93.5 Drops the Beat and focuses on 93.5 KDAY FM

The landscape of Los Angeles radio has been ever changing over the last several years and the programming at 93.5 is taking an exciting turn for the better. “The Beat” will be dropped as focus is placed on the brand equity in KDAY and its deep musical roots.

"Los Angeles has been missing the west coast sound. By eliminating syndicated programming, KDAY can now focus on its strengths as a local, independent station that connects with the diverse culture that is Los Angeles. With a mix of the old school and the new music that is enjoyed today, I feel we have a unique and winning recipe." - Adrian (A.D.) Scott (Program Director/ Operations Manager)

93.5 KDAY was unveiled at the Nokia Theatre on Saturday August 15, with some of Hip-Hop's most iconic figures including: Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Naughty by Nature, Slick Rick, Dj Quik and Whodini. The sold out show attracted a diverse LA crowd of many races, and ages both young and old.

For More information on KDAY listen online & log on to:  www.935KDAY.com...

While L.A. gains a new station, L.A. loses a GREAT show on KXLU (see photo above). After nearly 21 years, Mike Nardone & his longest running Hip-Hop show "We Came From Beyond" ends on Sunday night, August 30th. Make sure you tune in on Sunday night from 11pm - 2am (pst) or 2a-5am (est) to www.KXLU.com. For more info log onto: www.WeCameFromBeyond.com. Congrats Mike & we'll miss ya homie...

The first music video from the new Blue Scholars' EP OOF! debuts on MTVU and MTVU.com
( http://www.mtvu.com/music/video-premiere/blue-scholars_hi-808/ )

The video, created for the track Hi-808, received the on air premier video for the day starting at 6AM and will run in heavy rotation throughout the day on MTVU's broadcast TV channel and will also be featured on the front page of MTVU.com
Blue Scholars partnered with painter, vinyl toy & skate deck artist,  Angry Woebots (www.armyofsnipers.com) who crafted a painting to go along
with the lsong “HI-808” which will be turned into a limited edition print and t-shirt. The painting was created at the influential Hawaii based surf & skate boutique brand IN4MATION (www.in4mants.com). The cover for OOF! was designed by one of Hawaii's premier photographers and historian of all things dope, Aaron Yoshino (Honozooloo / 5 to Life - www.honozooloo.com) whose photos have documented Hawaii’s subculture for several years. The video for Hi-808 was handled by The Island's premiere video production crew, Kai Media, who shot in and around Oahu (edited by Zia Mohajerjasbi). All these groups have come together to create the OOF! project.

The song "HI-808" documents the differences between the Hawaii Blue Scholars MC Geologic grew up in and the one he would later return to,
laid over an 808-drum-dominated masterpiece from Blue Scholars DJ/ Producer Sabzi...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): "Well everybody knows the big news in my city by now. I will just start by saying if God forgives me of my sins everyday then who am I to judge Michael Vick and not forgive. There are people in my city wanting to boycott sponsors of the Eagles, one of those happens to be Jefferson Hospital( that makes alot of sense). In Philadelphia we had a guy by the name of Gary Heidnik who ATE MENTALLY CHALLENGED WOMEN in West Philly back in the 80's and the outcry was no where near as severe as the what the Eagles are getting for signing Vick. I find some people in my city lack brain cells. Neither act I am speaking on is right. But we need to learn how to forgive because you never know when you will need forgiveness for something.

On the music front my man JJ Brown's album is coming folks. I believe there is a video being shot as we speak but I'll have get confirmation from his publicist(LOL!!!!). I will be heading to Florida for a week so I will talk to everyone later"...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "We hit off our last show with an extensive Mos Def mix in light of DJ Sage opening up for the Black Jack Johnson on August 27th at the Vogue Theater in Vancouver! We discussed the extensive and eclectic nature of Mos Def's catalog and how it was difficult to mix a lot of his tracks, but Sage held his own for sure and came away with a nice set.

We also ran down the highlights of Sage's trip to the Bay Area, where he caught up with the Brooklyn duo, aptly named Duo Live, backstage at the Ghostface/Method Man/Redman show. They discussed a variety of things ranging from beef in Hip-Hop to their new projects and aspirations. Check them out at www.MySpace.com/DuoLive for all the latest on this talented duo and go cop “The Color Of Money” now.

