
contributing to
www.RapAttackLives.com, thank you to Nasty
Nes. I remember hearing his name when I first came
into this industry back in the day with many of my
fellow colleagues saying that I can pass for him on the
east coast....lol....So for my first write up I would
like to give you a brief history of who I am and what I
do here at Cornerstone Promotion.
My
industry career started off when I interned at WAJZ
(Jamz 96.3-Albany, NY) in 1999. This was the
first Hip-Hop and R&B commercial radio station
established in this market and from an intern spawned
this very outgoing, vocal individual that did whatever
it takes to help this station grow in ratings.
Program Director then, Sugar Bear saw the
light in me and brought me on board to board op certain
shows and established me as Street Team/Promo.
Coordinator for this station. By 2000, I was a fill in
on air personality for this station while running the
streets and clubs in the Albany, NY market.
While
on my radio grind I ventured into Cornerstone Promotion
right when they launched their FARMteam marketing
initiative utilizing college students in variety of
markets around the country. Outlasting my peers in this
FARMteam department, by late 2004 Cornerstone
co-presidents Rob Stone & Jon Cohen along
with then Director of Marketing Chris Atlas (now
Def Jam) brought me on board to the Urban
Department of Cornerstone Promotion working with
record labels to break their new/existing artist(s),
assist in putting together the Cornerstone Mixtapes
(released monthly), maintain our mp3 site for the DJs -
www.1200squad.com, and many cross
marketing/promotional opportunities with my partner in
crime J and now new Director of Urban
Marketing Dru Ha (yes, the one and only) So now,
you know a bit about Blaze Wong from Cornerstone
Promotion, I would like to hear from you guys, feel free
to reach out to me. In the meantime I would like to
leave you with my "Triple Freshness" - my 3
projects that I am enjoying right now and you should
too! And always remember DJs - THE DJ IS THE

SEATTLE WEEKLY
by JONATHAN CUNNINGHAM: "Steelo's Music
For the Ladies - The R&B duo is as diverse as the scene
that spawned it: If anything gets less exposure than
Seattle's underpublicized R&B scene, it's the fact that
multicultural artists are a part of it. But with a
half-Iranian, half-Mexican rapper and an
Italian-American crooner, Steelo are trying to
change that. After teaming up five years ago in
Bellingham, the now-Seattle-based R&B-boy tandem are
creating club jams tailored for the ladies. On their
impressive debut album, Music, rapper A.Uno and
singer Bobby K aim straight for mainstream
audiences with radio-friendly jams that don't bore as
much as one would expect"...

(WCBN-MI):
"What's going on people? Aww man a long great but also
sad week while on biz/vacation in LA. Michael
Jackson's shocking death while I was at the airport.
People were in disbelief and thought it was a bad rumor,
sad that it wasn't!!! Touch down in LA and was off and
running. All kinds of stars and artist chillin at the
hotel to the clubs and even Denny's(Lol). Hit the
Bumsquaddjz party at Castle IVAR in Hollywood
were Ron Artest and others were in the house.
Moved over to the Def Jam/Myspace party at The
Avalon. Kicked it with Fabolous, Ace Hood, Jeremih.
Plus all kinds of Def Jam artist were in the house which
is a dope venue. Also checked out the LA finals for the
DMC with people from as far away as Texas rockin
the turntables. But I could go on forever with all the
events I attended and rocked at. So check the show out
this Saturday for lots of new music and interviews. For
more information about me DJ Chill Will go to

Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"What a difference a week
makes huh? I don't even know where to begin other than
to say love him or hate him, the world lost a musical
genius in Michael Jackson. While I make no bones
about the way about his legal issues, I can't help but
put that all aside while I'm going through the archives
of music to use for my quick tribute to him during my
show tonight. It seems as though the incredible music
never ends, from 1970 to 1991, it's hit after hit after
hit after hit. I wish I would have had a chance to see
him in concert.
The B.E.T. awards were a disaster. If that's the
best they could do in paying tribute, why even bother? I
don't even know how they got Janet to appear. I
felt bad for her having to do that in the midst of the
horrible situation. She looked really drained by it. I
also think Joe Jackson speaking to anyone about
it since Michael has been on record as saying his father
physically abused him as a child. I just think it didn't
come off right. And the other thing that made my stomach
turn is the leeches using his death for publicity.
Rev. Al Sharpton & Flavor Flav, you two are
soul-less. That's all I gotta say about that.
Here's something I put together real quick. Just some
highlights of an incredible & unmatched career.

MICHAEL JACKSON R.I.P."...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH):
"It's not a good time to be a celebrity. They are
vanishing left and right these days! Here are my thought
on each:
Michael Jackson - I found that after the
Jackson 5 days and "Thriller" there were diminishing
returns on his albums. He was a huge influence on music,
and Hip Hop specifically, but I can't feel too sad about
his passing as during the majority of my life he has
been a perverse weirdo. I feel about Michael Jackson the
same way I feel about Mel Gibson, O.J. Simpson
and Brett Favre. They were great once, but I have
little to no respect for them now. Now we have to suffer
through the onslaught of tribute songs from every artist
out there. Let's just hope that they don't all use the
"A Milli" or "Letter to B.I.G." beats.
Ed McMahon - From an era a little before my
generation, but from what I understand he was a pretty
funny boozy ball buster on TV. I always felt that he was
trying to lure me into one of those pyramid scams though
with his Publisher's Clearing House deals. And making
all of those little girls cry on "Star Search" had to
have bought him a bid in purgatory.
Farrah Fawcett - Again, an icon of a prior
generation, but Farrah taught me one lesson. If you have
a body-part specific cancer, try to keep that to
yourself. I've never heard the term "anal cancer" in my
life before the past three weeks. I think that "anal
cancer" is going to end up on her tombstone. Simple
"cancer" would have been enough for all of us. Even if I
have anal cancer someday, I'm going to tell the press I
have "giant penis disease" or something a little more
flattering.
Billy Mays - Frankly, I think that he tooted too
much Oxiclean. How else could he be that energetic all
the time? I'll bet he had a pile on his desk like
Tony Montana.
Vibe Magazine - Okay, I know that this is not a
person, but they closed their doors after 16 years this
week. As a former subscriber, I always felt that their
weakness was an overly ambitious attempt to cover all
urban music in one book, and their scant, ratingless
record reviews. Plus, they almost earned me an ass
whooping when that nekkid Toni Braxton cover
showed up in my parent's post office box. You'd have
thought I subscribed to "Club" the way my Mom hit the
roof. Good thing she doesn't pick up my mail these
days"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"What's up people? This past week was crazy. Ms.
Fawcett, Mr. McMahon, and Michael Jackson all
passing. DAMN!! I was more in shock to hear of MJs
death, and definitely took a ride down memory lane
watching all the videos. I can vividly remember trying
to stay up to watch Friday Night Videos to watch the
premiere of Thriller. I actually fell asleep and someone
woke me up just as it was coming on. I had that routine
down cold in about a week. Me and my homie Jarvis
would bug out in front of the house with that routine..
haha.. good memories..
On another note, Edgie I would have done the same
thing and tried to save a little cash, but I'm sure that
cop knew what he was talking about, especially in
Southeast DC.. haha.. Just imagine man, you could have
had a lot different story if you made it to the
waterfront on foot. And I have to agree with you on the
B.E.Ps.. that Fallin up track stayed in rotation
when they was first coming out"...
