feels like just yesterday as 40 years ago on July 20,
1969 my sister & I sat glued in front of our black &

on July 20, 1973 my hero & mentor Bruce Lee
passed away (R.I.P.) and 30 years ago in 1979 our
Seattle Supersonics won the NBA title & I
graduated from Roosevelt High School! Shout outs
to all my RuffRyders who reunited over the
weekend back home in Seatown!...

WHAT'S
BLAZIN' WITH BLAZE WONG? by: BLAZE WONG:
Rakim, Rakim, Rakim!!
That's all I have to say DJs! Let's show some love and
respect for someone that i see as iconic in the history
of Hip-Hop! To those that are and will be showing some
love on his latest work (which is the single HOLY ARE
YOU), I thank you and Hip-Hop thanks you! It has been a
trying few days since we've executed the project with
Rakim but i am not one to loose hope! I know you guys
can appreciate a good Hip-Hop record, well, here it is.
A legend, a pioneer, a true MC, it is right here! What
are you, as a DJ going to do about it? Please help on
the support of breaking Rakim's song(s) that are about
to come out! In return, we have access to him for
whatever you may need for your shows. Just hit me up and
we'll talk and see what we can make happen for you!
Also
finally had a chance to meet with Ra this past Friday
where we talked about getting him on the road to radio
stations around the nation, so we hope we will be in a
market near you soon! How did that old saying go?
Strange things happen in 3s? On my subway ride home
Saturday night i was thinking - after working Rakim,
what else is there to do? Over the past 3 years, I have
been blessed to work with Q-Tip, Ice Cube, and
now Ra...I can bow out now...lol. Here are the "Triple
Freshness" for the week, please do look out and help
make this a meal to remember this week!
#1.
Rakim "Holy Are You" (Ra Records / Tuscan Villa / SMC

Def
Jam’s
top-ranking roster of superstar rappers continue to
dominate this summer’s touring circuit - as Method
Man, Redman and Ghostface join forces
for The Foot Print in Hip-Hop Tour, keeping the
Wu-Tang Clan spirit alive and well on a 21-city schedule
that opens July 22nd at the Orange Peel in
Asheville, NC, and wraps up August 16th at
Mezzanine in San Francisco. Opening for the tour is
Brooklyn’s Duo Live performing their Color of Money and
hot single "Shooting". (Please see tour dates below.)
Method Man
and Redman are basking in the glow of
BLACKOUT 2, their critically acclaimed new
Def Jam collaboration released in May – the long-awaited
(ten years!) follow-up to their essential Blackout,
one of the defining hip-hop events of 1999 (with “Tear
It Off,” “Y.O.U.,” and “Da Rockwilder”).
BLACKOUT 2 blasted off with a trifecta of
new single releases showing off Meth and Red at their
very best: “A-Yo” featuring Saukrates, produced
by Pete Rock; “Mrs. International” featuring
Erick Sermon, produced by Buckwild; and “City Lights”
featuring Bun B, produced by Nasty Kutt. The album
debuted on top 10 on Soundscan and has drawn unanimous
raves from print and web media.
Ghostface Killah,
W-TC’s most prolific member, will release his 6th
Def Jam album (and 10th major label career
album) in September, THE WIZARD OF POETRY,
described as “an R&B-influenced rap album.” Ghost’s most
recent release was Ghostdeini The Great
(December 2008), his first official archive collection
on the Def Jam label, blending “classic tracks with
remixes and new verses,” as Billboard.com
described it. Guests included W-TC, fellow Def Jam
artists Kanye West and Ne-Yo, Amy Winehouse, Mary J.
Blige, Ice Cube, and others. The collection also drew
tracks from three of Ghost’s Def Jam albums:
Fishscale (March 2006), More Fish
(December 2006), and The Big Doe Rehab
(December 2007).
Redman
exploded on to the hip-hop scene in 1992 with
Whut? Thee Album, his RIAA gold debut album. It
was followed by
Dare Iz a Darkside.(1994), Muddy Waters
(1996), Doc’s da Name 2000 (1998),
Malpractice (2001) – all RIAA gold-sellers – and
El Nino with Def Squad (1998, with Keith
Murray and Erick Sermon), and Red Gone Wild
(2007).
Always larger than life, Method Man became a
vital part of hip-hop culture in 1992 as a founding
member of the seminal hip-hop
supergroup Wu-Tang Clan with their classic debut,
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Solidifying
himself as a superstar in his own right, Meth went on to
record for Def Jam and release Tical
(1994), Tical 2000: Judgement Day (1998) –
both RIAA platinum – Tical 0: The Prequel
(2004, RIAA gold), and 4:21…The Day After
(2006).

