A
MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
I
just finished laying out my plan for health reform at a
joint session of Congress. Now, I'm writing directly to
you because what happens next is critical -- and I need
your help.
Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It
can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows
where I stand. Now they need to hear from you.
Add your voice: Ask your representatives to support my
plan for real health reform in 2009:
http://my.barackobama.com/SupportReform
The heart of my plan is simple: bring stability and
security to Americans who already have health insurance,
guarantee affordable coverage for those who don't, and
rein in the cost of health care.
Tonight, I offered a specific plan for how to make it
happen. I incorporated the best ideas from Democrats and
Republicans to create a plan that's bold, practical, and
represents the broad consensus of the American people.
We've come closer to real health reform in the last few
months than we have in the last 60 years. But those who
profit from the status quo -- and those who put partisan
advantage above all else -- will fight us every inch of
the way.
We do not seek that fight, but we will not shrink from
it. The stakes are too high to let scare tactics cloud
the debate, or to allow partisan bickering to block the
path. Your voice, right now, is essential.
See my full plan and call on your representatives to
support it:
http://my.barackobama.com/SupportReform
Ours is not the first generation to understand the dire
need for health reform. And I am not the first President
to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the
last.
Thank you,
President Barack Obama
Atlanta rap legends Goodie Mob reunited over the
weekend for a one time special performance in their
hometown billed "Remember Atlanta." Cee-Lo, T-Mud,
Big Gipp and Khujo, draped in blood-red
clothing, ran through their catalog of hits over the
years, including smash hits "Cell Therapy," "Soul Food,"
Beautiful Skin" and much more." RAP ATTACK's
own, DJ Jay Force from ATL's WRFG was
there & here's what went down:
"I
was hanging out in the Castellberry Hill area of Atlanta
speaking with my friend, promoter Jabari Graham,
about how Atlanta has changed so much. Jabari is one of
the most successful promoters in Atlanta because he
tends to have a good sense of timing in booking the
right acts at the right time. Before Drake really
blew up we had spoke at length about how Drake is gonna
be that next guy the public would be checking for.
Jabari & his partners took at advantage of the
opportunity to book Drake right before he blew up & the
sold out show actually happened right as Drake was
peaking in popularity. This particular night we were
talking about how Goodie Mob was getting back
together & how significant it was to Atlanta's Hip Hop &
overall usical history for them to be doing so. Would
Atlanta fans still be checking for Goodie Mob after an
almost decade long hiatus? We knew the answer to that.
That night we discussed various media strategies
to make sure that September 19th 2009 would be a
historical one & it truly was historical for Atlanta,
southern rap fans, & fans of quality Hip-Hop music
overall.
I arrived at Masquerade Music Park a little late due to
the massive amounts of people that showed up for Goodie
Mob's Reunion Show in Atlanta. It felt like Goodie Mob &
the Dungeon Family organization had the whole
city buzzing despite having not released an album
collectively since 1999's "World Party". It had been
raining in Atlanta in recent days & I'm sure many people
didn't know what the turnout would be like especially
since black people & rain don't exactly work together
for outdoor concerts. **Rimshot** Despite the periods of
rain over 4,500 fans descended on the outdoor concert
venue for the return of one of the most important
Hip-Hop groups in southern based Hip-Hop. I can only
imagine how many people would have showed up to the
venue had the weather NOT been less than perfect, but it
was an amazing sight to see nonetheless.
Goodie Mob took the stage to the theme from the movie
Rocky dressed in solid crimson colors to a raucous &
at times lengthy period of applause. Utilizing a live
band that included my future fiancee DJ Princess Cut
on the turntables, they proceeded to rock for about
an hour long peformance on stage. The first song they
rocked was "Goodie Bag" from their classic album "Soul
Food" before launching into the rest of their catalog of
hits & even tweaking a few of those for the
live performance. At one point in the show Cee-Lo
sung at medley from Spandau Ballet's hit "True" &
then spinning into lyrics from one of the Goodie Mob's
classics over the instrumentation from that song. At one
point during the show Cee-Lo jumped into singing his hit
single "Crazy" as one 1/2 of Gnarls Barkley to
taking back to the old school R&B covering Frankie
Beverly & Maze's "Before I Let Go". The rest of the
night saw special guests of the Dungeon Family take the
stage with them like Backbone & Sleepy Brown.
