Rap
group The Beastie Boys have announced member
Adam "MCA" Yauch has cancer, forcing
the the group to cancel a number of tour dates and push
back their upcoming album. In a video posted on their
website
beastieboys.com,
Yauch explained: "I have some pretty heavy news to say.
About two months ago, I started feeling this little lump
in my throat, like what you would feel if you have
swollen glands or something like that...When we were
over in Europe doing promotion, I started to think that
I should talk to my doctor...They did tests, and I
actually have cancer in the parotid gland, and it's also
in the lymph node right in that area." All of us at
RAP ATTACK will keep you on our prayers &
believe that you will make it thru this & be cancer
free...
DJ
B-Mello exits Seattle's KEXP "Street Sounds"
after holdin' that show down for 10 years since
Nasty-Nes turned off his mic. Larry Mizell Jr.
aka Gatsby from They Live will now be
hosting KEXP's Sunday night's "Street Sounds" show.
Meantime DJ B-Mello still holds it down in the mix on
KUBE 93 & will also be a part of the new Death Row
Records. Since its inception, DJ B-Mello has been a
mainstay of the KEXP urban music community. Known best
for supporting independent artists, getting them heard
on the radio and keeping a close ear to the underground
scene, DJ B-Mello is making some changes in his career.
“KEXP
has been an amazing experience for me and it will always
be a huge part of who I am as a DJ and what I stand for
in terms of discovery of new music and the support of
developing talent. Change is good, I’m looking forward
to what’s coming next. But new opportunity has come to
B-Mello who is now scheduled to consult for the new
Death Row Records - aka Wideawake Death Row
Entertainment working Death Row product in North
America including working with radio programmers, clubs,
DJ’s, special remix contests and initiatives. “Given my
long history living in the Northwest before becoming the
CEO of WIDEawake Entertainment Group, I am really
happy to create an opportunity for B-Mello and work
closely with him to help bring new life into Death Row.
I think having someone who really understands the
national and international club scene and how Death Row
can play in is a huge a plus for our company,” says
Lara Lavi (CEO). WIDEawake Death Row
Entertainment was created when WIDEawake
Entertainment Group Inc. purchased all the Death Row
Masters and Publishing from a California bankruptcy
proceeding in January 2009. The Company is committed to
honoring the artists, music and fans that are the ground
breaking phenomena Death Row Records. B-Mello won best
West Coast DJ of the Year in 2006 and has not stopped.
He still maintains his on air presence as well as being
a sought after club and party DJ.

WHAT'S BLAZIN' WITH BLAZE WONG?
by: BLAZE WONG:
Another exciting and challenging week in the life and
times of the 1200 Squad! I have been tweeting a
lot to get my message across, so for those of you that
follow, you know this Rakim project has been my
main priority....I urge you as a DJ out there in radio
world to excercise your freedom of speech and talk this
record up to your PDs / MDs / Mixshow Coordinators....
I look at it like this, if Jay-Z can pay homage
to Ra, so can you! If you don't know what I mean,
listen to the 2nd verse of his new song with Rihanna
& Kanye West "Run This City." I can't
emphasize the importance of getting Rakim on your
airwaves. This man virtually changed how rappers spit in
the game and has been respected all the way to the
present times! So please, show some love for me, for
Rakim, and for Hip-Hop!
I
also had the time this past weekend to venture out of my
work mode and visit some folks and also enjoy the sun,
while it lasts. Big shouts to DJ Neil Armstrong (5th
Platoon & 1200 Squad DJ) holding it down on the
decks at the Adidas soccer challenge / BBQ out in
the Chelsea Piers area of NYC. Neil has come a long way
since i met him, from being a battle DJ, to making one
of the illest mixtapes series, going from city to city
doing club dates, and going all over the globe as
Jay-Z's DJ. Now that is hustling at it's finest! Also
numerous shouts to Chris Atlas (Def Jam),
Yvette Davila (Def Jam), Sam Crespo (Atlantic),
Al Lindstrom (ALMG), Briana Perkins
(Def Jam), Tricia (Def Jam) and everyone that I
might've missed at the BBQ this past Sunday...despite
the crazy thunderstorm, I had a great time unplugging
and just relaxing with everyone! Sam - thanks for the
words of wisdom and faith. Chris - Happy Birthday!! Al -
I bow down to you sir, much respect Finally, let's serve
it up! You guys ready to be served with the "Triple
Freshness" for the week? Let's grill, stir fry and bake
it up with the 1200 Squad priorities and you know what?
Today, I am throwing one in the place of another just
because I like his latest work, look out for that dude
Skyzoo!