Korean reggae artist, Rising Reggae Phenom, SKULL;
who marked a milestone in music history by being the
first Korean artist to chart at #2 on the
Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B Singles Chart with his
single "Boom Di Boom Di" was snatched from the throws of
imminent success almost two years ago when he was
drafted by the S. Korean Army. Stationed near the DMZ,
and in the throes of the recent increased threat level,
SKULL's fans and his management (Morgan Carey,
Mariah’s big brother), have become
increasingly concerned for his safety. Fans and
management recently breathed a sigh of collective relief
when it was announced that SKULL would be receiving a
furlough to perform at the REGGAERISING FESTIVAL in
Humbolt County on August 2nd along with International
Reggae sensation GENTLEMAN, Luciano, Capleton , The
Original Wailers, Tony Rebel, ASWAD, Queen Ifrica,
Sister Carol, Toots and The Maytals, Marcia Griffiths,
Freddie McGregor and many others. The buzz is
growing rapidly and SKULL fans will be traveling from
all over to catch his first performance in almost two
years. For more about SKULL, go to:

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Jason-D (RadioBoise.org): "So
week two on twitter and this will be my last
update on this subject unless something incredible
happens. I am still sorting thru who I should and
shouldn't follow. Some of the folks I picked early on
were really random and were grabbed from other people's
lists of who they were following. A few memorable
moments from the week... Mily Cyrus asked how to
say "tanning bed" in Spanish. She got dropped faster
than J did R Kelly on that Best Of Both
Worlds Tour. Puffy told everyone to re-tweet (RT)
that Ciroc vodka was the official Vodka of
Twitter. Thwack, unfollow. The highlight though was
Rapper Pooh of Little Brother tweeting his
email and telling DJ's to submit drop requests. Got em 2
days later. That's how you do it"...
Chill
Will
(WCBN-MI): "Had a dope weekend of bangin joints
and rockin the club. Shout to everyone I saw Saturday
night in the standing room only crowd for the
Disregarded show. And damn was it hot in there (Ladies
too)!!!!!! This week the new Rakim single dropped and
Hip Hop is back in the building. Can't wait for the
album. For more information about me DJ Chill Will go to
www.myspace.com/djchillwill734...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "We set it off
tonight by featuring La Coka Nostra's "A Brand
You Can Trust". Everlast, DJ Lethal, Danny Boy,
Slaine and Ill Bill come together with the
help of the likes of B-Real, DJ Muggs, Sick
Jacken and more to drop a pretty nice album that
bangs hard! If you're fiending for some grimeyness over
top of hard beats, this is the album for you!
We were then joined by Ticklah of the Def Jux
indie-rock-R&B-Soul-Funk band, Chin Chin. We
discussed what the group is all about, which as Ticklah
describes, is freaking peoples minds and booties. We
discussed the nature of their live show, El-P,
AutoTune, Talkbox and plenty more! If you're in the
Vancouver area, check them out at the Railway Club on
July 16th! Then, if you feel so inclined, you can check
them out in Cumberland and Tofino after
that! Hit them up at
www.ChinChin.tv
for more info!
We also had some good sports talk, trivia and of course,
a whole lot of music from Blaq Poet, Kool G Rap,
Choclair, Nate Dogg, Snak, Jay Kin, Wale, Common and
plenty more! Check out the podcast by tomorrow
at
www.UrbanRenewalProject.net!...
D-Tragic
(805HipHop.com): "I just started a new show at
UCSB on KJUC 770/880 AM and KCSB 91.9FM
called “Word on the Streets Radio” with myself and
DJ RONNIE CA$H. Now we have another vehicle to
deliver the heaters to more listeners now in our market!
We are working over the summer to get heads knowing
about the new show. As soon as we get our equipment
setup in there, we will be able to do more for your
artists! So be on the lookout for that! By the fall, we
should be up and rollin pretty good. Please add my
Co-Host DJ Ronnie Ca$h to your priorities, His email is
ronekash@gmal.com – GYEAH! We just
picked up some new music from Mike Faceless
“Shoot your mouth off”, a new track by SPIRIT
feat Butch Cassidy “Who Got the Girls” and a new