At one point Big Boi from Outkast came out
on stage & the crowd was anticipating Andre 3000
to make an appearance although he was a no show & the
rumor has it that he was actually supposed to make an
appearance. Despite Andre 3000 being of the primary
members of the Dungeon Family missing from September
19th's reunion concert for the Goodie Mob, the crowd
made it known who they were really there for. It was a
great night in Atlanta's musical history & I'm proud to
say I was a part of it"...

DJ
Eclipse "The Halftime Show" Roc Raida Tribute
"Last
Sunday night I threw together a short Roc Raida
tribute set at the beginning of my Sirius show.
On Monday night Premier and I held our monthly
"Like They Used To Say" party at APT which we dedicated
to Roc Raida and were able to raise over $4,000 for his
family. On Wednesday night I wanted to do a proper
tribute show so I contemplated on what to do. As I
compiled every song I could that Raida was featured on
(production or scratches) I thought it would be better
to reach out to his friends and get their take on what
the man meant to them. What started out as a dozen or so
people that I intended to talk to snowballed into phone
call after phone call of friends wanting to share
stories. Please forgive me if I left out someone's name
(or mispelled), but following is a list of who called or
showed up at station (no particular order): Boogie
Blind, Daddy Dog, Roli Rho, Kuttin Kandi, Riz, JS-1,
Jab, Sugar Cuts, Neil Armstrong, Fat Fingaz, Q-Bert,
Mixmaster Mike, A-Trak, J-Rocc, Babu, Rhettmatic,
Scratch, Revolution, Rahzel, Bobbito, A.G., Lord
Finesse, Dr. Butcher, Vin Roc, DJ Grouch, Freestyle,
Spictakular, Shortkut, Supreme and Tame One.
We ended up going an hour longer then we should have. In
between calls I found some old cassette tapes of radio
show appearances by the X-Men. I hope you enjoy
listening to the show as much as I did. Thanks to the
whole Halftime crew for making this run smooth;
Skizz, Petey Cologne and Marz One. To
everyone that showed up or called in....I love you all.
R.I.P. Grand Master Roc Raida. We're going to
miss you, Eclipse

DJ
CASH MONEY SPEAKS OUT!
by:
DJ Cash Money
"Let
me start by saying that this isn't just about me, this
is about pioneering and legendary DJs from Philadelphia
who are not being recognized.
Just as everyone knows that Hip Hop's founding fathers
are Kool DJ Herc, Afrika Bambaataa and
Grandmaster Flash from the Bronx - it is common
knowledge that DJ Jazzy Jeff and myself are the
most famous Hip Hop DJ legends from Philadelphia.
When the first Philly DJ Day took place in 2008,
I was invited to attend and help celebrate its launch.
DJs from every decade in Philadelphia Hip Hop history
attended and many group photos were taken of us to
commemorate this day of unity.
Around the beginning of 2009, the organizers of Philly
DJ Day received a proclamation, signed by the Mayor of
Philadelphia, confirming an official Philly DJ Day to be
celebrated annually. They proudly announced it. I was
excited to read it myself!
To my surprise, my name was left off the proclamation
though some of my friends were included...and was I
naturally upset! DJs included on the first document
included DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM (Rest in Peace), DJ
Drama, Schoolly D, ?uest Love, King Britt
and Rich Medina.
When I called Philly DJ Day to let them know about this
error, they had not noticed that my name had been left
out. They claimed that it was a typo or some mistake and
that they would work on it. I wondered how something so
important and final could be released and signed without
review or edits.