1. Rakim "Holy
Are You" (Ra Music / Tuscan Villa / SMC Records)
2. Wale f. Lady Gaga "Chillin" (Interscope Records)
3. Skyzoo "The Beautiful Decay" (Duck Down Records)

Def
Jam’s
top-ranking roster of superstar rappers continue to
dominate this summer’s touring circuit - as Method
Man, Redman and Ghostface join forces
for The Foot Print in Hip-Hop Tour, keeping the
Wu-Tang Clan spirit alive and well on a 21-city schedule
that opens July 22nd at the Orange Peel in
Asheville, NC, and wraps up August 16th at
Mezzanine in San Francisco. Opening for the tour is
Brooklyn’s Duo Live performing their Color of Money and
hot single "Shooting". (Please see tour dates below.)
Method Man
and Redman are basking in the glow of
BLACKOUT 2, their critically acclaimed new
Def Jam collaboration released in May – the long-awaited
(ten years!) follow-up to their essential Blackout,
one of the defining hip-hop events of 1999 (with “Tear
It Off,” “Y.O.U.,” and “Da Rockwilder”).
BLACKOUT 2 blasted off with a trifecta of
new single releases showing off Meth and Red at their
very best: “A-Yo” featuring Saukrates, produced
by Pete Rock; “Mrs. International” featuring
Erick Sermon, produced by Buckwild; and “City Lights”
featuring Bun B, produced by Nasty Kutt. The album
debuted on top 10 on Soundscan and has drawn unanimous
raves from print and web media.
Ghostface Killah,
W-TC’s most prolific member, will release his 6th
Def Jam album (and 10th major label career
album) in September, THE WIZARD OF POETRY,
described as “an R&B-influenced rap album.” Ghost’s most
recent release was Ghostdeini The Great
(December 2008), his first official archive collection
on the Def Jam label, blending “classic tracks with
remixes and new verses,” as Billboard.com
described it. Guests included W-TC, fellow Def Jam
artists Kanye West and Ne-Yo, Amy Winehouse, Mary J.
Blige, Ice Cube, and others. The collection also drew
tracks from three of Ghost’s Def Jam albums:
Fishscale (March 2006), More Fish
(December 2006), and The Big Doe Rehab
(December 2007).
Redman
exploded on to the hip-hop scene in 1992 with
Whut? Thee Album, his RIAA gold debut album. It
was followed by
Dare Iz a Darkside.(1994), Muddy Waters
(1996), Doc’s da Name 2000 (1998),
Malpractice (2001) – all RIAA gold-sellers – and
El Nino with Def Squad (1998, with Keith
Murray and Erick Sermon), and Red Gone Wild
(2007).
Always larger than life, Method Man became a
vital part of hip-hop culture in 1992 as a founding
member of the seminal hip-hop
supergroup Wu-Tang Clan with their classic debut,
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Solidifying
himself as a superstar in his own right, Meth went on to
record for Def Jam and release Tical
(1994), Tical 2000: Judgement Day (1998) –
both RIAA platinum – Tical 0: The Prequel
(2004, RIAA gold), and 4:21…The Day After
(2006).

Chill
Will
(WCBN-MI): "What up fam? Had a great weekend and
was actually inpressed with some acts I had never seen
before. I was at the Asher Roth/Kid Cudi concert
with B.O.B and 88 Keys. All did there
thing but B.O.B I think gave everyone more than there
money's worth. Which is rare in Hip Hop these days. And
he was having fun doing it, while showing that his
skills on the vocals and gutiar. But like I said all did
there thing so check for all there albums they got some
heat. Oh and why did I end up on
www.vladtv.com All I can say is "GUCCI"
Lol. If your in the Toledo Ohio area check out Bash at
the Bay. With some of the dopest DJ's, MC's and
recording artist free at Maumee Bay. over 3,000 strong
last year and estimating 5 to 8,000 this weekend. For
more information about me DJ Chill Will go to

DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver): "We got it going
tonight with a Double Shot from DJ Spinna's new
album, "Sonic Smash" on Highwater Music. This
talented DJ and producer has worked with the biggest
names in Hip-Hop, and does not disappoint with this new
disc. Features include Torae, Homeboy Sandman, P.
Casso and plenty more, so do not sleep on this one.
We were joined live in studio by the 2009 Red Bull
3Style DJ Competition, DJ Mensa. We discussed the
T. Dot scene and Rock The Bells before he got into a
sick mix of his own, giving DJ Sage the rare break!
Check Mensa out at
www.MySpace.com/DJMensa!
Emotionz also slid into the spot to run down some
events and give our listeners a sneak peak at his new
album, "Kush". We bumped a few new tracks, all of which
were heat. Check out the album on iTunes on
August 3rd, 2009! If you're in or around the Vancouver
area on that date, hit The Modern (in Gastown) for
Emotionz "Kush" album release party! Don't miss out! Hit
up Emotionz on MySpace (
www.MySpace.com/Emotionz ) for more
details about "Kush" and Monday Night Live!
