Last Saturday night's "UFC 100" was one of the best with Brock Lesnar defeating Frank Mir in Round 2, Georges St. Pierre defeated Thiago Alves and Dan Henderson gave Michael Bisbon a 2nd Eound KO beatdown! The late Charles "Mask" Lewis, one of the founders of "Tap Out" was also inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Expo last Friday, July 10th...

COMING NEXT WEEK, our Rap Attack DJ's will get the EXCLUSIVE: RAKIM  (RA Records / SMC Recordings)...

Korean reggae artist, Rising Reggae Phenom, SKULL; who marked a milestone in music history by being the first Korean artist to chart at #2 on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B Singles Chart with his single "Boom Di Boom Di" was snatched from the throws of imminent success almost two years ago when he was drafted by the S. Korean Army. Stationed near the DMZ, and in the throes of the recent increased threat level, SKULL's fans and his management (Morgan Carey, Mariah’s big brother), have become increasingly concerned for his safety. Fans and management recently breathed a sigh of collective relief when it was announced that SKULL would be receiving a furlough to perform at the REGGAERISING FESTIVAL in Humbolt County on August 2nd along with International Reggae sensation GENTLEMAN, Luciano, Capleton , The Original Wailers, Tony Rebel, ASWAD, Queen Ifrica, Sister Carol, Toots and The Maytals, Marcia Griffiths, Freddie McGregor and many others. The buzz is growing rapidly and SKULL fans will be traveling from all over to catch his first performance in almost two years. For more about SKULL, go to:  www.myspace.com/skullriddim...

The BIG buzz since Jay-Z's "D.O.A." dropped is the new Jay-Z/Beyonce' diss track by The Game, "Wavy!" This track is BANANAS...

VIBE magazine has shut down. The magazine was launched in 1993 by music industry legend Quincy Jones and it served as as widely revered urban magazine.  "On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today," said Danyel Smith, former Chief Content Officer of Vibe Media Group and Editor in Chief of Vibe. "We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news," ."It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for Hip-Hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and excellence, and we will miss you"...

WHAT'S BLAZIN' WITH BLAZE WONG? by: BLAZE WONG:

This past week was a very exciting week for us here at the Cornerstone 1200 Squad office! First off, A&M/Octone/Interscope Record's artist K'Naan had a promo performance for B96 (KTTB - Minneapolis - shouts to the entire staff)! If you don't know about K'Naan then you are sleeping on him! But to those that do and have been supporters, we thank you! Not only is he keeping busy with a variety of tours (Rock The Bells, opening up for Jason Mraz, opening up for Nas & Damian Marley and preparing for the Austin City Limits Music Festival) but he is doing big things with Coca-Cola! We are very proud to work an artist as special as K'Naan and wish nothing but success for him! Keep it up K'Naan!!! Check this K'Naan interview on www.theaudacityofdope.com with DJ Hyphen & J Moore on the Sound Session at KUBE (Seattle, Wa) along with a quick recap of an old promo tour I had the great opportunity to go on with him late in 2008 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtQv_BMseIo ).

So let's see what's cooking with Chef Blaze Wong and let me serve you my plate of "Triple Freshness" for this week!

*Wale f. Lady Gaga "CHILLIN" (Interscope)

 *Pac Div "MAYOR" (Universal Motown)

*Colin Munroe f. Jim Jones "Piano Lessons" remix (Universal Motown)

Please lend a helping hand with these priorities of ours and help make it a dish to remember! Hit me up if you need the music or you can look for them on our mp3 site - www.1200squad.com. We appreciate your support!