By September 2009, the organizers said they finally
fixed the problem, but when I viewed the updated
document, it felt like my name was just thrown in for
"honorable mention" and they changed the honorees
around. At this point, I felt the second version aimed
at pacifying me was more insulting than the first!
Please view both versions of the Philly DJ Proclamation
at
www.myspace.com/djcashmoney12
I wondered why other DJ legends weren't included on
either document like the original DJ Spinbad,
Lady B, Grandmaster Nell, DJ Miz, Too Tuff, Cosmic Kev,
DJ Ran, Grand Wizzard Rasheen, Tat Money, Lightning
Rich, Josh Wink and the list goes on!
There are so many DJs who trail blazed! Maybe it would
have been better to just call it Philly DJ Day, not name
anyone and have it be all inclusive. However, if the
more accomplished DJs were to be highlighted, it would
have been better that we all sat down had a chance to
offer our input.
If the proper history of the Philly DJ is not going to
be told, it's better not to do it at all. I give Philly
DJ Day an A+ for effort but an F for history.
Yet Philly DJ Day continues to include my likeness on
their website knowing that I am not happy with the
organization and therefore I do not support it. When the
Philly DJ Day organizers sent DMC (the longest running,
most legendary DJ competition) a sponsorship proposal
for 2009, which included my photo, they were turned down
because Philly DJ Day wasn't even recognizing the only
DMC Champion from Philly! DMC supports me 100%!
Thus, some may want to say that I am being egotistical
or hard to deal with for standing up for what is right
but I won't be written out of history. I have been
silent far too long about the cliquishness that goes
down in this city. I tour all over the world repping
Philly to the fullest. The fact that I won the DJ World
DJ Championship in 1988 and am the only DJ to bring this
title to Philly speaks volumes. I was also inducted into
the Technics/DMC Hall of Fame.
A great DJ is not made overnight! You have to put in
time, blood, sweat and tears. You become known as a
legend from your fans and fellow DJ's. I didn't give
myself these titles, other people did. Rightfully so,
I've earned my place in history. It's like discussing
Philadelphia basketball and never mentioning Dr. J.
I would suggest that the organizers start over, regroup,
sit down with the true legends and get it right."
Sincerely,
DJ Cash Money

(WCBN-MI):
"What's up people? Another sad week in Hip Hop with the
death of Grand Master DJ Roc Raida. Not really
sure of the details but a great lost in Hip Hop. He was
one of the dopest dj's and a good person on top of that.
He will truly be missed and if your not up on him check
the Scratch DVD or Youtube and check the skills.
For those in the Detroit area you can check me out this
Saturday at the Greektown Casino's Eclipz Lounge. For
more information about me DJ Chill Will go to

DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "RIP Anthony
Williams aka Roc Raida -- 1972-2009
We skipped the Double Shot this week in order to
throw down a little tribute mix to the Grandmaster
Roc Raida. The legendary producer, DJ and
turntablist will be missed, but he will leave behind a
legacy of sound that will be appreciated by many
generations to come.
We were then joined by Seattle MC, D-Black.
Although he just dropped a record, D-Black will be
retiring from Hip-Hop in order to join the ministry
shortly. We got the low-down on what to expect from the
album, as well as what he hopes to achieve with his new
venture. Check him out at
www.MySpace.com/Dblackmuzik.
We also had Jay Kin come through the studio and
premier an absolutely hot track. We discussed his future
plans, which include another trip to Japan to lay down
some new material. Check him out at
www.MySpace.com/JayKin and make sure you
get a copy of "On The Humble", out now!
We had a host of great music on our No-BS show in the
name of the late Roc Raida. King Reign, Saukrates,
Masta Killa, Ghostface, Kurupt & Freeway, A&E
and many more. We also analyzed a legendary top-9 list
of rappers who need to change their monikers which is
all kinds of out there! Hit up the podcast at

D-TRAGIC
(805HipHop.com):
"CHECK IT !! I have to ltell you that things have been
mad crazy over here in my Market! I've been locked in
the studio for the last few days working on this new
proposal for a new show on KCSB 91.9FM Santa
Barbara. I gotta tell you that it has drained the life
out of me. I just release a new Mixtape for V-Tech
working with ROC-C.