Check out the podcast of tonight's show at www.UrbanRenewalProject.net! We got music from the likes of KRS-One & Buckshot, Snak The Ripper & RA The Rugged Man, Masta Ace & Edo G, Jendor and of course, the mighty Mos Def. Hit up the podcast link on the website in a couple of days to download the show, as well as last week's heater that wasn't posted due to time constraints!"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "Checked out District 9 last weekend. That movie was really well done. Great writing, well paced, and great editing. Don't sleep on this movie. The way it ends, there has to be a sequel.

My Raiders started the pre-season perfectly by kicking the Cowboys ass 31-10. And, in true Raider fashion, our coach celebrated by breaking the jaw of a defensive assistant. LOL. Actually the fight took place a couple weeks ago but the news has just been leaked. Some look at it as a bad thing but I look at that as that old school, 70's take no shit fire has been returned to the locker room. Good, because it's about time we got ring number 4.

Shout to my fellow Hip Hop purist DJ 3rd Rail from Chicago. 3rd, in addition to holding down multiple radio shows out in the windy city, is also a long time member of the Guardian Angels and was just featured on the Biography Channel's Guardian Angels special. Look for it when it repeats"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I'm glad that football is back, but watching pre-season action is kind of like watching a cover band. Kudos to my G-Men though who won their game last night on a weird defensive touchdown on the final play. It's good to know that our fourth string defense is better than the Panthers fourth string offense. That's going to mean something come January.

I do feel bad for Green Bay fans. Brett Favre makes Pinocchio look like Honest Abe. I feel for Green Bay fans because I remember when my favorite Red Sox player Wade Boggs went to the Yankees. It was the same betrayal that I felt when Hulk Hogan went over to NWO and when Snoop Dogg went to No Limit! Okay, I didn't give a rat's ass about Snoop Dogg. Everyone knows that my favorite No Limit artist was Mia X. They don't get any hotter than Mia X. But its too bad that the Eagles and Vikings are both in the same conference because I would love to see a Favre Vs. Vick Super Bowl. It would be the most controversial showdown since "Dan Vs. Dave".

Big Boi of Outkast announced this week that he has reunited with Andre 3000 to record a new album entitled "Sir Lucious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty". It will be released overseas under its original title, "We're Gay". The first single is produced by Erick Sermon, which makes it nearly certain that hearing it will make a normal person want to smash their head into a glass window like a handcuffed drunk in the back of a cruiser on an episode of "COPS". Or bail out of a second story window like Erick Sermon did years ago when he realized that he made the same beat 719 times"...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "What's up people? So Vick is back in the league. I'm looking foward to seeing how he does, but I'm not expecting a lot from the guy. He's been out of the league for 2 years, and let's be honest he's older. 2 years in sports can make a big difference.

I guess the heat has decided to head east towards the end of the summer. Nothing new, but after having a relatively cool summer compared to previous years, it fills like mother nature is pimp slapping my big ass when I go outside in the heat. Shit, big dudes get hot quick..haha.. Speaking of heat, it sucks when it's hot out and there's no beach or lakes around to be able to jump in and cool off. I seriously hope this time next year I'm in a different place. SUCKS here!

Jess and JJ, I know you enjoying that break down in OBX. Awesome place to vacation. I just got back from vacation myself and it was much needed. I wish I was still on vacation honestly, because this week has felt like the movie "Ground Hog Day" so far"...

DJ Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "What's good people? Been on the normal grind and reppin to the fullest. Shout to all the people hit me up at the show. Can't say all the names cause I know I'll forget somebody. I don't know about you but I'm feeling Slaughterhouse. And Royce's join One is catchy and some fire. Hope the Wu thing gets deaded and they continue to rock stages together. Also looking forward to the new Rakim single about to drop soon and it should be ridiculous. Hearing a lot of good things about the album and it's been a long time coming. So for more information about me DJ Chill Will go to www.myspace.com/djchillwill734...

DJ FUSION: "Just wanted to hit folks up to let you know that Sonny Bonoho's song is on the latest official mixtape folks around the way mixed & hosted by yours truly, DJ Fusion of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast and BlackRadioIsBack.com, called Coast 2 Coast DJs Present: Return of Real Black Radio, Hip-Hop & R&B Vol. 2.