Stay tuned next week as we have a very exciting project launching off with an artist that is iconic in status within the Hip-Hop community! We are thrilled to be working hands on with this artist from radio, interviews and even tour support! And never forget, "The DJ Is The Cornerstone of Hip-Hop"®

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

DJ Jason-D (RadioBoise.Org): "So I finally joined twitter (djjasond). I have to admit that I avoided it for some time. The thought of listening to what people do throughout the day just didn’t interest me that much already seeing how some people over do it on myspace and facebook (taking kids to school, drinking a pepsi, etc). What finally convinced me was a similar argument that got me to reserve my .com some time ago. That advice was to protect your name or brand even if you don’t have plans to do anything with it because it would be much harder to recover it than to register and not use it. I immediately realized the value of that advice as I began to see the screen names of many popular Hip-Hop artists starting with “The Real…”. Fans and others had in some cases launched twitter accounts using the artist’s name prior to the artist themselves joining. I saw multiple accounts for Eminem. So many that I really wouldn’t know which one to follow if I was interested. The next observation or realization I had was that many artists were using twitter to promote music, video, and events. This is obvious but I was surprised by the volume and pace at which this was happening. Within about 5 minutes I had the new La Coka Nostra “Audacity Of Coke” mixtape and the new Buckshot & KRS One “Robot” video. I reposted the La Coka mix cd as my own tweet and immediately got a reply from DoItAll from Lords Of The Underground that he was feeling it. Whoa. I never got a response to anything I’ve posted on myspace that fast. I observed Evidence, DJ Babu, & Alchemist engaging in almost real time conversation. Ill Bill was thanking everyone who reposted the LCN mixtape. Chino XL was posting updates from the gym. Joelle Ortiz was about to fart on his kid. LOL. I suddenly realized how much people were using this as a real time conversational tool. It really blew me away because many of these guys are really active on their myspace pages as well. I quickly realized that I couldn’t keep up with everyone and they clearly had a lot more time in their day to dedicate to it. A lot of the commercial dj’s that like to hear themselves talk on radio and mixtapes, also like themselves a lot on twitter. Unfollow, unfollow. Time to zero in on who is using it to promote their music early vs. celebrity ego stroking. I also want to find an application that streams people’s updates like the news feed on CNN so I don’t have to keep the web page open. Still more to learn but I encourage you to at least reserve your name if you've been thinking about it.

I started the show off last week featuring new music from Blaq Poet's "Blaq Print" produced almost entirely by DJ Premier. Hooo Haaa!"...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "We got right back into our groove by featuring Alchemist's brand new album, "Chemical Warfare", which features a ton of dope guests (KRS-ONE, Twista, Blu, Talib Kweli, etc...) and Alc's banging production! Check this one out, it is golden!

We then got into an interview with legendary Rock Steady Crew member, DJ JS-1. JS-1 released "Ground Original: No Sell Out 2" a couple weeks ago and it is a certified banger! We got into some discussion about the creative process that went into this album, as well as Serato and DJs in general as well as support in Hip-Hop. Check out JS-1 at www.DJJS1.com !

We were also joined live in studio by the crew of Canada's best counter-culture mag, Abort Magazine. We got into the notion of  alternative media, the nature of their publications, as well as some great interview stories! Check out the magazine online at www.AbortMag.com !

Dudley Perkins (aka Declaime) also joined us for a phone interview on this jam-packed show. Coming out of an Hip-Hop hot spot, this Oxnard California native had a lot to say about the revolutionary times we are living through, spiritual music and why it's time to question authority. Check him out at www.myspace.com/dudleyperkins !

We also had a lot of heat to throw your way because of our week off. We rocked a lot of tracks from the likes of Sean Price, Alchemist, JS-1, Jay Kin, Tona, Royce Da 5'9, Wu-Tang Clan and plenty more. Hit up the podcast at www.UrbanRenewalProject.net in a for all the goodness!...