track by DOWN aka KILO “PUT YA LOCS ON”.
Be on the lookout for both of these tracks touchin down!
Hit me if you didn’t get them, and Ill send them to ya!
Just trying to get some support for these tracks!"...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"After watching various news
shows this past week, I've come to the conclusion that
Joe Jackson is the absolute most deplorable human
being on the planet. I'm not talking about the guy who
sang "Steppin' Out" and "Is She Really Going Out With
Him" in the early 80's. No, I'm talking about Michael
Jackson's "father". This guy is making mad money off
of his son's death and he's showing no remorse
whatsoever. Joe Jackson is a guy who is making 200 grand
doing interviews about his son, he's laughing it up the
memorial service, he's already envisioning turning
Michael kids in to entertainers, and he's shamelessly
promoting his supposed record label instead of grieving
like a normal father would. This monster not only beat
his children into performing, he also cheated on his
wife & had at least one illegitimate kid. I'm just
thoroughly disgusted by this dude.
But anyway, I am also disgusted that LA, and in someway
the state of California, had to pay for Michael
Jackson's memorial. Our state is already in horrendous
financial straits yet we can come up with 1.4 million to
cover the cost of that spectacle? Something damn sure
isn't right here.
What's the deal with all these psycho broads killing
their boyfriends / husbands? Steve McNair,
Arturo Gatti, etc. Who's next?
Finally saw Transformers this past wekend. I
never envisioned saying this in my life but Jessica
Alba is no longer the hottest chick on the planet.
Megan Fox now holds the crown. I wanna roll
around in the mud with her.
Here's something I put together real quick a couple
weeks ago. Just some highlights of an incredible &
unmatched career.
http://www.mediafire.com/?oezxwztzwqn
MICHAEL JACKSON R.I.P.
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH): "God, I just can't get enough
of the Michael Jackson coverage! I hope that it
lasts! This week I heard that Michael was gay (ok,
maybe), that people saw Michael's ghost (not likely) and
that Michael was murdered (nice try, coked out LaToya).
I think the most interesting thing that I heard was that
they still have Michael's brain outside of his body and
are studying it. I guess to see which side of it spawned
the music and which side of it spawned the boy-touching.
Nas and Kelis just can't settle their
differences! Kelis wants more money in their divorce
settlement, and Nas claims that he can't cough it up as
he has whittled down his monthly income to only
$147,165.00 per month. He can't possibly scale back on
the $10,000.00 that he spends each month on "grooming"
and clothing. So much for being a "Columbia Records
Slave". "Life's A Bitch" after all, eh Nasir?
Wow, another 9-11 showdown! Now 50 Cent is going
head-to-head with Jay-Z by dropping his long
decaying "Before I Self Destruct" LP against Jay's
"Blueprint 3". Who will win? Me, when I save $30.00 by
refusing to support these has-beens and their
over-blown, unsatisfying releases.
I hear that Ghostface Killah is doing an album
with all R&B guest artists and R&B beats. Sweet! I hope
that the songs suck as much as "Back Like That", "Never
Be The Same Again" and "Cherchez La Ghost". I wonder if
he'll make a YouTube video berating us all again
after we don't buy his album.
Mos Def is trying to beat the Music Industry
slump by selling his new album "The Ecstatic" in the
form of a T-Shirt. The new shirt has a picture of his
album cover on the front and a tracklisting on the back.
When you order the shirt, you get a special code to go
online and download the album at no additional charge.
While you're on his website, you can also purchase
undies that Mos Def actually wore that are loaded with
"bonus tracks"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"What's up people? Aight, last week I said the Grime
Reaper was on his hustle, and the hustle just keeps
going. Now Arturo Gotti is taken out by what
appears to be a crazy chick that just so happens to be
his wife. WOW. If it gets that bad in a relationship
just walk away, taking a life is not worth it"...