V-TECH.COM
is a manufacturer of phone,s and other electronic
devices. Thet feature new artists on thier website and
work wihth licensing to get music added to comercials,
and promotions. I was lucky enough to be chosen to work
on this project with Roc. It gave mea chance to see some
of the newest music roc has been working on. It features
the likes of: OHNO, Chino XL, Mic Geronimo,
Jerneye, Anonymous Twist, Marlon D and many more.
The thing that really tripped me out was when DJ
ROMES of the Loot Pack hit me up and gave me
props on the Mix. If you arent knowing about DJ Romes,
he is a respected DJ in the Undergorund Hip-Hop World
reppin Stones Throw Records. So that made me feel
real good about it. It was also real dope to catch a few
pointers out too about Mastering. Be sure to go to
VTECH.COM real soon to checkout the Mix!!
I'm
also working on a few DOPE new shows that will be hittin
Santa Barbara and Ventura in October. The name of
October in the 805 has been officially changed to
HipHoptober Fest by CHI-KING of O.D.B.'s
groups BROOKLYN ZOO. Chi-King is working with
805HipHop.Com
on the following shows. If you are in the 805
Area and are interested in peeping out a show or 2,
please feel free to hit me up for more info! Also Please
support that new heat by CHINO XL and LOOK FOR THAT NEW
ALBUM "THE RICANSTRUCTION"...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"First & foremost, I wanna
send out condolences to the family and friends of
Grandmaster Roc Raida. Roc was a legend on the
turntables. I had a chance to meet him on a couple of
occasions and he was a really down to earth type of guy.
No attitude whatsoever. Another huge loss for Hip Hop
So my Raiders are now 1 & 1 this season. We
should have been 2 and 0 but the ref's screwed us during
the Monday night game. Anyway, the big problem that
needs to be corrected. is Jamarcus Russell's
inability to start fast. He looks like shit in the first
quarter and doesn't get going solid until midway through
the 3rd quarter. That's not gonna work buddy. Nor is his
reluctance to run when needed. Dude is 6'6, 250 pounds.
He is easily as big if not bigger than most defensive
players but he won't use that advantage to run over
them. It makes no sense. Anyway, I'll be at the game
this weekend when we play Denver at home. I wish
Chris Hodkins was still in radio so I could have
someone to talk shit to. LOL.
Plaxico Burress should have got a longer
sentence. And bringing his kid with him to court was
just a media play for sympathy. Enough of these people
who can't think before they act"...
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-PA):
"It is fall finally so the playoff races are heating up.
The Phils are 5 games away and the Eagles
stunk it up but its only week 2. Penn State keeps
rolling so my weekend was great for the most part. Check
out JJ Brown on youtube as he preps his
solo debut CONNECT THE DOTS due to drop November 10th.
The videos are pretty interesting with a list of apecial
guests. If you look closely at some points you may see a
familiar face"...
Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"What's up people? 2009 has been one hell of a year with
the passing of a lot of entertainment figures.
Unfortunately, we lost another one close to the family.
DJ Roc Raida passed, and I have to say I'm still
a little in shock about it. I think the shock is because
so many have passed on this year. Condolences to Raida's
family. On a different note, it looks like Mayweather
has picked up right where he left off. Are we going
to see a Mayweahter and Pacqiuao fight, or will
Mayweather give Mosley a shoot. If I had to
guess, I'd say Mayweather is going to wait for Pac-Man
so he can get a BIG PAYDAY, and then bounce out of the
boxing world again. I'd like to see Mayweather fight
Mosley, but I don't see it happening. By the way, I
guess drinking your own piss doesn't really help!"..
DJ 3D
(New York):"Since we have an intern, I've just started
posting my playlist with links to the music on my blog:

Kevin