Overall, we were treated to a very dope night of great
tracks courtesy of DJ Sage, DJ Mensa and Emotionz. We
really let the music do the talking this time, with cuts
from Q-Tip, Jay Kin, Tona, Jadakiss, J Dilla, DJ Quik
& Kurupt, Drake, Emotionz and plenty more.
Don't sleep on this show! Download the podcast at
www.UrbanRenewalProject.net in a
few short days!"...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA): "Not a whole lot to say this week
except for a couple movie reviews. I finally saw The
Hangover. This is definitely a guy flick. Some of the
stuff they get into reminds me a lot of things I've done
/ seen . But that's another story. Very funny indeed.
Not necessarily as funny as all the hype but still very
funny.
The other movie I just caught was Bruno. The
first half of the movie was a little slow. It had some
funny spots but was more about setting up the story of
the movie. The second half of the movie was non stop
hilarity. One awesome scene after another. A whole lot
of "Oh Shit" moments for sure. Is it as funny as Borat?
No. Is it really funny? Yes. Don't sleep. This is a good
one"...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH): "For years my brothers, Father, and I
have been spending at least a Sunday or two each summer
frequenting a giant local flea market in the hopes of
finding some odd ball treasures. Last summer, we had the
idea to flip the script and try our hand at selling
instead of buying. After making a tidy profit, we
decided to set up shop again this year.
Like any large flea market, the place is bursting with
white trash and I had fun playing a game I invented last
summer called "Spot A Scab". Its a simple census; I
tally how many different white trash traits I can spot
on display during the course of the day. The categories
included:
People with holes or visible dirt on their shirts
People wearing t-shirts with pictures of wolves or
Looney Tunes characters
People drinking beer (I love beer but the flea market
starts at 7am on a Sunday)
People wearing no shoes
People wearing no shirts
People with unkempt facial hair
People with mullets
People with guts hanging out of the bottom of their
shirts
At the end of the day, it was a dead tie between the
mullets and the shirtless.
One thing that the "Scabs" love to do is barter. It
doesn't matter how low the price of something is, people
will ask you to go lower. I had this old pocket knife on
the table for $1.00. This old weirdo creeps over and
says "Will ya take half a buck for the knife?". I'm
thinking to myself, "I should just grab the knife and
put this guy out of his misery". Needless to say I now
have two new quarters and zero old knives. But on a
lighter note I sold my VHS copy of "Above The Rim" for a
dollar so that was pretty sweet. It's okay to be
jealous.
After several listens to Alchemist's
"Chemical Warfare" I feel pretty let down. It's by no
means a terrible album, but I'm certain that in the last
five years he gave away many beats that are hotter than
what's on the disc. I also think that Al is pretty weak
on the mic. It's like listening to Pete Rock rap.
After several listens to Eminem's
"Relapse" I am feeling more pissed. The album is
masterfully produced but the content is still so
grotesque that it turns me off. I can't help but wonder
if Em lets his daughter listen to these songs. This
could have been a classic in his catalog with some more
mature material.
Lastly, I am pumped to hear KRS-ONE &
Buckshot's "Survival Skills" this September,
but this might be the most ridiculous album cover since
Heltah Skeltah's "D.I.R.T." LP:
I think that someone in Duckdown's art department might
need to swell the ranks of the unemployed"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"What's up people? Ok, so the 40th anniversary of the
landing on the moon was last week. My question is why
haven't we been back there, or further out since then?
Obama is losing confidence votes lately. What are
your opinions on his moves?
Musically, the new RAKIM single is being talked
about A LOT. Most people I've asked have had nothing but
postive things to say about it, and they all hope for a
dope album"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly):
"Hello everyone, Sorry I was away for a while. I was
dealing with the death of my grandfather Nathaniel
Abney Sr. I have a legacy to uphold now because we
share that name with me being the III so their are
certain responsibilities that come with it. But I am
back now so you will be hearing from me like you are
used to.
The death of MJ cut at me too. There is no other
artist I respect more than the King of Pop and now he's
gone music will never be the same. Thriller was the
second album I recieved from my dad.( Kool&The Gang
was the first if you are wondering, the album with
Stepping Out& Get Down On It). After hearing MJ I knew
this was something different than anything else I have
ever heard so I wanted all his music and through the
years I have stock piled quite a bit. When I shook hands
with James Brown in Atlantic City when I was like
8 I was like wow this is the person he stole his moves
from. I can't say enough but he will be missed. I hope
everyone appreciated the genius that is Michael Jackson
who we were all fortunate enough to see.
On a more lighter note Rakim is back!!!!!!
Yeaaahhhh!!!!!"...