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "Man crazy week with Michael Jackson's death dominating conversations and the airwaves. Lots of mixes from the US to Croatia, big shout to my dude Phat Phillie and crew for the dope mix. Lots of songs from the Jackson 5 that I didn't remember or forgot about. So it's been great to hear all these classics. And is it me or does Smokey Robinson look the same as he did 20yrs ago? Crazy!!!! Well on to Hip Hop. Check for Home Boy Sandman and Final Outlaw who have some real heat. Check me out this week as I interview P.O.L.O and talk about his bangin new single Y U Hatin. For more information about me DJ Chill Will go to www.myspace.com/djchillwill734...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "So as I'm watching the MJ memorial , I started to feel bad for the dude. Hearing all the recollections from friends and family almost made you forget about the child molestation issue. Almost Is aid. But then, I got heated when I saw Sharpton up there running his mouth. This dude really is a vulchor. You only see him when it's a situation which can benefit his celebrity. But there'll be anouther time to discuss him. The memorial was really hard to watch at the end when Marlon Jackson spoke and MJ's daughter spoke. That was tough to watch. But all in all, it came off cool. I think Usher tried to make his performance about himself rather than about honoring MJ. I have a bunch other observations that I'll let you read on my twitter page ( www.twitter.com/kazzeo )

I survived the 4th of July and still have all my fingers. Yippee.

Shout out to my man Jason D's son Carlo who turned the big 1 this weekend. Happy Birthday!

Here's something I put together real quick last week. Just some highlights of an incredible & unmatched career.

http://www.mediafire.com/?oezxwztzwqn  MICHAEL JACKSON R.I.P...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH):

1. I'm not sure why The Game apologized to 50 Cent, unless he regrets the fact that he is now nearly irrelevant and making a fraction of the money he used to make. But so is 50 Cent. One more thing Game: dissing Jay-Z isn't going to make you relevant again either. It just makes you appear like you are looking for attention.

2. Maybe I'm a sexist A-Hole, but I don't think that it is coincidence that the same month that Vanessa Satten becomes Editor-In-Chief of "XXL" magazine, they have a "Hip Hop Soul" issue. I can't wait for next month's "Hip Hop Handbags" issue. Then again, "Skymall" is a more entertaining read than "XXL" these days.

3. Do you think that Sarah Palin would have quit this week if she were Vice-President? I don't. I think she would have quit months ago. If you can't handle being Governor of a mostly desolate state, then you are not Washington material.

4. The homie Nesto is definitely Washington material though. Thanks for having my back last week. Next time I'm in Southeast I'm just going to show them the pic of you, me and Big Lee L'Heureux after that Beatnuts show and stroll through that MoFo untouched.

5. Man it sucked waiting 5 years for a new Alchemist album. I hope we don't have to wait 5 more next time.

6. It's good to see DJ Premier doing damn near someone's whole album again, but I can't help but wish it were Jeru or Guru instead of Blaq Poet. No offense (I was a huge Screwball fan back in the day), but at nearly 30 I'm really over thug rap.

7. I finally got around to listening to Asher Roth's CD, and man that kid can rap his ass off. Too bad 75% of the songs sound so forced and corny. That's what happens when your first single is one of the 10 videos that they show a day on MTV.

8. The 25% of the songs that I liked on Asher's CD still kicked the crap out of the 5% of the songs I liked on the Method Man & Redman CD. Those guys must have gone to the dollar store for those beats. Thank God Pete Rock did one joint.

9. I couldn't help but feel some goosebumps yesterday when I saw the artwork for "Only Built For Cuban Linx II", even though I know that it can't live up to the epic expectations.

10. I don't think in over 11 years of reporting I've ever had two brother occupy the top two spots on my chart. Kinda cool.

11. I know I'm going to hell for saying this, but I think that during Michael Jackson's funeral at the Staples Center they should have cast an image on the big screen of Michael in his "Thriller" zombie make up.

12. I wonder how the city officials in Los Angeles feel shelling out $2 million for the fanfare surrounding Michael's funeral when I'm sure that they spent at least that trying to prosecute him for child molestation.

13. Seriously, I was already going to hell after last week's column, so why not pile on this week?...
